Filed: Sep 2025

While driving your 2023 Kia Forte, the engine suddenly lost power and wouldn't respond, though you were able to pull over safely. After restarting the vehicle, it worked again, but no warning lights appeared on your dashboard. Your dealer diagnosed a transmission failure and said the transmission would need to be replaced to fix the problem.

NHTSA #: 11690318
highPOWER TRAIN
Filed: Apr 2025

Your clutch pressure plate failed suddenly, causing the teeth to shear off when you tried to shift into gear. You heard a grinding noise when pressing the clutch pedal, but no warning lights appeared beforehand. While this happened at a stoplight, if it had occurred while driving, your engine would have lost power to the wheels and your car would have coasted to a stop. A Kia dealer has already replaced the failed parts.

NHTSA #: 11657651
highPOWER TRAIN
Filed: Jan 2025

While swerving to avoid an oncoming vehicle and driving downhill, your car made a loud thud and became undriveable. A dealer diagnosed a failed clutch assembly that needs replacement. The failure occurred at approximately 36,000 miles.

FireFiled: Mar 2026

Your car caught fire while stuck in mud. After getting stuck backing out of a driveway, the vehicle began smoking under the driver's side tires, followed by a popping sound. The undercarriage then caught fire and spread to engulf the entire vehicle within minutes. The cause of the fire may be related to undercarriage damage or fluid leakage from being stuck in mud.

NHTSA #: 11724342
criticalUNKNOWN OR OTHER
Filed: Nov 2024

Your 2023 Kia Forte shut down completely while you were driving at 40 mph with no warning lights or error codes. The dealership suspected what caused it but couldn't confirm the problem, so they refused to repair it without proof. A car shutting off while driving is a serious safety concern and needs to be diagnosed and fixed.

NHTSA #: 11626840
Forward Collision Avoidance2 issues
highFORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE
Filed: Jul 2025

Your forward collision warning light turned on unexpectedly while driving home and remained on even after you reset the car. The warning system may have a sensor malfunction or calibration issue that needs attention. A dealer diagnostic scan and possible sensor recalibration or replacement will likely be needed to resolve the problem.

NHTSA #: 11677136
highFORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE
Filed: Jul 2025

Your car's forward collision avoidance system is falsely detecting vehicles in other lanes and suddenly applying the brakes when nothing is in front of you. You may also see warning messages on the dashboard saying the radar is blocked or offline even though it appears to be working normally. This is a known issue Kia has addressed in other models with a software update, but your dealership may need guidance to properly diagnose and fix it.

NHTSA #: 11673182
Unknown Or Other,engine1 issue
criticalUNKNOWN OR OTHER,ENGINE
FireFiled: Mar 2026

Your 2023 Kia Forte's engine compartment caught fire while the car was parked and idle for at least 24 hours, causing extensive damage that totaled the vehicle. Kia engineers investigated and confirmed it was an engine fire, but were unable to determine the specific cause due to the severity of the damage. The fire originated in the engine compartment and required firefighter intervention to extinguish. Kia will likely need to conduct a detailed forensic inspection or replace engine components to identify and prevent the root cause.

NHTSA #: 11726670
Air Bags1 issue
criticalAIR BAGS
CrashFiled: Feb 2026

Your son was in a car accident in your 2023 Kia Forte on January 1st, and none of the airbags deployed despite the crash. You have a police report and photos documenting the incident. This will likely require Kia to investigate the airbag system's sensors and deployment mechanisms to determine why they didn't activate.

criticalSTEERING,STRUCTURE,VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL
Crash / FireFiled: Dec 2025

Your car was involved in a fatal accident at high speed that resulted in a crash into a building, followed by a fire. The vehicle's data recorder could not be recovered to determine what may have caused the incident or how the car's systems performed during the accident.

