Your Rear Differential Module (RDM) failed at 72,829 miles, requiring an expensive out-of-warranty replacement. In December 2025, your vehicle developed grinding and binding sounds from the rear end; the dealer initially misdiagnosed it as a driveshaft bearing failure, but after installing a new driveshaft, determined the RDM was actually the problem again. You've now had to order multiple replacement RDMs due to defects and shipping delays, with your vehicle remaining at the dealer awaiting installation. The fix will involve replacing the Rear Differential Module with a properly functioning unit.

The contact owns a 2014 Jeep Cherokee. The contact stated that refueling the vehicle took approximately 20 minutes to accomplish. The contact had to pump the fuel slowly, and it was difficult to fuel the vehicle to capacity. There was only one fuel pump that the contact could use in the town of his residence. The contact stated that fuel was spilling on the vehicle and the ground while refueling. There was an abnormal fuel odor inside the vehicle. There were no warning lights illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer on four occasions, where an unknown diagnostic was provided. The vehicle was repaired, but the failure reoccurred. The vehicle was taken to two independent mechanics who were unable to assist because the mechanics were not certified. The manufacturer was contacted and opened a case. The approximate failure mileage was 161,334.
While ATTEMPTING to fill up with gas the fuel nozzle kicks off REPEATEDLY, as if the tank is full! This has been occurring for the past year or so.
When is someone going to hold Chrysler liable for all of its fuel tank problem instead of passing the problem onto the consumers! The fuel tank 68217191AD im my 2014 Jeep Cherokee has been changed five times. I don't know about you but that tells me they have had problems with this tank from the very beginning. The new 68217191AF costs around 800 dollars to replace and they won't guarantee it not to do the same thing. They also have tank problems in other vehicles they make. If you don't hold them liable for their mistakes they will they will say sorry we know it's a problem but since it's not a recall you have to pay. Also had gas come flying out of tank getting on face arm and leg.

Tank is stuck at 1/4 full, some kind of issue withe the fuel tank. Can will run out of gas if miles are not monitored. The Gas Tank Aux Pump or design of the tank (Hump over drive shaft) is creating an issue.
Car wont accept gas, the gas tank becomes vapor locked, particular in cold weather. When you try to fill it you have to keep the gas at a triggle or the system will over flow. Takes like 5 minutes to fill up a tank easy in the winter if your luck.

The vehicle was taken back to the independent mechanic, where the fuel tank and the fuel neck were replaced; however, the failure recurred intermittently. The vehicle was not repaired. The dealer was notified of the failure. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and informed the contact that the VIN was not included in a recall. The manufacturer referred the contact to the NHTSA hotline for assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 145,000.
Engine stalls after filling tank. I’m not over filling it I stop at the first click and don’t put in a drop more. My engine will still stall and most times my car will completely shut off when I come to a stop.
1. The 2014 jeep Cherokee has stopped accepting gas except for .5 gallon intervals. Yes it is available for inspection 2. The possibility of running out of gas and the car stalling out. 3. Yes Dewey Dodge has evaluated the vehicle. 4. Jeep headquarters has received the dealer documents and complaint from us about our jeep 5. No warning. Just stopped being able to get fuel in tank with out reengaging pump multiple times and taking over 30 min to get gas. This problem first occurred within the last 3 months.
The vehicle bucks and stalls after filling up the fuel tank to full. I don't lose accessories or anything, I lose engine power. My battery light comes on and my dash says, "battery voltage low put car into park and then desired gear". The car will start up after the excess fuel in the engine is burned off which can take a few tries. It will buck like it wants to stall out or it dies again completely while I'm driving. This is a very dangerous situation to be driving down the road to have the vehicle suddenly stall out. The vehicle will continue to stall until the fuel hits a certain level in the tank.
Every time I fill the fuel tank and start driving the car dies, lurches or drops out of gear. I get a message on the instrument display that I cannot shift without a compete stop (I did not shift) It's in drive but will not move. This is dangerous as it gets me to the middle of an intersection and its dead. I know this sounds crazy but it's a repeatable problem. And apparently, I'm not the only one.
At a stoplight or red light, the car will sometimes start revving up, like it wants to go, while my foot is on the brake. The check engine light will then come on, and It'll then come up with a notification on the dash saying "Shift to P then desired gear". The photo is also attached. This is very annoying, as it happens while driving too. When it comes up during driving, when you press the gas, it will not go any faster and starts slowing down. This is dangerous and needs fixed. Took it to the garage, and they couldn't figure out what is happening, even with the check engine light!
When trying to fuel the vehicle, the pump continually shuts off. Jeep repaired this once while under warranty, but it has happened a second time and an internet search confirms this is a known issue. It could be an issue with the evap hose design. The safety concern is the rate at which fuel is added to the tank. With this issue, the flow rate has to be reduced enough to allow the fumes to escape through the down flow spout which is a fire hazard if there are any sparks. At the lower flow rate, it's easy to overflow the tank as it's the only way to bypass the automatic shutoff.
I am the sole owner of 2014 Jeep Cherokee Trailhawk. No miles when purchased. All recalls were kept up, all oil changes were made and vehicle has been taken care of. Without warning, my jeep started not excepting fuel or verily at all. Jeep was taken to the local dealership, that sold me the jeep. The air line that allows for vapor locking was completely filled with sediment and mud. After investigation by the dealer they the line had allowed for sediment and mud to overflow into the gas tank line, plugging it. I am now looking at a $2,000 repair bill to replace the air line and my gas tank as there is no way according to the dealer to get the sediment out because of the blockages. The air line and tank are in line with the back wheel well so it is poor manufacturing placement for this on the jeep and even if I do fix it, it will do it again in the future because of the way it was built. No warning lights, no recalls or help so from the Jeep company. Fortunately in my case I was not traveling and was within distance of the dealer otherwise it would have left me and my family stranded.
The fuel tank has an abnormal amount of seepage. When filling with 87 octane gasoline, intermittently shortly after filling, the cars engine will completely stall while in motion. Also afterwards it may have trouble starting or be unable to start at all until waiting many minutes.

The contact stated that the vehicle would intermittently stall after refueling with the "shift vehicle into neutral" warning message displayed on the instrument panel. The contact took the vehicle to an independent mechanic who discovered that raw fuel would enter the charcoal canister due to a defective liquid air separator located on top of the fuel tank. The contact was also informed that the separator could not be replaced separately, and the entire fuel tank would need to be replaced. The manufacturer had been notified of the failure on two occasions and a complaint was filed. The vehicle had yet to be repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 96,000.
After filling the vehicle up with fuel there is a good chance the you will experience shutter, stalling or even have engine failure. This has happen in the filling station parking lot and in main traffic. Luckily I live in a small city and have been able to move to safety when it has happened..
Gas cap warning light. The night it appeared, got gas filled up the car gas tank. Put cap back on tank , pulled out drove approx. 1/4 mile car completely shut down at a red light and has several times. I ask dealership about it. They cleared code. Said I could buy a new cap I did. Did not help. Have it at mechanics today for testing. He thought there was a recall for this problem but I did not find one.
2014 Cherokee Limited with a 2.4L I am the original owner, and have had all services done. Car is in good shape. This is now a persistent problem each time I refuel. Within a few minutes or miles, the car engine will stall, tell me that I have to put the car in Park to restart. This is extremely dangerous and has happened to me in the middle of intersections or driving down a street. I fill the tank, I don't overfill it. When the pump clicks off, I am done and don't add more. Then I drive off and for about 5-10 minutes, I am at risk of the car stalling. I have had it happen while driving, and more often when I stop at a light. It will restart. But this happens ONLY after I refill the tank.

