The contact owns a 2013 Ford Focus. The contact stated that while her son was driving at an undisclosed speed, an unknown warning light illuminated. The vehicle started to overheat. The contact's son was able to drive the vehicle to a safe location off the roadway. The contact's son allowed the vehicle to cool down. The contact's son safely drove the vehicle to the residence. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed with a failed TCM. The contact was informed that there was a technical service bulletin for the TCM replacement, and the part would be ordered. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact stated that neither the dealer nor the manufacturer had provided any assistance or information regarding the ordered parts for the repair. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and a case was filed. The failure mileage was approximately 52,000.
Car was inspected by a Ford certified mechanic after issues arose. My car only has 24,000 miles on it. Was informed that it was the clutch in the transmission that needs replaced. Investigation into the problem I saw a recall referring to the clutching, but was not associated with the car I have. For it having low miles and the clutch going out on it already, seems a bit odd. The car cannot be driven until repairs get done as I do not want to be breaking down on the side of the road.
The vehicle had a recall on the clutch that is faulty AGAIN, only after 2.5 years from the last repair. This part has been replaced 2 times and now needs to be replaced a third time. The vehicle frequently and unexpectedly stalls during acceleration and is a tremendous safety issue; however Ford is stating the part was already repaired under the recall once and will not repair it a second time, even though it is the same function and safety issue as the previous recall only 2.5 years ago

The contact attempted to depress the brake pedal however, the pedal was firm. The contact pulled over and used the parking brake to stop the vehicle. The contact allowed the engine to cool down before restarting the vehicle. The vehicle then operated as designed. The vehicle had not been diagnosed. The manufacturer was contacted a case was file and the contact was advised to file a complaint with the NHTSA Hotline. The failure mileage was 115,670.
The contact owned a 2013 Ford Focus. The contact stated that she left her dog in the vehicle with the engine off and the windows partially open, as she entered her workplace. Approximately 30 minutes later, she was alerted that there was a vehicle on fire. She rushed outside to discover that her vehicle was on fire. As she attempted to save her dog, the fire grew stronger and the vehicle became engulfed in flames. By the time the fire department arrived, the vehicle was incinerated. Her dog died as a result of the fire and was taken by animal control. A police and fire report was filed. The contact sustained severe emotional trauma due to the loss of her dog but did not seek medical attention. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic where the vehicle was deemed a total loss and destroyed. The dealer nor the manufacturer had yet to be notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 133,000.
Transmission failed. Yes it is available for inspection upon request. The car was in a stalled out mode. Unable to drive the vehicle. No warning lights, symptoms or messages. Simply got in the car at the store and put it in gear car would not go forward or backwards. The motor would only raise as if the vehicle was in park.
There have been several lawsuits filed and settled for the vehicle in question previously. Most recently, Ford was having so many issues with models 2011-2016 Ford Focus cars that they were taken to court over the matter related to the transmission control module in the vehicle. This was settled and Ford placed and extended warranty on vehicles of that model should customers have issues. However upon taking the vehicle to a Ford dealership, they are saying that that is not in fact the issue with the car, it is the clutch in the transmission which they also had an extended warranty on that expired conveniently not long before this happened. The clutch going out would mean that I would not be able to go and I would be stuck where the car sits. I have reached out to several other independent mechanic shops and every single one of them have stated that it is only a matter of time before the transmission control module breaks as it sounds like it is not functioning correctly now. I would also like to state that in no way did Ford attempt to contact me about any of these issues involving my car via and email or letter. They knew of the issues that could happen and the risks involved with me continuing to drive the car around and did nothing. The vehicle has been sitting for 7 months now as Ford has deemed it worthless. A vehicle that they sold me they will not even negotiate for because of how broken it is. I find this to be extremely irresponsible and quite frankly I do not have the money to be doing this.

The consumer stated repairs for the vehicle would cost $3,000 and requesting either reimbursement or included in the recall.

When pulling out on a hill or incline the car hesitates and seems to fall on its face for a short time then it finally picks up and has power. It just feels like it only has ten percent of power. It puts myself and others at risk of being in an accident , especially when pulling out into traffic. It could cause a side impact or rear collision very easily. I have driven a streight shift all my life and never ever had a vehicle seem to stall like this . I try and wait for a very large gap in traffic to pull out. On a hill in traffic I am afraid of getting rear ended trying to get pulled out and going. This has happened several times, it is intermittent .the car has only 60,000 miles, so it isn’t worn out.
Clutch and actuators , car only has 80,000 miles. $3500 transmission repair .
Two weeks after purchasing vehicle from a used car dealer, started having severe transmission shudders and car shut down stating the transmission was in need of repair. Had vehicle towed to dealership where diagnosis determined transmission needs replacing. Upon researching on line,, cars.com states NHTSA vehicle safety recall was issued for the transmission and also “copilot” states on line that a recall was issued on this vehicle power shift transmission,,, only two of many complaints on line about the transmission in 2013 Ford Focus .. However Ford states there is no safety recall .. only an extended warranty customer satisfaction warranty for transmission clutch slippage ,, which ended last august , campaign #14M01... What am I to do ? ... the price quoted for a new clutch exceeds the value of the car....

