ELECTRICAL SYSTEM:IGNITION:ANTI-THEFT:CONTROL MODULE

Volkswagen Group of America, Inc. (Volkswagen) is recalling certain 2015-2019 GTI, 2015-2016 and 2018-2019 Golf, 2012-2019 Beetle and Beetle Convertible, 2017-2019 Golf SportWagen and 2011-2018 Jetta vehicles equipped with an automatic transmission, manual handbrake and keyless entry. A build-up of silicate on the shift lever micro switch contacts may enable the key to be removed from the ignition when the transmission shift lever is not in "Park."

Fix: Volkswagen will notify owners, and dealers will install an additional switch and circuit board, free of charge. The recall began November 19, 2019. Owners may contact Volkswagen customer service at 1-800-893-5298. Volkswagen's number for this recall is 37M2.

Your car is shutting off unexpectedly while idling and driving at low speeds, which has created dangerous situations where other vehicles nearly hit you in traffic. Multiple mechanics at both Volkswagen dealerships and independent shops have run diagnostics but cannot find any error codes or obvious causes, despite your car having only minor wear. This stalling issue has been reported by other Jetta owners online with no clear solution identified. The fix will likely require advanced diagnostics to identify whether it's a fuel system, ignition, or engine control issue.

Since I have possessed the car, the horn has been slowly going out. Until now it no longer works at all. I've checked fuses and not the problem. So this is a safety concern for me because of the alarm! If my alarm goes off, just the lights flash but NO sound??! The alarm should at least be heard, right? Otherwise I hope I can see the lights flashing if my alarm goes off!!! Because I can't hear anything. My horn does not work even if I push the steering wheel? If I have to use my horn to alert anyone then I can't!

The key will either get stuck in the ignition while the car is on, or it will occasionally not turn at all. Both of which have left me or others borrowing my car stranded. Has taken up to 2 hours of jiggling the key and finally turning to the on or off position. Some shops are saying the ignition cylinder, others the switch, and others the steering lock but this seems to be a very common complaint online from Volkswagens in this age range. It could seriously harm someone if they were unable to start their car in an emergency situation due to the key not turning.

The door locks will try to auto-lock once the vehicle has passed a set speed but fail, making an audible double-lock sound. The car will continue to try and auto-lock after each stop (stop sign, stop light, etc) and continue to fail. Happens intermittently.

The contact stated that the vehicle would intermittently fail to restart soon after failure. Due to the failure, the vehicle had been towed and driven to various independent mechanics and dealers and none had been unable to determine the cause of the failure. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The vehicle was not yet repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 100,000.

The contact owns a 2013 Volkswagen Jetta Hybrid. The contact stated that while driving, the vehicle would vibrate and jerk. The contact also mentioned that the braking system failed to function as designed. The check engine warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to a local mechanic where it was diagnosed that the mechatronic unit and the dual clutch needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 70,000.

The clock spring in the steering wheel has failed, causing the air bag and horn (along with the steering wheel-controlled electrical systems) to stop working. This has been confirmed by a local Volkswagen dealership service department. The part is under extended warranty due to a prior recall, but in reality this recall apparently isn’t worth much, as the part has been backordered for several months and won’t be obtainable for up to another 6 months, or more; no actual date has been committed to. The Volkswagen service department also stated they cannot/will not temporarily fix or ameliorate the current failure of basic safety features.

The mechanics at Volkswagen found a hairline crack in my mechatronics unit for my Volkswagen Jetta hybrid 2013. They would not fix it even though it was the software that caused it. “Summary: Volkswagen Group of America, Inc. (Volkswagen) is recalling certain 2013-2015 Jetta Hybrid vehicles equipped with a DQ200 7-Speed DSG Automatic Transmission. Hairline cracks can develop within the transmission electronic gearbox (mechatronic unit), causing an internal transmission oil leak and a decrease in oil pressure. Consequence: A decrease in transmission oil pressure can cause the clutch to fail to engage, resulting in a sudden loss of drive power, increasing the risk of a crash. Remedy: Volkswagen will notify owners, and dealers will update the transmission software, free of charge. The software remedy is currently under development. The recall is expected to begin February 4, 2020. Owners may contact Volkswagen customer service at 1-800-893-5298. Volkswagen's number for this recall is 34J6. The problem is my unit already had the hairline crack before they updated the software. They were saying it was my fault and I have to pay out of pocket.

