TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE. WHILE THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED, THE GEAR SHIFTER WAS PLACED IN REVERSE AND THE VEHICLE INADVERTENTLY ACCELERATED AT A RAPID SPEED. THE VEHICLE CRASHED INTO THE GARAGE DOOR. THERE WERE NO WARNING INDICATORS ILLUMINATED. THERE WERE NO INJURIES AND A POLICE REPORT WAS NOT FILED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO POWAY CHRYSLER JEEP DODGE RAM (13811 POWAY RD, POWAY, CA 92064 (866) 688-6485), BUT WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE AND PROVIDED CASE NUMBER: 32388093. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 95,000.
VEHICLE WAS IN MOTION ON CITY STREET AND ENGINE QUIT AT 40MPH. THIS ENDAGERED DRIVER, PASSENGER, AND OTHER VEHICLES ON THE ROAD.
I AM CONCERNED THAT MY VEHICLE IS NOT GOING TO BE RECALLED. I HAVE READ THAT IF I AM STRUCK FROM BEHIND MY CAR COULD CATCH FIRE. I AM EXPERIENCING SOME OTHER ISSUES WITH THE CAR, ONE OF WHICH IS IT DYING EVERYTIME I PUSH THE ACCELERATOR. SO I AM TERRIFIED THAT IF I PULL OUT INTO TRAFFIC AND IT DIES, LIKE IT DOES REGULARLY, I WILL BE REAR-ENDED AND MY CAR WILL BURST INTO FLAMES AND MY KIDS, INCLUDING AN INFANT, IN THE BACK SEAT WILL DIE IN THE FIRE. MY DAUGHTER HAD JUST LEFT THE DRIVEWAY AND WAS DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 20-25 MILES AN HOUR WHEN HER ACCELERATOR DROPPED TO THE FLOOR. SHE MADE IT TO A PARKING LOT WHERE THERE ARE NOW BLACK RUBBER CIRCLES ALL OVER FROM HER TRYING TO STOP BY BRAKING. SHE FINALLY GOT IT STOPPED AND WE HAD IT TOWED TO A GARAGE. THEY INFORMED ME THAT IT WAS THE THROTTLE BODY AND THAT JEEP HAD THEM ON BACKORDER FOR AT LEAST 2 WEEKS. MY BOYFRIEND WHO OWNS A GARAGE OUT OF STATE CONFIRMED THIS. I COULDN'T WAIT 2 WEEKS FOR WHAT WAS PROBABLY ANOTHER BAD PART, SINCE JEEP SAID THAT THEY HAVEN'T EVER REDESIGNED THIS PART. INSTEAD, I PAID $506.79 FOR AN AFTERMARKET THROTTLE BODY. HOW IS IT POSSIBLE THAT A PART IS ON BACKORDER FOR 2 WEEKS, YET NO ONE IS SAYING THAT THERE IS A PROBLEM WITH IT? MY DAUGHTER IS 18 AND NOT AN EXPERIENCED DRIVER. THE VEHICLE WAS COMPLETELY OUT OF HER CONTROL. SHE WAS TERRIFIED BY THIS. WE LIVE IN A HIGH TRAFFIC AREA SO IT'S AMAZING THAT SHE DIDN'T HIT SOMEONE. I HAVE KEPT THIS ORIGINAL THROTTLE BODY. UPON LOOKING AT IT, I REALIZED THAT YOUR LIFE IS AT THE MERCY OF A SPRING. A SPRING THAT OVER TIME BECOMES WORN OUT AND FAILS. I'M NO ENGINEER, BUT THERE HAS TO BE A BETTER WAY TO MAKE THESE. *TR

WHEN I WENT INTO DRIVE, THE JEEP REVVED UP AND ACCELERATED ON ITS OWN. I APPLIED BRAKES BUT CAR KEPT ACCELERATING AND TAPPED CAR IN FRONT OF ME. I HAVE FILED A COMPLAINT WITH CHRYSLER - HAVE BEEN TRANSFERRED TO SEVERAL DIFFERENT DEPARTMENTS, AND AM STILL WAITING TO SEE IF THEY WILL ACCEPT ANY RESPONSIBILITY.*JB
