Kia America, Inc. (Kia) is recalling certain 2011 Sorento vehicles. An engine compartment fire can occur while driving.
Fix: Dealers will install Knock Sensor Detection System (KSDS) software and replace the engine as necessary, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed February 9, 2024. Owners may contact Kia customer service at 1-800-333-4542. Kia's number for this recall is SC291.

Engine light flashes fast then Kia will slow down to about 30 mph when going up a hill, I've make claims on this Kia for the fire loss, transmission, brakes and now it won't run unless I pay $85 to have the sensor reset which lasts a short time and the light starts flashing again. Was told it doesn't qualify for a new engine because the mileage is over 150,000.
No oil after filling up with 4qts. Engine over built compression and blew hole through bottom of the block which caused a fire underneath
Was driving on the [XXX] with my children and puppy on a truck/car route and my engine made a noise and the car slowed down and jerked. I pulled over, turned my car off to check for smoke, leaked, and my tires but nothing seemed wrong. When I tried to start the car the engine light came on blinking and then the battery and oil light came on. I smell something burning inside the car when after one hour driving it and not feel safe, right after picking the car up from the dealership after the recall service, the engine starts shutting off every time I stop ped at a stop sign or light, the engine also stops every time I go 25 scare me so much, the kia losing power everytime going up hills. The dealership suppose to replace that Engine, I told them about the issue and nothing is done to replace it. instead they look at other issues in order to make money instead of fixing the engine recall issue before something worse happens down the road. I have a problem with my Kia Sorento since last year and I expensed a lot money with the eng8ne. The motor is broken down. Also, one shop gave me the receipt, 4 guys for $59 because I refuse any repair again. But, the other shop mechanic where I expensed a lot of money does not give me the receipt, inspire of my request they have not given me the receipt yet. I am so embarrassed, I expensed a lot $5500 for the repair. And, another shop too for $500. Thanks

I brought my 2011 Kia Sorento in to Jeff Wyler Kia in Fairfield, Ohio on [XXX] to be checked after receiving notification of a recall campaign for the engine. According to the recall an engine compartment fire can start while driving, and the recall stated engine smoke and/or the smell of burning oil were causes for concern. The remedy was for Kia to replace the engine. Since my vehicle was experiencing both, I scheduled the appointment. I mentioned the smoke seemed to be coming from the rear of the engine, and that it was burning through oil but I never had any oil spots on my driveway.(They specifically asked about this.) I was told that after a complete inspection my vehicle did not qualify for the recall as something else was causing the problem, a leaky seal around the oil pan. Didn't sound right to me but since they are certified mechanics and I'm not I paid for the repair. After the service I noticed the issue was persisting, so I returned to Kia to show them there was still a problem. They assured me this was just residual oil burning off the engine and it would stop in a few days. I then started to notice oil spots under my car where I hadn't before I brought it in for service. Soon after, the engine starting shutting down while driving creating a serious safety issue. When I couldn't get it to start back up, I had it towed back to Kia at my own expense. That was on [XXX] and they still can't tell me what the problem is, only that it is not related to the recall or the service they have provided. They charged me $369.64 for an unnecessary repair that did not fix the issue it was brought in for, and they want to charge me for the diagnostics they are currently allegedly performing on it. They are assuming no responsibility for the issue, even though their negligence in that first visit clearly caused additional harm to the engine, compromising the safety of me and my family. I received a letter in the mail dated February 9th, 2024. This letter stated there was a recall on my car to mitigate any unreasonable fire risk due to potential engine damage. It states to take the car to a Kia dealer so they can inspect and, if need be, replace the engine. It is recall number [XXX]. It states the recall will be repaired at no cost to me. However when I took the car to the dealership, the employee i dealt with told me that it had a very strong burning plastic smell, valve cover is warped, leaking oil onto exhaust manifold and suggest to replace the intake valve and valve cover. I was also told the engine was leaking oil, valve cover and intake leaking. I was then estimated for a total of $1,213.78+tax for the manifold replacement, $454.62 for valve cover replacement, and $211.27 for rear brake lamp assembly. So I would like to file a formal complaint against the BIll Walsh Kia Dealership in Ottawa, IL. for their inability to remedy this defect without charge. I drive my 3 year old daughter around in this car, it is my biggest asset, it gets me to work, it feeds my child, it pays my bills. If my safety is at risk or my child's safety because of the negligence of Kia, they should fix it at their cost. Unknown. Oil leaked totally out happened March 16th 2024. Had car towed oil light came on when oil totally leaked out. Having it looked at on March 26th 2024
Oil was serviced mid-January, driven intermittently where oil level checked right after service before trip to college (it was full) and oil level checked again March 7 before a trip to Florida and it showed full. During trip (approx 590 miles after starting trip0, engine failed while driving on interstate causing a safety concern - driver was not able to steer or do any movement of vehicle causing a potential dangerous situation for driver, passengers and other vehicles on interstate. A tow truck was called and vehicle was towed to nearest auto mechanic shop, Will's Auto Mechanic Shop in Jasper, Florida. They indicated the engine was locked up and no longer functional with diagnosis of no oil in engine where dip stick was dry and they did not see any visible leaks. In addition, no check engine or oil light appeared throughout drive prior to engine stopping on interstate. Called insurance although doubtful anything will be covered. Will's Auto indicated will cost approx $3K for engine plus minimum $1,500 in labor to replace engine. If doesn't make sense to replace engine, car worth $150 in scrap as they do not purchase and re-sell vehicles at shop which is 14 hours away from our home. Researched and saw same engine for 2012 Kia Sorento was recalled for similar engine issues with no warning lamps.

When I was driving my SUV engine light came and there was some noise then engine stopped working. Then didn't turn on. It was very bad.
i was driving home from work on 12/22/23 when all of my dashboard lights came on and my engine died. I was in motion when this happened. I put the hazards on and put the car in park and tried to restart it. As I was doing that I was hit from behind by another vehicle. I suffered a concussion that lasted almost 2 weeks. My car being totaled not due to the damage from the accident but the diagnosis that the engine "blew". My insurance company had it towed from a body shop to a salvage yard. I have kept the maintenance completely up to date and put close to $4000 into it last year for normal use items. There was an oil leak that ruined my starter - that was repaired. I am now without a vehicle.

Was driving on highway doing 85 and all sudden no warning no lights no nothing my car started loosing power and dropped speed as I'm trying to give it gas it is loosing speed almost caused me to wreck got to side of highway and it just died and the are saying my engine needs replaced had no warning

On 4 l’âne Highway travelling the 70 miles per hour speed limit. My car felt like it ran over something in the road - there was a big jolt and my car shook. It was the engine / transmission slipping. There was NO WARNING. Very SCARY and DANGEROUS especially at 70 miles per hour. Immediately the CHECK Engine light illuminated. This engine / transmission problem is all over the Internet for the 2011 Kia Sorento. Kia has not taken responsibility for the issue with this year’s model. Yes - it has been duplicated e we hen i was driving around town - same jolt. The service center has stated that the engine / transmission is probably failing. Not fair for a consumer who takes good care of their car and my car is in very good condition.

When vehicle slows down to a stop, the engine fails. No check engine light is illuminating. Have taken it to a Kia dealer who does not know what is wrong with it. The car is still available for inspection. The vehicle has done it several times. The Kia dealer said it was unsafe to drive and so they have kept it. Kia is unwilling to look further because the mileage is 4,000 over warranty. There are several recalls for this problem yet, Kia states that they are not for my VIN number therefore I don't qualify. The recalls are for my year, make and model of my vehicle.
This vehicle has a antifreeze in oil tank and the gasket is going. the dealer said this was fine when they sold it to us and it is not fine. i would like this fixed and i paid over 10 thousand for this car. they said they changed the oil and the 2 weeks after i got i had an oil change and it was mixed with antifreeze in the oil pan
Timing chain tensioner is defective and should be recalled. On cold start ups, the engine has a really loud rattling noise for a few seconds and goes away. Has been recalled on other Kia models except for the Kia Sorento why Kia chooses not to include the Kia Sorento should be of concern. Kia should be held responsible for their mistake. I have called the dealership and they do not take responsibility.
The engine will not turn over. It was leaking oil. We refilled the oil. Then it stopped running. We had to tow it to our home. All maintenance and regular scheduled repairs were kept up to date.

