WHEN WE DRIVE THE TRUCK, WHEN YOU PRESS THE BRAKES THEY OFTEN GO ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOOR. DRIVING WHILE ON CITY STREETS AS WELL AS ON THE FREEWAYS. YOU HAVE TO PUMP THEM IN ORDER JUST TO STOP BEFORE HITTING ANYONE. AFTER DRIVING 30 MILES, WE HAVE TO REFILL THE MASTER CYLINDER WITH BRAKE FLUID. WE HAVE TAKEN IT TO THE MECHANIC THREE TIMES FOR THEM TO FIND NO LEAK. A FRIEND LOOKED AT IT AND FOUND THAT THE MASTER CYLINDER IS LEAKING INTO THE BRAKE BOOSTER. WE DO NOT FEEL SAFE DRIVING THIS VEHICLE IN THIS CONDITION. I HAVE AN ARTICLE FROM FOX NEWS STATING THAT OUR YEAR 2004 TOYOTA TUNDRA IS INCLUDED, BUT WHEN I CALLED THE DEALER AS WELL AS ENTERED IT INTO YOUR SYSTEM, THEY STATE IT IS NOT. THIS IS A DANGEROUS CONDITION AND I STRONGLY FEEL THAT OUR VEHICLE SHOULD BE INCLUDED IN THE RECALL. WE HAVE A NEW DRIVER DRIVING AND WILL NOT LET HER DRIVE THIS TRUCK IN THIS CONDITION. WE WOULD FEEL MUCH SAFER IF THIS COULD BE REPAIRED. WE HAVE BE FORTUNATE TO NOT HAVE HAD AN ACCIDENT, BUT WE HAVE HAD MANY CLOSE CALLS, AND THE LEAK SEEMS TO BE HAPPENING MORE AND MORE OFTEN.
THE ABS BRAKING SYSTEM IS ACTIVATED WHEN APPROACHING A STOP SIGN WITH POOR ROAD CONDITIONS. IF THE ROAD CONDITIONS ARE BUMPY AND OR MAY HAVE SOME SMALL WASH OUTS SPOTS. THE BRAKING DISTANCE IS INCREASED. ALSO IN SLICK CONDITION AFTER A SNOW, THE ABS ACTIVATES AND WHEELS LOCK UP. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 TOYOTA TUNDRA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE BRAKE PEDAL TRAVELED ABNORMALLY TO THE FLOORBOARD. THE CONTACT DISCOVERED THAT THE BRAKE LINES WERE FRACTURED. THE DEALER STATED THAT THE BRAKE LINES NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 63,000.
THE 2004 TOYOTA TUNDRA THAT I HAVE HAD TO HAVE THE BOTH FRONT ROTORS REPLACED DUE TO WARPING AND SERIOUS VIBRATIONS DURING BRAKING. I RESEARCHED THIS ON THE TOYOTA FORUMS AND ALL OVER THE INTERNET. THIS IS A WELL DOCUMENTED ISSUE THAT MANY OF US OWNERS HAVE COMPLAINED ABOUT TO TOYOTA. TOYOTA HAS NOT ADDRESSED THIS ISSUE AS THE ROTORS WERE MADE TO SMALL FOR THE SIZE AND WEIGHT OF THE VEHICLE. THIS IS CLEARLY A DESIGN FLAW THAT HAS BEEN OVERLOOKED. VIBRATIONS. FRONT DISC BRAKE ROTORS SUBJECT TO REPEATED WARPING CAUSING FRONT WHEEL TO VIBRATE WHEN BRAKING AND MAKING THE VEHICLE HARD TO CONTROL. *TR
2004 TOYOTA TUNDRA WITH 44000 MILES HAS DEVELOPED A BRAKE PROBLEM. AIR REPEATEDLY GETS INTO THE BRAKE LINES WITH NO LOSS OF FLUID CAUSING THE BRAKE PEDAL TO GO TO THE FLOOR WHEN BRAKING. THE TUNDRA HAS BEEN AT THE DEALER FOR FOUR MONTHS TRYING TO BE REPAIRED, THE TOYOTA REP HAS VISITED ON FIVE SEPARATE OCCASIONS, CALLED THE FACTORY ENGINEERS AND IT IS STILL NOT FIXED! REPAIRS COST TO DATE ARE OVER $3500, TOYOTA PICKED UP $2,000 LEAVING ME OUT OF POCKET $1500+ AND A TRUCK THAT HAS A DEFECTIVE BRAKING SYSTEM THAT MUST BE BLED EVERY 75 MILES TO REMAIN DRIVABLE. THIS PROBLEM STARTED IN MID JANUARY 2008. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 TOYOTA TUNDRA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE STOPPING DISTANCE EXTENDED WHEN HE DEPRESSED THE BRAKE PEDAL. THE DEALER WAS UNABLE TO DIAGNOSE THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE; HOWEVER, THEY ADJUSTED THE BRAKES. APPROXIMATELY SIX MONTHS LATER, THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO A DIFFERENT DEALER AND THEY WERE UNABLE TO DIAGNOSE THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE; HOWEVER, THEY ADJUSTED THE BRAKES AGAIN. AS OF DECEMBER 26, 2007, THE FAILURE HAD NOT RECURRED. THE CONTACT FELT THAT THE SLACK ADJUSTER CAUSED THE FAILURE, BUT THE DEALER STATED THAT THE SLACK ADJUSTER WAS FINE. THE SPEED WAS UNKNOWN. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 10,000 AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 21,000. UPDATED 01/17/08. *LJ
