Your 1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee's frame and undercarriage have severe rust damage that makes the vehicle unsafe to drive. The control arms are rusted and have detached from the frame, and the frame itself is too corroded to reattach them. The fix would require replacing rusted frame sections and welding in new frame rails to properly reattach the suspension components.

EXCESSIVE ENGINE KNOCKING WITH POWER LOSS AND ABNORMAL DRIVING CAPABILITES. SOUNDS LIKE BAD INTERNALS. SUSPENSION CAUSES "DEATH WOBBLE" AT CRUISING SPEEDS. ENGINE HAPPENS ANYTIME ENGINE IS RUNNING PRODUCING LARGE QUANTITIES OF SMOKE FROM TAILPIPE.
WHEN DRIVING AT A SPEED OF 55 MPH OR ABOVE, AND HAVING TO BRAKE, THE JEEP IMMEDIATELY GOES INTO A TERRIFYING DEATH WOBBLE. WE'VE TRAINED OURSELVES TO DOWN SHIFT, TO SLOW THE VEHICLE DOWN (IT'S AN AUTOMATIC). BUT THERE ARE TIMES WHEN WE DO HAVE TO SUDDENLY HIT THE BRAKE BECAUSE THE DOWN SHIFTING DOESN'T SLOW US DOWN ENOUGH, AND THE JEEP ALWAYS GOES INTO THE DEATH WOBBLE. LUCKILY WE HAVE NOT FLIPPED IT YET. WE'VE TRIED TO FIX THE PROBLEM WITH NEW ROTTERS, BRAKE PADS, WHEEL ALIGNMENT, ETC (THE JEEP IS NOT LIFTED, IT IS STOCK). NOTHING HAS CURED IT. THERE IS A FATAL ACCIDENT WAITING TO HAPPEN.

THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS UNABLE TO BE REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 100,000. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE. *TR

I HAVE A 99 JEEP CHEROKEE SPORT. THE FRONT END BECOMES UNCONTROLLABLE AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS WHEN DRIVEN ON ANYTHING LESS THAN PERFECTLY SMOOTH FLAT ROADWAY SURFACE. THE CONSUMERS WIFE WAS DRIVING, WHEN ALL OF A SUDDEN THE VEHICLE STARTED TO ACCELERATE ON ITS OWN, SHE APPLIED THE BRAKES AS HARD AS SHE COULD, HOWEVER THE VEHICLE CONTINUED TO PROCEED IN A FORWARD MOTION. THE ONLY SOLUTION WAS TO PLACE THE VEHICLE INTO PARK. AFTER PLACING THE VEHICLE IN PARK, THE CONSUMERS WIFE PLACED IT IN DRIVE AGAIN AND IMMEDIATELY IT STARTED TO ACCELERATE UNCONTROLLABLY. APPLYING THE BRAKES WITH FULL FORCE DID NOT SOLVE THE PROBLEM. WHEN AAA ARRIVED AND STARTED THE VEHICLE, NOTHING HAPPENED. THE SUDDEN ACCELERATION HAPPENED AGAIN WHILE THE CONSUMERS DAUGHTER WAS DRIVING. DURING ONE OF THE SUDDEN ACCELERATION INCIDENTS, THE CONSUMERS WIFE WAS INJURED. THE RIGHT FRONT WHEEL SPEED SENSOR WAS REPLACED. THE COOLANT RADIATOR FAN RELAY AND WATER PUMP WERE REPLACED. THE AIR BAG LIGHT WAS ON, THE TRANSMISSION SEAL WAS LEAKING. THE FUEL PUMP WAS REPLACED. THE RIGHT AND LEFT HUB BEARING WERE REPLACED. *JB