The manufacturer was notified of the failure and informed the contact that they could not assist as his significant other had failed to complete a Knock Sensor Detection System (KSDS) software update; however, a notification was never received regarding the software update. The vehicle stalls and I lose all power while driving. This starts with interior dash lights flashing and going off along with radio and all other lights. This also has happened while sitting in running car. I have replaced two alternators and 3 batteries. Please help.

Driving the vehicle on a two lane road at approximately 50 mph (steady cruise state), the vehicle experienced bump or jump in the powertrain (shutter). I immediately lost power to continue at the desired speed (engine missing or lack of power). I slowly tipped into the throttle, but the vehicle was not responding as expected. I put the vehicle in neutral and slightly revved the engine to see if the engine would run normal without load, and it would increase in RPM, but not smoothly. I let the engine return to idle and the engine stalled. I lost my power steering and power brakes and had to muscle the vehicle into a parking lot where I was able to bring the vehicle to a stop and put it into Park. While this event took place the engine or vehicle warning lamp was on the instrument cluster. I got out of the vehicle and looked under hood to see if I could see any obvious signs of an issue and found nothing. I then restarted the vehicle after having the key in the off position. It started and seems to rev up normal. I put the vehicle in drive and cautiously drove the vehicle to my home (about 3 miles). There is no sign of the issue and no lights on the dash. This is not a condition I would want my wife or daughters to encounter, as it produced no warning leading up to the event. The loss of power steering and brakes makes the vehicle difficult to maneuver in a safe manner. It's difficult to trust this vehicle now. The mileage is 92K.
The check engine light came on in our Sorento so we took it to a local mechanic. They changed the oil and said the car was good to go on May 13. Less than a mile from the mechanic, on a busy street the car became unresponsive. Suddenly there was no way to accelerate or slow down and steering was incredibly difficult. Managed to coast to the middle of a busy parking lot but the car shut down completely before I could park in a space and I ended up partially blocking the lot entrance and several parked cars before we could get the car towed back to our mechanic. The mechanic reported to us that other Kias had experienced similar issues and we should check with the dealership for recalls. The car was towed to Oakes Kia Dealership on June 3 and they said the car needed a new engine. Having an engine with only 90,000 miles on it shut down without warning is an obvious and incredibly serious safety risk to drivers and others on the road. In a highway situation, this would have likely caused a serious accident.
My car is going to kill me. It stalls while driving or sitting at lights. Sometimes while I’m driving it surges and bucks and jerks. I’m really concerned with the stalling issues almost got rear ended 2 days ago. I drive on the northway and can’t afford this car stalling while driving I’ll be killed.

The Engine as while driving down road locked up on me causing the vehicle to stop running. From my understanding this type of engine has had issues in past and was under a class action lawsuit that also included Hyundai. Now Kia has responded saying my vehicle vin number isn't part of the theta engine recall. Which baffles me.

After transporting her children to school, while driving back to her residence at approximately 25 - 30 MPH, she noticed that there was smoke coming from the front and the rear of the vehicle. A passing motorist then informed her that the rear bumper of the vehicle was on fire. The Fire Department was contacted and arrived on the scene to extinguish the fire. The State Police also arrived on the scene. A fire report and police report were filed. There were no injuries reported. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic but was not yet diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 150,000.
The engine seized and needed to be replaced. The cost would be $11000 and there was only ONE available in the entire country. We were given $100 for the car. The KIA Corporation knew that this engine was defective and did not recall it or warn us that the engine could seize while driving or catch fire causing catastrophic injuries.
When you check oil, the dip stick shows no oil. I have had the oil changed several times and after about a week the dip stick shows no oil. There is no oil leak coming from under car or from looking at engine under hood. Also, when I start the car, a big plume of smoke comes out of the muffler, but then no smoke. I scheduled an appointment for Kia Dealership about 6 months ago and they said they could not find a problem.

The engine on my 2011 Kia Sorento has failed and the mechanic at the Kia dealership told me it was because of the rod bearings. My car was serviced at the Kia dealership in April 2021 and apparently 2 weeks later an ECU update recall was placed on my vehicle. I did not receive anything notifying me of this update. In November of 2021 my engine started making a loud noise and then failed to turn on. The mechanic at the Kia dealership told me had I had the sensor updated prior to the noise starting it would have alerted us to the rod bearings causing damage but since the update had never happened the rod bearings caused my engine to fail. According to the dealership I should be covered under the recall but Kia headquarters are denying to cover it since I am over my mileage warranty. I have tried for the last month to get a supervisor to return my call at the Kia headquarters and no one will speak to me or call me back. I have been without a vehicle since November 22, 2021 and no resolution since no one will call me back.

Unknown. I have been having oil loss since 2018 and have extensively reported the issue to my local kia dealership where I receive certain. I was instructed to do an oil consumption test that the service department later had no idea what that would have done. Twice the engine has nearly ran out of oil with no warning and I have to regularly monitor the oil level between service. At times it is very low. If I accelerate too quickly it smokes white smoke and smells of burning oil. This is a safety issue if I am merging into traffic and I am unable to accelerate fast enough to not cause an accident. This has been an ongoing issue with this vehicle.
There was a recall to add a engine knocking warning device. When I got the recall in June of 2021, my engine was already knocking. I took the car into Rapid City Kia Dealership for repair on June 24th. I still do not know if it has been approved for repair. The recall stated there was a warranty extension to provide lifetime coverage due to bearing damage. A knock sensor detection system was to be installed caused by worn connecting rod bearings. They ran the diagnostic test for trouble code P1326 and said the noise only got worse. The service department in Rapid City told me the engine needed to be replaced. I still have not heard the decision of Kia and was told it could be the end of July. I need help getting the service my car requires and I need a rental vehicle to drive until my vehicle can be repaired.
Engine has a loud knocking noise also had flames coming from under the hood. No check engine light came on. I was so terrified for my life. A few days before we were to go on vacation we received a campaign letter from Kia about reprogramming the ecm because of the knock sensors. In this letter it stated that after the repairs were done the would warrant the engine for 10 years or 150000 miles from first in service date. My Kia has 144417 miles on it. Because it was so close to our vacation time I didn't have time to take it to the dealer and get the campaign done on it, I was going to do it when I returned from vacation. When we were returning on I-75 outside Chattanooga Tn I heard a loud noise, check eng light started flashing, it jerked me into the right lane which I barely avoided a crash with a vehicle in that lane, smoke was coming up behind me after getting the vehicle to the shoulder of the road some lady pulled up in front of us and said the car was on fire i raised the hood and it was burning at the firewall and underneath it. I instructed my son to get my wife and 3 yr old grandson out of the car, they were in the back seat. I happened to have a case of water in the ack so I started getting out bottles of water out and pouring them on the flames when a dot truck pulled up with a fire extinguisher and finished putting out the flames. There were no warning lights or noises on before this happened. I have been a mechanic all my life and upon inspection I saw that it had slung a rod out the side of the block and that the oil hitting the hot exhaust had set fire to the vehicle. I had to pay 350.00 to get it towed back to my house. I called Kia on Monday and he took all this information down and then he told me they wouldn't do anything about it because I didn't have the campaign done before it happened. I think that Kia ought to put me an engine in this vehicle

