All four of your Cooper Discoverer A/T tires developed cracks along the sidewalls at around 170,000 miles. Your tire dealer noticed the issue but didn't replace them, and recommended you report it to the tire manufacturer and NHTSA. Cracked sidewalls can weaken the tire structure and increase the risk of a blowout, so the tires should be inspected by a professional and likely replaced.

LEFT REAR TIRE FAILED AND BLEW OUT AT 70MPH. THE GOOD THING IS THE TIRE DEFLATED RAPIDLY WITH NO LOSS OF CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE. ON INSPECTION OF TIRE IT WAS FOUND THAT THE INNER SIDE WALL HAD A RECTANGULAR RIP/PATCH FROM THE RIM TO THE TREAD. THERE WAS NO DEBRIS OR OTHER ROAD HAZARDS WHEN THE TIRE FAILED. ALL FOUR TIRES HAVE LESS THAN 25000 MILES ON THEM. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE. THE VEHICLE HAS GOODYEAR EAGLE R-SA TIRES, SIZE 255/45/R20. THE VEHICLE WAS IN A STATIONARY POSITION WHEN THE CONTACT OBSERVED THAT THE FRONT DRIVER AND PASSENGER TIRES EXHIBITED SEVERE TREAD SEPARATION. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT TIRE FACILITY FOR INSPECTION. THE TIRES HAVE NOT BEEN REPLACED AT THIS TIME. THE CONTACT HAD CONCERNS OF THE SAFETY RISK INVOLVED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 16,536.

RIGHT HAND VEHICLE; CONSUMER BOUGHT VEHICLE TO DELIVER MAIL. SPARE TIRE WAS MOUNTED ON LEFT SIDE INSTEAD OF RIGHT SIDE, CAUSING A BLIND SPOT WHEN PULLING ONTO ROAD. *AK
THIS IS A RIGHT HAND DRIVE JEEP CHEROKEE. THE SPARE TIRE IS MOUNTED ON THE LEFT HAND SIDE CAUSING A VISIBILITY PROBLEM THAT IS A SEVERE SAFETY HAZARD WHEN PULLING ONTO THE ROAD. THE SPARE TIRE WAS MOUNTED ON THE RIGHT HAND SIDE IN THE 1995-1998 RIGHT HAND DRIVE CHEROKEE MODELS, BUT THEN FOR SOME REASON WAS MOUNTED ON THE LEFT IN THE 1999 AND 2000 MODELS. DEALER REFUSED TO REMOUNT THE TIRE ON THE RIGHT HAND SIDE, SAYING THERE WAS NO WAY TO DO THIS.*AK

HE SAID HE HAD NO KNOWLEDGE OF BLOWOUTS WITH GOODYEAR WRANGLER. I TOLD HIM I READ AN ARTICLE ABOUT WRANGLER TIRE FAILURES A FEW MONTHS AGO. HE SAID I WAS MISTAKEN AND THAT EVEN THOUGH THE 2000 JEEP IS UNDER WARRANTY THERE WAS NOTHING HE COULD DO FOR ME.