THERE WAS A NOISE AS IF SOMETHING FELL OFF OF THE FRONT END OF THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP WHERE IT WAS DETERMINED THE LOWER CONTROL ARM; LOWER BALL JOINTS SEPARATED.
A LOUD GRINDING NOISE WAS COMING FROM THE FRONT. WHILE APPLYING THE BRAKES THE NOISE ESCALATED REPEATEDLY. CONSUMER TOOK VEHICLE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER FOR INSPECTION. HOWEVER, MECHANIC WAS UNABLE TO DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM. *AK

WHILE DRIVING AT 50 MPH, THE STEERING WHEEL STARTED TO SHAKE AND PULLED TO RIGHT. PROBLEM STILL EXISTS. *LA THERE WAS ANOTHER OCCASION WHERE THE VEHICLE HAD GONE OUT OF CONTROL ON WET METAL GRADING DUE TO THE PROBLEM NOT BEING RESOLVED. ALSO TERRIBLE SHAKING IN FRONT END WHEN BRAKING. BRAKES/ROTORS ALL NEW AND REPLACED STILL SHAKES. FOG LAMPS CONTINUOUSLY BURN OUT, DEALER STATES WIRING HARNESS. HAVE HAD TO PAY THE DEDUCTIBLE ON THIS NUMEROUS TIMES... LIKE IT IS MY FAULT THEY BURN OUT. *LA
WITHIN FOUR YEARS APPROXIMATELY 8,000-10,000 MILES BOTH FRONT BRAKE ROTORS HAD TO BE TURNED TWICE AND THEN REPLACED. ALSO, BOTH FRONT CALIPERS HAD TO BE REPLACED. THIS CAUSES VEHICLE TO VIBRATE AND MAKE A GRINDING NOISE WHEN BRAKING. DEALER AND MANUFACTURER WERE NOTIFIED, AND WERE UNABLE TO LOCATE THE CAUSE. *AK THE BRAKES PULSATED WHILE DRIVING. THE DASH VENT DID NOT WORK, AND THE AIR ONLY WORKED THROUGH THE DEFROST.*TS THE CONSUMER STATED THE FRONT END OF THE VEHICLE FELT LOOSE, THE DEALER DISCOVERED THE BALL JOINTS NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE DRIVER SIDE REAR QUARTER PANEL WAS LOOSE*JB
FRONT AND REAR SHOCK ABSORBERS FAIL AND LEAK FLUIDS REQUIRING REPLACMENT. FIRST INCIDENT, FRONT AN REAR SHOCKS REPLACED AT 36000 MILES. AT 54,000 MILES THE SAME PROBLEM HAPPENED AGAIN. CHRYSLER ADMITTED ON THE PHONE THAT THEY HAD PROBLEMS WITH THE SHOCKS. CHRYSLER REFUSES TO REPLACE DEFECTIVE SHOCKS. RIDE AND HANDLING ARE AFFECTED NEGATIVELY. *AK

WHILE DRIVING AT 65MPH, THE BRAKES BEGAN TO GRIND, AND THE WHEEL BEARING ON BOTH SIDES WERE MAKING NOISE. *AK THE CONSUMER STATES THAT BOTH FRONT HUB BEARINGS AND AXLE SEALS WERE REPLACED AT THE DEALER. THE ROTORS WERE COMPLETELY DESTROYED WITH THE FACTORY PADS INTACT. THE PAD WERE STILL GOOD. THE ROTORS HOWEVER WERE SO THIN THAT THEY CRUMBLED(VERY DANGEROUS). NOW THE REAR HUBS ARE LOUD AN NEED REPLACING. THE CONSUMER HAS REPLACED THE REAR WHEEL BEARING, AND THE BEARINGS ON THE REAR AXLE IN THE HUB ARE SEPERATED/EXTREMELY DANGEROUS-PART OF THE BEARING ARE SPINNING IN THE INSIDE OF THE HUB. *SCC
WHILE DRIVING OVER 50MPH AND APPLYING BRAKES STEERING WHEEL WILL ROCK SIDE TO SIDE VIBRATING HEAVILY, AND IT WILL BE HARD FOR THE CONSUMER TO CONTROL VEHICLE. DEALER NOTIFIED.*AK