MY 2000 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE ALSO HAS THE ACCELERATION PROBLEM (WITHOUT NOTICE) WHEN SHIFTING FROM OR TO PARK. I'VE HAD A DOZEN INSTANCES INCLUDING SOME WHILE STOPPED BEHIND OTHER VEHICLES AT A RED LIGHT AND WHEN I TAKE MY FOOT OFF THE BRAKE THE CAR WANTS TO SURGE FORWARD. I'VE TAKEN TO STAYING BACK A BIT FURTHER IN THOSE INSTANCES. I INSTRUCT MY WIFE AND SON TO DO THE SAME WHEN DRIVING MY VEHICLE. *JB

I SAW ON THE NEWS/READ IN THE ARTICLE THAT THE KY ATTORNEY GENERAL WAS PARTICIPATING IN THE INVESTIGATION. I HAVE ALSO CONTACTED THE OH ATTORNEY GENERAL AND FILED A FORMAL COMPLAINT, TO BRING THIS TO HIS ATTENTION AND IN HOPES THAT HE TOO WILL JOIN IN THIS EFFORT. *JB
DT: CONSUMER WAS WORKING ON THE VEHICLE, AND SPRAYED THE CARBURETOR WHEN THE CAR LUNGED FORWARD PINNING CONSUMER BETWEEN A WIRED SHELF AND FREEZER WHICH STOPPED THE JEEP BUT WAS DESTROYED. *TT *EH
THE ENGINE SPEED ON MY 2000 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE ACCELERATES UNEXPECTED AND VERY SPORADIC WILL ENGINE IS IDLEING OR ON THE HIGHWAY. I HAVE TAKEN THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER AND OTHER MECHANICS AND THEY CANNOT FIND WHATS WRONG WITH IT. THE DEALER RE-SET THE COMPUTER PER A SERVICE BULLETIN BUT THAT DIDN'T HELP. I HAVE MANAGED TO CONTROL THE SPEED FLUCTATIONS BY DEPRESSING THE GAS PEDAL SEVERAL TIMES AND IT BRINGS IT DOWN TO NORMAL SPEED OR IDLE.*AK
2000 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE V8 - ENGINE STALLS OUT INTERMITTENTLY WHILE DRIVING. THIS HAPPENS MORE FREQUENTLY IN COLDER WEATHER (50 - 70 DEGREES F), BUT ALSO HAPPENS AFTER THE ENGINE IS HOT. STALLS WHEN FOOT IS OFF THE GAS AND SLOWING DOWN, BRAKING, ETC. IT USUALLY STARTS RIGHT BACK UP. THIS IS DANGEROUS BECAUSE THE VEHICLE IS EXTREMELY DIFFICULT TO STEER WITHOUT POWER. THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN ONE CHYYSLER DEALER 3 TIMES CONCERNING THIS ISSUE, ANOTHER CHRYSLER DEALER ONE TIME, AND A PRIVATE CERTIFIED MECHANIC. NONE HAVE BEEN ABLE TO FIX THE PROBLEM. THE ENGINE LIGHT DOES NOT TURN ON WHEN IT STALLS. NO DIAGNOSTIC CODES ARE STORED IN THE JEEP'S COMPUTER OTHER THAN THE NUMBER OF TIMES IT WAS RESTARTED. SINCE THE PROBLEM IS INTERMITTENT, THE MECHANICS ARE UNABLE TO CORRECTLY DIAGNOSE THE PROBLEM AND DETERMINE IF IT HAS BEEN REPAIRED, BUT THEY REMAIN CAPABLE OF CHARGING LOTS OF MONEY FOR REPLACING PLENUM SEALS, CHECKING THE IDLE, FLUSHING THE TRANSMISSION, CLEANING FUEL FILTERS, TESTING TIME, REPLACING THE PCV VALVE, AND MORE. THE CAR STALLS AN AVERAGE OF ONCE EVERY 10 MILES, LESS IF I DRIVE WITH TWO FEET, KEEPING PRESSURE ON THE THROTTLE.*AK