THE MANUFACTURER WAS INFORMED OF THE FAILURE. THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NO LONGER UNDER WARRANTY. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 120,000.
FORD FOCUS 2013 TITANIUM IN MARCH 2020 ON INTERSTATE 90 BETWEEN ST CHARLES MN AND EYOTA MN STALLED WITHOUT WARNING AT 70 MPH AND HAD 32 MILES TO EMPTY READING ON GAUGE. VEHICLE FLATBED TOWED TO HOME 35 MILES AWAY AND GAS WAS ADDED AND VEHICLE RAN FINE. AUGUST 2020 SAME VEHICLE STALLED WITHOUT WARNING ON STATE HIGHWAY AT 60 MILES PER HOUR WITH 21 MILES TO EMPTY ON READING. AGAIN VEHICLE FLATBED TOWED HOME AND GAS WAS ADDED AND VEHICLE HAS RAN FINE SINCE. I BELIEVE THAT THE GAS GAUGE IS FAULTY IN THIS MODEL OF FORD FOCUS AS IN OTHER YEARS BUT NO RECALL YET FOR MODEL 2013 YEAR. WE WILL MAKE SURE GAS DOESNT GET BELOW 50 MILES AS THIS HAS HAPPENED TWICE NOW WITHIN 5 MONTHS AND NOT A COINCIDENCE.
I WAS DRIVING ALONG WITH MY 3 CHILDREN WHEN MY FORD EXPLORER 2011 SUDDENLY TURNED OFF IN THE MIDDLE OF A BUSY STREET ALMOST CAUSING AN ACCIDENT. HAD TO HAVE THE VEHICLE TOWED AND WAS INFORMED THE WATER PUMP HAD FAILED AND CAUSE CATASTROPHIC ENGINE PROBLEMS.

MY CAR IS HAVING ISSUES SHIFTING. IT IS AN AUTOMATIC CAR. THERE IS ISSUES ACCELERATING. WHEN STOPPED I HIT THE GAS PEDAL AND ITS FINE UNTIL IT SHIFTS, THEN THE CAR STALLS FOR A FEW SECONDS AND THEN CATCHES UP. IT DOES THIS EVERY TIME IT GOES TO SHIFT GEARS UNTIL ABOUT 35 MPH. IT IS OUT OF WARRANTY TO FIX THE TRANSMISSION, BUT IT POSSES A HUGE SAFETY RISK.
WHEN ACCELERATING FROM STOPPED POSITIONS LIKE WAITING TO TURN, THE CAR WILL HESITATE BADLY WHEN PRESSING THE ACCELERATOR AND WILL NOT TAKE OFF VERY FAST. THIS OCCURS ON LEVEL AS WELL AS UNLEVEL GROUND. WE HAVE HAD THE CLUTCH REPLACED 3 TIMES WITHIN 2 YEARS AND CONTINUE TO HAVE ISSUES. THIS OCCURS WHEN IN DRIVE WHEN TURNING ALL THE TIME. IT ALSO OCCCCURS WHEN WE ARE TRYING TO SPEED UP TO PASS ANOTHER CAR OR GET AHEAD OF ONE. WHEN THE CAR IS ON AN ANGLE THE FUEL GAUGE WILL READ UP TO 30 MILES ON THE TANK BUT WILL STOP AS THE FUEL SENSOR DOES NOT SHOW THE CAR HAS GAS IN IT. WE HAVE HAD THE FUEL GAUGE CHANGED 2 TIMES IN A 2013 FORD FOCUS. THIS OCCURS WHEN PARKING THE CAR IN OUR DRIVEWAY. THIS OCCURS EVERY DAT THAT WE HAVE HAD THE CAR.

LATER THAT DAY, THE VEHICLE STALLED AND A FUEL ODOR WAS DETECTED. THE FOLLOWING DAY, WHILE THE CONTACT'S SON WAS DRIVING 68 MPH, IT WAS BELIEVED THAT THE ENGINE STALLED AND THE STEERING SEIZED. AS A RESULT, THE VEHICLE CRASHED HEAD ON INTO A TREE. THE CONTACT'S SON DIED INSTANTLY AND THE PASSENGER WAS EJECTED FROM THE VEHICLE THROUGH THE WINDSHIELD. ANOTHER MOTORIST OBSERVED THE CRASH AND CALLED 911. THE PASSENGER WAS AIRLIFTED TO THE HOSPITAL AND RECEIVED MEDICAL ATTENTION FOR THEIR UNKNOWN INJURIES. THE CONTACT'S SON WAS PRONOUNCED DEAD ON THE SCENE. THE AIR BAGS DEPLOYED UPON IMPACT. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. UPON INVESTIGATION, IT WAS DISCOVERED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 18V735000 (FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE). THE VEHICLE WAS DESTROYED AND TOWED. THE DEALER AND MANUFACTURER WERE NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS UNKNOWN.

