My Jeep will accelerate forward when breaking, stall at a red light and roll back, massive humming and grinding on the peddle, start/stop failure and failure to start. I've been able to avoid two crashes so far and used my own scanner to detect the problem. Nothing comes up.

Tuesday 11/11 my 2019 Jeep Cherokee was involved in an accident due to the PTU not working properly. In PA we had very poor road conditions due to snow throughout the night into the morning. When making a turn my car slid and hit a curb damaging the front right side of my vehicle.

Recall was in 1/2025 and there is no solution and parts in sight as of 10/1/2025. Factory and Dealers have no idea as to when a fix is coming. I think this should have been fixed by now.

They issued a recall 6+ months ago. They still don’t have the part to repair it - they claim verbally at the dealership and via phone @ Mopar that there’s no risk but that’s not what the recall notice says. The recall notice says that I could lose control of the vehicle while driving or that there could risk of a fire, fluid leakage, loss of parking capability.

There is a recall for the vehicle where the repair description states that if a PTU failure occurs it will be replaced by FCA US. The PTU damage has been confirmed by an independent service center and the dealership.

The rear differential housing is peeling apart and leaking out the fluid. It is clearly a defect that is shown widely on the internet affecting many other owners of this vehicle. Clearly there is a danger of the drive train locking up and can lead to accident.

Vehicle power train unit was recalled 01/23/2025 for failing parts, however, no parts are available for a fix, Jeep/FCA are not aware when the parts will be available and/or when the recall will be completed. The failure of the PTU can cause dangerous, if not fatal results, including a lower of drive power, a vehicle crash, a loss of park function, and even death.

The SVC 4WD light came on. Took it to dealer and was told I need to pay $4,000 out of pocket to get the ptu replaced. I’ve read articles stating that my car should have a recall on it but when I search my VIN… nothing comes up.

Hi, I am making this report because my jeep has a similar issue I've noticed has been recalled on earlier year jeep cherokees my service 4WD light has come on every time I drive including losing access to my 4WD in the vehicle. While stopped my jeep seems to stall out occasionally at stop lights or signs.

2019 jeep cherokee is doing everything that the power train recall was listed for in 2018 but this VIN was not covered under the recall. My vehicle has broke down multiple times without warning and I have even bought a new battery just to find out that was not the problem. The most recent time it broke down it was stationary, all warning lights came on across the instrument panel.

When I accelerate my vehicle after a stop or getting on the highway, it stalls and or stutters. This is a major safety concern. I have almost been hit because my vehicle would not accelerate when I had my foot on the gas.

Vehicle driving and when coming to a stop it seems like the auto turn off wants to turn off even before stopping. Feels like its going to stall. Also leaving a red light when it auto turns on it jerks and then switching from first to secong gear it jerks.

NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 25V011000 PTU RECALL has been addressed by local dealership 2xs. They have ran the update and receive no errors however they continue to experience loss of power when excelerating and loud grinding noises as described. Currently the dealership still has my keep until there is a fix. I’ve contacted the manufacturer whom said there is nothing they will do if there is no error after the software update. I’m out of factory warranty and there is no reason I should be held responsible financially to fix a recall. I’ve read many other threads online that this has happened to others. I’m looking for some guidance as my Jeep Cherokee 2019 is unsafe and is going to cause an accident. About a year ago (2025 at about 65,000 miles) the first warning light that came on was the check engine light, but it only came on once,then went out. The next time we drove the car, the indicator light was the 4 wheel drive was unavailable/needed servicing. We took it to a very respected mechanic who gave us the bad news that it was the Power Transfer Unit, the cost would be upwards of $3,500 and that the part would take at least 6 months due to a backlog. WE NEVER, EVER USED THE FOUR WHEEL DRIVE! How does a part we never used go bad? The vehicle has started to occasionally act like it doesn't want to shift but eventually does with a jerk forward. Now we hear there is still no recall for our vin. Why would anyone buy a vehicle with 4 wheel drive if we're not going to be able to depend on it being available. I have always loved Jeeps but the type of responses (or lack thereof) we have received from several CJP dealerships will cause us to shop anywhere but a Jeep dealership. "You didn't buy it here .Why would we help you with anything? Not our problem." The Lithia dealership in Eugene, Oregon doesn't even have a real person answer the phone and has never returned one of our many phone calls. Same with computer generated requests. Complete radio silence. We live over an hour away from the dealership where we bought this piece of crap. We paid this expensive vehicle off early and this is how we should expect to be treated by the cheats who sold it to us? If this vehicle is not recalled/repaired for free, we will never own another and we will make sure we warn others of what they can expect if they do. Shame on all of you for not making this right for so many that depend on their vehicles to get them safely to their destinations.