NHTSA #: 11703022
Electrical System,service Brakes1 issue
criticalELECTRICAL SYSTEM,SERVICE BRAKES
Filed: Aug 2025

Your car's electronic parking brake and Auto Hold system unexpectedly engaged the brakes fully while driving at highway speeds, creating an immediate collision risk and damaging the brake rotors. This happened multiple times, and the next day your brake pedal wouldn't work at all. The dealership found a sticky substance inside the electronic parking brake button caused by factory lubrication mixed with dust and debris accumulation. Fixing this issue involved cleaning or replacing the electronic parking brake button and related brake system components.

NHTSA #: 11683514
Steering,engine,forward Collision Avoidance1 issue
criticalSTEERING,ENGINE,FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE
Filed: Jan 2025

Your 2023 Kia Forte has lost all electrical power four times in the first month of ownership, and the Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (collision avoidance feature) is malfunctioning and taking control of the steering without warning. These issues create serious safety risks, especially if they occur while driving in traffic. The dealership has scheduled service for late January, and you've contacted Kia corporate to pursue a warranty claim.

Steering,unknown Or Other1 issue
highSTEERING,UNKNOWN OR OTHER
CrashFiled: Jan 2026

Your car was involved in a crash that damaged the front passenger area, which had previously been in an accident in the same spot. You're concerned that this repeated damage to the steering component in that location might indicate a pre-existing structural or mechanical issue similar to ones reported in other 2023 Fortes, even though your car isn't currently under recall. A mechanic should inspect the front passenger steering components and frame alignment to ensure they're functioning properly and haven't been compromised.

NHTSA #: 11709300
Electrical System,exterior Lighting,lane Departure1 issue
highELECTRICAL SYSTEM,EXTERIOR LIGHTING,LANE DEPARTURE
Filed: Oct 2025

Your car has had multiple electrical problems starting at 44,000 miles that are getting worse. The dashboard lights come on unexpectedly, the backup camera doesn't work reliably, the brake lights flicker on and off (which caused you to get a ticket), the gear shifter sometimes doesn't respond, and your fuel gauge and mileage display show incorrect readings. The dealership has struggled to diagnose and fix these interconnected electrical issues despite multiple visits.

NHTSA #: 11691550
Structure1 issue
highSTRUCTURE
Filed: Jul 2025

While driving at 20 mph and coming to a stop, your passenger front door unlatched and swung open on its own, even though it was locked and closed. This triggered your door sensors and is understandably concerning, since at higher speeds an unexpectedly open door could be dangerous to you and other drivers.

NHTSA #: 11672658
Suspension,exterior Lighting,engine1 issue
highSUSPENSION,EXTERIOR LIGHTING,ENGINE
Filed: Feb 2025

Your engine oil is forming sludge buildup despite regular full synthetic oil changes. After hitting a pothole, two rear lights stopped working and won't turn back on even after replacing the bulbs and wiring harness. Your suspension has experienced premature wear—the lower control arm and trailing arm failed at only 20,000 miles, and you're experiencing severe noise and scraping over bumps, suggesting the coils and struts may also be failing prematurely. Fixing these issues will likely require replacement of suspension components (control arms, struts, coils) and diagnostic work on the rear lighting circuit.

NHTSA #: 11641375
Lane Departure1 issue
highLANE DEPARTURE
Filed: Feb 2025

While driving at 75 MPH, you noticed the Lane Keep Assist system was steering your car toward the right side of the road, causing it to veer toward an exit multiple times. You were able to manually correct the steering each time. This issue occurred at around 30,000 miles and hasn't been diagnosed or repaired.

NHTSA #: 11640377
Electrical System1 issue
mediumELECTRICAL SYSTEM
Filed: Dec 2025

Your low beam headlights are burning out multiple times per year, which is much more frequent than typical vehicles. This suggests there may be an underlying electrical issue causing the bulbs to fail prematurely. A mechanic should test your vehicle's electrical system and charging voltage to identify why the headlights are wearing out so quickly.