FILLED UP GAS TANK AND WHILE DRIVING VEHICLE KEPT TRYING TO STALL.
AFTER HITTING 50K MILES ON MY VEHICLE I NOTICED FOLLOWING FUELING IT WILL BEGIN TO SHUDDER AND RPM'S WILL GO OUT OF WACK. THEN RPM DROPS AND CAR WILL GIVE NOTICE "SHIFT TO P THEN DESIRED GEAR" MESSAGE. OTHER LIGHTS WILL LITE UP AND BATTERY LITE STAYS LIT WHEN THIS MESSAGE IS GIVEN. (I HAVE A NEW BATTERY SO IT CAN NOT BE DUE TO A BAD ONE.) THE CAR WILL THEN STALL AND STOP. THIS HAS HAPPENED BOTH WHEN STOPPED AT INTERSECTIONS AND WHILE IN MOTION AND DRIVING ESPECIALLY AT LOWER SPEEDS. IS A HAZARD AS HAPPENS QUICKLY AND NO WARNING SO CAN NOT PULL OVER. HAVE TO PUT CAR IN PARK AND RESTART. THIS WILL CONTINUE TO HAPPEN UNTIL TANK IS DOWN TO ABOUT 3/4 FULL. I DO NOT OVER FILL THE TANK. HAD TAKEN TO DEALERSHIP AND THEY SAID THEY COULD NOT DETECT ANY PROBLEMS. NO MESSAGES WERE GIVEN TO THEM DURING THE CHECK. THIS IS VERY FRUSTRATING AND A HAZARD ON THE ROAD WHEN YOU HAVE CARS BEHIND YOU THAT HAVE TO STOP SUDDENLY. I AM AFRAID TO DRIVE MY CAR AFTER FILLING UP WITH GAS FOR FEAR IT WILL STOP IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD AND I WILL BE INJURED IN A REAR END COLLISION IF CAR BEHIND ME IS NOT PAYING ATTENTION. THIS HAS BEEN HAPPENING FOR MANY MONTHS NOW. EVERY TIME I FILL MY VEHICLE UP WITH GAS AND I DO NOT OVERFILL. I STOP AT THE FIRST "CLICK" WHEN PUMPING. THIS SHOULD MAKE FOR AN EASY RECALL TO REPAIR THIS PROBLEM BEFORE IT BECOMES MORE SERIOUS THAN IT IS RIGHT NOW WITH SOMEONE REALLY GETTING INJURED OR WORSE! I SHOULD NOT HAVE TO BE FEARFUL OF MY OWN VEHICLE.

CHECK ENGINE LIGHT GAVE A CODE P0520 SO AN OIL PRESSURE SWITCH WAS INSTALLED AND A FRONT CRANK SEAL SO THAT WAS REPLACED AT VEHICLE MILEAGE 51,722. 2014 TRAILHAWK STILL LEAKING OIL SO OIL PAN GASKET REPAIRED. STILL LEAKING OIL SO DIFFERENT MECHANIC ORDERED AN OIL FILTER HOUSIN COMPONENT TO FIX. HE SAID MANY OIL FILTER HOUSINGS IN JEEP CHEROKEES HAVE HAD THESE REPLACED!! SMELLED OIL WHILE DRIVING AND SAW OIL DROPS ON GARAGE FLOOR. THESE OIL FILTER HOUSINGS SHOULD BE RECALLED AND I SHOULD BE REIMBURSED. I'VE SPENT OVER $1500 TO FIX AN OIL LEAK BECAUSE MECHANICS MISDIAGNOSED. DEALERSHIP MECHANICS SHOULD BE AWARE OF THESE INFERIOR PARTS!

VEHICLE WAS TAKEN INTO SHOP FOR A REPAIR. I WAS INFORMED BY THE SHOP THE GAS TANK IS LEAKING INTO THE ENGINE AND CAUSING THE POOR PERFORMANCE.

THE FUEL PUMP AND CANISTER WERE REPLACED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE FUEL PUMP AND CANISTER WERE REPLACED BY THE PREVIOUS OWNER IN 2019. THE CONTACT STATED THAT PREVIOUSLY WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS FILLED WITH FUEL, THE VEHICLE STALLED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT HIS DAUGHTER PARKED AND LEFT THE VEHICLE RUNNING TO BURN FUEL TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE WITHOUT ISSUES. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE FUEL TANK NEEDED TO BE AT A HALF OR TANK TO PREVENT THE VEHICLE FROM STALLING. THE CONTACT REFERENCED MANUFACTURER TSB: S1814000002 AS THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE AND A CASE WAS OPENED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS UNKNOWN.

