POWER TRAIN:DRIVELINE:DRIVESHAFT

Toyota Motor Engineering & Manufacturing (Toyota) is recalling certain 2025 Tacoma and Tacoma Hybrid vehicles. The front driveshaft constant-velocity (CV) joint may deform and break.

Fix: Dealers will inspect and replace both front driveshaft assemblies as necessary, free of charge. Interim letters notifying owners of the safety risk were mailed November 14, 2025. Additional letters will be sent once the final remedy is available, anticipated March 2026. Owners may contact Toyota's customer service at 1-800-331-4331. Toyota's numbers for this recall are 25TB11 and 25TA11.

Your transmission shifts roughly, especially when slowing down to a stop, and makes a loud clunking noise that feels like something heavy is falling inside. This problem has been present since the vehicle was new.

Your new truck's transmission overheating warning light came on while driving normally on a flat freeway at highway speeds with no extra weight or towing. The dealership says this is caused by normal driving, but you're concerned because you've never experienced this in other vehicles and had to pull over for safety. A transmission fluid cooler or flush may be needed to resolve the overheating issue.

Your 2025 Toyota Tacoma is subject to a recall (Campaign 25V656000) affecting the powertrain, but the dealer told you that replacement parts aren't available yet. You contacted Toyota about the delay, and they've opened a case to explore a potential buyback option since the repair hasn't been completed within a reasonable timeframe. The fix will likely involve replacing powertrain components once parts become available.

When you turned left at low speed while in 4-wheel-drive (4H mode), your Tacoma made a grinding noise from the front and wouldn't move forward. Switching back to 2-wheel-drive (2H), reversing a short distance, and then shifting to drive allowed the vehicle to proceed normally. This issue is consistent with CV joint problems reported in other 2024 and 2025 Tacomas. The dealer has been notified and will inspect the front-wheel drive components.

Toyota issued a recall for your Tacoma's powertrain about six months ago, but the dealership has been slow to schedule and complete the repair. You were initially told the fix would happen in November, then later told early 2026, but neither timeline was met. The repair typically involves checking or replacing powertrain components as specified in the recall notice.

You were towing a trailer in Tow/Haul mode on the highway when you stopped at a rest area and turned off the engine. When you restarted and tried to merge back onto the highway, your truck didn't accelerate as quickly as before — you discovered the truck had automatically exited Tow/Haul mode when you shut off the engine, but there was no warning about this change. This unexpected loss of acceleration created a safety concern while merging into traffic.
