FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE:DELIVERY:FUEL PUMP

CERTAIN AFTERMARKET AIRTEX ELECTRIC FUEL PUMPS INSTALLED FOR USE AS REPLACEMENT EQUIPMENT FOR CERTAIN 1997-2004 JEEP WRANGLER; 1997-2001 JEEP CHEROKEE; 1997-2004 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE; AND 2000-2003 DODGE DAKOTA VEHICLES. THE PLASTIC ELECTRICAL GROMMET CONNECTORS AT THE TOP OF THE FUEL PUMP MODULE ARE NOT COMPATIBLE WITH AUTOMOTIVE FUELS AND MAY DEGRADE CAUSING A POTENTIAL LEAK PATH FOR FUEL.

Fix: AIRTEX WILL NOTIFY ITS CUSTOMERS AND WILL REPLACE THE AFFECTED FUEL PUMPS FREE OF CHARGE. THE RECALL BEGAN ON JANUARY 25, 2006. OWNERS MAY CONTACT AIRTEX CUSTOMER SERVICE DEPARTMENT AT 1-800-880-3056.

ON CERTAIN SPORT UTILITY VEHICLES EQUIPPED WITH A 4.0L ENGINE ONLY, THE DESIGN OF THE INTAKE AND EXHAUST MANIFOLDS COULD ALLOW DEBRIS TO ACCUMULATE AT THE #3 CYLINDER LOCATION.

Fix: DEALERS WILL INSTALL A MANIFOLD SHIELD TO MODIFY THE AIR FLOW CHARACTERISTICS AND TO PREVENT THE ACCUMULATION OF DEBRIS IN THE AREA OF THE #3 CYLINDER. OWNER NOTIFICATION BEGAN MAY 13, 2002. OWNERS WHO TAKE THEIR VEHICLES TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER ON AN AGREED UPON SERVICE DATE AND DO NOT RECEIVE THE FREE REMEDY WITHIN A REASONABLE TIME SHOULD CONTACT DAIMLERCHRYSLER AT 1-800-853-1403.

While driving at 10 mph, your 2001 Jeep Cherokee suddenly lost power and smoke came from the engine. A mechanic found a faulty top cylinder, and smoke indicated a potential fire risk. This issue is covered under a known fuel system safety recall, and the manufacturer should diagnose and repair it at no cost at an authorized dealer.

Your fuel injectors can overheat and cause engine misfiring or fire risk because the exhaust manifold sits directly underneath them. Your Jeep came with insulator blankets to protect against this, but when your valve cover gasket leaked oil onto the insulator, it became a fire hazard and you discarded it. When you tried to order replacement injector shields and an insulator blanket from a Chrysler dealership, they refused to sell them to you because your vehicle's records showed these recall parts were already installed.

The mechanic couldn't find replacement parts to fix the problem. Repairing this will likely involve replacing the fuel tank sending unit and addressing the vapor lock condition.

THEY CAN'T FIND IT AND THEY RESET THE LIGHT. WITHIN 2 WEEKS THE SAME THING HAPPEN. THEY REPLACED THE GAS CAP A FEW TIMES AND CHANGED A GASKET ABOVE THE FUEL TANK. THIS MADE NO DIFFERENCE. JUST RECENTLY THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN INTO THE DEALER TWICE IN A MONTH. THE DEALER SUGGESTED TRADING IN THE VEHICLE AND CHANGED THE GAS CAP AGAIN. THE LAST TIME THE VEHICLE WAS IN THEY SUGGESTED A TUNE UP, WHICH IS NORMALLY DONE WITHIN SUGGESTED TIMES ANYWAYS, BUT DID IT AND CHARGED US FOR IT. AGAIN SAME THING HAPPENED. VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO NEAR BY SERVICE DEPARTMENT TO BE TESTED.RESULTS (LARGE LEAK)..THE PROBLEM HAS BEEN ONGOING , NOTHING IS BEING DONE TO SOLVE IT.

MECHANIC STATED FRONT TIRES NEEDED REPLACED AS THEY WERE BUBBLED ON INSIDE , NEEDED NEW CERAMIX FRONT BRAKE PADS ,NEW MACHINE ROTORS, AND FRONT END ALIGNMENT AND MY RIGHT REAR RIM IS BENT AND LEFT CAMBER IS OUT AND THEIR ARE NO KITS AVAILABLE AT THIS TIME TO REPAIR MY JEEP. I PAID $846.43 AND WHEN I DROVE HOME THE JEEP STILL VIBRATES AND PULLS. I HEAR A NOISE WHEN I AM DRIVING THAT SOUNDS LIKE THE TIRES OR RIMS ARE RUBBING. I DON'T BLAME MY MECHANIC, HE DID A FINE JOB HOWEVER I FEEL THAT I GOT STUCK WITH A LEMON AND WAS SHOCKED TO SEE 113 CONSUMER COMPLAINTS ON YOUR SITE THAT WERE ALL VERY SIMILAR TO MY OWN.