ATTEMPTING TO FILL GAS TANK AT GAS STATION. GAS TANK AT ABOUT 1/4 FULL. GAS PUMP REPEATEDLY SHUTS OFF WHILE FILLING ABOUT EVERY 0.1 GALLON. IT TAKES 10-15 MINUTES TO FILL THE TANK. THIS FIRST HAPPENED JANUARY 2020 BUT PROBLEM WENT AWAY AFTER SEVERAL FILL UPS. I HAVE THE PROBLEM AGAIN IN SEPTEMBER 2020. STILL HAPPENING. I LIVE IN NORTHWEST OHIO.
CAR STALLS OUT WHILE DRIVING AFTER FILLING GAS TANK (NOT TOPPING IT OFF). TRANSMISSION LIGHT COMES ON, ALL WARNINGS COME ON, AND CAR LOCKS UP. SOMETIMES YOU CANNOT PUT IT IN GEAR, AND THE STEERING WHEEL LOCKS UP. IT WILL SAY "SHIFT TO PARK," BUT YOU CANNOT ALWAYS DO THAT. SOMETIMES WHEN IT STALLS IT WILL STILL BE RUNNING, BUT WILL JUST GO OUT OF GEAR. THIS IS A KNOWN PROBLEM, AND CHRYSLER WILL NOT DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT. YESTERDAY, I WAS NEARLY REAR-ENDED THREE TIMES ON AN INTERSTATE IN ATLANTA WHEN MY CAR SUDDENLY STALLED WHILE I WAS IN MOTION. HERE IS WHAT ONE MECHANIC SAID: YOUR VEHICLE HAS AN ISSUE WITH VENTILATION FROM THE FUEL PUMP, THE GAS HAS NOWHERE ELSE TO GO BUT GET SUCKED UP TOWARDS THE ENGINE. THE PUMP IS FAILING, THE CHARCOAL CANISTER IS FULL OF FUEL, THE EVAP SYSTEM INTEGRITY MODULE IS FULL OF FUEL AND THE PURGE IS PUSHING FUEL INTO THE INTAKE WHICH IS DROWNING THE MOTOR AND SHUTTING IT OFF. HE SAID IT IS EXTREMELY DANGEROUS TO DRIVE, AND THAT HE HAS SEEN THIS WITH THE EXACT MAKE AND MODEL OF THE CAR. I AM TERRIFIED TO DRIVE MY CAR, AND IT ONLY HAS 36,000 MILES ON IT. I, OR SOMEONE ELSE, WILL BE KILLED BECAUSE OF THIS ISSUE. THIS STARTED WHILE THE CAR WAS STILL UNDER WARRANTY, AND IT TOOK OVER A YEAR TO FIGURE OUT WHAT WAS GOING ON. WE HAVE SINCE CALLED CHRYSLER EVERY DAY TO SPEAK TO A SUPERVISOR, AND NO ONE WILL RETURN OUR CALLS. THEY REFUSE TO ACKNOWLEDGE THE SITUATION, THE SEVERITY OF THE SITUATION, AND OUR CONCERNS. THEY SAID TO CONTACT YOU.
AFTER I FILL UP MY GAS TANK, THE CAR WILL STALL WHEN SLOWING (LESS THAN 30 MPH) OR IDLING MULTIPLE TIMES OVER THE FIRST SEVERAL MILES OF DRIVING. THE CAR STARTS SHUDDERING, THE ENGINE LIGHT COMES ON, IT STALLS, SAYS TO SHIFT TO PARK, AND THEN REQUIRES A RESTART. SOMETIMES IT WILL NOT GO INTO GEAR AND EVERYTHING SEIZES UP, INCLUDING THE STEERING WHEEL. SOMETIMES A NOTIFICATION COMES ON ABOUT THE TRANSMISSION AND ALL OTHER COMPONENTS BEING INOPERABLE. IT ONLY HAPPENS AFTER FILLING UP MY TANK - IF I DON'T FILL MY TANK ALL THE WAY, IT DOES NOT HAPPEN. NOTE THAT I DO NOT "TOP OFF" MY GAS - I STOP WHEN THE PUMP STOPS. IT IS REALLY SCARY AND REALLY DANGEROUS, AS I STALLED OUT ON A MERGING INTERSTATE RAMP AND THEN ON THE INTERSTATE WHEN TRAFFIC SLOWED THIS HAS BEEN HAPPENING SINCE JUNE 2019.
A FEW DAYS AFTER PURCHASING THIS VEHICLE I WAS SLOWING DOWN TO ENTER A TRAFFIC CIRCLE WHEN THE CAR STARTED JERKING AND THE CAR COMPLETELY SHUT DOWN. I HAD TO PUT IT PACK IN PARK AND RE-START, THIS DID NOT HAPPEN QUICKLY. LUCKY, THE CAR BEHIND ME WAS PATIENT. THIS COULD HAVE CAUSED A SERIOUS ACCIDENT AND NEEDS TO BE ADDRESSED.
WHEN I FILL UP THE TANK IT IRKS AND SHUTS OFF. VERY SCARY AND DANGEROUS.
I HAVE HAD MY VEHICLE ALMOST TWO YEARS. WITHIN THE LAST FOUR MONTHS I BEGAN HAVING ISSUES WHEN I WOULD GO TO PUMP GAS. THE NOZZLE AT THE GAS STATION BEGAN TO SHUT OFF REPEATEDLY. IT ACTS AS IF THE VEHICLE IS FULL REGARDLESS OF HOW MUCH GAS IS IN THE TANK. I HAVE BEEN TO DIFFERENT GAS STATIONS AND TRIED DIFFERENT WAYS OF PUMPING MY GAS ALL WITH THE SAME PROBLEM. I HAVE TAKEN MY VEHICLE TO TWO MECHANICS NOW WHO HAVE IDENTIFIED THE PROBLEM TO BE THE FUEL TANK. I HAVE DONE RESEARCH AND FOUND A LOT OF FELLOW OWNERS OF 2014 JEEP CHEROKEE TRAILHAWKS TO ALSO HAVE THIS PROBLEM. I AM OUT OF MY MANUFACTURER'S WARRANTY AND THE EXTENDED COVERAGE I PURCHASED FOR THE VEHICLE COVERS EVERY ASPECT OF THE FUELING SYSTEM EXCEPT THE TANK. I FIND THAT TO BE QUITE ODD. IN FACT, THE COMPANY DOES NOT OFFER ANY TYPE OF COVERAGE THAT WOULD COVER THE FUEL TANK ITSELF. IT TAKES ME AROUND 20 MINUTES OR SO TO FILL MY GAS TANK AND THAT IS A MERE ESTIMATE BECAUSE THERE IS NO WAY OTHER THAN GUESSING AT THIS POINT TO KNOW WHEN THE TANK IS FULL. IS THIS SOMETHING JEEP OWNERS ARE GOING TO HAVE TO ENDURE OR WILL THERE BE A SOLUTION OFFERED? THANK YOU FOR YOUR TIME AND CONSIDERATION.
I PURCHASED THE VEHICLE USED WITH MAYBE 60,000 MILES IN AUGUST 2018 AND WITHIN A FEW MONTHS OF THE PURCHASE, ON DECEMBER 24 2018, THE CAR JERKED THEN STALLED OUT WHILE I WAS DRIVING ON A NEIGHBORHOOD STREET. THE MESSAGE BOARD GAVE A TRANSMISSION ERROR AND SAID TO PUT THE CAR IN PARK AND RESTART. AFTER RESTARTING, THE VEHICLE DID NOT DRIVE WELL (HARD TO STEER, ACCELERATE). HAD IT TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP, WHERE THEY DID SOME WORK ON THE TRANSMISSION. IN NOVEMBER 2019, JUST AFTER REFUELING, THE VEHICLE LOST POWER WHILE I WAS AT A BUSY TRAFFIC LIGHT DURING RUSH HOUR. I RESTARTED THE CAR AND IT DID NOT HAVE ANY ISSUE AFTER THAT. IN JANUARY 2020, I REFUELED MY CAR, DROVE MAYBE 10 MILES AND THE CAR STARTED LOSING POWER AGAIN AT A BUSY STOP LIGHT IN A LARGE HIGHWAY INTERSECTION. THIS TIME THE CAR JERKED, THEN I GOT THE SAME TRANSMISSION ERROR AS THE FIRST TIME. I TURNED THE CAR OFF THEN ON, AND I WAS ABLE TO LIMP TO MY JOB (SAME DIFFICULT STEERING AND ACCELERATION). TOOK IT TO THE DEALERSHIP WHERE THEY ADDRESSED A RECALL ISSUE (TRANSMISSION SOFTWARE) AND A CHECK ENGINE LIGHT (OIL PRESSURE SENSOR). IN MARCH 2020, JUST AFTER REFUELING THE VEHICLE, IT STARTED LOSING POWER AT A RED LIGHT. IT DIDN'T FULLY LOSE POWER BEFORE I MADE IT TO MY HOUSE AND HAD IT TOWED. NOW THAT I'VE MADE THE CONNECTION BETWEEN REFUELING AND POWER LOSS, THE DEALERSHIP HAS REALIZED THAT THERE IS A FAULTY VALVE OR SENSOR CAUSING GAS TO LEAK INTO PLACES IT SHOULDN'T. IT LOOKS LIKE IT'S COMMON ISSUE, AND IT'S HONESTLY VERY UNSAFE SINCE THE VEHICLE LOSES POWER AS YOU ARE DRIVING!!!