When going over bumps such as speed bumps or bumps in the road there has been a clunking noise and sometimes a grind, for a few seconds.With this the ABS light also comes on. Then goes off. This has went on for the past 6-7months. Its not every time,it is very random. It will do it and not again for a while. On 3/16/26 the SVC FWD warning light came on while driving. After restarting it it takes about 30seconds and it comes back on and stays on until the vehicle is shut off. There has been a couple times the vehicle has hesitated to go forward when the gas was pressed. I have taken it to an auto shop and they found code: C14A7-97 for PTU failure. They recommended to contact Jeep since there is a recall for that year. When the dealer checked my VIN it does not fall under the recall. I am afraid of driving it as I don't want it to stall on me or cause an accident as I usually have my young child with me. The shop said it would be around $6000 to repair. If not under the recall.

It has now been more than a year since the recall was issued, and Stellantis still has not provided a remedy for my vehicle.

Started financing this vehicle 11/8/25- driving on the interstate on 11/27/25 I started hearing thumping noises coming from my vehicle, I thought it was the road so I turned my radio and everything off and listened and it continued so I pulled over. I put the vehicle in park, walked around my vehicle to check for flat tires and to see if I possibly ran over something and there was nothing.

SVC 4WD warning indicator light appeared in dash cluster. Vehicle has been taken to two certified Jeep service dealerships. Both have confirmed the issue is with the Power Transfer Unit and that it will need to be replaced.

There was a 4x4 warning light in Dec 2024. The dealership checked and provided a quote for a new PTU, but said we could keep driving until repair, just not to use 4x4. Then we received a recall notice for the PTU from Jeep.

We have been advised by a Jeep Dealer that this vehicle's PTU is failing and needs to be replaced immediately before the car can be driven again.

Current mileage 120,287 have owned since purchased in 2019. On 12/28/2025 experienced a loud pop and an apparent disconnect of power to drive wheels, place car in neutral and back into drive seemed to drive normal. After driving another 12 miles and turning onto a side road experienced the occurrence again.

The Power Transfer Unit (PTU) has failed for the SECOND TIME in this vehicles history. This problem disables the four wheel drive feature of the vehicle, causing a dashboard warning light to illuminate, and may lead to other serious drivetrain safety issues. According to the dealer service technician, the splines on the unit are wearing out and causing disengagement of the rear drive wheels.

The PTU has went out, as confirmed by the dealership. The 4 wheel drive on the vehicle stopped working in August of 2025. The lack of engagement of the 4 wheel drive has left me with little to no traction.

Rear differential was replaced on 8/2/23 under warranty due to banging and vibration . Since then I feel that problem on 8/2/23 was caused by the transfer case issues, slowing down the jeep would bang when coming to a stop, as if someone hit us from behind. Whet to the dealer today 9/3/25 and the told us we needed a new transfer case and other related issues.

I was at a red light, the first in line, and when the light turned green, I pressed the gas, and heard a horrible thud(thinking someone hit me because my car rattled) and then the car would not move forward. Each time I pressed the gas, nothing moved. I put it into park and back to drive, nothing.

The PTU power train unit is bad in this jeep and has been for awhile. I seen in Jan 2025 a recall for this for some jeeps and my jeep should be on there it’s been on back order to get fixed and still nothing. Also the rear end differential has been fixed 3 times for it being broken in 4 years

I need my VIN added to the recall list as my vehicle is within the group of affected vehicles, I've been informed by my dealership that this vehicle is at risk of freezing up at any moment due to this condition which is a safety concern. The PTU is an extremely expensive repair.

on multiple occasions when driving and trying to increase speed (such as after pulling out of my driveway) the car makes a sudden jerking almost or like something "misses" and it slows down and takes a couple seconds to regain again. On the most recent occasion, the engine light then came on and wouldn't go off. The code when tested, said it had to do with the transmission.

Vehicle has a "4WD SVC" light on. I took it to the Jeep Service center to get it diagnosed and it turns out the vehicle will need a PTU (Power transfer unit). I was told that it is not covered under their 01C recall and that I would have to pay for the replacement which is almost $4000.

The Power Transfer Unit and Transfer Case Assembly failed, it is currently available for inspection. The vehicle experienced unexpected loss of motive power at highway speed, additionally there was a noticeable front-end vibration and resulting dangerous change in drive quality. Finally, there was a loss of park function.

I’m reporting a Power Transfer Unit (PTU) failure on my 2019 Jeep Cherokee Limited 4x4. I recently took the vehicle in for inspection after noticing performance issues, and it was diagnosed with a failing PTU. After researching this problem, I found that Jeep has issued a recall for PTU issues on certain 2014–2019 Cherokees, but my vehicle is not included in that recall.