WHEN COMING TO A STOP ENGINE REVVED AND CONSUMER LOST CONTROL OF VEHICLE. *AK
(1) WHILE TRAVELING 70 MPH WHILE IN CRUISE CONTROL ACCELERATOR PEDAL WOULD NOT DISENGAGE WHEN I A)TAPPED THE BRAKE, B)MANUALLY TURNED OFF THE CRUISE CONTROL, AND C)WHEN I PHYSICALLY ATTEMPTED TO PULL UP ON THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL. THE SPEED OF THE CAR INCREASED STEADILY, NEARING 90 MPH, BEFORE I PUT THE CAR IN NEUTRAL, PRESSING BOTH FEET (FULL BODY WEIGHT) ON THE BRAKES AND HAD THE GOOD FORTUNE OF MANY STEEP HILLS, WAS ABLE TO SLOW THE CAR TO 25 MPH, ALLOWING ME TO MOVE TO AN OFF RAMP AND TURNING OFF THE ENGINE. THE CAR WAS TOWED APPROXIMATELY 20 MILES TO THE JEEP DEALER WHO INFORMED ME THAT ALL THAT WAS WRONG WITH MY CAR WAS THAT THERE WAS A LOT OF CARBON BUILD-UP AROUND THE ACCELERATOR CABLE, AND THAT IS WHY IT STUCK. THEY SAID THAT "WE SEE THIS ALOT IN JEEPS THAT ARE DRIVEN ALOT IN THE CITY". UNFORTUNATELY, THIS WAS NOT THE CASE WITH MY JEEP, WHICH WAS REGULARLY DRIVEN ON THE HIGHWAY (~100 MILES EACH WEEKEND), AS WELL AS THE FACT THAT I HAD JUST DRIVEN FROM PITTSBURGH TO INDIANAPOLIS AND WAS RETURNING HOME WHEN THIS OCCURRED. ANY CARBON IN MY ENGINE SHOULD HAVE BEEN REMOVED THROUGH THIS MUCH DRIVING.*AK

I KNOW THAT MY FOOT WAS FIRMLY ON THE BRAKE AND NOT NEAR THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL. NEEDLESS TO SAY I AM EXTREMELY AFRAID TO DRIVE THIS CAR. I HAD PURCHASED THIS 2000 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE FROM A CHRYSLER DEALER ON APRIL 16, 2003 AND FOR THE FIRST SIX MONTHS HAD NO PROBLEMS WITH THE VEHICLE. *LA
CONSUMER PUT THE VEHICLE IN PARK, SET THE EMERGENCY BRAKE AND KEPT THE ENGINE RUNNING WHILE GETTING THE MAIL. CONSUMER RETURNED WITH FOOT ON THE BRAKE PEDAL, RELEASED THE PARKING BRAKE, PUT THE VEHICLE IN REVERSE GEAR. WIHTOUT TOUCHING THE ACCELERATOR, THE VEHICLE MOVED BACKWARDS TWO CAR LENGTHS. SUDDENLY WITH OUT CONSUMERS ASSISTANCE, THE VEHICLE REVVED AND ACCELERATED WITH FULL POWER. CONSUMER HAD HIS FOOT PRESSED HARD ON THE BRAKE PEDAL, BUT THE VEHICLE KEPT MOVING. VEHICLE WAS IN DRIVE AND IT SUDDENLY LUNGED FORWARD WHILE GOING AROUND A BEND. ANOTHER TIME CONSUMER SLIGHTLY ACCELERATED, AND APPLIED BRAKES AND VEHICLE LUNGED FORWARD. CONSUMER SLAMMED ON BRAKES HARD TO KEEP FROM LUNGING FORWARD. DEALER WAS UNABLE TO DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM. *AK
