CrashFiled: Mar 2026

Your car's power brakes and steering suddenly stopped working while you were slowly turning into your driveway, causing the vehicle to accelerate and crash into your garage and then a tree. The forward collision avoidance system did not activate to prevent the impact. The airbags deployed and the vehicle was totaled; a police report was filed with Closter, NJ Police.

Vehicle Speed Control1 issue
criticalVEHICLE SPEED CONTROL
Filed: Feb 2026

Your cruise control may have malfunctioned while driving downhill, causing your vehicle to continue accelerating even when you applied the brakes. You heard abnormal sputtering and a high-pitched sound from the engine, and despite your brake pedal feeling firm, the vehicle kept speeding up until you manually turned off the cruise control. The issue occurred at 65,000 miles with no warning lights to alert you. A mechanic will need to diagnose the cruise control system and engine management to determine what caused the unintended acceleration.

Your 2022 Jeep Compass is stalling and shutting off unexpectedly, especially at stop signs, traffic lights, or when coming to a stop. You're also experiencing surging forward and jerking when accelerating or slowing down at low speeds, which has put you and your passengers at risk of being rear-ended. Your dealer has checked the vehicle multiple times but hasn't identified the cause, and your car has stalled three times in the past two days. Diagnosing this issue will likely involve the dealer running a full engine and transmission diagnostic scan to identify whether it's a fuel system, ignition, or transmission control problem.

Steering,engine,lane Departure1 issue
criticalSTEERING,ENGINE,LANE DEPARTURE
Filed: Nov 2025

Your car has stalled 9 times while driving, and you can't tell it's happening because the engine is quiet and the dashboard still shows "Run." The car coasts an extra 2 feet before stopping, which is dangerous in busy traffic. Additionally, the lane departure warning system activates on its own even when no cars are nearby, causing sudden braking with loud alarms and flashing lights—and turning it off doesn't prevent it from reactivating. A mechanic will need to diagnose the engine stalling issue (likely fuel system, ignition, or engine control computer) and recalibrate or repair the lane departure warning system.

Four days after having recall 88A serviced at your dealership, your Jeep stalled at a stoplight and won't restart. Your emergency brake activated and became stuck, and multiple warning lights now appear including "blind spot alert temporarily unavailable" and a check engine light. The vehicle ran fine before the recall service, suggesting the repair may have caused this electrical and engine shutdown issue.

Steering,power Train1 issue
criticalSTEERING,POWER TRAIN
Filed: Aug 2025

Your steering column has made a persistent clunking noise since 20,000 miles, and despite multiple repairs including rack and pinion replacement, front axle replacements, and lower control arm repairs, the noise continues. A faulty intermediate shaft has been identified as the root cause, but your dealership says they cannot address it. This intermediate shaft issue could potentially cause complete loss of steering control while driving.

Steering,service Brakes1 issue
criticalSTEERING,SERVICE BRAKES
Filed: Jul 2025

Your Compass arrived with serious safety issues that weren't caught during the pre-delivery inspection. The brake rotors were warped and damaged, but instead of replacing them, only new brake pads were installed over the bad rotors. Additionally, all tires were severely out of balance and the wheel alignment was far off spec. When your daughter drove onto the highway at 50 mph, the vehicle rattled violently and pulled to the right. A repair facility inspection revealed these critical brake and suspension problems should have been identified and fixed before delivery. Fixing this will require replacing the brake rotors, balancing all four tires, and performing a full wheel alignment.

Service Brakes,forward Collision Avoidance1 issue
criticalSERVICE BRAKES,FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE
Filed: May 2025

Your emergency brake is locking up while the vehicle is in drive mode, and you're having difficulty accelerating from a stopped position—the car only moves very slowly, which could cause another vehicle to rear-end you. This combination of brake and acceleration issues is preventing normal driving operation.

Filed: Mar 2026

Your car stalls at intersections and is difficult to restart, which is a safety concern when stopped in traffic. You've been turning off the auto start/stop feature to avoid this problem. Fixing this likely involves diagnosing the fuel system, battery, or engine control systems to identify why the engine is shutting down unexpectedly.