THE CONTACT COASTED THE VEHICLE TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD WHERE IT IDLED, BUT DID NOT ENGAGE IN ANY GEAR. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO DAVE SINCLAIR FORD (7466 S LINDBERGH BLVD, ST LOUIS, MO 63125) WHERE IT WAS DETERMINED THAT THE CLUTCH FAILED AND NEEDED REPLACEMENT. THE CONTACT ALSO MENTIONED THAT THE CLUTCH HAD TO BE REPLACED TWELVE TIMES SINCE THE VEHICLE WAS PURCHASED IN 2015. THE MECHANIC ALSO MENTIONED THAT THERE WAS AN OIL LEAK IN THE TRANSMISSION. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 79,000.
SINCE I BOUGHT THE CAR NEW IN 2013, IT HAS HESITATED AND SHUDDERED BADLY, ESPECIALLY WHEN BEGINNING TO MOVE FROM A STOP AND WHEN SHIFTING FROM FIRST TO SECOND GEAR. PEOPLE WHO RIDE IN THE CAR ALWAYS ASK ME WHAT'S WRONG WITH IT. I HAVE TAKEN IT BACK TO THE FORD DEALER REPEATEDLY, BUT THE SERVICE MANAGER HAS ALWAYS CLAIMED HE DOESN'T FEEL ANYTHING OUT OF THE ORDINARY. HE SAYS IT'S JUST THE AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION SHIFTING GEARS. ONCE I GOT SO EXASPERATED I TOOK IT BACK AND TOOK THE SERVICE MANAGER FOR A RIDE IN IT MYSELF. IT SHUDDERED AND HESITATED BADLY DURING THE ENTIRE RIDE. HE STILL CLAIMED HE COULDN'T FEEL ANYTHING UNUSUAL. TWICE WHEN I HAVE BEEN DRIVING IT, THE CAR HAS SHIFTED ITSELF FROM DRIVE INTO NEUTRAL AND THE VEHICLE HAS COASTED TO A STOP, TOTALLY WITHOUT POWER. WHEN I TOOK IT BACK TO THE DEALER AFTER THESE OCCURRENCES, THE SERVICE MANAGER HAS SAID THAT IT IS SIMPLY IMPOSSIBLE FOR A CAR TO SHIFT ITSELF FROM DRIVE INTO NEUTRAL. I HAVE RESPONDED THAT IT VERY CLEARLY IS POSSIBLE FOR A CAR TO SHIFT ITSELF FROM DRIVE INTO NEUTRAL, BECAUSE THE CAR HE SOLD ME HAS DONE IT TWICE NOW WHEN I HAVE BEEN DRIVING IT. THE LAST TIME WE SPOKE, I POINTED OUT TO THE SERVICE MANAGER THAT HIS DEALERSHIP SOLD ME A CAR I CAN'T DRIVE ON THE FREEWAY FOR FEAR OF LOSING POWER DOING 70 MILES AN HOUR WITH A LARGE TRUCK RIGHT BEHIND ME AND BEING RUN OVER. I ALSO POINTED OUT THAT THEY SOLD ME A CAR THAT I CAN'T IN GOOD CONSCIENCE ALLOW MY WIFE AND KIDS TO DRIVE. I ASKED HIM TO MAKE IT RIGHT. HE REPLIED THAT THE CAR IS PERFECTLY SAFE AND THAT IT IS COMPLETELY UP TO ME IF I CHOOSE NOT TO DRIVE IT IN FREEWAY TRAFFIC, AT HIGH SPEEDS, OR LET MY WIFE AND KIDS DRIVE IT. CLEARLY, FORD AND ITS DEALERS HAVE NO INTENTION OF 'DOING THE RIGHT THING' HERE. I TRUST THAT NHTSA FINALLY WILL.
VEHICLE STALLS ERRATICALLY DUE TO A FUEL DELIVERY ISSUE. LEAVES DRIVER STRANDED WITH NO MEANS OF STARTING THE CAR. FORD IS AWARE OF THE ISSUE VIA NHTSA RECALL NUMBER: 18V735 BUT NO SOLUTION HAS BEEN IMPLEMENTED YET.
THE TRANSMISSION HAS BEEN GIVING US PROBLEMS SINCE WE GOT THE VEHICLE. RIGHT NOW, IT IS AGAIN IN THE SHOP. IT IS REPAIRED AND THEN THERE IS ANOTHER PROBLEM WITH THE SAME SYSTEM. WHEN WE TAKE IT INTO THE SHOP, NUMEROUS PROBLEMS SHOW UP. WE HAVE HAD THE VEHICLE FOR ONLY A LITTLE OVER A YEAR SO IT WOULD SEEM TO INDICATE THAT THERE ARE SERIOUS PROBLEMS.

THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURES AND DID NOT ASSIST. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 141,000.

