Sep 2020

NHTSA Campaign: 20V208000

Component: VISIBILITY:WINDSHIELD WIPER/WASHER:LINKAGES

Chrysler (FCA US LLC) is recalling certain 2019-2020 Ram 1500, 1500 Classic and Jeep Compass vehicles. The windshield wiper arm or arms may loosen, possibly causing the wipers to not operate properly and reduce the driver's visibility in certain weather conditions.

Risk: Reduced visibility increases the risk of a crash.

Fix: Chrysler will notify owners, and dealers will tighten the wiper nuts, free of charge. The recall began April 27, 2020. Owners may contact Chrysler customer service at 1-800-853-1403. Chrysler's number for this recall is W25.

Your Jeep has had ongoing electrical problems since you purchased it in March 2020, including flickering dashboard lights, radio shutdowns, and multiple complete power losses while driving. The car has stalled several times over the years and died completely at a stoplight, leaving you without lights or warning signals in a dangerous situation. You've replaced the battery twice and repeatedly requested dealer help, but they initially said repairs weren't covered and later requested payment for diagnostics despite initially promising free diagnosis. The underlying electrical issue likely requires a full diagnostic scan and battery/charging system inspection to identify what's draining or failing in the electrical system.

Your dashboard periodically displays a "High Coolant Temperature" warning that causes the engine to shut down for a few seconds before restarting on its own, even though the temperature reads normal afterward. This has happened multiple times at various speeds, including once on a busy street where you had to stop in traffic. The actual coolant temperature appears normal, suggesting a sensor or electrical issue rather than genuine overheating.

Your car's auto start feature from the key fob wouldn't work, and pressing the push-to-start button also failed to start the engine. You received a warning that coolant temperature was high, and the car had to be towed to a dealer for diagnosis.

Your Jeep's auto stop-start feature (which shuts off the engine at red lights to save fuel) is shutting your engine off completely and not restarting, leaving you stranded in traffic. This has caused dangerous situations where you've blocked traffic for several minutes at a time. You've confirmed your battery is relatively new, so the issue appears to be with the auto stop-start system itself rather than battery age. The fix will likely involve diagnosing the stop-start control module or related electrical components to restore proper function.

Your engine has shut off completely twice while driving on busy highways — once while turning left into traffic and once while stopped at a red light. After restarting the car, a service message appears for the Auto Stop/Start feature. This is a serious safety issue since the engine shutdowns occur without warning in traffic situations.

FireFiled: Dec 2025

Your car caught fire while parked without any warning signs like check engine lights or temperature warnings. Your daughter smelled smoke, you shut off the engine and exited the vehicle, and flames appeared shortly after with sparking visible. The fire department believes the fire originated in the engine area. This is a serious safety issue that resulted in total loss and spread to nearby vehicles.

Your 4WD system is unexpectedly turning on and off while you're driving, and your brakes locked up once at 35 mph. Your vehicle's computer has become unresponsive, the battery isn't charging properly even after replacement, and the engine won't start. You're also seeing a "Service 4WD" warning message, and the Auto START/STOP feature isn't working—these problems happen more often in snow or rain. The dealer was unable to reproduce or fix the issue.

Your engine has shut down unexpectedly several times over the past 3 months, starting around 50,000 miles, and you're seeing coolant temperature warnings on the dashboard. This happens while you're driving in traffic, making it difficult to control the vehicle safely. The dealership hasn't been able to identify the cause yet. The fix will likely involve diagnosing the engine cooling system, temperature sensors, and electrical connections to find what's triggering the shutdowns.

Filed: Dec 2025

Your car's high temperature coolant warning light came on while you were driving at night, and the engine shut down. After waiting a couple of minutes, the engine started back up without further issues. This appears to be a cooling system concern that may need inspection to prevent future shutdowns.

Your 2020 Jeep Compass randomly shuts down while driving or at idle, displaying a "high coolant temperature warning" on the dashboard before restarting on its own—sometimes requiring you to manually restart it. This happens unpredictably on highways at 65 mph and at traffic lights, creating a safety hazard. Both the selling dealer and a Jeep dealership were unable to identify or fix the problem. Diagnosis will likely involve a thorough inspection of the cooling system, engine sensors, and electrical components to identify why the vehicle thinks it's overheating when the dealership couldn't find any actual problem.

Filed: Jul 2025

While driving at 40 mph on a busy street, your car's engine suddenly shut off completely, leaving you without power for less than a minute before restarting on its own. The start/stop function indicator light appeared on the dashboard after the restart and remained on until you turned the car off at home; the light was gone when you restarted it later. The dealership suspects a battery issue, but this is concerning because a similar incident at highway speeds in an unsafe location could lead to a serious accident.

Your infotainment screen started showing a pixelated and distorted image, which caused your rear-view camera to stop working when you put the vehicle in reverse. The screen eventually displayed several lines before going completely blank. The dealer diagnosed the problem as a defective radio unit that needs to be replaced.

Your check engine light keeps coming on and showing an ESC (Electronic Stability Control) failure code. You've already replaced the auxiliary battery, main battery, and alternator, but your Uconnect infotainment system still isn't working—it won't load maps on the screen and won't recognize your phone. The underlying electrical issue may need a full diagnostic to find what's causing both the ESC code and the infotainment failures.

Filed: Oct 2025

Your car suddenly wouldn't accelerate beyond 20 mph while driving in traffic. You've also noticed clunking noises whenever you accelerate since purchasing the car 6 months ago. There's a recall (W48/NHTSA 20E-037) for other 2020 Jeep Compass Latitudes that appears to address this exact issue, but your VIN wasn't included in that recall, which you believe may be an error. A technician will need to diagnose the acceleration limiter and clunking sounds, potentially involving transmission or engine mount inspection and repair.

Your dashboard screen stopped working and your backup camera no longer functions. The problem started after snow weather, and while you initially hoped it would resolve once temperatures warmed up, resetting the system didn't fix it. The issue may involve water damage or electrical connections affected by the snow exposure.

Your warranty claim for tire and rim coverage on your 2020 Jeep Compass has been unresolved for over three months, leaving you without a vehicle. You've experienced unprofessional service from the warranty company, been denied rental car coverage, and had your rims damaged during multiple removal and remounting attempts by repair shops. You may now be responsible for paying diagnostic charges that the warranty company is refusing to cover. Resolution will likely require the warranty company to either complete the rim repair, provide compensation for damages, cover the diagnostic fees, and potentially offer rental reimbursement.

Your airbag system warning light keeps coming on even after the dealership replaced the occupant restraint control (ORC) module. They then replaced the clock spring device, but you believe this is the same issue covered under a previous Jeep recall for 2011-2016 models. You may need the clock spring component inspected or replaced again to resolve the persistent warning light.

Your rearview camera display shows a distorted or unclear image when you put the car in reverse, making it hard to see behind you safely. On a separate occasion, your car didn't accelerate when you pressed the gas pedal and the engine stalled; when you restarted it, you heard an abnormal humming sound from the engine, and a warning light flashed on the gear shift. The fix may involve replacing the rearview camera module and having the engine and transmission system diagnosed for the stalling and humming issues.