The ABS lights go on and the speedometer stopped working and all the lights have activated. the abs module has been reported that there is a defect in most of the jettas and so i believe that this should be a recall issue.

1. Fuel pump control module shorted out and electrical fuse was blown. 2. Yes, the part is available for inspection. 3. Vehicle completely shut off while driving on the road without any prior dashboard indicators or symptoms of something going wrong. 4. Part #1K0-906-093-J manufactured by Kuhnke a tier 1 supplier for VW. Fuel pump control module is mounted on top of gas tank area and was melted and shorted out, and a thorough inspection, and replacement was done by the VW dealer: Diehl Toyota/VW, Butler, PA. 5. This same issue was a recalled on 281,000 VW models as per NHTSA bulletin #20AE. VW recall #17V509000. 6. VW said my VIN is not included in the recall. But, it the exact same failure, part, and manufacturer of the part for VW/Audi. So WHY? is my VIN not included. It doesn't seem to be batch related, but a design defect. 7. Vehicle would not restart and could not be driven. It was flat-bedded to the dealer.

THERE WAS A RECALL ISSUES IN DEC 2019 FOR REPLACEMENT OF A HOSE AND/OR MECHATRONIC UNIT. THERE IS NO REMEDY. MY CAR'S ELECTRIC MOTOR STOPPED WORKING. WHEN CLEARING THE ERROR CODES, MY CAR DOES NOT WORK AT ALL. WHEN CALLING VW, ADVISED THAT I CAN PUT IN A NEW TRANSMISSION AND IT WILL WORK. WHEN I ASKED WHY THAT ISN'T THE FIX TO THEIR RECALL, THEY SAID THEY DON'T KNOW YET. THEY ADVISED THAT IF I PUT IN MY OWN TRANSMISSION AND THEY DETERMINE A DIFFERENT PART IS NEEDED ANYWHERE IN THE PROCESS, THEY WILL NOT BE ABLE TO COMPENSATE ME FOR THE RECALL. THE CAR HAS BEEN SITTING AT DIFFERENT SHOPS TRYING TO FIGURE OUT A FIX SINCE JULY AND HAS BEEN UNDRIVEABLE SINCE AUG 17.

THE ENGINE IS IN PARK WHEN THE INCIDENTS OCCUR. DURING A GOOGLE SEARCH, THERE ARE NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS OF THIS OCCURING. THERE IS A CURRENT RECALL OF THE MICROSWITCH CAUSING IGNITION ISSUES, YET IGNITION CYLINDER IS NOT INCLUDED.

THE TEMPERATURE GAUGE LIGHT ILLUMINATED WITH AN AUDIBLE TONE. THE CONTACT COASTED TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND LIFTED THE HOOD. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE COOLANT WAS BUBBLING AND BOILING IN THE COOLANT RESERVOIR. THE CONTACT LET THE VEHICLE SIT UNTIL IT COOLED DOWN AND ADDED COOLANT INTO THE RESERVOIR AND DROVE THE VEHICLE TO HER SON'S RESIDENCE. THE CONTACT CALLED THE DEALER AND INFORMED THEM OF THE FAILURE AND WAS INFORMED TO SCHEDULED AN APPOINTMENT. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO A DEALER. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 83,194.

THE CONTACT PLACED THE VEHICLE IN PARK FOR 30 SECONDS AND ATTEMPTED TO RESTART THE VEHICLE HOWEVER, THE VEHICLE FAILED TO RESTART. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER (MISSION BAY VOLKSWAGEN ' (ADDRESS 2205 MORENA BLVD, SAN DIEGO, CA 92110) TO BE DIAGNOSED. THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THERE WAS A CRACK IN THE TRANSMISSION WHICH CAUSED OIL TO LEAK INTO THE ELECTRICAL GEAR BOX. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 47,000.