WHILE WAITING IN TRAFFIC ON A HILL OR ACCELERATING UPHILL THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT RANDOMLY TURNS ON AND THE VEHICLE IMMEDIATELY SHUTS OFF. FORD HAS ISSUED A RECALL REGARDING THE FUEL TANK DEFORMATION BUT THEY STATE THAT THE CAR SHOULD NOT HAVE ANY ISSUE WHEN IT'S ABOVE 1/2 OF A TANK. WE RECEIVED A RECALL NOTIFICATION FOR MY VEHICLE IN DECEMBER 2018 FROM FORD. WE WERE TOLD THAT AS LONG AS THE GAS TANK IS FILLED AT 1/2 A TANK, THE VEHICLE IS SAFE TO DRIVE. SINCE WE RECEIVED THE LETTER, MY VEHICLE HAS STALLED ON THE HIGHWAY THREE SEPARATE TIMES, EACH TIME RESULTING IN THE CAR HAVING TO BE PUSHED TO A SAFER LOCATION. IT DOESN'T SEEM LIKE ANYTHING IS BEING DONE TO FIX THE SITUATION AND IT'S BECOMING UNSAFE TO DRIVE. I WANTED TO FILE A COMPLAINT AGAINST FORD MOTOR COMPANY FOR NOT FIXING THIS ISSUE IN A TIMELY MANNER BEFORE IT BECOMES A MORE SERIOUS ISSUE WITH MY HUSBAND BEING HIT BY ANOTHER VEHICLE AT 70+ MPH ON THE HIGHWAY.

WHILE TRAVELING ON A SURFACE STREET, AT APPROXIMATELY 50 MPH THE ENGINE DECELERATED VERY QUICKLY. THE DASH INSTRUMENTATION SHOWED "ENGINE FAULT SERVICE NOW!" I DROVE HOME WITHOUT INCIDENT AND TURNED THE CAR OFF. A HALF HOUR LATER I TRIED TO START THE CAR AND IT DID IT AGAIN. THE CAR HAS BEEN TOWED TO A REPAIR SHOP. MY WIFE IS NOW AFRAID TO DRIVE THIS CAR. IT HAS HAD TRANSMISSION CONTROL MODULE WAS ADJUSTED AND THEN REPLACED. ALSO, THE TRANSMISSION CLUTCH ADJUSTMENT AND THEN REPLACED. THESE ATTEMPTS ONLY WORK TEMPORARILY. THE DEALER TREATS ME LIKE I AM MAKING THIS UP, HOWEVER, THERE IS PLENTY OF INFORMATION AVAILABLE ONLINE WITH REGARD TO THIS ISSUE. THERE WAS A RECENT (MARCH 27, 2017) CLASS ACTION SUIT SETTLED IN CALIFORNIA FOR THIS EXACT PROBLEM. I HAVE ALL OF MY DOCUMENTATION FOR THE MAINTENANCE OF THE VEHICLE. ON OCTOBER 6, 2012 I PURCHASED THIS NEW AUTOMOBILE. FEBRUARY 27, 2013, THE AUTO WAS TAKEN TO A LOCAL DEALER. THERE SEEMED TO BE A SHUDDERING/DRAGGING WHEN THE GAS PEDAL WAS APPLIED FROM A COMPLETE STOP. AN INSPECTION WAS DONE AND NO PROBLEM WAS FOUND (IT WAS HAPPENING SPORADICALLY). AFTER TAKING IT IN A FEW MORE TIMES THEY STILL COULD NOT FIND A PROBLEM. AUGUST 4, 2014 I TOOK CAR A DEALER 110 MILES AWAY. AFTER DESCRIBING WHAT WAS HAPPENING, THE MECHANIC TOLD ME IT WAS PROBABLY THE CLUTCH WAS NOT ENGAGING. THEY REPAIRED IT AND IT SEEMED TO BE DRIVING MUCH BETTER. BY MID 2015, THE CAR STARTED SHUDDERING AGAIN, SO ON NOVEMBER 11, 2015, SINCE I KNEW WHAT WAS THE PROBABLE PROBLEM WAS I TOOK THE CAR TO A LOCAL DEALER AND TOLD THEM WHAT THE OTHER DEALER HAD DONE. THEY VERIFIED THE PROBLEM AND HAD THE CAR FOR SEVERAL DAYS WHILE PARTS WERE ORDERED AND A NEW CLUTCH WAS INSTALLED. THEY TOLD ME THE CAR WAS LEAKING OIL AND THEY WOULD ORDER THE NECESSARY PARTS (NEW CLUTCH). THE CAR WAS BROUGHT IN AGAIN ON 12/8/15 AND LEFT SEVERAL DAYS. THEY AGAIN ORDERED PARTS AND REPLACED DEFECTIVE ONES WITH OTHER PARTS. ON 1/18/16 THE CAR HAD TO BE TOWED TO THE DEALER BECAUSE ALL THE OIL HAD LEAKED OUT OF THE CAR. THE CAR WOULD NOT MOVE AND THERE WAS A COMPUTER MESSAGE STATING THERE WAS A PROBLEM WITH THE TRANSMISSION. AGAIN THE CAR WAS AT THE DEALER FOR SEVERAL DAYS WHILE PARTS WERE ORDERED AND INSTALLED. ON 2/16/16 THE CAR AGAIN WAS BROUGHT INTO THE DEALER. THIS TIME EXTENSIVE WORK WAS DONE ON THE CAR. THREE ENGINES WERE ORDERED AND ANOTHER CLUTCH WAS INSTALLED. I RECEIVED MY CAR BACK THE WEEK OF APRIL 5 (6 WEEKS LATER). ON 7/11/16, THE CAR HAD TO BE TOWED TO THE DEALER (50+ MILES AWAY) BECAUSE THE COMPUTER MESSAGE READ TRANSMISSION HOT STOP CAR IMMEDIATELY. AGAIN ANOTHER CLUTCH WAS PUT IN WITH OTHER PARTS DUE TO THE CLUTCH BREAKING. MY CAR WAS AT THE DEALER FOR ANOTHER 6 DAYS.