WHEN GOING TO REFILL THE GAS TANK, THE FUEL PUMP WOULD STOP AFTER VERY LITTLE FUEL HAD BEEN PUMPED INTO THE TANK, AS IF IT WERE VAPOR LOCK. I TRIED SEVERAL DIFFERENT FUEL PUMPS AT SEVERAL DIFFERENT GAS STATIONS, TO RULE OUT THE PUMP BEING THE PROBLEM. I TOOK THE JEEP INTO THE DEALER AND HAVE BEEN TOLD THERE ARE NO BLOCKAGES, BUT TO FIX THE PROBLEM THE FUEL SPOUT AND THE TANK NEED TO BE REPLACED. AFTER LOOKING INTO THIS ONLINE, I WAS FLOORED TO SEE MANY OTHER PEOPLE HAVE HAD THIS ISSUE. MY JEEP HAS LESS THAN 80,000 MILES ON IT, AND HAS BEEN WELL TAKEN CARE OF AND SERVICED CORRECTLY. FOR A 5 YEAR OLD CAR WITH 80K MILES ON IT, I FIND IT INEXCUSABLE TO HAVE TO REPLACE A FUEL TANK AND SPOUT FOR A FAULTY IN EITHER DESIGN, OR BAD PARTS.
I WAS AT THE GAS STATION FILLING UP WHEN THE GAS PUMP HANDLE WOULD NOT ALLOW GAS TO FLOW INTO THE TANK UNLESS IT WAS AT A GREATLY REDUCED FLOW. THE AUTO STOP FEATURE OF THE GAS PUMP HANDLE DID NOT WORK AT LOW FLOW AND THE GAS SPILLED ALL OVER THE SIDE OF THE VEHICLE AND ONTO THE CONCRETE AREA CREATING A FIRE HAZARD. THE DEALERSHIP HAS SINCE TOLD ME THAT THE CAR MAY HAVE A DEFECTIVE VALVE. THIS PROBLEM GOES BACK TO THE YEAR 2012 AND HAS NOT BEEN ADDRESSED. THIS IS EVIDENCED BY A SIMPLE WEB SEARCH. THE SPILLAGE OF GAS IS A FIRE AND ENVIRONMENTAL HAZARD.

IT IS CONCERNING THAT BY FILLING UP TANK, CAR WILL STALL. THIS PAST EVENT WAS WHILE I WAS TRYING TO MERGE ONTO INTERSTATE AND COULD NOT ACCELERATE WHICH LEFT ME IN BETWEEN TWO LANES WHERE THOSE LANES WERE AT HIGHWAY SPEED. WAS ABLE TO LIMP TO THE SHOULDER TO PUT IN PARK AND THEN BACK IN DRIVE (WHAT THE CAR INFORMATION SYSTEM WAS TELLING ME TO DO). MY VEHICLE HAS BEEN IN THE SHOP 5 DIFFERENT TIMES THE MONTH OF NOVEMBER.2 FUEL INJECTOR'S, VAPOR CANISTER AND FUEL TANK - WITH POTENTIAL FUEL PUMP NEXT. I AM DISSATISFIED WITH THIS VEHICLE FOR THIS ON TOP OF MANY BLIND SPOTS IN VEHICLE.

DEALERSHIP SAID THEY CALLED FCA AND WAS TOLD THERE WAS PROBLEMS WITH ROLLOVER VENT VALVE CAUSING IT SO STICK OPEN (CAUSING FUEL TO GET INTO VAPOR SYSTEM. ONLY FIX AT THIS POINT WAS TO REPLACE THE FUEL TANK. STALLING INDICATIONS HAPPEN AS SOON AS FOOT IS REMOVED FROM ACCELERATOR (WHETHER COASTING OR WHILE STOPPED. BATTERY LIGHT WILL COME ON AND DASH BOARD WILL ADVISE TO PUT CAR IN PARK AND THEN BACK IN GEAR. SOMETIMES, IT REQUIRES TURNING THE IGNITION AGAIN TO GET CAR MOVING AGAIN. IF COASTING ON INTERSTATE, THIS MAKES FOR A DANGEROUS SITUATION OF CAR NOT RESPONDING TO PICK UP SPEED DURING STOP AND GO TRAFFIC. DOCUMENTATION IS SERVICE TICKETS FOR BOTH VAPOR CANISTER REPLACEMENT AS WELL AS FUEL TANK REPLACEMENT.

SIX WEEKS LATER ON DEC 4TH 2018 AFTER FILLING THE TANK, IT HAPPENED A SECOND TIME; THE CAR STALLED COMPLETELY AS I WAS MAKING A LEFT-TURN AT AN INTERSECTION IN BUSY LOS ANGELES TRAFFIC, PUTTING ME AT RISK OF A COLLISION. I MANAGED TO PUT THE CAR INTO PARK, THEN DRIVE AND SPUTTERED THROUGH THE INTERSECTION. AGAIN, THE PROBLEM RESOLVED AFTER A FEW MILES' DRIVING TO THE JEEP SERVICE CENTER AND SO I AGAIN REFUSED REPAIR. HAD TO STOP AND AT LIGHT CAR STALLED AND DASH READ SAME AS ABOVE..THIS HAPPENED WHEN I STOPPED AT WORK AND WHEN I WAS DRIVING TO DEALER HAPPENED BOTH TIMES I NEEDED TO STOP AND SAME WHEN I PULLED UNDER THE SERVICE AREA AT THE DEALER..DEALER SAID THERE WAS AN ISSUE WITH FUEL SYSTEM..THE PROBLEM IS THE VAPOR/LIQUID SEPARATOR VALVE LOCATED AT THE TOP OF THE FUEL TANK. THE VALVE IS DESIGNED TO PREVENT LIQUID FUEL FROM ENTERING THE CHARCOAL CANISTER/EMISSIONS SYSTEM. WHEN THE VALVE FAILS, LIQUID GAS CAN ENTER THE LINE AND FILL THE CHARCOAL CANISTER. AFTER REFUELING THE PCM ON THE VEHICLE DETECTS A CHANGE IN FUEL LEVEL. THEN, WHEN THE ENGINE MEETS CERTAIN TEMPERATURE AND DRIVING CRITERIA, THE PCM ISSUES A PURGE COMMAND TO THE CHARCOAL CANISTER TO REMOVE THE STORED GAS VAPORS. IT'S AT THAT POINT THAT ALL THE LIQUID GAS IN THE LINE GETS SUCKED INTO THE CHARCOAL CANISTER. THE PCM EXPECTS TO SEE GAS VAPORS ENTERING THE INTAKE MANIFOLD AND IT IS PREPARED TO ADJUST AIR/FUEL MIXTURES TO COMPENSATE. HOWEVER, IT IS NOT PREPARED TO SEE LIQUID GAS COMING INTO THE INTAKE. THAT'S WHAT CAUSES THE ENGINE TO STALL. THIS SEEMS TO BE A COMMON PROBLEM, SHOULD BE A RECALL IN MY OPINION. I CAN EITHER PAY $1,700 FOR A NEW SYSTEM... AND IS THE NEW FUEL PUMP REDESIGNED? FEB 07, 2019: DRIVING AROUND 55MPH, VEHICLE LOST ALL POWER. NO LIGHTS CAME ON BUT VEHICLE SHUT DOWN. AFTER FIVE MINUTES, WAS ABLE TO RESTART IT. 3. FEB 7, 2019: TURNING RIGHT, VEHICLE LURCHED AND SKIDDED. 4. FEB 08, 2019: FILLED GAS TANK, PULLED AWAY FROM PUMPS. VEHICLE LOST POWER, SHUT DOWN

