NHTSA Campaign: 20V008000

Component: AIR BAGS:FRONTAL:PASSENGER SIDE:INFLATOR MODULE

Nissan North America, Inc. (Nissan) is recalling certain 2001-2003 Maxima, 2002-2006 Sentra, 2002-2004 Pathfinder, 2007-2011 Versa Sedan and Versa Hatchback, 2001-2004 Infiniti I30 and I35, 2002-2003 Inifiniti QX4, 2003-2008 Infiniti FX35 and FX45 and 2006-2010 M35 and M45 vehicles. The vehicles are equipped with non-desiccated, frontal passenger air bag inflators containing phase stabilized ammonium nitrate (PSAN) propellant that were used as interim remedy parts for previous Takata recalls. These inflators may explode due to propellant degradation occurring after long-term exposure to high absolute humidity, high temperatures, and high temperature cycling.

Risk: An inflator explosion may result in sharp metal fragments striking the driver or other occupants resulting in serious injury or death.

Fix: Nissan will notify owners, and dealers will replace the front passenger air bag inflators with alternate desiccated inflators, free of charge. The recall began February 12, 2020. Owners may contact Nissan customer service at 888-737-9511 or Infiniti customer service at 888-810-3715.

NHTSA Campaign: 20V747000

Component: AIR BAGS:FRONTAL:PASSENGER SIDE:INFLATOR MODULE

Nissan North America, Inc. (Nissan) is recalling certain 2002-2006 Sentra vehicles whose passenger air bags were previously inspected and may have been released without replacing the Takata air bag inflator. In the event of a crash, Takata frontal passenger air bag inflators may explode due to propellant degradation occurring after long-term exposure to high absolute humidity, high temperatures, and high temperature cycling.

Risk: An inflator explosion may result in sharp metal fragments striking the driver or other occupants resulting in serious injury or death.

Fix: Owners are advised not to drive their vehicles until the repair has been completed. Nissan will notify owners, and dealers will re-inspect the vehicle and, if necessary, replace the air bag inflator, free of charge. The recall began January 22, 2021. Owners may contact Nissan customer service at 1-800-867-7669. Nissan's number for this recall is PM964.

NHTSA Campaign: 15V287000

Component: AIR BAGS

Nissan North America, Inc. (Nissan) is recalling certain model year 2001-2003 Nissan Maxima, 2002-2004 Pathfinder, 2002-2006 Sentra, 2002-2003 Infiniti QX4 and I35, 2003 FX35 and FX45, and 2001 I30 vehicles. Upon deployment of the passenger side frontal air bag, excessive internal pressure may cause the inflator to rupture.

Risk: In the event of a crash necessitating deployment of the passenger's frontal air bag, the inflator could rupture with metal fragments striking the vehicle occupants potentially resulting in serious injury or death.

Fix: Nissan will notify owners, and dealers will replace the passenger air bag inflator, free of charge. The recall began on June 15, 2015. Owners may contact Nissan customer service at 1-800-647-7261. Note: On December 18, 2015 Nissan informed NHTSA of an amendment of this recall to remove 2004-2005 Infiniti FX35 and FX45 vehicles.

NHTSA Campaign: 06V223000

Component: ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING

CERTAIN PASSENGER VEHICLES EQUIPPED WITH 2.5L ENGINES MAY EXPERIENCE EXCESSIVE ENGINE OIL CONSUMPTION AS A RESULT OF IMPROPER PERFORMANCE OF THE PISTON RINGS.

Risk: IF THE OIL IS NOT MAINTAINED AT LEAST AT THE MINIMUM LEVEL, ENGINE DAMAGE CAN OCCUR AND IN EXTREME CASES RESULT IN AN ENGINE FIRE.

Fix: DEALERS WILL REPROGRAM THE ELECTRONIC CONTROL MODULE (ECM OR ENGINE COMPUTER). YOUR VEHICLE WILL ALSO BE INSPECTED TO DETERMINE IF IT HAS BEEN CONSUMING ENGINE OIL AT A HIGHER THAN NORMAL RATE. IN A SMALL PERCENTAGE OF VEHICLES, ENGINE REPLACEMENT WILL BE NEEDED. ON JUNE 9, 2006, NISSAN NOTIFIED OWNERS OF THE POSSIBILITY OF EXCESSIVE OIL CONSUMPTION AND THE IMPORTANCE OF MAINTAINING THE OIL AT A PROPER LEVEL. FOLLOW-UP LETTER TO OWNERS ADVISING THEM OF THE STATUS OF THE RECALL WAS SENT DURING AUGUST 2006. FOLLOWUP LETTER TO OWNERS WAS SENT ON NOVEMBER 15, 2006. OWNERS MAY CONTACT NISSAN AT 1-800-647-7261.

NHTSA Campaign: 07V527000

Component: ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING

ON CERTAIN PASSENGER VEHICLES EQUIPPED WITH A 2.5L ENGINE, THE CRANKSHAFT POSITION SENSOR CAN OVERHEAT CAUSING A BRIEF INTERRUPTION IN THE SIGNAL OUTPUT FROM THE SENSOR.