THE BRAKES ON MY 2004 TOYOTA TUNDRA DOUBLE-CAB DO NOT WORK PROPERLY (AND NEVER HAVE). WHEN YOU PRESS ON THE BRAKE PEDAL, THE BRAKES MAKE A LOUD NOISE (NOT THE TYPICAL ANTI-LOCK BRAKE NOISE) AND DO NOT STOP EFFECTIVELY. I'VE ALMOST RAN INTO CARS IN FRONT OF ME. I TOOK IT TO STEVINSON TOYOTA, BUT THEY SAID THE BRAKES WERE FINE. THEY WEREN'T. I TOOK IT PEP BOYS AND THEY REPLACED THE PADS & TURNED THE ROTORS. IT IS BETTER, BUT STILL BAD. I THINK I'LL GET RID OF THE TRUCK. SOMEONE IS GOING TO GET HURT WITH THIS BRAKE SITUATION ON THE TRUCK MODEL. *TR
I OWN A 2004 TOYOTA TUNDRA PURCHASED IN JUNE OF 2004 (NEW). UP TO DATE I HAVE 31,000 (THOUSAND) MILES ON IT AND HAVE BEEN FORCED TO REPLACE THE BRAKES ON THE TRUCK THREE TIMES. I HAVE CALLED AND COMPLAINED TO TOYOTA AND THEY HAVE DONE NOTHING SO FAR. *NM
TOYOTA TUNDRA TRUCK SHAKES UNDER BRAKING. DURING BRAKE SERVICE REAR BRAKE DRUMS FOUND TO BE WARPED. *JB
WHEN I COMPLAINED ABOUT FRONT END BRAKE SHIMMY THEY STATED THERE IS A TSB ON THE FRONT BRAKE SYSTEM. WHEN I ASKED IF DANGEROUS UNTIL I GET FIXED I WAS TOLD NO. I GOT INTO AN ACCIDENT THE DAY BEFORE MY APPOINTMENT TO GET THE TSB REPAIRED. NOW MY BRAKES ARE AT 50% 8 MONTHS AFTER REPLACEMENT AS WELL. *JB
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED THE BRAKE PADS WORE OUT WITH EXTREMELY LOW MILEAGE ON 7 OCCASIONS. THE ROTORS ALSO REQUIRED REPLACEMENT DUE TO PREMATURE FAILURE. THE SERVICE DEALER AND MANUFACTURER WERE NOTIFIED.
MY ABS BRAKE SYSTEM LIGHT COMES ON UNDER CONDITIONS OF COLD (AROUND FREEZING) AND DAMP WEATHER. ONCE THE VEHICLE HAS WARMED UP THE LIGHT GOES OFF, BUT THE ATS DOESN'T WORK UNTIL THAT HAPPENS. TOYOTA REFUSES TO ADDRESS THE ISSUE. THEY CLAIM NO ONE HAS FILED A COMPLAINT. THE TRUCK IS UNDER WARRANTY AND THEY WILL NOT REPLACE ANY PARTS. *NM
I HAVE A 04 DOUBLE CAB TOYOTA TUNDRA. WIFE WAS DRIVING AND TRYING TO STOP .WHEN SHE PRESSED THE BRAKE PEDAL TRUCK KEPT ON ROLLING AND SMASHED INTO THE CAR IN FRONT OF HER. AN INSPECTION WAS DONE ON MY TRUCK AND THEY SAID NOTHING WAS WRONG BUT IT WAS TOTALED BY THE BODY SHOP SO THERE WAS NOTHING TO CHANGE OR FIX. I'VE BEEN LOOKING AT A WEB SITE CALLED TUNDRA SOLUTIONS AND THERE IS MORE PEOPLE WITH THIS SAME BRAKING PROBLEM OR BRAKE FADE AS THE CALL IT. PLEASE FEEL FREE TO CALL ME TO GET MORE INFO. *NM
DT: CONSUMER NEEDS NEW BRAKE ROTORS AND PAD. THEY NEEDED TO BE REPLACED AFTER 13,000 MILES. THE REAR BRAKES WERE ALSO OUT OF ADJUSTMENT.*AK *SB *NM
1) NORMAL EVERYDAY DRIVING. 2)FRONT ROTARS WARPED AND REAR DRUMS WARPED CAUSED ERRATIC STOPING ABILITY AND VIBRATION. 3)RECUT ROTARS AND DRUMS. NEW PADS IN FRONT. PROBLEM IS BACK AFTER ABOUT 500 MILES.
WHILE DRIVINGTHE VEHICLE SKIDDED INTO THE RIGHT LANE. DRIVER APPLIED THE BRAKES AND THE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR. DRIVER WAS ABLE TO MAINTAIN CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE, AND TOOK VEHICLE TO THE DEALER FOR INSPECTION. HOWEVER, MECHANIC INSISTED THAT THE PROBLEM COULD NOT BE DUPLICATED. *AK
VEHICLE IS EXPERIENCING BRAKE FAILURE. WHILE DRIVING DOWN HILL IN LIGHT SNOW THE VEHICLE WAS PICKING UP SPEED AS THE BRAKES WERE APPLIED. TOOK THE VEHICLE INTO THE DEALERSHIP, AND WAS TOLD THAT THIS WAS THE NORMAL FUNCTION OF THE BRAKES, AND EVERYTHING WAS WORKING CORRECTLY. *AK
