Electrical System3 issues

CrashFiled: Dec 2021

Your vehicle unexpectedly shifted into gear and moved forward while the brake was engaged, causing it to crash into a fence. This suggests a potential issue with the transmission or brake system that allowed the vehicle to move when it shouldn't have. A mechanic will need to inspect the transmission, brake system, and related electrical components to determine why the vehicle moved unexpectedly.

NHTSA #: 11444370
criticalELECTRICAL SYSTEM
Filed: Oct 2019

Your Jeep may suddenly shut off while driving at any speed, with the key being unrecognized by the ignition system. When this happens, the engine won't restart and the steering locks up, making the vehicle impossible to control. This has occurred multiple times and repair shops have been unable to identify the cause, suggesting an electrical system defect with the ignition or key recognition mechanism.

NHTSA #: 11266891
highELECTRICAL SYSTEM
Filed: Aug 2019

Your vehicle won't start after you insert the key into the ignition switch, and a message appears saying the key isn't recognized. This electrical issue prevents the engine from cranking and may require diagnosis and repair of the ignition system or key sensor components.

FireFiled: Oct 2021

Your driver's seat became extremely hot and caused second-degree burns to your legs while you were wearing jeans. There were no warning lights to alert you to the problem before it happened. The dealer confirmed there were no recalls for this issue, and the manufacturer did not provide assistance.

NHTSA #: 11436586
highSEATS
Filed: Oct 2022

Your driver's front seat has become loose at the base and wobbles when you sit on it, making it uncomfortable and potentially unsafe to drive. The seat is not securely attached to the floor. This is a known issue affecting multiple Cherokee owners.

NHTSA #: 11488629
Engine2 issues
criticalENGINE
Filed: Jul 2019

Your engine cuts off suddenly while driving, including on the highway, even after you've replaced the crankshaft sensor, camshaft sensor, idle air control valve, and PCM. Multiple repair shops haven't been able to identify the cause. You may want to have a mechanic check the fuel system, ignition system, or remaining engine sensors that could cause stalling.

NHTSA #: 11240832
highENGINE
Filed: May 2020

Your engine randomly shuts down completely without warning, as if it lost all power, and won't restart immediately. Sometimes it will start again after 10-15 minutes, only to shut down again shortly after. You've already replaced the oxygen sensor, crank sensor, idle control sensor, and engine computer, but the problem persists. A mechanic will need to diagnose the electrical system, fuel delivery, or remaining engine sensors to find what's causing the repeated stalling.

NHTSA #: 11324077
Air Bags1 issue
criticalAIR BAGS
CrashFiled: Dec 2025

You were hit in the front of your Jeep while making a left turn, and you struck the steering wheel during the crash. However, your front airbags failed to deploy when they should have. The airbag system likely needs diagnostic testing and possible replacement of the airbag control module or sensors.

NHTSA #: 11703445
Fuel System, Gasoline,structure1 issue
highFUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE,STRUCTURE
Filed: Sep 2025

Your Jeep was subject to a safety recall (Campaign 13V252000) for a fuel system issue, but your local dealer refused to perform the repair because of your vehicle's age. You haven't experienced an actual problem yet, but the recall was issued due to a structural concern with the fuel system. You may need to contact Jeep directly or seek out another dealer if you want the recall work completed.

Tires1 issue
highTIRES
Filed: Oct 2022

All four of your Cooper Discoverer A/T tires developed cracks along the sidewalls at around 170,000 miles. Your tire dealer noticed the issue but didn't replace them, and recommended you report it to the tire manufacturer and NHTSA. Cracked sidewalls can weaken the tire structure and increase the risk of a blowout, so the tires should be inspected by a professional and likely replaced.

NHTSA #: 11489313
Electrical System,engine1 issue
highELECTRICAL SYSTEM,ENGINE
Filed: Jul 2022

After repairs to fix a starting issue, your Jeep's instrument cluster stopped working properly — all gauges stopped functioning and all warning lights came on simultaneously a few days after you got the vehicle back. The problem occurred after the service center replaced the ECM and crankshaft sensor, and multiple diagnostic visits haven't resolved it. This repair will likely require additional electrical diagnostics and possible instrument cluster replacement or ECM reprogramming.

NHTSA #: 11474598
Electrical System,service Brakes1 issue
highELECTRICAL SYSTEM,SERVICE BRAKES
Filed: Jun 2021

Your driver's side rear light housing has melted, and the brake and tail lights on that side no longer work. This makes your vehicle less visible to drivers behind you, especially when braking. The fix will likely involve replacing the melted light housing and checking the wiring for heat damage.

NHTSA #: 11420654
Steering,vehicle Speed Control,unknown Or Other1 issue
highSTEERING,VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL,UNKNOWN OR OTHER
Filed: May 2020

Your car shakes violently while driving, especially on the freeway, making it difficult to control. The shaking is severe enough to be uncomfortable and concerning to your passengers. The issue may be related to steering or speed control components, and you should have it inspected before driving again.

NHTSA #: 11326587
Steering1 issue
highSTEERING
Filed: Feb 2020

Your steering wheel is difficult to keep centered, causing the vehicle to drift between lanes. You've already replaced the tires, had them balanced, and completed a wheel alignment, but the problem persists. This suggests the issue may be with internal steering components rather than tire or alignment-related problems. A mechanic will likely need to inspect the steering system for worn parts like tie rods, ball joints, or the steering gear itself.

NHTSA #: 11308678
Electrical System,unknown Or Other,engine1 issue
highELECTRICAL SYSTEM,UNKNOWN OR OTHER,ENGINE
Filed: Oct 2019

Your Jeep won't start. The engine cranks but doesn't turn over, or there's no response when you turn the key. This could involve the electrical system or engine components preventing normal startup.

Power Train1 issue
highPOWER TRAIN
Filed: Jul 2019

Your Jeep's anti-theft system may be causing the engine to start and then shut down after just 2-3 seconds. This is a known issue reported by many owners online. The problem likely involves the anti-theft immobilizer not properly recognizing your key, which requires resetting or replacing the security module or having the immobilizer system reprogrammed.

NHTSA #: 11229957
Electrical System, electronic Stability Control (esc)1 issue
highELECTRICAL SYSTEM,ELECTRONIC STABILITY CONTROL (ESC)
Filed: Jun 2019

Your dashboard lights and alarms blink on and off at the same time, which suggests a short circuit in the wiring. Additionally, your fuel gauge is spinning 180 degrees and getting stuck underneath, so it always reads empty even when your tank has gas—this happens whether you're driving or parked. The issue likely involves repairing or replacing faulty wiring and the fuel gauge sender unit.

NHTSA #: 11222194
Unknown Or Other1 issue
highUNKNOWN OR OTHER
Filed: May 2019

Your Jeep's engine stalls unexpectedly at random times while driving. Multiple mechanics and dealers have attempted repairs without success. The cause is unclear, but this could involve fuel delivery, ignition, or engine control system issues that need diagnostic testing.