ENGINE LIGHT COMES ON, CAR WILL NOT BACK UP, DRIVING CAR WILL HESITATE GOING FORWARD, AND SOMETIMES AS DRIVING HESITATES TO CHANGE GEARS. I STARTED HAVING TRANSMISSION PROBLEMS IN 2014, FORD VALIDATED THE PROBLEM AND PUT A PART ON ORDER IN MAY OF 2015. IN OCTOBER OF 2015 THE PART WAS SCHEDULED TO BE PUT IN BUT THEY RAN OUT OF PARTS SO THE APPOINTMENT WAS POSTPONED. A WEEK OR SO LATER THE TRANSMISSION ISSUE CAUSED AN ACCIDENT. THE TRANSMISSION STALLED/JERKING AS I WAS MAKING A LEFT HAND TURN AND MY SON AND MYSELF WERE STRUCK BY AN ONCOMING VEHICLE. AFTER NUMEROUS ATTEMPTS TO HAVE THE VEHICLE FIXED FOLLOWNING THE ACCIDENT, WE VOLUNTARILY SURRENDERED THE VEHICLE TO FORD CREDIT. THE VEHICLE IS NOT SAFE.
WHEN I STOP AT STOP LIGHTS THE ENGINE VIBRATES AND STOPS WHEN I COME TO A STOP AT TIMES. ALSO THE ENGINE VIBRATES WHEN I CONTINUE TO DRIVE AND ALSO SOMETIMES THE ENGINE CUTS OFF WHILE DRIVING. I BELIEVE IT WAS 10/5 BEFORE I ACTUALLY HAD POSSESSION OF THE CAR.
THE CAR JUST STOPPED IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD. IT DID NOT START AGAIN. I HAD TO BE TOWED. THE CAR WAS IN MOTION AND IT JUST STALLED AND DID NOT START UP AGAIN. IT WAS ON A BUSY STREET. THOUGHT MAYBE IT WAS THE TRANSMISSION SLIPPING, IT WAS VERY SCARY AS THERE WERE A LOT OF CARS ON THE ROAD SINCE I TEAS THANKSGIVING DAY.

THIS PROBLEM CAUSES THE CAR TO SHUDDER VIOLENTLY WHEN ACCELERATING FROM A STOP OR NEARLY ANY TIME THE TRANSMISSION CHANGES GEARS. IT HAS HAPPENED SINCE I PURCHASED THE CAR. IT MAKES IT SCARY TO DRIVE WHEN THE CAR RESPONDS UNPREDICTABLY -- LURCHING FORWARD TOWARD ANOTHER CAR OR NOT ACCELERATING WHEN GETTING ON A HIGHWAY. FORD SHOULD HAVE TO RECALL ALL CARS WITH THIS FAULTY TRANSMISSION. I'VE HAD IT SERVICED UNDER WARRANTY 3 TIMES FOR THIS ISSUE AND FORD CANNOT FIX IT. CAR SHAKES AND DOES NOT DRIVE AT AN EVEN PACE UNLESS ON THE HIGHWAY AT OR ABOVE 40 MPH. BEEN TO THE DEALER NUMEROUS TIMES ABOUT THESE PROBLEMS, ALL TO WHICH THEY HAVE NO ANSWERS FOR.
I WAS IN HEAVY TRAFFIC, STOP AND START, AND WHEN I RE-ACCELERATED AFTER GOING VERY SLOWLY THE CAR DID NOT GO AND THEN IT JUST DIED. I TURNED CAR OFF, GOT IT STARTED WITHIN 200 YARDS IT DIED AGAIN. I ONCE AGAIN TURNED CAR OFF, RESTARTED IT AND WAS ABLE TO PULL OFF THE ROAD. IN THE MEANTIME, PEOPLE BEHIND ME WERE HONKING WILDLY. LUCKILY, NO ONE REAR ENDED ME. I WAS ABLE TO GET CAR TO MY MECHANIC WHO TOLD ME THE FORD PEOPLE NEEDED TO LOOK AT IT. THIS MORNING THE CAR WAS TOWED AS IT NOW DOES NOT EVEN TURN ON. FORD PEOPLE SAID THEY HAD NO IDEA WHAT IT COULD BE. IF I HAD BEEN ON A HIGHWAY IN STOP AND GO TRAFFIC LIKE THAT I MIGHT HAVE BEEN SERIOUSLY HURT. FORD SEEMS TO BE UNAWARE OF ANY PROBLEMS. 