Your vehicle rolled backward while parked on May 12, 2024, even though it was in Park. The door struck you as the car moved, and it rolled over your leg, causing injuries to your lower leg, ankle, and foot. You haven't been able to reproduce the problem since, and the dealer says they're not aware of any similar issues. A thorough inspection of the parking brake system and transmission shift mechanism may be needed to identify why the vehicle moved.

Your passenger-side mirror has been missing since March 2025, and you ordered a replacement part in April that was supposed to arrive within weeks. As of July 2025, delivery has been delayed to August, leaving your car without critical visibility for safe driving. Getting the mirror replaced will involve installing the new mirror assembly once it arrives.

Your tires may be wearing out unusually fast due to damage that occurred during the tire mounting process at the factory. A misaligned part on the assembly equipment may have stressed the tire's inner structure, which could eventually cause the tire to fail suddenly and lose air pressure while driving. Subaru will replace all four tires for free, and you should contact your dealer to confirm if your vehicle is covered by this recall.

Your 2023 Ascent is getting 15-17 MPG in city driving, while the window sticker promised 20 MPG city and 22 MPG combined. Even on a highway trip, you only achieved 20 MPG despite resetting the meter and filling up fresh. You're concerned that Subaru's fuel economy claims on the monroney label may be inaccurate, especially since achieving the advertised numbers seems to require unusually cautious driving habits like keeping RPMs under 2000 and avoiding normal acceleration.

Service Brakes →3 issues
Your 2023 Subaru Ascent has experienced recurring brake problems even after recall repairs in September 2024. You've noticed violent steering wheel vibration, loud grinding noises, and unsafe braking—particularly when braking downhill—and these issues returned in March 2025, worse than before. Instead of replacing the faulty components again, the dealer resurfaced the rotors, which only temporarily masked the problem rather than fixing the underlying defect. The repair process should involve diagnosing and replacing the brake rotors, pads, and related components with new parts using proper installation procedures.

Your front brakes are vibrating and causing your steering wheel to shake, even after Subaru replaced the brake rotors and pads under recall in September 2024. The problem came back after less than 9,000 miles, and when you brought it back, the dealership resurfaced the old rotors instead of replacing them as their service bulletin requires. An independent inspection found the rotors are worn beyond acceptable limits with excessive runout, but Subaru says the vehicle is operating normally. Fixing this issue will likely require replacing the front brake rotors and pads with properly measured components that meet specification.

Your brakes have needed service three times in a short period, even after one replacement and one service visit. You're concerned about safety and feel the brakes aren't holding up as they should. The dealership will need to inspect and service the brake system again to determine if there's an underlying issue causing premature wear.

Visibility/wiper →3 issues
Your windshield appears to be unusually prone to cracking. Small chips in the glass are quickly expanding into larger cracks within minutes of appearing. This makes the windshield difficult to see through and unsafe to drive with.

Your 2023 Subaru Ascent's front windshield has cracked three times in 20 months from minor rock impacts, and you've already had it replaced twice with OEM glass in just three months. You're concerned that the windshield is too fragile and poses a safety risk, affects your vehicle's structural integrity, and is reducing your car's value. A windshield replacement or repair will likely involve ordering OEM glass from Subaru and having it professionally installed to ensure proper sealing and structural integrity.

Your windshield is prone to chipping easily on normal road driving — you may see multiple chips appear within a short time. These small chips tend to spread quickly into longer cracks across the glass, potentially affecting visibility and structural integrity. You'll likely need windshield replacement or repair to address the damage.

Forward Collision Avoidance →2 issues
Your car's forward collision avoidance system suddenly applied the brakes hard and brought your vehicle to a complete stop while you were driving at 40 mph on a highway bridge in clear daylight conditions with no obstacles present. There was no warning before the braking occurred, giving you little time to react. This unexpected braking could cause another vehicle to hit you from behind.

Your Eyesight forward collision avoidance system is turning off intermittently, and you're seeing a warning message that says the function is disabled along with a white icon with a line through it. The dealer couldn't reproduce the problem during testing, but after documenting multiple occurrences, they told you that Subaru's field engineer was made aware and said there's no fix available. The issue started appearing around 3,000 miles and hasn't been resolved.

Air Bags,vehicle Speed Control,service Brakes →2 issues
Your car accelerated on its own while you were braking slowly to park (1-2 mph), causing you to lose control and crash into an apartment building. The automatic emergency braking system did not activate, and the airbags did not deploy despite the collision. A police report was filed, and both your vehicle and the building sustained significant damage.

Your vehicle experienced sudden, unintended acceleration without you pressing the gas pedal, and the brakes didn't stop it as expected. The car crashed through your garage, and you couldn't regain control despite attempting to brake. No warning lights appeared before this happened. This defect affects the vehicle's speed control and braking systems, creating a serious safety risk.

Power Train, forward Collision Avoidance →1 issue
While making a left turn at low speed through an intersection, your car's wheels suddenly stopped turning even though you were pressing the accelerator and nothing was blocking the road. A message appeared on your dashboard, but you couldn't read it, and cars behind you honked as your vehicle came to an unexpected halt. After putting the car in park and restarting it, you were able to drive to a safe location and then to the dealer for diagnosis.

Lane Departure →1 issue
Your 2023 Subaru Ascent's EyeSight Driver Assist system is causing your vehicle to suddenly jerk into adjacent lanes without warning, particularly when semi-trucks are nearby. This has happened multiple times to both you and your husband, forcing you to take immediate corrective action to avoid collisions. The issue appears to be a malfunction in the lane-keeping or object-detection component of the EyeSight system that may require recalibration or software updates.

Electrical System,structure,engine →1 issue
Your car's warning lights flashed and the engine shut down while you were driving on the highway. Within less than a minute, the engine caught fire and the car became engulfed in flames. This is a critical safety issue involving a potential electrical or engine malfunction that led to a fire.

Lane Departure, forward Collision Avoidance →1 issue
Your Subaru EyeSight safety system is turning off randomly while driving or parked, and won't restart even after you restart the vehicle — leaving you without this key safety feature. You might see an orange indicator light on your dashboard or a small red "i" light when this happens, but you won't get a warning before it fails. The system should only shut down in heavy rain, snow, or fog and restart automatically, but yours is also shutting down in sunlight and when there's windshield condensation. The fix will likely involve diagnosing the camera system or related sensors that control EyeSight, and possibly replacing or recalibrating them.

Suspension,power Train,forward Collision Avoidance →1 issue
Your car's automatic braking system is activating unexpectedly and at inappropriate times, creating unsafe situations rather than preventing them. This suggests the forward collision avoidance sensors may be malfunctioning or miscalibrated. A technician will likely need to inspect the sensor alignment, clean the sensors, and potentially recalibrate or replace them to restore proper function.

Seats →1 issue
Your heated seats only get lukewarm and provide barely noticeable heat, even though other owners report their seats get very hot on the same model. The Subaru dealer said this is normal, but you've found many online complaints from other owners experiencing the same problem. You're concerned that defective heating elements could be a safety risk, potentially causing a fire or electrical hazard if the energy isn't being used properly. The fix may involve diagnosing the heating circuit, testing the seat heating elements, and potentially replacing a faulty heating pad or control module.