THE PROBLEM STARTED AT AROUND 60,000 MILES WERE THE CAR WOULD NOT START UNLESS YOU JIGGLED THE KEY AROUND A LOT AND PROGRESSIVELY GOT WORSE WE'RE WHEN THE CAR WAS RUNNING THE KEY WOULD BE STUCK AND YOU WOULD HAVE TO CONTINUOUSLY JIGGLE THE KEY AROUND TO GET THE CAR TO TURN OFF. THEN AS IT GOT WORSE, WHEN YOU COULD GET THE CAR TO CUT OFF THE KEY WOULD NOT COME OUT OF THE IGNITION. I AM AT THE POINT NOW THAT THE KEY WILL NOT TURN AT ALL TO CUT THE CAR ON. LUCKILY THE KEY IS NOT STUCK IN THE IGNITION. I AM HAVING TO REPLACE THE IGNITION WHICH WILL COST IN BEST CASE SCENARIO AROUND 675. IN THE EVENT THE KEYS HAVE TO BE REPROGRAMMED IT WILL COST A TOTAL OF 850. THESE ARE ESTIMATES FROM WHAT THE DEALERSHIP HAS QUOTED IN PARTS AND LABOR, THE IGNITION IS CURRENTLY BEING REPLACED AND I HAVE NOT RECEIVED A TOTAL. SEEMS LIKE THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM AND SHOULD BE FIXED BY VOLKSWAGEN. REPLACING LOCK CYLINDER AND IGNITION SWITCH.

I ASKED IF THEY CAN LOOK AT WHAT WAS REPLACED AND THEY SAID IT WOULD CHARGE ME AN EXPENSIVE AMOUNT TO PAY PER HOUR WHICH IS CRAZY! WHEN I FIRST GOT THE CAR THERE WERE A LOT OF CODES THAT THEY COMPLETELY ERASED FROM THE CAR THE DAY AFTER I GOT IT FROM ANOTHER OWNER I WAS ALREADY HAVING ISSUES AND SHE CALLED AND ASKED JUST THERE WAS NO AVAILABLE SLOTS THEN TOO. WHEN INSERTING KEY AND TURNING TO START IGNITION, THE KEY HAS TO BE WIGGLED A LITTLE BIT TO GET IT TO TURN. ALSO, WHEN TURNING IGNITION OFF IT IS EVEN HARDER TO TURN OFF, YOU HAVE REALLY WIGGLE AND TWIST TO THE POINT WHERE YOU'RE ALMOST FORCING IT TO TURN OFF. THE HEIGHT ADJUSTMENT OF THE STEERING WHEEL AFFECTS HOW HARD IT IS TO TURN ON AND OFF. I ALWAYS HAVE THE CAR PARKED WHEN TURNING ON AND OFF THE IGNITION. IT'S BEEN DOING THIS FOR THE LAST YEAR ABOUT BUT HAS BECOME MORE OFTEN THIS HAPPENS IN THE LAST MONTH.

MY JETTA SE 2013 KEEPS STALLING WHILE DRIVING. IT HAPPENED SINCE I BOUGHT IT AND TOOK IT TO THE DEALERSHIP A COUPLE OF TIMES, AND NOTHING WRONG WAS FOUND. IT HAS HAPPENED A FEW TIMES DURING THE HIGHWAY AND ALMOST HAVE BEEN IN A COUPLE OF DEADLY ACCIDENTS. THIS HAS ALSO HAPPENED WHILE DRIVING IN REGULAR STREETS AT ABOUT 30-40MPH.I HAVE BEEN READING THAT THIS IS A COMMON ISSUE, BUT SO FAR VW HAS NOT DONE ANYTHING ABOUT IT. ALSO, BOTH HEADLIGHTS ARE NOT WORKING ANYMORE. IT SEEMS MIGHT BE AN ISSUE WITH SOME SENSORS, BUT NOTHING THAT THEY HAVE BEEN ABLE TO IDENTIFY.