SINCE MY INITIAL REPORT ON THIS VEHICLES SUDDEN ACCELERATION WE HAVE HAD IT BACK TO THE DEALER FOR REPAIR OR CORRECTION OF THIS CONDITION. DEALER COULD NOT FIND ANY CODES, OR DEFECT. DEALER CLAIMS THAT CHRYSLER KNOWS NOTHING OF THIS PROBLEM EVEN THOUGH YOUR SITE LISTS MANY OTHER INSTANCES OF THE SAME TYPE. THEY COULD OFFER NO HELP TO THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT IN RESOLVING THIS SERIOUS AND POTENTIALLY LIFE THREATENING SITUATION. HOW MANY REPORTS OF THE SAME TYPE HAVE TO BE FILLED BEFORE AN INVESTIGATION OF THIS CONDITION TAKES PLACE?*AK

VEHICLE IS USED FOR A SECURITY COMPANY. EMPLOYEE DRIVING VEHICLE WAS GOING UP HILL ABOUT 5-10 MPH AND IT FULLY ACCELERATED. EMPLOYEE GAINED CONTROL BEFORE GOING OVER AN EMBANKMENT. *AK
MY HUSBAND WAS BACKING THE JEEP OUT OF THE DRIVEWAY. ONCE THE JEEP WAS PUT IN DRIVE IT ACCELERATED WITHOUT TOUCHING THE GAS PEDAL. IT TOOK MY HUSBAND TO PUT BOTH FEET ON THE BRAKE TO STOP AND PLACE THE JEEP IN PARK. WHEN THE ENGINE STOPPED REVING HE WAS ABLE TO PUT THE JEEP IN DRIVE AND PROCEED DOWN THE DRIVEWAY. HE DROVE ABOUT 15 FEET AND THE JEEP STALLED. NOW I DRIVE THIS JEEP ON AVERAGE ABOUT 800 MILES PER WEEK. I DID TAKE THE JEEP OVER TO CHRYSLER TO HAVE THEM LOOK AT IT. I TOLD THEM WHAT HAPPENED AND LEFT MY JEEP THERE. I RECEIVED A CALL ABOUT 5 HOURS LATER STATING THAT THE JEEP WAS READY TO BE PICKED UP AND WAS ALSO TOLD THAT THEY FOUND NOTHING WRONG WITH THE JEEP. THEY WERE NOT ABLE TO GIVE ME ANY TYPE OF EXPLANANTION OF WHY THIS HAPPENED. I DO NOT WANT THIS TO HAPPEN WHILE I AM DRIVING, I DON'T THINK I WOULD BE ABLE TO STOP THE JEEP LIKE MY HUSBAND DID. I AM AFRAID THAT I WILL RUN OFF THE ROAD OR SMASH INTO SOMETHING. I DID READ ABOUT ANOTHER PERSON ON YOUR SITE WHO HAD A SIMILIAR PROBLEM. THIS IS SERIOUS AND PEOPLE CAN BE KILLED DUE TO THIS PROBLEM. I HOPE THEIR IS SOMETHING THAT CAN BE DONE. THANK YOU. *AK
I WAS CRUISING AT 50 MPH WHEN SUDDENLY THE VEHICLE STARTED TO ACCELERATE UNCONTROLLABLY, I STEPPED ON THE BRAKES, BUT THE VEHICLE CONTINUED TO ACCELERATE..I HAD TO TURN OF THE ENGINE TO STOP. AND WHEN I TRIED TO RESTART THE VEHICLE.IT JUST REVVED REALLY HIGH..I CHECK THE FLOORMATS AND IT WAS IN PLACE THE GAS PEDAL WAS NOT STUCK IN THE FLOORMAT. *AK
ON 2 OCCASIONS AND WHILE MAKING A NORMAL STOP WITH FOOT ON BRAKES , RPM'S WILL GO UP HIGH ,FEELS LIKE IT GOES TO THE MAXIMUM ,LASTING ABOUT 5 SECONDS AND THEN IT WILL GO BACK TO NORMAL. WHILE EXPERIENCING THE DEFECT, CONSUMER MUST STAND ON BRAKES, AND HOLD ON TO STEERING WHEEL TO KEEP CONTROL. DEALER CLAIMS CANNOT DUPLICATE DEFECT. DEALER HAS SCANNED SYSTEM FOR CODES, BUT NO CODES SHOWED UP ,PERFORMED TEST IAC PER STARR WHICH TESTED OKAY. ALSO, TOOK VEHICLE TO ROAD TEST FOR 562 MILES WHICH RAN ACCORDING TO SPECIFICATIONS. *AK