THE REAR WHEELS LOCKED UP CAUSING THE VEHICLE TO SPIN 180 DEGREES AND CRUSHED WITH ANOTHER VEHICLE. THE CAUSE WAS DETERMINED TO BE A BROKEN CLIP THAT HOLDS REAR AXLE IN PLACE. LEFT REAR AXLE, BEARING AND SEAL WERE REPLACED. THE CLIPPER MOUNTING BRACKET WAS REPLACED. *YH

DEALER WAS INFORMED AND HAD NO EXPLANATION FOR WHERE THE PROBLEM COMES FROM.*AK NOISE IS HEARD WHILE DRIVING AND ACCELRATING. THE NOISE INCREASES WITH THE SPEED OF THE VEHICLE. VEHICLE ALSO NEEDS REAR BRAKE WORK, THE SERPENTINE BELT IS CRACKED, AND THE HEAD GASKET IS LEAKING. *JG

AFTER ALMOST TWICE A MONTH TRIPS TO THE SERVICE PROVIDER AND BEING TOLD THAT MY ALLIGNMENT WAS A RESULT OF MY DRIVING THERE WAS A RECALL POSTED FOR A PART THAT CAUSED ALLIGNMENT PROBLEMS. ALTHOUGH THIS WAS EVENTUALLY FIXED, MY TIRES SUFFERED AND HAD TO BE REPLACED VERY PREMATURELY. AFTER CONTACTING GOODYEAR AND CHRYSLER I WAS TOLD THE TIRES WERE MY RESPONSIBILITY AND THAT THE "BAD" PART WOULD NOT HAVE CAUSED SIGNIFICANT TIRE DAMAGE. WHEN COMING TO A STOP, OR SLOWING MOVING, AND SOMETIMES ACCELLERATING, SMALL CLUNKS ARE HEARD & FELT FROM THE REAR OF VEHICLE. SOMETIMES THESE CLUNKS FEEL LIKE SOMEONE HAS HIT YOUR VEHICLE FROM BEHIND, THUS FORCING YOUR VEHICLE FORWARD WITH A HARD JERK. THE DEALERSHIP HAS REPROGRAMMED THE SYSTEM, BUT IT DID NOT TOTALLY SOLVE THE CLUNKING PROBLEMS BUT FEELS LIKE THE SHIFTING HAS CHANGED. I HAVE TRIED TO REPRODUCE THE PROBLEM FOR THEM A COUPLE TIMES, BUT AM USUALLY UNABLE TO MAKE IT "SLAM". I HAVE TOLD THEM THAT OTHER PEOPLE I HAVE TALKED WITH HAVE HAD THIS SAME PROBLEM, AND IT WAS DUE TO A FAULTY DRIVE SHAFT AND SLIP-YOKE, WHICH WAS FIXED IN THE 2000 MODELS.
WHEN A BUMP OR POTHOLE IS HIT @ 25MPH OR ABOVE, THE FRONT END AND STEERING SYSTEM SHIMMY OUT OF CONTROL. CAR TAKEN TO DEALER FOR REPAIR AND THE SERVICE MANAGER STATES THAT IS "NORMAL FOR THE VEHICLE" WHICH IS AN UN-ACCEPTABLE ANSWER TO THIS SAFETY PROBLEM. THE VEHICLE CANNOT BE OPERATED IN A SAFE MANNER FOR BOTH OUR VEHICLE AND ANY VEHICLES AROUND WHEN SHIMMY OCCURS.

STEERING WHEEL SHAKES ON EXTREME LEFT OR RIGHT TURNS FORWARD OR REVERSE UNTIL TRANSMISSION WAS REPLACED. DEALER STATED SHAKING WAS NORMAL. JEEP HAS 2000 MILES.
