Nissan North America, Inc. (Nissan) is recalling certain 2014-2020 Rogue and 2017-2022 Rogue Sport vehicles equipped with a jackknife style ignition key. The jackknife key may collapse into a folded position while driving.
Risk: Driver contact with a key in the collapsed position could inadvertently shut off the vehicle while driving, increasing the risk of a crash. Additionally, if the vehicle shuts off while driving, the air bags may not deploy in a crash as intended, increasing the risk of injury.
Fix: Dealers will insert a spacer into the key slot of the jackknife key, free of charge. Interim notification letters notifying owners of the safety risk were mailed March 29, 2023. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed August 30, 2023. Owners may contact Nissan's customer service at 1-800-867-7669. Nissan's number for this recall is R22C5.

Your rear windshield shattered when you closed the driver's side door. After getting the windshield replaced, the driver's door started malfunctioning—it opens fully but then closes partway on its own. Resetting the door didn't resolve the issue. The fix may involve inspecting and adjusting the door latch mechanism or power door lock system, which could have been damaged during the windshield replacement.

Your car's check engine light comes on intermittently, and when it does, you experience jerking and hesitation when accelerating — the car surges then loses power. The dealership has been unable to diagnose the issue because the warning lights don't always appear during visits, making it difficult to pinpoint the problem. The issue has been recurring for over a year despite multiple dealership trips, and you're facing a three-week wait for the next appointment.

Your driver's side door lock is failing and won't stay locked, even after you press the lock button on the dashboard, key fob, or ignition key. This means your car may unlock unexpectedly when parked, creating a security risk if someone could enter while you're away or preventing you from exiting quickly in an emergency. The dealership identified a faulty door lock actuator as the cause, which typically requires replacement of the actuator assembly.

Electrical System →4 issues
Your driver's door won't lock using the key fob or the interior lock button—you have to lock it manually each time. The door lock actuator (the mechanism that locks/unlocks the door) appears to be broken, and your car has been left unlocked without your knowledge because of this. The automatic lock feature that normally engages while driving is no longer working. The fix will likely involve replacing the faulty door lock actuator.

Your driver's door electric lock actuator has failed, so the door won't lock using the interior buttons, exterior handle button, or key fob — even though your car may appear locked. When you open the door, the alarm sounds because the car thinks it's locked when it isn't, creating a safety concern while driving or during an emergency. The manual lock still works, but you'll need to replace the electric door lock actuator to restore full functionality.

Your car's door lock actuator has stopped working properly, leaving you unable to lock or unlock your doors reliably. This is a significant safety concern since you can't secure your vehicle or access it when needed. The repair will likely involve replacing the faulty door lock actuator mechanism.

Your front driver and passenger door locks aren't working properly — neither the physical key locks nor the electronic switches on the doors respond. This is happening on a car with less than 35,000 miles, so it's still relatively new. The fix will likely involve diagnosing and repairing or replacing the door lock actuators or electrical connections.

The fire department extinguished the fire, but the cause remains undetermined and your vehicle was declared a total loss.

Seat Belts →1 issue
Your rear passenger-side seat belt buckle got stuck and wouldn't release while the vehicle was parked. When you tried to release it, the belt continued to tighten instead, so you had to cut the strap to free the passenger. This happened at 128,000 miles with no warning lights.