TRYING TO PUMP GAS AND THE PUMP WON'T LET ME PUMP GAS INTO THE GAS TANK
REFUELING SYSTEM - DURING REFUELING, SOMETHING IN THAT PROCESS CONTINUES TO CUT OFF, ACTING AS THOUGH THE TANK IS FULL. WE KNOW THIS IS NOT THE CASE AS WE DRIVE 200 MILES PER WEEK ROUND TRIP TO WORK. THIS HAPPENS NO MATTER WHICH GAS STATION WE FILL UP AT. THIS HAS ALSO HAPPENED TO OUR BROTHER-IN-LAWS VEHICLE. STILL PENDING TO BE FIXED AS HOPEFULLY, IT IS UNDER OUR WARRANTY.
WHILE DRIVING VEHICLE ON RURAL 2 LANE ROAD AT 40-60 MPH SEEMS TO SHIFT INTO NEUTRAL, AND TRACTION CONTROL LIGHT COMES ON. AFTER LETTING OFF THROTTLE AND RPM'S COME DOWN IT GOES BACK IN TO GEAR AND CAN THEN DRIVE ON. IT SOMETIMES HAPPENS SEVERAL TIMES WITHIN A COUPLE MINUTES THEN SEEMS FINE.
AFTER FILLING THE GAS TANK, ALLOWING NOZZLE TO CLICK OFF ONLY ONCE, THE CAR RUNS FOR A MINUTE OR SO THEN STALLS, MISS FIRES, AND IS HARD TO RESTART. IT HAS DIED ON THE INTERSTATE ON A FEW OCCASIONS, MAKING IT VERY UNSAFE . THIS ALSO HAPPENS ON CITY STREETS, STALLING IN TRAFFIC. THIS HAS OCCURRED AT LEAST 12-15 TIMES IN THE LAST 3 YEARS.
WHILE DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY AT 60 MPH OUR 2014 JEEP UNEXPECTEDLY SHIFTED INTO NEUTRAL AND LOST POWER. THE DASH INDICATED THE LOSS OF POWER BY STATING RPM'S ARE FALLING AND THE LIGHTS ON THE DASH FLASHED ON / OFF. FORTUNATELY OUR DAUGHTER WAS ABLE TO MAKE IT TO AN EXIT RAMP AND PULL OFF SAFELY. I UNDERSTAND THERE IS A RECALL IN PLACE FOR THIS PROBLEM.
I AM EXPERIENCING A PROGRESSIVE MILD JERK WHEN ACCELERATING. I FEELS LIKE SOMETHING IS SKIPPING AND OR MISSING...... TIMING IS OFF... I WILL TAKE MY CAR FOR A SERVICE NEXT WEEK.
I FILLED MY GAS TANK UP, DROVE IT ABOUT A MILE DOWN THE ROAD, PULLED INTO MY PARKING SPOT, AND THE BRAKES AND STEERING WHEEL LOCKED. ON THE SCREEN IS SAID 'PRESS BRAKE AND PUT INTO GEAR'. THE BREAKS WERE LOCKED AND IT WAS ALREADY IN DRIVE TO I PUT IT IN PARK AND TURNED THE VEHICLE OFF AND BACK ON. I WAS ABLE TO FINISH PULLING INTO MY PARKING SPOT AND IT SEEMED TO BE FINE. MY HUSBAND GOT INTO THE CAR AND EVERYTHING SEEMED TO BE OKAY WITH IT AND HE DECIDED TO DRIVE IT RIGHT DOWN THE ROAD AND SEE WHAT WAS GOING ON WITH IT. ABOUT 3 MILES DOWN THE ROAD, HE WAS GOING THE SPEED LIMIT, 45 MPH, AND THE ENTIRE VEHICLE COMES TO A STOP IN THE MIDDLE OF AN INTERSECTION, THE BRAKES LOCK, THE STEERING WHEEL LOCKS AND THE ENGINE CUT OFF AND THE SCREEN SAID SERVICE TRANSMISSION AND THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. WE HAD IT TOWED TO THE JEEP DEALERSHIP AND THEY SAID THE CODE WAS FOR A FUEL PUMP. WE WERE TOLD THIS WAS CURRENTLY UNDER INVESTIGATION AND WAS A BIG ISSUE WITH THESE MODELS. THEY SAID IT NEEDS A NEW FUEL PUMP AND EVAC SYSTEM.
AFTER FUELING UP AND PLACING THE VEHICLE IN PARK; DURING IDLE, THE JEEP THEN BEGINS TO SHAKE. THE RPM NEEDLE DROPS SUDDENLY THEN JUMPS RIGHT BACK UP. NO WARNING LIGHT TURNS ON.
MY JEEP BUCKS AND THEN STALLS OUT EVERY TIME I FILL IT UP WITH GAS. WHETHER I AM DRIVING 10 MPH OR 75 MPH. I THEN FIND OUT THAT THIS I ACTUALLY A COMMON ISSUE AMONGST JEEPS AND HAS YET TO BE RECALLED. I AM LIVID AND TERRIFIED OF DRIVING MY CAR NOW. I NEED THIS HANDLED AND PAID FOR IMMEDIATELY . HOW CAN A CAR COMPANY WILLINGLY HAVE PEOPLE IN UNSAFE SITUATIONS LIKE THIS AND NOT FIX IT ! I AM SO ANGRY AND SO SHAKEN UP .
AT AROUND 50,000 MILES, THE CHECK VALVE ON THE FUEL TANK FILLER TUBE MALFUNCTIONED. THIS MALFUNCTION CAUSED FUEL FILL NOZZLES AT THE GAS STATION TO AUTOMATICALLY STOP AND IT WAS VERY DIFFICULT TO FILL THE TANK. THE JEEP DEALERSHIP DIAGNOSED THIS ISSUE AS A CHECK VALVE AND THE ONLY SOLUTION TO THE ISSUE WAS REPLACING THE ENTIRE FUEL TANK. I HAD TO PAY OUT OF POCKET EXPENSES TO REPLACE THE ENTIRE FUEL TANK.
THE VEHICLE'S GAS TANK HAS STOPPED WORKING PROPERLY. WHEN I TRY TO FILL IT UP, IT ALMOST IMMEDIATELY STOPS THE PUMP AND USUALLY SHOOT GAS BACK OUT ALL OVER ME HAND AND CLOTHES. I AM ABLE TO GET VERY SMALL AMOUNTS OF GAS IN THE TANK, BUT NOT WITHOUT GETTING GAS SPILLED EVERYWHERE. THIS APPEARS TO BE A MAJOR SAFETY/FIRE HAZARD. MY LOCAL JEEP DEALER FIRST SAID THEY COULD NOT DIAGNOSE THE PROBLEM AND LATER SAID THAT I NEEDED A NEW FUEL TANK AND THAT IT WOULD COST ABOUT $1200 PLUS. I THEN CALLED CHRYSLER TO REPORT THE PROBLEM TO SEE IF THEY WOULD VOLUNTARILY FIX IT. TOO SAY THAT IT WAS AN UNPLEASANT EXPERIENCE DEALING WITH THEIR CUSTOMER SERVICE REPRESENTATIVES WOULD BE AN UNDERSTATEMENT. CHRYSLER SAID THAT SINCE MY VEHICLE WAS A 2014 JEEP CHEROKEE, THAT IT WAS MY PROBLEM AND THEY WOULD NOT REPLACE MY GAS TANK. THEY DID NOT APPEAR TO CARE THAT GAS GETTING ALL OVER MY HANDS AND CLOTHES WAS DANGEROUS.
AFTER REFILLING FUEL, THE CAR TURNED OFF WHILE DRIVING ALMOST CAUSING AN ACCIDENT. THIS PARTICULAR CAR REQUIRES THE SYSTEM TO BE PLACED IN PARK TO RESTART. DEALER LOOKED INTO THEIR SYSTEM AND DISCOVERED TSB TO REPLACE CANISTER AND FUEL PUMP.
THE TECHNICIAN STATED THAT THE GAS TANK "WENT BAD". UNABLE TO FUEL VEHICLE. SAID THIS HAS HAPPENED TO SEVERAL JEEP CHEROKEE MODELS. RECURRING PROBLEM. LARGE COST TO REPLACE. SAFETY HAZARD WHEN FILLING AND POSSIBLE MAJOR SAFETY HAZARD WHEN DRIVING. PRESSURE ISSUES INSIDE TANK.

