SEAT BELTS:FRONT

Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain model year 2013-2016 Ford Fusion vehicles manufactured November 2, 2012, to July 31, 2014, and 2013-2015 Lincoln MKZ vehicles manufactured November 14, 2012, to July 31, 2014. In the event of a crash, heat from the deployment of a seat belt pretensioner may cause a front seat belt anchor cable to fail.

Fix: Ford will notify owners, and dealers will apply a protective coating to the seat belt cable, free of charge. The recall began May 16, 2017. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford's number for this recall is 16S42.

The engine malfunctioned and faulty rear seat belt, it is not available for inspection because it started a fire that destroyed by car. The remains of the car is at a savage yard. We were put at risk because we were driving/riding in the car at the time it starting burning. We were able to pull the car over and park it in a gas station parking lot before it became fully engulfed in flames. I am reaching out to Ford. Since it was not an accident involved, the fire department inspected the vehicle and determine the fire started in the engine. Insurance representative has determined it is a total loss. There were no warning lamps or messages from the car. However, what caused us to detect something was wrong was the thick smoke started filling the car's cabin at which time we immediately pulled over. When we stopped the car, actual flames came from under the hoods towards the windshield of the car and we proceed to exit the car. My granddaughter in the back seat was having a hard time releasing herself from her seat belt.

The contact owns a 2013 Ford Fusion The contact stated while driving at an undisclosed speed, the contact became aware that one of the passengers was unable to properly engage their seat belt. The contact stated the seat belt remained locked and could not be removed from the base. The contact became aware of a failure with the hardware body of the seat belt after inspecting the vehicle. The contact was concerned that the middle seat belt section of the vehicle posed a safety hazard for his children. The dealer was contacted and informed the contact to call the manufacturer for assistance. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and referred the contact to the NSHTA Hotline for assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 136,179.

The engine coolant continually needs to be refilled, and has resulted in the car overheating multiple times. I have had the coolant system checked multiple times for leaks and they say that the pressure test doesn't show any leaking. I have had to pull over on the side of the highway twice since I've had the car to wait for it to cool down to put coolant in, which I now have to carry in the trunk because it happens so often. I don't know if the engine is just running hotter than it should and causing this but I would like to know if this has been a problem with other fusions because its become a big safety issue when I have to pull off the highway to fix the car. Also, I don't know if this has been a problem with other fords but the seatbelt constantly locks while trying to put it on whether the car is on or off.

The contact called the local dealer and made them aware of the failure. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. Upon investigation, the contact associated the failure with NHTSA Campaign Number: 16V875000 (Seat Belts) however, the VIN was not included. The manufacturer had been informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 45,000.

TO REMEDY, THE BOTTOM SEAT HAS TO BE REMOVED, AND SEAT BELT UNBOLTED FROM CAR. I AM CONCERNED THE BELT COULD LOCK AROUND A PERSON IF SEATED THERE. CALLED AGAIN, STILL NOT IN. WHEN I CALL CALL BACK, AFTER I ASK ABOUT IT, I GET SENT TO VOICE MAIL WITH NO CALL BACK. IT HAS BEEN 5 MONTHS. A SECOND DEALER I CALLED TO TRY TO GET THE REPAIR IS DOING THE VOICEMAIL ISSUE WITH ME AS WELL.. OBVIOUSLY, THE DEALERS DON'T WANT TO FIX IT. THEY WANT ME TO GO AWAY.

REAR CENTER PASSENGER SEAT STOPS WORKING AND LOCKS UP IN THE FOLDED-DOWN SEAT POSITION MAKING THE TWO PASSENGER-SIDE SEATS UNUSABLE OR USABLE BY DISENGAGING THE SEAT BELT COMPLETELY. THIS REPEATABLE DEFECT OCCURS WHEN THE PASSENGER-SIDE REAR SEAT IS FOLDED DOWN. THIS CAUSES THE SEATBELT TO LOCK-UP AND THEREFORE IMPEDES RETURNING THE SEAT TO THE NORMAL RAISED POSITION. THE USER EITHER LOOSES THE AVAILABILITY TO USE THE SEAT OR USE IT IN A MATTER THAT IT WAS NOT INTENDED WHILE SEATING A PASSENGER WITH NO RESTRAINING DEVICE AS THE RESTRAINING DEVICE IS STUCK HOLDING THE BACKREST DOWN. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE MANUFACTURER EXCEEDED A REASONABLE AMOUNT OF TIME FOR THE RECALL REPAIR. THE MANUFACTURER WAS AWARE OF THE ISSUE. THE CONTACT WAS ADVISED BY THE MANUFACTURER TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE AT HER DISCRETION, BUT THEY WOULD NOT BE LIABLE FOR THE SAFETY RISK. THE CONTACT HAD NOT EXPERIENCED A FAILURE. MY DAUGHTER WAS IN THE MIDDLE SEAT IN THE BACK OF THE CAR. WE WENT TO GET HER OUT AND THE SEAT BELT LOCKED UP AND THE BELT BECAME REALLY TIGHT ON HER CHEST. SHE STARTED TO CRY AND WE DIDN'T KNOW HOW TO GET HER OUR. WE THEN UNLATCHED THE SEAT, FOLDED IT OVER AND SHE CRAWLED OUT. BUT THEN THE SEAT BELT BECAME EVEN TIGHTER AND I NOW CAN NOT LIFT THE SEAT BACK UP. THE SEAT BELT COULD HAVE HARMED MY CHILD.

I WENT TO THE FORD DEALERSHIP AND THEY CUT THE BELT AND SAID THEY WOULD ORDER ANOTHER BELT. WHILE THEY WERE CUTTING THE BELT THE COMMENT WAS MADE THIS IS THE 5TH OR 6TH CAR WE HAVE COME IN WITH THIS PROBLEM. I STARTED TO THINK THIS IS ONE DEALERSHIP, HOW MANY MORE CARS OWNERS HAVE HAD THIS HAPPEN TO THEM. I THINK THIS IS A REAL SAFETY ISSUE.