Your advanced safety systems are malfunctioning regularly. Almost every time you drive on the highway or make turns, your dashboard displays multiple warnings: "Blind Spot Temporarily Unavailable," orange triangle warnings on your mirrors that won't clear, and a message that your automatic braking system needs servicing. This is happening on a nearly new vehicle with under 12,000 miles, which creates a safety concern since you rely on these systems while transporting your children. The issue likely requires diagnostic software updates or replacement of the blind spot and collision avoidance sensors.

Filed: Jan 2026

Your transmission is jerking violently when shifting, causing a harsh jolt that feels unsafe. You've had it serviced three times for this same issue without resolution, and the shop has also noted that your engine is consuming oil faster than normal. The vehicle has been in the shop since late October with multiple unresolved problems. A transmission fluid replacement, filter change, or internal transmission repair may be needed to address the jerking issue.

Your ABS warning light stays on constantly. Your battery died about a week after you replaced it with a new one, requiring a jump start. When it rains or snows, your wipers and headlights behave erratically, and your backup camera sometimes displays a solid blue screen for no apparent reason. These symptoms suggest an underlying electrical wiring issue that's draining your battery and affecting multiple systems.

Filed: Oct 2025

Your dashboard lights flicker on and off randomly, and your car has stalled multiple times. The dealership has attributed these issues to bad batteries, and you've had both batteries replaced in less than 2 years, but the problem persists. This suggests an underlying electrical issue rather than just battery failure. The fix will likely involve a diagnostic test to identify what's draining or damaging the batteries, such as a faulty alternator, parasitic drain, or wiring problem.

Steering1 issue
highSTEERING
Filed: Sep 2025

You've been hearing a clunking noise from your steering wheel and front left side, especially when turning at low speeds or while idling, and it's gotten louder and more frequent over time. Your vehicle feels wobbly when you turn the steering wheel, which made you concerned about highway safety. The dealership diagnosed the problem using a Chassis Ear diagnostic tool and found the issue is in your steering gear; they're recommending replacement of the steering gear (rack and pinion system) and outer tie rod ends. This repair is not covered under your warranty, and unfortunately your limited warranty expired 4 months ago.

When you start your car, the steering wheel sometimes locks up and won't turn, and the gear shift moves but the car won't move forward or backward. Pulling the emergency brake, turning the car off and on, and cycling through the gears may eventually get the steering and transmission to work again. This has happened 4 times in 3 months of ownership. The issue may involve the steering lock mechanism, transmission control module, or related electrical connections that need diagnosis and repair.

Filed: Sep 2025

Your front tires are wearing out much faster than normal, especially on the inner edges, even though a repair shop confirmed your alignment is within factory specifications. You've had to replace your front tires twice in about 28,000 miles, and you've found that many other 2022 Compass owners are reporting the same problem. The issue likely stems from a design or manufacturing problem rather than an alignment issue that can be adjusted.

Filed: Aug 2025

Your instrument cluster display goes blank while driving, making it impossible to see your speedometer, fuel gauge, and other vital information. You believe this matches two known electrical system recalls, but your vehicle's VIN wasn't included in either one. The dealer confirmed the repair won't be covered and would be your expense to fix. Fixing this typically involves diagnosing the instrument cluster power supply or replacing the cluster module itself.

Power Train,electrical System1 issue
highPOWER TRAIN,ELECTRICAL SYSTEM
Filed: Jun 2025

Your vehicle's Auto Stop system is activating unexpectedly while driving at various speeds, causing the engine to shut off and the transmission to stop responding until you restart the car. The dealer has replaced both the alternator and main battery, but the problem keeps happening. The root cause hasn't been identified yet, though the manufacturer has been notified. Fixing this will likely require further electrical system diagnosis and possibly additional component replacements.

Filed: Dec 2025

You discovered a bolt head and washer on your garage floor that had broken off from the right front cross member mounting bracket on your vehicle's body. Your dealer confirmed the bolt failed but indicated the vehicle is still safe to drive because five other bolts remain securing that connection. However, the replacement bolt is on back order with no available timeline for arrival. The repair will involve replacing the failed bolt and washer on the front cross member bracket.