AFTER OWNING THE CAR FOR APPROXIMATELY 1 YEAR, I SUDDENLY SMELLED GASOLINE WHILE DRIVING AND NOTICED THE CAR WAS HARD TO START. TURNS OUT THE FUEL PUMP UNIT HAS A CRACK IN THE TOP WHICH IS CAUSING THE PROBLEM. I AM PRESENTLY AWAITING THE $650 PART AND THE CAR WILL BE REPAIRED NEXT WEEK ($190 LABOR). THE THING IS, I WAS INITIALLY TOLD BY MY REPUTABLE CAR REPAIR SHOP OWNER THAT HE HAS SEEN THIS PROBLEM SEVERAL TIMES OVER AND IS PRETTY SURE THERE IS A RECALL AGAINST IT, THUS NO INITIAL CHARGE. FOR WHATEVER THE REASON, I HAVE NOT BEEN ABLE TO FIND ANOTHER REPORTED INCIDENT OF THIS SPECIFIC NATURE. NONETHELESS, THIS IS A POTENTIAL SAFETY ISSUE AND IS WHY I AM REPORTING IT (IN ADDITION TO HAVING TO SPEND $840 TO REPAIR THE PROBLEM).

BROUGHT CAR TO DEALSHIP AND EXPLAINED THAT OIL LEVEL WAS LOW AND NEEDED TO BE CHANGED. THIS WAS 2000 MILE AWAY FROM THE RECOMMENDED 5000 MILE OIL CHANGE. CAR OIL CHANGED AND DIAGNOSTIC CODE CLEARED AND THE SAME ISSUE HAPPENED AGAIN 2000 MILES AWAY FROM THE 5000 MILE RECCOMEND OIL CHANGE. ISSUE IS REPETITIVE FOR ABOUT 5 TIMES IN 3 YEARS.

THE EVAPORATOR CONTROL CANISTER WAS REPLACED AND THE PURGE CONTROL WAS REPROGRAMMED, BUT THE FAILURE PERSISTED. THE CONTACT INDICATED THAT THE FAILURES OCCURRED ONLY AFTER THE FUEL TANK WAS FILLED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURES. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 47,000. *TT *TR

THE MANUFACTURER PROVIDED NO SOLUTION OTHER THAN HAVING THE VEHICLE DIAGNOSED AND REPAIRED BY A DEALER. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS NOT AVAILABLE.
WHEN ATTEMPTING TO FILL THE TANK, LESS THAN 0.25 GALLONS WILL GO INTO THE TANK BEFORE THE PUMP CUTS OFF. AT FIRST WE THOUGHT THE PROBLEM MAY HAVE TO DO WITH THE PUMPS AT THE STATION. SO WE TOOK IT TO OTHER STATIONS TO HAVE THE PROBLEM CONTINUE. THERE HAS BEEN NO CHANGE TO THE SITUATION SINCE IT BEGAN. WHEN WE TOOK THE CAR IN FOR SERVICE AND WERE TOLD A VALVE IN THE TANK HAD FAILED AND THE ENTIRE TANK WOULD HAVE TO BE REPLACED. OTHERS WHO HAVE REPORTED THIS PROBLEM ON LINE HAVE SAID THAT REPLACING THE TANK IS NOT A GUARANTEE OF ELIMINATING THE PROBLEM. AFTER REPLACING THE TANK, THE PROBLEM REOCCURRED.
THIS STARTED ABOUT A YEAR AGO WHEN MY VEHICLE 2015 JEEP CHEROKEE HAD APX 60000 MILES, WHEN I FILL MY GAS TANK I NEED TO TRICKLE THE FUEL IN. I WENT TO THE DEALER AND THEY SAID I NEEDED TO REPLACE THE FUEL TANK AND IT WAS NOT UNDER WARRANTY. THE FUEL TANK WAS ON BACK ORDER AND WOULD BE 2 TO 4 WEEKS. IN THE MEAN TIME THE PROBLEM WENT AWAY BEFORE THE BACK ORDERED TANK CAME IN. NOTE THE DEALER NEVER DID CALL WHEN THE PART CAME IN IF IT DID. I DID NOT HAVE THE TANK REPLACE THIS LASTED APX 6 MONTHS UNTIL THE PROBLEM STARTED AGAIN. THIS SOUNDS LIKE A MANUFACTURERS DEFECT, THAT IS DANGEROUS (SPILLED FUEL), ENVIRONMENTALLY BAD AND WASTEFUL. I HAVE SPOKEN TO OTHER JEEP OWNERS WITH THE SAME PROBLEM AND HAVE HEAR ABOUT THE SAME PROBLEM FROM SEVERAL EMPLOYEES AT THE GAS STATIONS I HAVE USED. I WOULD UNDERSTAND IF THERE WAS A WEARABLE PART INVOLVED, BUT WHAT CAN WEAR OUT ON A FUEL TANK IN 60000 MILES AND 2.5 YEARS. I BELIEVE THIS SHOULD BE A JEEP RECALL AND SHOULD BE COVERED BY JEEP.