KIA ACKNOWLEDGES THEY HAVE BEEN HAVING MANY IDENTICAL ISSUES WITH VARIOUS ENGINES, BUT THIS SPECIFIC ENGINE WASN'T INCLUDED UNDER THE RECALL. TODAY I WAS DRIVING HOME FROM WORK AND EVERYTHING WAS FINE. I STOPPED AT THE GROCERY STORE AND I FINISHED THERE AND I WAS MAKING MY WAY HOME. I GOT ABOUT 3 OR SO MILES AWAY FROM MY HOME AND I NOTICED MY OIL LIGHT WAS ON. SO I PULLED OVER TO CHECK THE OIL AND EVERYTHING WAS FINE. I DIDN'T SEE A NEED TO HAVE IT TOWED THOUGHT IT WAS TELLING ME IT WAS TIME FOR AN OIL CHANGE. I PROCEEDED ONE AND I GOT ABOUT A MILE OR SO FROM MY HOUSE I'M AT A STOP LIGHT AND NOW MY CHECK ENGINE LIGHT IS ON ALONG WITH MY OIL LIGHT. THEN ALL OF A SUDDEN IT JUST DIED RIGHT IN FRONT OF THE TRAFFIC LIGHT. I CALLED A TOW TRUCK AND HAD IT TOWED. THEY HAD LOOKED AT IT AND FOUND THAT THE ENGINE HAD NO OIL PRESSURE AND THE ENGINE WAS SHOT. I NEEDED A NEW ONE. I STILL OWE MORE THAN THE VEHICLE IS WORTH. SOMEONE NEEDS TO LOOK INTO THIS.
MY DAUGHTER IS 21 YEARS OLDS AND SHE PURCHASED 2011 KIA SORENTO FROM PETE'S KAR SMART KIA IN AMARILLO. SHE GOES TO COLLEGE IN LINCOLN NEBRASKA AND HER CAR IS NOT HOLDING OIL. SHE HAS ON 2 OCCASIONS IN A SHORT PERIOD OF TIME HAD HER OIL LIGHT COME ON AND WHEN SHE CHECKED THE OIL IT WAS BONE DRY. THIS IS BETWEEN OIL CHANGES. WE CAN GET NO RESOLUTION FROM KIA AS SHE HAS TAKEN IT TO KIA IN AMARILLO AND IN LINCOLN. I HAVE GOOGLED THIS ISSUE FOR THIS PARTICULAR YEAR AND THEIR HAVE BEEN SEVERAL COMMENTS FROM OTHERS SHARING THE SAME ISSUE WITH 2011 KIA NOT HOLDING OIL. I AM CONCERNED FOR MY DAUGHTER'S SAFETY. WE HAVE TAKEN OUR 2011 KIA SORENTO TO MULITPLE DEALERSHIPS TO GET FIXED. ALL SAY THE ENGINE IS SHOT. THERE IS A SEAL INSIDE THE ENGINE THAT IS MAKING THE VEHICLE NOT WORK. TODAY AS I CHANGED LANES COMING TO A RED LIGHT MY CAR JUST SHUT OFF WITH NO INDICATION. I WENT TO PRESS THE GAS TO GO AND LOOKED DOWN WHEN I WOULDN'T MOVE AND THE BATTERY AND OIL LIGHT WAS ILLUMINATED. I OWN A 2011 SORENTO (NOT A GDI ENGINE) THAT EXPERIENCED A SPUN ROD BEARING AND ENGINE FAILURE (ENGINE LIMP). MY SONS WERE DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY IN OUR KIA SORENTO WHEN WITHOUT ANY WARNING, THE ENGINE FAILED. THANKFULLY, MY SONS WERE ABLE TO SAFELY TRANSITION OFF THE HIGHWAY THROUGH HIGH-SPEED TRAFFIC IN "LIMP MODE". MY SONS WERE QUICKLY ABLE TO FIND ONLINE COMPLAINTS AND DIAGNOSTICS DUPLICATING WHAT THEY HAD JUST EXPERIENCED - SPUN ROD BEARING. I WAS INSTRUCTED BY KIA CORPORATE THAT I SHOULD TOW MY VEHICLE TO A KIA DEALER FOR OFFICIAL DIAGNOSTICS ($140). THE DEALER CONFIRMED THE CAR EXPERIENCE A SPUN ROD BEARING AND ENGINE FAILURE REQUIRING A $6,500 ENGINE REPLACEMENT. IT HAS COME TO MY ATTENTION THAT MY MODEL IS NOT INCLUDED IN THE KIA ENGINE RECALL. I DON'T UNDERSTAND THE RECALL LIMITS WHEN THE ROD BEARING DEFECT CAUSES THE ENGINE FAILURE REGARDLESS OF THE ENGINE TYPE.
VEHICLE WAS IN MOTION TRAVELING DOWN THE HIGHWAY, WHEN ENGINE SHUTS OFF COMPLETELY. NO WARNING LIGHTS WERE ILLUMINATED OR ANYTHING. THE INDICATOR NEVER WENT UP TO HOT, THERE WAS NO STEAM FROM THE RADIATOR--ONLY A THICK CLOUD OF BLACK SMOKE COMING FROM BEHIND THE ENGINE. HAD IT TOWED TO THE REPAIR SHOP TO FIND OUT THAT ENGINE HAD COOKED ITSELF FROM THE INSIDE OUT AND HAD TO BE REPLACED. THE MECHANIC STATED THAT THE OIL AND FLUIDS WERE GOOD EXCEPT ALL THE COOLANT HAD BEEN BLOWN OUT AND THAT IT WAS A DEFECTIVE ENGINE. SPOKE TO SEVERAL DIFFERENT MECHANICS AND WERE TOLD THEY HAD ENCOUNTERED MANY OTHER KIA SORENTO THAT DID THE SAME THING. ENGINE WOULD SUDDENLY JUST STOP. I AM THE SECOND OWNER AND THEREFORE NOT COVERED UNDER THE ORIGINAL WARRANTY. THIS IS UNACCEPTABLE. THERE SHOULD BE A RECALL ON THE ENGINES AND/OR VEHICLES. IT IS GONNA COST ME OVER $5000 TO REPAIR MY VEHICLE!

THE 2.4 IS FAILING, AND THE ONLY RECALL IS ON THE 2.4 TDI, BUT I HIGHLY BELIEVE KIA HAS TO BE AWARE OF THIS. MOTOR LOCKED UP WHILE DRIVING ON THE INTERSTATE AND ALMOST CAUSED ME TO BE REAR ENDED.

HAD IT IN THE DEALERSHIP FOR FAULTY DOOR HANDLE WHICH IS A KNOWN PROBLEM BUT WAS NOT COVERED UNDER WARRANTY. HAD DEALERSHIP RUN DIAGNOSTICS WHICH OF COURSE I HAD TO PAY FOR AND THEY CLAIMED IT WAS READING A CPU ERROR AND THE BOARD SHOULD BE REPLACED $1,400. LOTS OF RECALLS ON THIS VEHICLE, DON'T SEE MYSELF BUYING ANOTHER KIA.