DOORS WOULD REMAIN UNLOCKED WHICH IS A SECURITY ITEM OR IF DOORS DID LOCK, IT WAS NEVER CLEAR IF I COULD OPEN THEM FROM THE INSIDE OR THE OUTSIDE. THIS IS NOT ONLY A SECURITY ITEM BUT A MAJOR SAFETY ISSUE THAT VW GENEROUSLY CHARGED ME OVER $1100.00 TO REPAIR ON MY OWN. IT IS VERY ODD THAT THIS OCCURRED WITH TWO DOORS THAT ARE SELDOM USED AND VW DID NOT HAVE A CONCERN AS THERE WAS NOT A RECALL FOR THE PROBLEM. THIS IS THE EXACT PROBLEM THAT I HAVE BEEN HAVING SINCE THE MANUFACTURES WARRANTY EXPIRED IN JUNE OF 2016. IN THE ATTACHED LETTER IT STATES THAT THE WARRANTY EXTENSION EXTENDED TO ADDRESS THIS PROBLEM WAS FOR 10 YEARS OR 100K WHICHEVER COMES FIRST. I CURRENTLY HAVE ABOUT 104K ON MY VEHICLE, BUT NONE THE LESS TOOK IT INTO VOLKSWAGEN OF THE WOODLANDS IN TEXAS TO HAVE IT DIAGNOSED FOR THIS DEFECTIVE STEERING HOUSING ON 04/28/2018. ALTHOUGH THIS CAR IS OUT OF WARRANTY HOWEVER THIS IS A KNOWN ISSUE AND VW IS AWARE OF THIS ISSUE. THAT FALL I TOOK MY DAUGHTER TO DO HER DRIVERS TEST IN THE JETTA. IT LOST POWER TWICE EN-ROUTE TO THE FACILITY AND LOST POWER AN ADDITIONAL THREE TIMES WHILE I DROVE IT HOME. I TOOK IT TO THE DEALER A FEW DAYS LATER AND IT LOST POWER SEVERAL TIMES ON THE WAY. I COMPLAINED TO DICK DEAN (THE DEALER WE BOUGHT IT FROM) AND TO VOLKSWAGEN ON MULTIPLE OCCASIONS. I TOLD THEM THAT THIS SITUATION THREATENED THE SAFETY OF MY TWO CHILDREN. THE DEALER CLAIMS THAT THEY COULDN'T GET THE CAR TO MIMIC THE COMPLAINT. AUGUST 30, 2014 THIS 2013 VW JETTA 2.5SE HAS HAD AN INTERMITTENT PROBLEM WITH TURNING THE CAR OFF AND REMOVING THE KEY FROM THE IGNITION SINCE ABOUT 10,000 MILES. TODAY IT WENT FROM AN INFREQUENT PROBLEM THAT WAS HARD TO DUPLICATE TO A FULL-BLOWN PROBLEM. IT WILL NO LONGER WORK AT ALL AND IS NOW NON-FUNCTIONAL. IT IS NOT THE STEERING WHEEL LOCKING MECHANISM THAT CAUSES THIS. PRIOR TO TODAY, THE KEY WOULD RANDOMLY NOT TURN TO SHUT OFF THE CAR OR TURN TO START. A SLIGHT PUSH IN AND JIGGLE OF THE KEY WOULD SOLVE THE ISSUE. I ONLY HAVE A HOUSE KEY AND A SMALL VW KEY FOB, NOTHING HEAVY HANGING ON IT THAT WOULD HAVE CAUSED ANY DAMAGE OR WEAR TO THE CYLINDER. TODAY, THE CAR WOULD NOT SHUT OFF AT ALL. TWISTING, PULLING, PUSHING, AND ANY JIGGLING WOULD NOT TURN THE IGNITION INTO THE OFF POSITION FOR ENGINE SHUT OFF AND KEY REMOVAL. FORTUNATELY, MY VEHICLE IS A MANUAL SHIFT AND I WAS ABLE TO SHUT THE ENGINE OFF BY DUMPING THE CLUTCH. THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM WAS STILL ON DUE TO THE KEY BEING IN THE ON-POSITION. I HAD TO REMOVE THE BATTERY CABLE FROM THE TERMINAL TO SHUT THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM OFF AND NOT DRAIN THE BATTERY. MULTIPLE TRIES BY VARIOUS PEOPLE WILL NOT RESOLVE THE ISSUE. THE DEALERSHIPS ARE ALL CLOSED NOW, UNTIL AFTER LABOR DAY, AND WE CANNOT GET THE CAR SERVICED UNTIL AFTER THAT. I WILL BE MAKING AN APPOINTMENT FOR A WARRANTY REPAIR BUT BEING IGNITION CYLINDER ISSUE, I FELT IT SHOULD BE REPORTED. *TR

THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED AND THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 3,000.