CRACK OCCURRED DURING COLD WEATHER AND WAS 9 MONTHS AFTER OIL CHANGE (NOT RELATED TO OVER TOURQING OF FILTER HOUSING). 100S OF COMPLAINTS LOGGED ONLINE FOR THE SAME ISSUE ON THIS ENGINE. NEEDS TO BE RECALLED. THEY REFUSE TO COVER VIA 100K POWERTRAIN WARRANTY.

I TOOK THE CAR TO THE DEALERSHIP AND JEEP STATED THEY BELIEVED THAT THE ROLL OVER VALVE HAD MALFUNCTIONED CAUSING IT TO STICK AND THAT THE GAS TANK NEEDED REPLACEMENT. I SPECIFICALLY ASKED THE CAUSE OF THIS TYPE OF ISSUE AND THE SERVICE MANAGER STATED IT "SOMETIMES JUST HAPPENS" AND CONFIRMED MULTIPLE TIMES IT WAS "NO FORM OF MISSED MAINTENANCE" THAT IT "JUST HAPPENS". UPON FURTHER INSPECTION AND MECHANICAL REVIEW, THE TANK DOESN'T CONTAIN THE VALVE ITSELF, THE FUEL PUMP CONTAINS THE VALVE WHICH SOMEHOW JUST GOT "STUCK" IN TURN MAKING THE VEHICLE THINK IT HAD ROLLED OVER, SHUTTING OFF FLOW TO PREVENT FIRES. I HAD THE PUMP REPLACED AND THE CAR IS FUNCTIONING FINE.
I'M NO CAR EXPERT BUT THERE IS SOMETHING SERIOUSLY WRONG AND IT CAN BE EXTREMELY DANGEROUS. EVERY TIME I FILL UP MY JEEP WITH GASOLINE IT STALLS OUT OR STOPS WORKING WHILE I'M DRIVING. IF WE PURPOSELY FUEL THE TANK NO MORE THAN 75%, THE ISSUE DOES NOT OCCUR. EVERY TIME THE TANK IS ALLOWED TO FUEL TO FULL, THE EVENT HAPPENS. AS SPEAKING WITH MY DEALERSHIP IN TEXAS, THEY HAVE ACKNOWLEDGED AN INCREASING AWARENESS OF A RISE IN COMPLAINTS REGARDING THE PATRIOT AND CHEROKEE MODELS. THIS IS AN EXTREMELY DANGEROUS SITUATION WHICH DISABLES THE POWER STEERING AND POWER BRAKES, REGARDLESS OF THE ENVIRONMENT YOU HAVE ENTERED, WHEN THE VEHICLE FAILS. THE FUEL AND VAPOR SEPARATOR LOCATED ON THE TOP OF THE FUEL TANK ASSEMBLY IS APPARENTLY THE CULPRIT. WHEN RAW FUEL IS ALLOWED TO TRAVEL TO THE CHARCOAL CANISTER, THE ON BOARD COMPUTER RECOGNIZES A DIRE SITUATION AND SHUTS DOWN THE ENGINE. I AM AN ASE MASTER MECHANIC AND WORK FOR A LARGE SCHOOL DISTRICT MANAGING THE FLEET. IMAGINE YOUR ELDERLY MOTHER OR GRANDMOTHER FACED WITH THIS SITUATION AN A BUSY HIGHWAY.
3-25-17 - TOMS RIVER, NJ VT - FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM I PURCHASED A JEEP CHEROKEE LATITUDE FROM LESTER GLENN IN TOMS RIVER I HAVE HAD CONSTANT FUELLING ISSUES FOR APX 2 WEEKS NOW. IT STARTED SUDDENLY THE PUMP CLICKS OFF AFTER LESS THE A GALLON HAS BEEN PUMPED LIKE IT IS FULL AND CONTINUES TO CLICK OFF WHILE TRYING TO FULL THE TANK. IT WOULD ALSO SOME TIMES "BURP UP" BEFORE IT WOULD SHUT OFF SPILLING FUEL ON THE SIDE OF THE VEHICLE. TAKING 15-20 MINUTES TO FILL THE TANK. THIS HAS HAPPENED AT SEVERAL DIFFERENCE GAS STATIONS. I WENT TO THE DEALER TO HAVE THIS CHECKED, THEY TOLD ME THE FUEL TANK NEED REPLACED WHICH COST $800.00 PLUS LABOR AND TAXES. THIS IS NOT COVERED UNDER WARRANTY DUE TO THE MILES ON MY CAR (56000). THIS SEEMS TO BE SAFETY ISSUE, AS THE FUEL SPILLS CAUSING BOTH A FIRE AND ENVIRONMENTAL PROBLEM. THIS ALSO SEEMS TO BE A MANUFACTURES DEFECT AS THERE HAS NOT ANY DAMAGE OR MODIFICATIONS TO THE VEHICLE OR FUEL TANK, THE FUEL TANK IS NOT A WEARABLE PARTS AND SHOULD BE COVERED BY JEEP EVEN THOUGH I AN OVER THE MILES.
BROUGHT AT IN FOR JEEP SERVICE 3 TIMES AS IT SHAKES VIOLENTLY, DASHBOARD ENGINE & TRANSMISSION IDIOT LIGHTS TURN ON, CAR STALLS. THE 1ST AND 2ND TIME JEEP CLAIMED IT WAS DUE TO RECALLS NOW THEY BLAME US FOR OVERFILLING TANK. WE ARE ADAMANT THAT WE DID NOT OVERFILL. WHEN GAS TANK WAS FILLED THE PUMP NOZZLE WAS REMOVED WHEN IT CLICKED AND STOPPED. NOW WE ARE TOLD WE NEED A FUEL PUMP MODULE, EMISSION MONITOR, CARBON CANISTER & CELLULOIDS AT OUR EXPENSE OF $1200+. CAR IS UNDER WARRANTY. THIS HAPPENED WHEN SLOWING DOWN AT A LIGHT THE 1ST TIME ON A CITY STREET, PULLING INTO A PARKING SPACE THE 2ND TIME AND PULLING INTO DRIVEWAY 3RD TIME. I CONTEND THAT IF THE FUEL PUMP MODULE WAS NOT FUNCTIONING PROPERLY PERHAPS THIS CREATED A SITUATION THAT WOULD NOT ALLOW THE PROPER VACUUM TO BUILD TO LET THE GAS STATION PUMP KNOW THE TANK WAS FULL. NO GAS SPILLED OUT AT THE PUMP. WE CANNOT HAVE A VEHICLE THAT CANNOT BE FILLED OR THAT WE CAN'T TRUST IS BEING READ CORRECTLY BY THE GAS PUMPS. CALL BACKS FROM CUSTOMER CARE ARE NEARLY NON-EXISTENT. CAR HAS BEEN IN THE JEEP SHOP SINCE FEBRUARY 28TH 2017