SO THIS MORNING I'M JUST HEADING TO WORK AND MY KIA START A LIMP MODE WHICH IT STOP IN MIDDLE OF A HIGHWAY AND THEIR WHERE KIDS IN THE CAR IT HAS A BUNCH OF LIGHT ON
EVERY TIME I CHANGED THE OIL, I NOTICED IT WAS NOT THE SAME AS USED OIL COMING FROM MY OTHER VEHICLES. ENGINE PROBLEMS STARTED APPROXIMATELY 3 YEARS AGO. I WAS CONSTANTLY CHECKING THE OIL AND NEEDING TO ADD. I TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE KIA DEALER WHERE WE BOUGHT THE CAR AND THEY SAID THE OIL WAS BURNING UP IN THE MOTOR. IT WAS GETTING HOT. I RAN TWO FLUSHES ON THE MOTOR AND THEN CONTINUED MY REGULAR OIL CHANGES. IN FEBRUARY OF 2019 THE MOTOR SEIZED UP AND QUIT WHILE BEING DRIVEN ON CITY STREETS. I DRAINED 4.5 QUARTS OF OIL FROM THE VEHICLE AFTER IT WAS TOWED. I HEARD ABOUT THE RECALL ON VARIOUS YEARS OF KIA/HYUNDAI MOTORS AND THOUGHT THIS MIGH BE THE PROBLEM WITH MY 2011 SORENTO.
2011 KIA, JUST OVER 100,000 MILES. STARTED KNOCKING FROM THE ENGINE, PULLED OVER HAD IT TOWED TO MY MECHANIC. STATED THAT LOWER ENGINE BLOCK BROKE THE ENGINE BLOWN. DEALERSHIP WOULD NOT DO ANYTHING.
A CAM SENSOR MELTED, THERE WERE PIECES OF PLASTIC ON THE SPARK PLUGS, AND ALL MECHANICS WE TALKED TO HAVE NEVER SEEN ANYTHING LIKE THIS. THEY INITIALLY THOUGHT THAT IT WAS THE EXHAUST VVT SOLENOIDS, BUT AS THEY INSPECTED FURTHER THEY REALIZED SOMETHING ELSE WAS MAJORLY WRONG. WE WERE ON A ROAD TRIP WHEN THIS HAPPENED AND HAVE BEEN STRANDED FOR 4 DAYS BECAUSE THEY HAVEN'T BEEN ABLE TO FIX THE PROBLEM. THE ONLY SOLUTION THEY FOUND IS TO REPLACE THE ENGINE. THE SYMPTOMS SEEM TO BE CONSISTENT WITH THE NHTSA CAMPAIGNS #11V258000 AND #17V224000 AFTER DISCUSSING WITH THE MECHANICS WE'VE WORKED WITH. SEE ATTACHED IMAGE OF MELTED CAM SENSOR.

HE WENT INTO THE GARAGE TO TURN ON SPRINKLER SYSTEM. NOTHING OUT OF THE ORDINARY WAS NOTICED. AT APPROXIMATELY 7:45 AM HE STARTED TAKING A SHOWER. A FEW MINUTES LATER HE HEARD A LOUD POP. THEN A FEW MINUTES LATER ANOTHER LOUD POP. THEN A FEW SECONDS LATER THE LIGHTS WENT OUT. THEN HE HEARD A LOUD BANGING AT THE FRONT DOOR. A MAN WAS YELLING THAT THE GARAGE WAS ON FIRE. MY SON AND ANOTHER YOUNG MAN WHO WAS RENTING ONE OF THE BEDROOMS IN THE HOUSE ESCAPED WITHOUT INJURY. THE FIRE DEPARTMENT RESPONDED AND EXTINGUISHED THE FIRE BUT THE CAR THE ATTACHED GARAGE WERE COMPLETELY DESTROYED. THE REST OF HOUSE SUFFERED EXTENSIVE SMOKE AND WATER DAMAGE. SEE ATTACHED PICTURE TAKEN AT 7:59 AM. GARAGE IS TOTALLY ENGULFED IN FLAMES. FIRE INVESTIGATORS DETERMINED THAT THE FIRE APPEARED TO BE CENTER AT THE FRONT OF THE 2011 KIA SORENTO. THE CAR WAS TOTALLY DESTROYED. INVESTIGATORS HIRED BY THE HOME INSURANCE COMPANY WERE NOT ABLE TO DETERMINE WHAT COMPONENT IN THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT FAILED AND CAUSED THE FIRE. NOT ENOUGH LEFT TO BE CERTAIN. KIA MOTORS USA HAS STONEWALLED US ALL THE WAY. THEY SENT PEOPLE TWICE TO MAKE SURE THERE WAS NOT SOMETHING ELSE IN THE GARAGE TO BLAME THE FIRE ON AND TO MAKE SURE THAT THE FIRE INVESTIGATORS MADE A DEFINITIVE DETERMINATION OF OF WHAT COMPONENT FAILED OR OTHERWISE HAD TO SAY IT WAS UNDETERMINED. THEY ALSO HIRED A LOCAL LAW FIRM TO OBSERVE ALL THE INVESTIGATION EFFORTS. INTIMIDATION AND STONEWALLING IS WHAT KIA HAS PROVIDED TO US. MY CONCERN IS THAT SOMEONE IS GOING TO HAVE TO DIE BEFORE KIA AND HYUNDAI ADMIT THEY HAVE DEFECT IN THEIR ENGINE MANUFACTURING PROCESS AND GET IT FIXED.

MY KIA HAS BEEN IN AND OUT OF THE DEALERSHIP REPAIR FACILITY SINCE JULY 1ST 28. I HAVE HAD TO HAVE IT TOWED THERE TWICE. MY ORIGINAL ID COMPLAINT # WITH NHTSA IS NHTSA ID NUMBER: 11142672. I STILL HAVE AN OPEN COMPLAINT WITH KIA THAT HAS BEEN ONGOING. DUE TO MELTED PARTS CONNECTED TO THE ENGINE THAT HAD TO BE REPLACED A COUPLE WEEKS PRIOR TO THE VEHICLE GOING IN THIS TIME. NOW I AM BEING TOLD THE ENGINE MATING SURFACE IS AN ISSUE. THE CYLINDER HEAD IS WARPED & THE BLOCK IS WARPED. HOW? I HAVE NOT DRIVEN THIS CAR HOT THAT I AM AWARE OF! THIS IS A 2011 KIA THAT IS OUTSIDE OF THE RECALL FOR ENGINE ISSUES BUT IS STILL BEING PUSHED FOR RECALL BY NHTSA...WHAT DO I DO NOW IF KIA WON'T REPLACE THE MOTOR? THERE ARE ONLY 77K MILES ON THIS VEHICLE. I BOUGHT IT WITH 900 MILES ON IT. I AM STILL WAITING TO HEAR FROM KIA. THIS IS GETTING RIDICULOUS! MY ENGINE GAVE OUT AND MY CAR WILL NOT START. I'VE HAD A MECHANIC LOOK AT IT AND THEY TOLD ME I NEED TO REPLACE THE TIMING BELT BUT THE COMPLETE ENGINE IS NO LONGER WORKING.THE CAR DOES NOT START AND WHEN IT DID IT WOULD STILL JOLT FROM TIME TO TIME. MY ENGINE WENT OUT ON MY 2011 KIA SORENTO ON JUNE 8, 2018. I WAS GETTING READY TO LEAVE FOR WORK. I WAS BACKING OUT OF MY DRIVEWAY. IT SOUNDED VERY ROUGH AND STARTED SHAKING REALLY BAD WHEN I PUT IT IN REVERSE. I DIDN'T KNOW WHAT WAS GOING ON. THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. I PULLED BACK UP INTO THE DRIVE WAY AND PUT IT IN PARK. IT WAS STILL SHAKING VERY BAD AND SOUNDING VERY ROUGH. I TURNED IT OFF AND CALL A MECHANIC OVER. HE PERFORM A CODE DIAGNOSTIC. THERE WERE ABOUT 10 OR 11 ENGINE CODES THAT POPPED UP ON THE SCREEN. I HAD IT TOWED TO HIS SHOP ON JUNE 13, 2018 TO DO A MORE IN-DEPTH DIAGNOSTIC. IT WAS FOUND THAT THE ENGINE IS NON-REPAIRABLE. FROM THERE, HE HAD IT TOWED TO ADVANCED AUTOMOTIVE DIAGNOSTICS FOR A SECOND OPINION. IT WAS DETERMINED THERE ALSO THAT THE ENGINE IS NON-REPAIRABLE. THERE WAS NO WARNING AND I GOT MY SERVICING IN REASONABLE TIME-SPANS. I AM AT A LOST. I AM STILL PAYING ON A VEHICLE AND CARRYING INSURANCE ON A VEHICLE THAT I CANNOT DRIVE RIGHT NOW. I AM REPORTING THIS BECAUSE I SAW WHERE THE 2012 AND A FEW OTHER YEAR SORENTO'S HAD A ENGINE RECALL. I BELIEVE THAT THE 2011 KIA SORENTO SHOULD HAVE BEEN INCLUSIVE IN THAT RECALL.