Risk: IF THE INTERRUPTION IN THE SIGNAL FROM THE CRANKSHAFT POSITION SENSOR IS SO BRIEF THAT THE ELECTRONIC CONTROL MODULE (ECM) LOGIC DOES NOT HAVE TIME TO DIAGNOSE THE CONDITION, THE ENGINE MAY STOP RUNNING WITHOUT WARNING WHILE THE VEHICLE IS DRIVEN AT A LOW SPEED INCREASING THE RISK OF A CRASH.

Fix: DEALERS WILL REPROGRAM THE ECM FREE OF CHARGE. CERTAIN MY 2006 ALTIMAS WHICH HAVE BEEN PREVIOUSLY REMEDIED UNDER RECALL CAMPAIGN 06V223 (NISSAN R0606) ARE NOT INCLUDED IN THIS RECALL SINCE THE REPROGRAMMING FOR 06V223 ALSO INCLUDED THIS REPROGRAMMING. THE RECALL BEGAN ON DECEMBER 31, 2007. OWNERS MAY CONTACT NISSAN AT 1-800-647-7261.

CrashFiled: Dec 2017

Your airbags deployed unexpectedly while you were closing the door with the vehicle stationary, and then the steering wheel and dashboard airbags deployed again while driving on a rural road. The passenger side airbag did not deploy. Nissan initially said there was no recall, but after a recall was issued, they refused to replace the deployed airbags, claiming it was not their responsibility. The repair will likely involve replacing all deployed airbag modules and the airbag control module to restore proper function.

CrashFiled: Nov 2017

Your wife was in a side-impact accident where the passenger side fender and rim were damaged, but there was no front-end damage. Both the driver and passenger airbags deployed even though the impact was to the side of the vehicle. This suggests the airbag system may have been triggered inappropriately for a side-impact collision.

CrashFiled: May 2018

Your engine is burning through oil extremely quickly — about 3 quarts per week — and you've noticed smoke coming from the engine. While driving, the check engine light came on, the engine died on the freeway, and you found the oil level was completely empty. This is a serious fire risk and requires immediate inspection to find where the oil is leaking or burning from.

Filed: Mar 2022

Your car struggles to accelerate smoothly, especially when starting from a stop at traffic lights, which creates a safety concern with vehicles behind you. You've researched online and found many other owners reporting the same issue. Even after replacing the EVAP canister, the acceleration problem persists.

NHTSA #: 11455215
Engine And Engine Cooling1 issue
criticalENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING
Filed: Apr 2022

While driving at 50 mph on the highway exit, your car suddenly lost power and wouldn't accelerate. You also lost power steering and brakes, and the dashboard went blank. After pulling over safely, the car wouldn't restart at first, but eventually started after several attempts. A diagnostic scan showed a crankshaft position sensor fault code, which matches a known manufacturer recall for this model year. The issue may require replacement of the crankshaft position sensor and related wiring.

NHTSA #: 11459921
Steering1 issue
criticalSTEERING
Filed: Dec 2020

Your steering wheel lock lever isn't holding the wheel in place securely. This causes the steering wheel to shift and move while you're driving, making it very difficult to control the car, especially on highways where you've nearly hit other vehicles.

Vehicle Speed Control1 issue
criticalVEHICLE SPEED CONTROL
Filed: Mar 2018

Your car unexpectedly accelerated to 90 mph from a stop because the accelerator pedal got stuck to the floor. This happened without you pressing the pedal. The issue involves the pedal mechanism getting jammed in the fully depressed position.

Filed: Jun 2025

Your driver's side seat belt won't retract properly. A body shop identified this as a safety issue and recommended dealer service, but the Nissan dealer said the part is discontinued and couldn't offer a repair solution. The dealership suggested you research aftermarket options yourself, though both shops consider it a safety concern.

Filed: Apr 2023

Your car hesitated and stalled while driving at various speeds, though it restarted each time. The check engine light came on, and diagnostic codes indicated problems with the crankshaft sensor and transmission control module. The dealer wanted to charge a diagnostic fee and the manufacturer confirmed no recall applies to your vehicle.

Filed: Oct 2021

You brought your 2006 Sentra to the dealer for a recalled airbag repair and a transmission fluid flush. After getting the vehicle back, you noticed the transmission fluid looked unchanged despite the flush, and the airbag repair didn't appear to be completed properly. You're concerned that neither repair was actually performed. The issue was reported to Nissan at 106,000 miles.

Filed: May 2021

Your car's drive-by-wire system may malfunction when the check engine light is on, causing the vehicle to drag through red lights unless you shift into neutral. The engine also idles too high and the torque converter may not be disengaging properly. This issue likely requires diagnostic scanning to identify the underlying engine code and potential repairs to the fuel system, throttle control, or transmission components.