2013 FORD FOCUS WAS GOING 35 MPH, SAW A LATE 1990'S FORD RANGER STOP SHORT IN FRONT OF A FIRE STATION AND TRIED TO BRAKE. COULDN'T STOP IN TIME AND REAR ENDED THE FORD RANGER. THE DRIVER OF THE FOCUS GOT OUT OF THE VEHICLE AND TO SPEAK TO THE OTHER DRIVER AND THE ENGINE OF THE FOCUS CAUGHT FIRE ABOUT 30 SECONDS LATER. FIREMEN WERE ACROSS THE STREET AND CAME OVER TO EXTINGUISH THE FIRE. WITH ALL OF THIS, THE AIRBAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. I CALLED FORD TO ALERT THEM OF THIS ISSUE. THEY GAVE ME A CASE NUMBER AND WITHIN 1 BUSINESS DAY I WAS CONTACTED BY CUSTOMER CARE. THEY SAID THEY WOULD INSPECT THE VEHICLE TO AT A LOCAL DEALERSHIP TO FIND OUT WHY THE AIRBAGS DIDN'T DEPLOY. THEY SAID THEY WOULD NOT COVER THE COST AND WERE VAGUE ABOUT WHAT THE NEXT STEPS WERE AND HOW LONG THE PROCESS WOULD TAKE. A FEW DAYS AFTER I PURCHASED THIS VEHICLE, I WENT BACK TO THE DEALER AND TOLD THEM IT WAS STUTTERING ON TAKE OFF. I WAS TOLD "THIS IS NORMAL, THE CAR WAS GETTING USE TO A DIFFERENT DRIVER, TO SAVE ON GAS, AND THAT IT SHOULD GET BETTER THE LONGER I DROVE IT". IT DID NOT GOT BETTER, BUT WORSE. THE SERVICE MANAGER TOLD ME THAT EVEN AFTER THIS WAS DONE IT WOULD STILL HAVE A SHUTTER, JUST NOT SO BAD. I TRIED TO TRADE THE VEHICLE IN, BUT I'M GOING TO LOSE AROUND $5000, IN ONE MONTHS TIME. THUS VEHICLE SHOULD NEVER HAVE BEEN SOLD TO ME, I FEEL THAT I WAS LIED TO AND DECEIVED. FINALLY TOOK THE CAR BACK IN BECAUSE IT WAS GETTING WORSE, AND THIS TIME THE THROTTLE BODY WAS REPROGRAMMED (WHICH I WAS ORIGINALLY TOLD WAS COMPLETELY REPLACED, BUT WASN'T THE CASE) COME TO FIND OUT THIS A COMMON ISSUE IN FORD VEHICLES BUT NO RECALL ISSUED, JUST PART OF THE NHTSA CUSTOMER SATISFACTION PROGRAM. MANY OF THE MODELS IN THIS PROGRAM WERE ISSUED A EXTENDED WARRANTY, BUT NOT THE FOCUS. AFTER A FEW DAYS, I NOTICED HESITATION/SHUDDERING, JERKING, AND GRINDING WHEN ACCELERATING FROM A STAND-STILL/"OFF THE LINE" AS WELL AS WHEN THE CAR WAS DOWNSHIFTING FROM HIGHER GEARS. I CALLED MY DEALER, NAZARETH FORD IN NAZARETH, PA, TO REPORT THE ISSUE. I WAS TOLD BY THE DEALER THAT THIS WAS "NORMAL" FOR THE TRANSMISSION, WHICH IS A "MANUAL AUTOMATIC" TRANSMISSION. I WAS SKEPTICAL, BUT I WAS ADVISED TO DRIVE 500 MILES AND SEE IF THE PROBLEM CORRECTED ITSELF. I WAS DISCOURAGED TO MAKE AN APPOINTMENT, SINCE THIS WAS SUPPOSED TO BE "NORMAL" AND I HAD NOT REACHED 500 MILES YET TO SEE IF IT WOULD IMPROVE. IT NEVER DID AND HAS ONLY GOTTEN WORSE. LAST WEEK AFTER ALMOST A YEAR AND 17,500 MILES WITH NO IMPROVEMENT, I WAS FED UP. I CALLED THE DEALER TO MAKE AN AN APPOINTMENT. THE DEALER KEPT THE CAR TWO DAYS AND REPORTED THAT THEY REPROGRAMMED THE TRANSMISSION. I PICKED THE CAR UP LAST SATURDAY AND AFTER 15 MINUTES OR LESS, THE ISSUES RETURNED. I CONTACTED THE DEALER AGAIN AND THE PERSON DID NOT RETURN MY PHONE CALL. I VISITED IN PERSON AND WAS ADVISED AGAIN THAT I SHOULD DRIVE ANOTHER 500 MILES SO THE REPROGRAM COULD TAKE EFFECT. THE DEALER COMMENTED THAT A NUMBER OF CUSTOMERS HAVE COME BACK FOR PREMATURE TRANSMISSION REPLACEMENTS, WHICH DID NOT LEAVE ME WITH A GREAT FEELING. THIS ISSUE HAS PROVED TO BE POTENTIALLY LIFE-THREATENING ON A NUMBER OF OCCASIONS, SUCH AS COMING TO A STOP AT THE END OF AN INTERSECTION, RED LIGHT, OR HIGHWAY RAMP BEFORE ACCELERATING BACK UP TO SPEED AND CLIMBING ANY SORT OF HILL. JERKING AND GRINDING PREVENTS THE CAR FROM ACCELERATING SMOOTHLY. WHILE I AM OTHERWISE HAPPY WITH THE FEATURES OF THE CAR, THIS IS A DEAL-BREAKER. I BOUGHT