WHEN HEAD WAS REMOVED CRACKS WERE FOUND ON COILS 3 & 4 IN HOUSINGS AND NOTICED METAL SHAVINGS IN MOTOR. YESTERDAY I DROPPED AT DEALER WHO NOW SAYS VEHICLE MAY HAVE A BLOWN HEAD GASKET OR WORSE. MADE KIA AWARE WITH 1ST ISSUE AND THEY COVERED 1/2 OF REPAIR COST. STILL HAVE AN OPEN CASE # WITH THEM AND REPORTED THE NEW ISSUE UNDER THE SAME CASE NUMBER. WHILE DRIVING VEHICLE THE OIL LIGHT INDICATOR ILLUMINATED ON DASHBOARD. WHEN STARTED BOTH OIL AND ENGINE LIGHTS WERE ILLUMINATED AND VEHICLE ENGINE WAS MAKING LOUD KNOCKING AND GRINDING NOISES FOR THE APPROXIMATE MILE AND A HALF DRIVE TO REPAIR STATION. AFTER INSPECTING THE VEHICLE, MECHANIC DETERMINED THAT ENGINE WOULD NEED REPLACED.

I WAS ON THE FREEWAY DRIVING 75MPH. I HAD BEEN DRIVING FOR APPROX 65 MILES WHEN MY VEHICLE LOST ALL ENGINE POWER WITH NO WARNING WHILE DRIVING UP A HILL. I WAS ABLE TO PULL THE VEHICLE TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. I HAD TO TOW THE VEHICLE 65 MILES BACK HOME AND TO THE MECHANIC. THE MECHANIC HAS STATED THE VEHICLE DIED WHILE DRIVING DUE TO THE ENGINE LOCKING UP. THIS VEHICLE HAS HAD ALL ROUTINE MAINTENANCE COMPLETED ON TIME AND IN FACT JUST HAD AN OIL CHANGE AND INSPECTION BEFORE TAKING THIS TRIP. THERE HAVE BEEN NO LOUD NOISES OR NOISES COMING FROM THE VEHICLE AT ALL NOR WERE THERE ANY NOISES PRIOR TO THIS ISSUE OCCURRING.
WHILE DRIVING ABOUT 40MPH ON A HIGHWAY WITH A SPEED LIMIT OF 55 MPH, THE ENGINE SIZED WITHOUT ANY WARNING. THE CAR WOULD NOT ACCELERATE AND WENT ABOUT 1 MILE AND STARTED MAKING A CLUNKING SOUND. CAR WAS PULLED OVER IMMEDIATELY AND THE ALL THE WARNING LIGHTS CAME ON AND THE CAR WAS INOPERABLE. COOPER KIA (5056 COMMERCIAL DR., YORKVILLE NY) WAS CONTACTED BUT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED. REFERENCED NHTSA CAMPAIGN # 17V224000 (ENGINE AND COOLING) AS A POSSIBLE SOLUTION. ADVISED THAT THIS ENGINE WAS NOT IN A RECALL. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE WAS ABOUT 115,000 MILES.
SUDDEN FAILURE OF THE CRANK SHAFT, ROD, AND ROD BEARING. FAILURE RESULTED IN A ROD BEARING BLOWING A HOLE THROUGH THE MOTOR BLOCK AND OIL PAIN RESULTING IN OIL DRAINAGE AND SUBSEQUENT CATASTROPHIC FAILURE OF THE ENTIRE MOTOR. IN THE DAYS LEADING UP TO THIS EVENT I DIDN'T NOTICE ANY NOISES OR CHANGE IN VEHICLE BEHAVIOR. ALL FUNCTIONED AS NORMAL. I MERGED ONTO A HIGHWAY AND REACHED A SPEED OF APPROX 65 MPH FOR APPROX 2 MILES ALL WAS NORMAL AND FINE. I THEN HEARD A LOUD BANG AND NOTICED VEHICLE LOSING POWER. I PULLED VEHICLE OFF THE ROAD TO A SAFE AREA AND HAD THE VEHICLE TOWED APPROX 1 MILE TO A LOCAL SERVICE STATION. THE INFORMATION I RELATED IN THE BEGINNING IS THE OFFICIAL DIAGNOSIS FROM THE MECHANIC. I HAVE AN AFTER MARKET WARRANTY UNFORTUNATELY DUE TO THE HIGH COST OF REPAIRS THEY ARE FIGHTING PAYING FOR NEEDED REPAIRS, WHICH IS CAUSING ME TO INCUR A VERY LARGE FINANCIAL LOSS. MY VEHICLE WAS VERY WELL KEPT, AND ONLY HAD A LITTLE OVER 108,000 ORIGINAL MILES. ALL SERVICE RECORDS ARE KEPT. RELIGIOUSLY KEPT UP WITH TYPICAL PM SUCH AS TIRES, OIL CHANGE, BRAKES, ROTORS, ECT. ALL NON-TYPICAL PM REPAIRS WERE ALWAYS DONE AT A KIA DEALERSHIP BY A CERTIFIED KIA TECHNICIAN, AND ALWAYS REQUESTED TO CHECK VIN FOR ANY RECALLS AND WHEN FOUND HAD RECALL REPAIRS MADE. AS I STATED THERE WAS NOTHING IN THE BEHAVIOR OF THE VEHICLE IN THE YEARS, MONTHS, WEEKS, OR DAYS LEADING UP TO THIS INCIDENT THAT WOULD INDICATE A CATASTROPHIC FAILURE OF THIS NATURE WAS IMPENDING.
CAR STALLS IN TRAFFIC WITHOUT WARNING. RPMS DIMINISH AND POWER IS LOST. WE HAVE BEEN ABLE TO PULL TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD, TURN OFF ENGINE, WAIT FOR A SHORT TIME, AND RESTART IT. THERE ARE TWO LIGHTS THAT COME ON IN THE PANEL. ONE IS A CHECK ENGINE LIGHT, THE OTHER IS LIT UP NEXT TO THE 4WD INDICATOR. IN REQUESTING SERVICE FROM ONE LOCAL DEALERSHIP, WE WERE TOLD THEY COULDN'T MAKE THE CAR ACT IN THIS WAY. FINALLY, AFTER SEVERAL RETURNS TO THE DEALER, WE WERE TOLD THE COMPUTER (PCM) WAS BAD AND IT WOULD BE $1500 TO REPLACE IT THEY TOLD US SOME DAY THE ENGINE WOULD STOP IN THIS MANNER AND WE WOULD NOT BE ABLE TO RESTART IT. AFTER CALLING KIA CORPORATE ABOUT RECALLS, WE WERE TOLD THE RECALL FOR THIS PROBLEM DID NOT INCLUDE OUR MANUFACTURING DATE. THIS DEFECT RECALL BEGAN WITH CARS MANUFACTURED STARTING JULY, 2010, OURS WAS MANUFACTURED IN MAY, 2010. IT WAS SUGGESTED WE REQUEST A SECOND OPINION FROM THE OTHER DEALERSHIP IN TOWN. AND WERE TOLD THAT ANY PROBLEM WOULD SHOW UP WITH A CODE ON THE COMPUTER, THEY DID DIAGNOSTICS AND REPORTED THERE WAS NO CODE ON THE COMPUTER THAT WOULD INDICATE THIS PROBLEM. WE PAY CLOSE ATTENTION TO THE RPMS AND DO NOT TRUST THIS CAR TO TAKE IT OUT OF TOWN. THIS SITUATION HAS OCCURRED AT LEAST 8-10 TIMES, FORTUNATELY NOT AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS.
CAR HAS BEEN BURNING OIL FOR AWHILE, SO WE ARE CONSTANTLY TOPPING IT OFF. WE ARE DILIGENT ABOUT ROUTINE OIL CHANGES. THERE HAS ALSO BEEN A CLICKING ON HARD ACCELERATION THAT HAS NO KNOWN CAUSE, EVEN AFTER BEING INVESTIGATED ON 2 OCCASIONS. YESTERDAY, WHILE ON THE HIGHWAY, THE CAR LOST POWER. GOT TO AN EXIT AND HAD CAR TOWED TO SHOP. GOT THE CALL TODAY THAT THERE IS A HOLE IN ONE OF THE PISTONS AND ENTIRE ENGINE NEEDS TO BE REPLACED. CONTACTED KIA AND THIS YEAR IS NOT INCLUDED IN THE MULTIPLE ENGINE RECALL LIST. CAR HAS APPROXIMATELY 126,000 MILES WITH A REPAIR ESTIMATE OF $7000.