WHILE DRIVING MY 2014 JEEP CHEROKEE ON A CITY STREET, THE JEEP WOULD RANDOMLY LOSE POWER AND STOP MOVING. I WOULD BE ACCELERATING AFTER BEING AT A STOP LIGHT AND THE JEEP WOULD LOSE POWER AND STOP MOVING. ALSO, I WOULD BE TURNING THE CORNER AT A STOP LIGHT OR STOP SIGN AND THE JEEP WOULD LOSE POWER AND STOP MOVING. WHEN THIS OCCURRED, I WOULD PLACE THE JEEP INTO PARK AND TURN IT OFF. I WOULD HAVE TO WAIT A MINIMUM OF 5 MINUTES BEFORE IT WOULD RESTART. ONCE IT RESTARTED, I WAS ABLE TO ACCELERATE. I TOOK THE JEEP TO THE DEALERSHIP 4 TIMES BEFORE THEY WERE ABLE TO FIND A PROBABLE PROBLEM. HOWEVER, THIS WAS ONLY AFTER I RE-CREATED THE PROBLEM FOR THEM SINCE THEY WERE UNABLE TO RECREATE IT. THEY THOUGHT THAT THE PROBLEM WAS POSSIBLY A FAILED FUEL PUMP MODULE AND THE CHARCOAL CANISTER SATURATED AND CONTAMINATED WITH RAW FUEL AS A RESULT OF FAULTY FUEL PUMP MODULE.
JUST UNDER 20,000 MILES WENT TO FILL UP WITH GAS AND AS SOON AS I STARTED THE PUMP THE GAS CUTS OFF AS IF I HAD A FULL TANK. I TRIED TILTING THE NOZZLE, PULLING IT OUT A BIT, TRYING TO SLOWLY POUR, ETC AND NOTHING WORKED AT TWO SEPARATE STATIONS. CAN NOT GO WITH THE AUTOMATIC SHUTOFF I RISK OVER FUELING THE VEHICLE IF I TRY TO FILL IT UP ALL THE WAY.
FUEL TANK WILL ONLY TAKE SMALL AMOUNTS OF GAS AT A TIME. GAS BACKS UP IN FUEL NECK AND CAUSES THE PUMP TO SHUT OFF. FUEL GAUGE WILL INDICATE LOW AND TAKES ME OVER 10 MINUTES JUST TO PUT IN 10 GALLONS OF GAS. I HAVE TRIED HOLDING THE NOZZLE AT DIFFERENT ANGLES, DIFFERENT SPEEDS AND TRIED MULTIPLE GAS STATIONS WITH NO SUCCESS. GAS CONTINUES TO BACK UP IN THE FUEL NECK AND OCCASIONALLY PUKES UP GAS OUT OF THE FUEL NECK.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2014 JEEP CHEROKEE. UPON REFUELING THE VEHICLE, FUEL SPEWED OUT OF THE FUEL TANK. THE DEALER DIAGNOSED THAT THE FUEL TANK ASSEMBLY NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE CONTACT WAITED OVER A MONTH AND WAS UNABLE TO DETERMINE WHEN THE MANUFACTURER WOULD SUPPLY THE PART TO THE DEALER. THE DEALER DID NOT STATE WHETHER OR NOT THE PART WAS ON A BACKORDER. JUST UNDER 36000 MILES WENT TO FILL UP WITH GAS AND AS SOON AS I STARTED THE PUMP THE GAS CUTS OFF AS IF I HAD A FULL TANK. BROUGHT THE JEEP INTO THE DEALERSHIP AND IT WAS DIAGNOSED AS EITHER A BAD CHECK VALVE OR BOARD SENSOR WHICH REQUIRES A NEW GAS TANK. WAS TOLD THE GAS TANKS ARE BACK ORDERED FROM THE SUPPLIER WITH NO ETA AND SENT HOME WITH MY JEEP. HOPING THE GAS TANK COMES IN QUICKLY SINCE IT TAKE A LONG TIME TO FILL UP AND BECAUSE I CANNOT GO BY THE AUTOMATIC SHUTOFF I RISK OVER FUELING THE VEHICLE IF I TRY TO FILL IT UP ALL THE WAY.
WHEN I PUMP GAS INTO THE JEEP, IT CUTS OFF AFTER ONLY A VERY SMALL BIT OF GAS HAS BEEN PUMPED. THE FUEL GAUGE WILL SHOW THAT I AM LOW ON FUEL, I WILL STOP TO GET FUEL, WHEN I PUMP THE PUMP AUTO CUTS ME OFF AS IF THE TANK IS FULL. THERE IS ALSO A BACKSPLASH OF FUEL INSIDE THE HOSE. I HAD THE CAR SERVICED IN MARCH 2016 AND THE NOTES INDICATE THAT A FILLER TUBE WAS REPLACED. NOW IT IS DECEMBER 6, 2016 AND I AM HAVING THIS SAME ISSUE. WHEN I READ THE JEEP OWNERS BOARDS, THIS APPEARS TO BE AN ISSUE WITH MANY JEEP MODELS AND FOR MANY MODEL YEARS. IT WORRIES ME THAT I WILL BE STRANDED OUT ON THE ROADS AND NOT ABLE TO FILL MY FUEL TANK TO CARRY ON WITH MY TRIP. ALSO, I AM CONCERNED ABOUT THE GAS BACKSPLASH. WHILE I HAVE NOT YET SEEN THE GAS LEAVE THE TUBE, IT DOES BACK UP TO THE POINT I CAN SEE IT AND ONE THINKS IT WILL BACK OUT OF THE CAR ALTOGETHER. I JUST DON'T SEE HOW THIS CAN BE SAFE. SINCE IT HAPPENS WHEN I AM PUMPING GAS, THE VEHICLE IS ALWAYS PARKED AND TURNED OFF WHEN I EXPERIENCE THIS ISSUE. ON SOME OF THE BOARDS, IT IS RECOMMENDED TO BACK UP THE GAS PUMP AND TRY IT DIFFERENT ANGLES WITHIN THE TUBE. NO MATTER HOW MUCH I BACK THE PUMP UP OR ANGLE THE POSITION OF THE PUMP, IT CUTS OFF AFTER ONLY A TINY AMOUNT OF GAS BEING EXPELLED INTO THE JEEP TANK. *TR

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE FUEL CAP FRACTURED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED; HOWEVER, THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK TO THE DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE FUEL CAP NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE.