A BRAND NEW 2013 FORD FOCUS IN JANUARY 2013 AFTER HAVING PREVIOUSLY OWNED A 2011 FORD FOCUS THAT WAS HAVING TRANSMISSION ISSUES. THE DEALERSHIP HAD TOLD ME THAT THE 2013 FOCUS MODELS HAD A REDONE TRANSMISSION THAT WAS MORE EXPENSIVE AND DIDN'T HAVE THE "ISSUES" THAT PLAGUED THE 2011 FORD FOCUS. TURNS OUT IT IS THE SAME TRANSMISSION, EXCEPT WITH A COMPUTER UPDATE WHICH DOES NOT FIX THE ISSUE. WITHIN THE FIRST FEW WEEKS, MY CAR WAS 'SHUDDERING' FOR LACK OF A BETTER DESCRIPTION WHEN ACCELERATING; THE RPM'S GO UP SPORADICALLY TO, REVVING THE ENGINE HIGHER THAN IT NEEDS TO GO. IT FEELS ALMOST LIKE IT'S GOING TO DIE AND THEN WILL CATCH THE GEAR AND GO. I HAVE TAKEN MY CURRENT CAR IN FOR SERVICE ONCE FOR ANOTHER UPDATE, BUT MY 2011 WAS IN THE SHOP MULTIPLE TIMES TO FIX THIS ISSUE, AND ALWAYS CAME BACK TO ME DOING THE SAME 'SHUDDERING' AS IT DID BEFORE IT WENT IN. I CALLED FORD AND THEY SAID THEY WOULD TALK TO MY DEALER AND THEY WOULD TAKE CARE OF IT. WELL, BY TAKING CARE OF IT, THEY MEANT THAT THERE IS ANOTHER 'UPDATE'. I HAD IT UPDATED ON 8/26/13 AND I PICKED IT UP ONLY TO FIND THAT THE SHUDDERING IS WORSE. IT'S NOT SAFE TO TRY AND DRIVE A CAR THAT SHUDDERS AND LAGS WHEN YOU HAVE TO CROSS BUSY STREETS AND IN NORMAL DAILY TRAFFIC. I'M TIRED OF DEALING WITH THIS ISSUE ESPECIALLY BEING THAT I BOUGHT A NEW CAR. AND AN AMERICAN CAR AT THAT. FORD NEEDS TO HAVE SOME INTEGRITY AND FIX THIS BEFORE I DO WHAT I WANT TO DO AND GO BUY A HONDA OR NISSAN.
I WAS ON MY WAY TO WORK ON 12/23/2013 AND ON THE DASHBOARD OF MY CAR SAID ENGINE FAULT CHECK SYSTEM NOW LIGHT CAME ON AND THE CAR IMMEDIATELY SHUT DOWN ON ME ON THE EXPRESSWAY I TRIED SEVERAL TIMES CRANKING MY CAR BUT IT WOULDN'T START SO I CALL IDOT TO HELP ME THEY CAME AND TOWED ME TO THE NEAREST EXIT AFTER AN HOUR AND A HALF MY CAR STARTED UP BUT THE ENGINE SYMBOL REMAIN ON THE DASHBOARD I WAS ABLE TO DRIVE IT BACK HOME I WAITED FOR JOE RIZZO FORD TO OPEN AND THEN I TOOK MY CAR TO THEM THEY ENDED UP KEEPING MY CAR AND I HAD TO RENT ME A CAR UNTIL THE PROBLEM WAS FIX JOE RIZZO FORD SAID THEY WILL CALL ME WHEN THE PROBLEM IS FIX--> THE CAR THEY GAVE ME WAS ANOTHER FORD FOCUS 2013 AND WHAT DO YOU KNOW THE FREAKING ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON IN THE RENTAL CAR I HAD MY PERSONAL CAR FOR A YEAR NOW THERE IS NO WAY THAT I SHOULD BE HAVING ENGINE PROBLEMS OR ANYTHING ELSE WRONG WITH THIS CAR FORD REALLY NEEDS TO GET THESE PROBLEMS FIX BEFORE AN ACCIDENT HAPPEN TO SOMEONE. *TR
TWO WEEKS PRIOR TO THIS INCIDENT I WENT AND TOOK IT FOR A MAINTENANCE OIL APPOINTMENT, ON DECEMBER 3 AS I STARTED THE VEHICLE, IT WOULD NOT START, IT KEPT MARKING CHECK ENGINE, IT LEFT ME STRANDED ON THE MIDDLE OF MY STREET BOYLSTON STREET, BOSTON, AFTER SEVERAL ATTEMPTS IT WOULD START BUT NOT GET TOO FAR. I THEN HAD IT TOWED TO QUIRK IN QUINCY. *TR

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE IT WAS CONFIRMED THAT THE MAIN SEAL, CLUTCH PACK AND FRONT SEALS HAD FAILED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED ABOUT THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 10,000.