I ATTEMPTED TO RESTART AND CAR SEEMED TO HAVE RESTARTED JUST FINE. I TURNED AROUND AND DECIDED TO HEAD BACK HOME INSTEAD OF DRIVE THE HIGHWAY TO WORK. JANUARY 26, 2018 I WAS STOPPED AT A STOP SIGN AND SUDDENLY MY VEHICLE MADE A THUD SOUND, AND IT FELT LIKE A DOWNWARD THRUST AS THE VEHICLE COMPLETELY SHUT DOWN. ESPECIALLY AFTER I RESEARCHED SORENTO ENGINE FAILURES AND IT IS HUGE FOR SO MANY MODELS. THE 2011 WAS ABOUT THE ONLY ONE NOT ON THE RECALLS.. MY MODEL WAS THE FIRST MADE IN THE US AT THE GEORGIA PLANT. MY PRODUCTION DATE IS 12/19/09. WE BOUGHT OUR 2011 IN FEBRUARY 2010. I HAD IT TOWED TO GORRING AUTOMOTIVE AT 1030PM. ON MARCH 1, 2017, MR. GORRING CALLED AND TOLD ME I WOULD NEED A NEW ENGINE. I CONTACTED CENTURY 3 KIA AND SPOKE TO THE SERVICE MANAGER DAN. HE STATED THAT I NEEDED TO BRING IT BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP TO HAVE IT LOOKED AT. I ALSO CONTACTED KIA CONSUMER NUMBER AND SPOKE TO ERIC. ERIC TOLD ME THE SAME INFORMATION AND I STATED I DID NOT WANT TO PAY FOR THE DIAGNOSIS AGAIN. I HAD MY SORENTO TOWED TO CENTURY 3 KIA ON MARCH 1, 2017. DAN STATED THAT HE WAS SURPRISED THAT MY VIN WAS NOT ON THE EXTENDED WARRANTY LIST. ON MARCH 3, 2017, DAN FROM CENTURY 3 KIA CALLED ME AND SAID THAT I DID NEED A NEW ENGINE. CHARLES FROM KIA'S CONSUMER NUMBER AND DAN FROM CENTURY 3 KIA BOTH STATED THAT IF I WAS THE ORIGINAL OWNER THEY WOULD REPLACE THE ENGINE AT NO COST TO ME BUT SINCE I AM THE SECOND OWNER OF THE SORENTO, IT WOULD BE MY RESPONSIBILITY. I INQUIRED AT THE COST OF LABOR AND WAS TOLD 15 HOURS AT $108 AN HOUR. I HAVE LOOKED AROUND AND FOUND THAT MOST ENGINES WITH ROUGHLY THE SAME MILEAGE AS MINE ARE AROUND $2,500. THE TOTAL COST WILL ROUGHLY BE BETWEEN $4,500 AND $6,500 TOTAL WITH ALL THE FLUIDS AND OTHER PARTS NEEDED TO RETURN MY SORENTO TO A FUNCTIONAL STATE. I PURCHASED THE SORENTO WITH 53,857 MILES ON IT AND HAD IT FOR ONE YEAR. I PUT 12,000 MILE ON IT ROUGHLY. MY SORENTO HAD ROUGHLY 65,500 MILES ON IT WHEN THIS HAPPENED. I HAVE DONE SOME RESEARCH AND FOUND THIS TO BE A COMMON PROBLEM WITH THE 2.4L ENGINES. IF THIS IS TRUE, WHY HAS KIA NOT DONE ANYTHING ABOUT IT.