SO MY VEHICLE IS A 2013.5 VW JETTA GLI (NHTSA DOES NOT HAVE OPTIONS TO LIST THE VARIANT OF THE CAR). SO THE CAR STALLED ON ME THE FIRST TIME IN JULY WHEN I WAS GETTING OF THE EXIT ....JUST LOST COMPLETE ENGINE POWER ...AND BASICALLY THE CAR SHUT OFF ON ME. THE STEERING GOT REALLY STIFF AND THE BRAKES BECAME HARD AND IT WAS AN EXTREMELY HORRIFIC SITUATION. THE BATTERY INDICATOR CAME ON ...AND THEN AFTER CRANKING THE CAR BACK UP IT RAN FINE. TOOK IT TO THE DEALER THE DAY AFTER (BECAUSE THEY NEEDED AN APPOINTMENT) ...THEY SAID NOTHING WAS WRONG WITH CAR AND THEY REPLACED THE CRANK SHAFT SENSOR AS AN "EDUCATED GUESS". ANYWAYS AFTER ABOUT A WEEK ....THE CAR SHUT OFF ON ME TWICE WITHIN A 5 MINUTE DIFFERENCE. EACH TIME THE BATTERY LIGHT CAME ON AND THAT WAS IT. AND THE LAST TIME THE EPC LIGHT CAME ON AS WELL. DEALER CANNOT FIND ANY PROBLEMS WITH MY CAR SINCE THEY CANNOT REPLICATE AN INTERMITTENT ISSUE. SO THIS IS A MAJOR SAFETY HAZARD ...AND NOT A GOOD FEELING TO LOSE CONTROL OF YOUR CAR IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD.I HAVE LOST COMPLETE FAITH IN VW AND MY CAR. *TR

THE BLUE TOOTH SYSTEM IN ALL OF THE 2013 AND 2014 JETTA WAGONS IN DEFECTIVE. VOLKSWAGEN KNOWS THE SYSTEM IS DEFECTIVE, THE DEALERS KNOW IT IS DEFECTIVE, BUT THEY CONTINUE TO MARKET AND SELL CARS WITH NO PROPOSED FIX TO THE SYSTEM. I HAVE BEEN TOLD THAT ALL OF THE 2013 AND 2014 JETTA WAGONS HAVE THIS PROBLEM BUT I ONLY STATE THAT MINE HAS HAD BLUE TOOTH PROBLEMS FROM DAY ONE, CALLS DROPPED, UNINTELLIGIBLE CALLS, DID NOT DIAL, ETC. I BELIEVE BOTH VOLKSWAGEN AND THE DEALERS HAVE CONSPIRED TO CONTINUE TO MARKET THE CARS AND JUST TELL THE PUBLIC THAT THEY ARE WORKING ON A FIX WHEN IN FACT THEY ARE NOT. AT LEAST THAT IS WHAT I HAVE BEEN TOLD. THIS IS A VERY SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE IN ANY STATE WHERE CELL PHONES ARE PROHIBITED FROM BEING USED, LIKE UTAH. I BELIEVE THAT ALL OF THE JETTA WAGONS SHOULD BE RECALLED, ALL SALES OF NEW WAGONS STOPPED, AND THAT BOTH THE DEALERS AND VOLKSWAGEN SHOULD BE FINED FOR KNOWINGLY MARKETING AND SELLING A DEFECTIVE CAR. *TR

BOTH OF MY LOW BEAM LIGHTS WENT OUT AT THE SAME TIME WHILE DRIVING AT NIGHT AND MY CAR WOULD NOT TURN OFF. MY CAR WAS RUNNING AND COULD NOT BE TURNED OFF.. THE CAR HAD TO BE TAKEN TO THE DEALERSHIP TO TURN OFF THE CAR. IF THE DEALERSHIP HAD BEEN CLOSED OR THE CAR REQUIRED GAS OR I WAS TRAVELING OUT OF TOWN. I WOULD NOT HAVE ANY RECOURSE BUT TO RUN THE CAR UNTIL IT CUT OFF BUT STILL THE KEYS WOULD BE STUCK IN THE IGNITION. BOTH INCIDENT ARE VERY SERIOUS SAFETY CONCERNS..THE IGNITION LOCK HAD TO BE REPLACED AND BOTH LIGHTS HAS TO BE REPLACED AFTER ONLY 42, 000.. THIS IS NOT ROUTINE MAINTENANCE.
