Owner-Reported Issues (20 of 698)
Power Train →8 issues
Your transmission began shifting poorly, with delayed engagement when putting the car in drive or reverse, hesitation during acceleration, and inconsistent power delivery at low speeds—sometimes the engine would rev without accelerating, then suddenly jerk forward. These unpredictable responses created unsafe driving conditions, especially when merging or accelerating from a stop. The problems worsened over time and led to complete transmission failure, making your car undrivable. Your dealership has confirmed you need a full transmission replacement.

Your Camry started making loud noises and jerking forward with hesitation over a couple months. A dealer found the issue but suggested only a software update with no guarantee it would help, so you delayed. Days later, the jerking and loud noises got much worse during rush hour traffic, the car failed to accelerate and completely stopped, and you smelled burning. The dealer determined your transmission has completely failed. Addressing this will likely require a full transmission replacement.

Your transmission has stopped responding properly to Drive and Reverse commands, and even after a professional fluid service, it's stuck in a high gear that requires very high engine speeds just to move slowly. This severely limits your ability to accelerate safely in traffic. The repair will likely require a complete transmission replacement, which Toyota is quoting at over $5,000.

While driving in traffic, your car suddenly lost the ability to accelerate even though the engine was still running and you were pressing the gas pedal. The problem happened without warning while you were already moving, creating a dangerous situation where other vehicles could rear-end you, and you couldn't safely merge, cross intersections, or maintain speed. The issue appeared intermittent and unpredictable, with no dashboard warning lights beforehand. A transmission inspection, fluid check, or potential transmission replacement may be needed to diagnose and fix the acceleration loss.

Your transmission makes a loud winding noise whenever you accelerate, but the noise stops when you release the gas pedal. This sound could indicate an internal transmission problem that may need attention before it gets worse.

Your transmission makes a whining noise whenever you press the accelerator, but the noise stops when you release it. In some cases, the transmission may stop working unexpectedly. This appears to be a known issue affecting the 8-speed transmission in this model year. The transmission may need inspection, fluid replacement, or internal repairs to address the whining and prevent potential failure.

Your transmission is slipping, hesitating, or delaying when it shifts gears, making your car feel unpredictable and unsafe to drive. You've kept up with regular maintenance and even had the transmission fluid flushed and refilled, but the problem persists. Your dashboard warning lights aren't on, so the issue may not be immediately obvious to a diagnostic scan. The transmission may need professional inspection to identify whether it's a fluid issue, internal wear, or a sensor problem.

Your transmission failed at 145,000 miles, and three independent mechanics confirmed the failure. An ICS (Integrated Control System) malfunction warning appeared two days before the transmission stopped working. Fixing this will likely require transmission repair or replacement.

Power Train,vehicle Speed Control,engine →2 issues
Your car is experiencing poor acceleration and loss of transmission control, with a humming noise and jerking when shifting gears. The engine loses power while driving, which creates a safety hazard. The issue likely involves the transmission or engine control system and may require diagnostic testing and potential repair or replacement of transmission components.

Your engine revs but the car won't accelerate beyond about 15 mph, even after turning it off and restarting. This happened while driving in slow traffic, and the problem persists when you try to drive again. Two mechanics have diagnosed that your transmission needs to be replaced, which is surprising for a vehicle under 100,000 miles with regular maintenance. The fix will require a full transmission replacement or rebuild.

Visibility →2 issues
Your 2018 Camry's sunroof is stuck in the open/tilt position and won't close. Independent mechanics have declined to repair it due to risk of breaking the glass or mechanism, recommending only a Toyota dealership attempt the fix. The open sunroof allows water to enter your vehicle, which can damage electrical components, promote mold growth, and reduce visibility in rain, while also compromising your car's structural integrity. Fixing this issue may require complete sunroof mechanism replacement or glass panel repair.

Your panoramic roof is stuck in the vented (partially open) position and won't close all the way. When you try to close it, the window makes loud noises but stays open, and there's no manual way to shut it. This appears to be a known issue affecting multiple model years of this vehicle. Fixing this will likely require service to the roof motor, tracks, or electronic control system.

Steering →1 issue
Your steering became progressively harder to turn, starting with tightness and eventually becoming completely unresponsive. A mechanic found that the steering intermediate shaft assembly had a manufacturing defect that prevented the steering from working at all. This same defect has been reported in other 2018 Toyota Camrys.

Electrical System, engine, forward Collision Avoidance →1 issue
Your Intelligent Clearance Sonar (ICS) system triggered a malfunction warning light, along with a check engine light. You received a recall notice about this issue, but now your water pump has failed and your engine is overheating. This could cause serious engine damage if not addressed immediately.

Power Train, forward Collision Avoidance →1 issue
Your transmission suddenly failed while you were driving on the highway, causing you to nearly lose control of the vehicle. The transmission stopped working without any warning signs. Repairing or replacing the transmission will likely be needed to restore normal driving function.

Fuel/propulsion System →1 issue
Your 2018 Camry's low pressure fuel pump may be causing hesitation or brief engine cutoffs when you accelerate from a stop, which could increase your risk of being rear-ended. This problem has happened intermittently since your car was new, even though Toyota says your vehicle identification number isn't part of their recall. The engine cuts off very briefly during these hesitation events, and you're concerned about safety despite having only 40,000 miles on the vehicle.

Suspension,power Train →1 issue
Your car developed a transmission leak and ball joint failure around 80,000 miles. After the initial repair, you noticed the vehicle jerked when you pressed the accelerator at various speeds. The dealer determined the transmission needs to be replaced, but the part is on backorder and hasn't been repaired yet. The fix will require a full transmission replacement once the part becomes available.

Service Brakes, forward Collision Avoidance →1 issue
Your 2018 Camry's automatic braking system only watches the road ahead and doesn't monitor cars behind you. When a car ahead stopped suddenly, your car braked hard on its own — even though you had safe following distance and were more worried about a tailgating vehicle behind you. This sudden braking forced the car behind you to swerve onto the shoulder to avoid hitting you, creating a dangerous situation the system didn't anticipate. The system resets to "on" every time you start the car, making it inconvenient to disable.

Electrical System →1 issue
You purchased a 2018 Toyota Camry that appears to have odometer fraud. The vehicle showed 90,328 miles when you bought it, but the actual mileage was later discovered to be 294,568 miles during registration. This is a significant discrepancy that suggests the odometer was tampered with or reset. Addressing this issue may require contacting local law enforcement, your state's Attorney General, or pursuing legal action against the seller.

Service Brakes →1 issue
Your brake power assist system failed because the vacuum pump stopped working. You noticed the problem gradually — at first inconsistent brake assist and light knocking sounds, which worsened over time into loud knocking and frequent brake error messages. The dealership and Toyota declined to cover the repair under warranty despite this being a known issue with an active service bulletin, leaving you with a repair bill over $1,800. The fix will require replacing the failed vacuum pump and possibly inspecting the brake assist system.