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 KIA SORENTO. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 55 MPH, THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY STALLED. AFTER PULLING OFF THE ROAD AND RESTARTING THE ENGINE, THE VEHICLE OPERATED AS NORMAL. THE CONTACT INDICATED THAT THE FAILURE HAD OCCURRED ON MULTIPLE OCCASIONS AND THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WOULD ILLUMINATE WHEN THE FAILURE OCCURRED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC, WHO WAS UNABLE THE DIAGNOSE THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 46,000.
MY CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON TWICE WHEN MY GAS WAS LOW AND WHEN I FILLED UP IT WENT OFF. THAT HAPPENED FOR TWO WEEKS. ON 7/25/14 CEL LIGHT FLASHING & RUNNING ROUGH AGAIN, CALLED DEALERSHIP AND TOOK IN 8/9/14, AGAIN THEY SAID THEY COULD NOT DIAGNOSE AND NO CODES SHOWING UP OR IN HISTORY STATED THEY HAVE A CALL INTO KIA MOTORS AND OPENED A TECH LINE CASE HAVE NEVER HEARD ANYTHING BACK FROM THEM. 9/18/14 CEL LIGHT FLASHING AND RUNNING ROUGH, I CONTACTED DEALERSHIP THAT I ALWAYS HAVE USED SINCE PURCHASE OF VEHICLE BUT ANOTHER DEALERSHIP WAS CLOSE TO MY WORKPLACE. I REFUSED TO SHUT THE VEHICLE OFF BECAUSE WHEN YOU DO, IT RESETS EVERYTHING AND IT CANNOT BE DIAGNOSED. I TOOK VEHICLE TO DEALERSHIP, LEFT IT RUNNING TILL THEY COULD PUT THE OBD SCANNER ON IT TO CODE IT. I RECEIVED CALL FROM MANAGER, HE STATED THAT THEY WERE ABLE TO GET CODES FROM IT AND THAT 2 COILS WERE MISFIRING. THEY SHUT THE VEHICLE OFF, IT WOULD NOT START. THEY LEFT IT SIT AN HOUR AND IT STARTED UP AND THEY TRIED TO CODE IT AGAIN AND NOTHING SHOWED IN THE CODES AT ALL, NOT EVEN CODE HISTORY. THEY REPLACED TWO COILS, THEN ON 9/25/14 THE CEL LIGHT STARTED FLASHING AGAIN AND RUNNING ROUGH. I IMMEDIATELY CONTACTED THE DEALERSHIP THAT JUST CHANGED THE COILS, HE DIDN'T HAVE MUCH TO SAY. ASKED ME WHERE I PURCHASE MY GAS FROM AND THAT HE COULDN'T DO ANYTHING TODAY BECAUSE THEY CLOSE AT 4:30 AND IT WAS AFTER 4:00 THEN. WHEN I SHUT THE CAR OFF, IT WOULD NOT START. LEFT FOR WORK THIS MORNING AND YOU WOULD NEVER KNOW ANYTHING WAS WRONG, RAN FINE. AFTER A SMALL NUMBER OF DAYS OF A MINOR RATTLING FROM THE ENGINE, AS I PULLED AWAY AT AN INTERSECTION THERE WAS A BANG FROM THE ENGINE, THE ENGINE LOST ALL POWER AND THERE WAS A TREMENDOUS AMOUNT OF BANGING FROM THE ENGINE. MANAGED TO CRAWL TO A NEARBY GAS STATION. THE CAR STALLED ON THE FORECOURT. MANAGED TO RESTART IT, ONLY TO HEAR THE TERRIBLE BANGING AGAIN AND SEE THAT THE ENGINE STILL HAD NO POWER. HAD IT TOWED TO THE LOCAL KIA DEALER THE FOLLOWING MORNING. AT THE TIME OF WRITING THIS, KIA ARE REFUSING TO FIX THE CAR UNDER WARRANTY, DESPITE IT STILL BEING COVERED AND THERE ONLY BEING 44,000 MILES ON IT. THE BLUETOOTH DOES NOT WORK PROPERLY AND AM ONLY ABLE TO MAKE A CALL 30% OF THE TIME. BACKUP CAMERAS AND SENSORS ARE INTERMITTENT. WINDOW WILL NOT WORK. WHILE DRIVING DOWN THE EXPRESSWAY, WITHOUT WARNING, THERE WAS A CATASTROPHIC ENGINE FAILURE CAUSING ONE OR TWO OF THE CONNECTING RODS TO BLOW THROUGH THE OIL PAN AND START A FIRE FROM THE FRONT OF THE VEHICLE TO THE BACK UNDERNEATH THE CARRIAGE. THE FLAMES CAME UP THE SIDES AND BACK OF THE CAR. NEEDLESS TO SAY IT WAS EXTREMELY FRIGHTENING. LOOKING AT THE DAMAGE OF THE CAR I NEVER EXPECTED THEM TO ATTEMPT TO REPAIR THIS CAR YET THEY DID. THE CAR WAS DOWN FOR ALMOST TWO MONTHS, THE SECOND ENGINE AND POWER STEERING FAILED BEFORE WE EVEN DROVE THE REPAIRED CAR OFF THE LOT. KIA STILL DID NOT WANT TO DO ANYTHING BUT REPAIR THE CAR AGAIN. THEY SAID, "THESE THINGS HAPPEN THATS WHY YOU HAVE A WARRANTY". THESE THINGS HAVE NEVER HAPPENED TO ME OR ANYONE I KNOW IN THE 30 YEARS I HAVE BEEN DRIVING. YOU BUY A NEW CAR TO AVOID SUCH PROBLEMS. THE CAR HAS NOW BEEN RETURNED TO ME AND IT IS STILL NOT RIGHT. I JUST TOOK IT IN FOR THEM TO BLOW OUT THE VENTS AND FILTERS. THE FIRST TWO TIMES THEY CLAIMED TO HAVE REPAIRED THE VEHICLE AND TURNED IT BACK OVER TO US WITHOUT ANY COMMENT. THE THIRD TIME, AFTER I COMPLAINED ABOUT IT NOT BEING FIXED THE TWO TIMES BEFORE, THEY FINALLY ADMITTED THERE WAS NOTHING THEY COULD DO. EVER SINCE BOUGHT NEW (SORENTO SX 6CYL.) IN APRIL 2011, THERE HAS BEEN A INTERMITTANT ISSUE WITH NO ENGINE RESPONSE FROM STOP FOR 2-3 SECONDS. RPM'S STAY AT IDLE SPEED, THEN IT SUDDENLY TAKES HOLD AND RUNS FINE. ONLY HAPPENS FROM STOP, AND ONLY ABOUT ONCE OR TWICE EVERY 2-3 DAYS. DEALER CANNOT DUPLICATE PROBLEM, NO CODES. DANGEROUS SITUATION WHEN PULLING OUT INTO TRAFFIC FROM A STOP. I CANNOT DUPLICATE IT UNDER ANY DRIVING CIRCUMSTANCES. ALSO, IF I APPLY BRAKE DURING THIS "HESITATION" THERE IS NO ENGINE ACCELERATION WHILE I HOLD THE BRAKE. I FEEL SURE IT IS IN THE "FLY BY WIRE" SYSTEM, BUT DEALER HAS NO CLUE. WE PURCHASED/LEASED A NEW 2011 SORENTO V6 AND ALMOST IMMEDIATELY STARTED EXPERIENCING THE OCCASIONAL HESITATION PROBLEM WHEN PULLING INTO TRAFFIC FROM A STOP. ON A COUPLE OCCASIONS IT PUT US IN A VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION AS WE WERE CROSSING 2 LANES OF TRAFFIC. TOOK THE VEHICLE TO COURTESY KIA IN BRANDON FL. 4 TIMES, THEY COULD NOT DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM. FINALLY THEY GOT US A 2012 NEAR IDENTICAL SORENTO V6, AND ON THE 3RD DAY HAD THE SAME EXPERIENCE W/50 MILES ON THE VEHICLE. WE NOW HAVE 500+ ON IT AND HAVE HAD A TOTAL OF 7 SIMILAR SITUATIONS. THE DEALERSHIP SAYS I'M THE ONLY ONE EXPERIENCING THIS AND THAT THEY AREN'T AWARE OF THE PROBLEM, ALTHOUGH I TALKED W/A CUSTOMER OF THEIRS W/A 2011 SORENTO AND HE SAID HE AND HIS WIFE HAVE THE SAME ISSUES W/THEIRS. WE ARE VERY DISAPPOINTED WITH THIS SITUATION, BUT OTHER THAN THAT WE LIKE THE VEHICLE & GET LOTS OF COMPLIMENTS ON IT, BUT I AM ALSO LETTING OTHERS KNOW OF OUR EXPERIENCES. ITS OUR FIRST VENTURE FROM GM, AND IT WILL LIKELY BE OUR LAST. ADDITIONALLY, THE 2011 WAS GETTING THE ADVERTISED FUEL MILEAGE, THE 2012 HAS NOT GOTTEN ANY BETTER THAN 17.5 ON THE HIGHWAY OR IN TOWN. WHEN WE TURNED IN THE 2011 THEY CHARGED ME $2,500 (MONEY THAT WE WERE TO GET BACK FROM KIA IN THE DEAL) WHICH I THOUGHT WAS REALLY OUT OF LINE. I ADMIT WE PUT 5,000 MILES ON IT BUT $.50 PER MILE IS A BIT MUCH, PLUS I HAD ADDED HEAT & LUMBAR IN THE SEATS AND TINTED WINDOWS. THIS IS TRULY A SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE AND VERY DISAPPOINTING. GOING DOWNHILL IN OUR NEWLY PURCHASED 2011 KIA SORENTO EX V6, REACHING A 4 WAY STOP, OUR ENGINE QUIT. VEHICLE HAD ONLY 175 MILES ON IT AS IT IS BRAND NEW. CAR RESTARTED WITHOUT FURTHER INCIDENT. TOOK IT TO DEALER, THEY FOUND NO PROBLEM OR FAULTS REGISTERED ON THE ONBOARD COMPUTER. I HAVE READ OF SIMILAR OCCURRENCES WITH OTHER 2011 KIA SORENTO EX V6. I WILL FILE ANOTHER REPORT IF IT HAPPENS AGAIN. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNED A 2011 KIA SORENTO. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 40 MPH, THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT BEGAN ILLUMINATING. THE CONTACT ALSO BEGAN TO SEE SPARKS COMING FROM THE ENGINE. THE VEHICLE WAS PULLED OVER AND A FIRE BEGAN UNDER THE ENGINE. THE FIRE DEPARTMENT APPEARED TO THE SCENE TO EXTINGUISH THE FIRE. A POLICE REPORT WAS ALSO FILED BUT NO INJURIES WERE REPORTED. THE VEHICLE WAS DESTROYED AND TOWED TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER WHERE THEY WERE IN THE PROCESS OF DIAGNOSING THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 800.
THIS IS NOT A COMPLAINT BUT A REPORT OF DEFECTIVE KIA SORENTO. WE PURCHASED AN LX V6 SORENTO ON APRIL 3RD. CAR WAS SOLD AS NEW WITH 250 MILES ON IT (WE WERE TOLD THAT MILEAGE WAS RESULT OF TEST DRIVING WHICH TURNED OUT TO BE UNTRUE). WITHIN 17 HOURS AND WITHIN 25 MILES AND ONLY THE 2ND TIME BEHIND THE WHEEL OF THE CAR, WE EXPERIENCED SEVERE TRANSMISSION PROBLEMS. AFTER APPROXIMATELY 30 MINUTES TOTAL OF DRIVING (ACTUALLY FIVE MINUTES AFTER HAVING PARKED TO PICK UP KIDS) AND AFTER 1 RED LIGHT, THE CAR STALLED AND THEN LURCHED FORWARD VIOLENTLY, REPEATEDLY. IMMEDIATELY DROVE THE CAR HOME AND WHEN I ATTEMPTED TO BACK UP INTO THE GARAGE FOUND THAT THE CAR WOULD NOT GO INTO REVERSE. IMMEDIATELY CONTACTED DEALER AND SALESPERSON CAME TO HOME AND OBSERVED PROBLEM, THEREAFTER TAKING CAR TO SERVICE. ACCORDING TO DEALERSHIP, SERVICE CLAIMED THAT PROBLEM WAS CAUSED BY COMPUTER AND WAS FIXED. WE RETURNED THE CAR WITHIN 17 HOURS OF PURCHASE AND REFUSED TO TAKE IT BACK. AFTER MUCH WRANGLING (AND DENIAL BY THE DEALERSHIP THAT IT HAD EVER HAD THIS TYPE OF PROBLEM), CAR WAS REPLACED WITH ANOTHER NEW CAR. WE HAVE NOT OBSERVED PROBLEM IN NEW CAR BUT FROM COMPLAINTS, I AM GRAVELY CONCERNED. PROBLEM IS AN IMMEDIATE AND SERIOUS THREAT TO SAFETY HAZARD. IT IS MY HOPE THAT NHTSA WILL ACT IMMEDIATELY. I HAD TWO CHILDREN IN CAR AT TIME AND ON MY WAY TO PICK UP 4 MORE. HAD THE INCIDENT OCCURRED ON A FREEWAY OR CONDITIONS WHERE THERE WERE MANY ON THE ROAD, I BELIEVE THE CONSEQUENCES WOULD HAVE BEEN DIRE. *TR
I HAVE HAD THE CAR FOR ABOUT 4 MONTHS. DURING THIS TIME IT HAS 5 TIMES COMPLETELY SHUT OFF IN THE MIDDLE OF AN INTERSECTION AND ONCE WHILE I WAS CHANGING LANES IN STOP AND GO TRAFFIC. I HAVE TAKEN IT BACK TO THE DEALER TWICE AND THEY HAVE BEEN UNABLE TO DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM. *TR

WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 65 MPH, THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE AIR CONDITIONER SHUT OFF WITHOUT WARNING, CAUSING THE VEHICLE TO MAKE A GRINDING NOISE, AND THE CHECK ENGINE WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED. THE CONTACT ALSO NOTICED SMOKE COMING FROM UNDER THE HOOD OF THE VEHICLE. THE DEALER WAS NOTIFIED WHO AND ADVISED THE CONTACT THAT THE ENGINE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE CONTACT DID NOT INFORM THE MANUFACTURER. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE APPROXIMATELY 2000.
7/21/10 PURCHASED KIA SORRENTO EX FWD FROM MORITZ 110 NE LOOP 820 HURST, TX 7/22 NOTICED ENGINE HESITATED SEVERAL TIMES WHILE DRIVING SUFFICIENT THAT CARS PULLED AROUND ME. CONTACTED JERRY SIMPSON AND JIM CARTWRIGHT SERVICE MANAGER 7/26 TOOK SORRENTO BACK AND TO MORITZ AND RODE WITH JIM CARTWRIGHT THROUGH RESIDENTIAL NEIGHBORHOODS. CAR EXHIBITED NO HESITATION 8/2 HAVE DRIVEN SORRENTO TO OKLAHOMA TWICE AND AROUND RESIDENTIAL AREAS IN THE METROPLEX AND NOTICED A SLIGHT HESITATION. 11/8 WHILE IN 8:OOAM BUMPER TO BUMPER TRAFFIC EAST BOUND ON HWY 820 IN FORT WORTH,TX AT A SLOW 15MPH (EST) ENGINE CHUGGED DOWN AND THEN CAUGHT AND THEN DIED COMPLETELY AND CAR HAD TO BE PUSHED OUT OF WAY. WAS ABLE TO RESTART AND MAKE IT TO DOCTORS APPOINTMENT THEN TOOK THE SORRENTO BACK TO MORITZ KIA WHERE WE BOUGHT IT AND TOLD THEM I WANTED IT FIXED 11/11 NOT HAVING HEARD FROM MORITZ KIA I CALLED THEM AND ASKED THAT THEY DOUCUMENT WHAT THE FOUND AND WE WERE GOING TO PICK UP THE SORRENTO. THE "TIRE PRESSURE" WARNING INDICATOR BEGAN TO FLASH FOR FORTY- FIVE TO FIFTY SECONDS. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER AND THEY WERE UNABLE TO DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM. THE CLANKING NOISE CONTINUED TO OCCUR INTERMITTENTLY. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 65.
TOOK DELIVERY OF A 2011, KIA SORENTO LX, WITH 2.4L ENGINE, ON 4/22/10. DURING THE NEXT 3.5 MONTHS AND 4,800 MILES, THIS VEHICLE HAS EXPERIENCED THE FOLLOWING SAFETY ISSUE SEVEN TIMES, TWO OF WHICH A COLLISION WAS NARROWLY AVOIDED. WHEN PRESSING ON THE ACCELERATOR, FROM IT'S DEFAULT POSITION, THE ENGINE REMAINS AT IDLE SPEED FOR APPROXIMATELY 1.5 SECONDS BEFORE ACCELERATING RAPIDLY, PROPORTIONATE TO THE THEN THROTTLE POSITION. DURING THIS LAG, THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL WAS HELD IN THE POSITION REPRESENTING THE APPROPRIATE AMOUNT OF ACCELERATION UNDER NORMAL DRIVING CONDITIONS. THIS HESITATION OCCURS UNEXPECTEDLY, SEVERELY IMPACTING NORMAL JUDGMENT AND DRIVING REACTIONS. THIS HAS OCCURRED ON FLAT PAVEMENT, SLIGHT INCLINE OR DECLINE, FROM A STOP, PULLING OUT INTO TRAFFIC, OR WHILE TRAVELING 35 TO 40 MPH ATTEMPTING TO MERGE INTO TRAFFIC. IT WENT IN FOR SERVICE AT A KIA DEALERSHIP THE DAY AFTER THIS PROBLEM OCCURRED TWICE IN ONE TRIP, ALMOST RESULTING IN AN ACCIDENT. THE VEHICLE HAS CURRENTLY BEEN IN THE SHOP FOR ONE WEEK. AFTER ONE DAY, THE DEALER COULD NOT DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM AND KIA HAD NO RESOLUTION, THEREFORE BOTH PARTIES OFFERED TO RETURN THE VEHICLE. OTHERS HAVE REPORTED THIS PROBLEM ON THE INTERNET. OUR INCIDENT WAS REPORTED TO KIA. THE RESULTANT CASE HAS BEEN ESCALATED THROUGH KIA'S SYSTEM, AND WE ARE NOW WAITING FOR FURTHER COMMUNICATION. THE SAFETY OF THIS VEHICLE IS IN QUESTION...OUR CONFIDENCE IN THIS VEHICLE HAS BEEN SHAKEN. CURRENTLY, MY WIFE AND I WILL NOT DRIVE THIS VEHICLE, WE CONSIDER IT TOO DANGEROUS, AND WE DO NOT WANT TO PUT OURSELVES, OR OTHERS AT RISK. *TR