WHEN SHIFTING THE CAR FROM FIRST TO SECOND, A VERY LOUD BANGING SOUND WAS HEARD. CHECKED ONLINE FOR SIMILAR PROBLEMS AND FOUND THAT FORD HAD ISSUED A TSB FOR THIS PROBLEM ON JUNE 10, 2013. WENT BACK TO THE DEALER AND INFORMED THEM OF MY PROBLEM AND THE TSB. WAS TOLD THAT THEY WOULD HAVE TO EXPERIENCE THE PROBLEM BEFORE THEY WOULD ORDER PARTS. HAD TO MAKE AN APPOINTMENT FOR THEM TO DRIVE THE CAR AND LEAVE IT AN ENTIRE DAY. WENT BACK JULY 18, 2013. DEALER HAD A TECH DRIVE THE CAR, AND YES, THERE WAS A PROBLEM. PARTS ORDERED. AFTER WAITING WEEKS, WAS TOLD THAT THERE IS A NATIONWIDE BACKORDER ON PARTS. AFTER HITTING 3000 MILES, STARTED TO HAVE SEVERE STEERING ISSUES. WHEN SHIFTING INTO SECOND OR THIRD UNDER ACCELERATION, THE WOULD ALMOST MAKE A RIGHT TURN. AND THEN WHEN ACCELERATING IN SECOND AND THIRD, THE STEERING WHEEL WOULD VIBRATE SO BAD I HAD TO HANG ON FOR DEAR LIFE. BACK TO THE DEALER. THEY MADE A CALL TO FORD ENGINEERING WHO SAID THAT NEW MOUNTS WOULD FIX THE STEERING ISSUES. IN AUGUST, I STARTED CALLING HEATHER AT FORD CUSTOMER SERVICE. EXPLAINED ABOUT THE BACKORDER AND MY STEERING ISSUES. TOLD HER I WAS AFRAID TO DRIVE THE CAR. SHE SAID SHE WOULD TRY TO EXPEDITE THE PARTS. AFTER WEEKS OF NO RESULTS, TALKED TO HER ABOUT ME BUYING AFTERMARKET MOUNTS THAT ARE AVAILABLE. SHE SAID FORD WOULD NOT AUTHORIZE ANYTHING BUT FORD PARTS. I SAID THAT WOULD BE ACCEPTABLE IF FORD WOULD COME UP WITH THE PARTS. I AM NOW BEING TOLD THAT PARTS MIGHT BE HERE IN OCTOBER. WORD ON THE WEB IS THAT DELIVERY WILL MOST LIKELY BE NOVEMBER OR NEXT YEAR. FINALLY BROKE DOWN AND BOUGHT MY OWN MOUNTS AT A COST OF $369. MY SAFETY IS WORTH THAT MUCH. I WILL TRY TO GET MY MONEY BACK FROM FORD, WAITED 9000 MILES FOR THEM TO FIX IT. *JS

I HAVE A FORD FOCUS EV 2013. TWICE THE CAR HAS SHUT DOWN WHILE DRIVING AND THE MESSAGE APPEARS ASKING YOU TO PULL OVER AND STOP. THIS IS POTENTIALLY VERY DANGEROUS. FURTHER, THE SYNC SOFTWARE DOES NOT WORK PROPERLY. THE GPS SHOWS WRONG LOCATION, INCLUDING THAT THE CAR IS AT THE MICHIGAN ASSEMBLY PLANT, CLOCK SHOWS WRONG TIME, PHONE DOES NOT CONNECT OR WILL NOT DISCONNECT AND THE REAR CAMERA PICTURE SHOWS WHILE DRIVING FORWARD. *JB
I WENT AND TRADED IN MY MUSTANG FOR SOMETHING WITH BETTER GAS MILEAGE WHICH ENDED UP BEING A 2013 FORD FOCUS (MANUAL AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION). THE FIRST ONE I GOT WAS IN THE SHOP 4 TIMES FOR GRINDING NOISES WHEN IT TRIED TO SHIFT INTO GEAR. THE FIRST TIME THEY BARELY HAD IT A DAY AND TOLD ME THERE WAS NOTHING WRONG WITH IT. THE SECOND THROUGH THE REST OF THE TIMES I HAD IT OUT THERE THEY JUST REBOOTED THE COMPUTER AND SAID IT IS FINE AND WILL BE FINE. NOT EVEN TWO DAYS LATER I WAS ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND COULD GET THE CAR TO MOVE. I BARELY MADE 3 PAYMENTS ON THAT CAR. I KEPT TELLING THEM THIS WAS A LEMON AND THEY WOULDN'T TAKE IT BACK. WHEN I TOOK IT BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP THE LADY I TALKED TO SAID "WELL MY SONS FOCUS HASN'T BEEN GIVING HIM ANY TROUBLE. THAT MADE ME REALLY PISSY. I TOLD THE LADY I DIDN'T CARE ABOUT HER SONS CAR YOU SHOULD FIX MINE. I WENT TO ANOTHER DEALERSHIP TO SEE IF THEY HAD ANOTHER FOCUS THAT DIDN'T HAVE THE "MANUAL AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION" AND THEY DID SO I GOT THAT ONE INSTEAD OF THE PIECE OF CRAP I HAD. VEHICLE HAS HAD OIL LEAKING INTO ENGINE COMPARTMENT SINCE PURCHASED IN NOVEMBER 2012. AT 3000 MILES, REAR ENGINE SEAL REPLACED - LEAKS CONTINUED. REAR MAIN ENGINE SEAL REPLACED AGAIN AT 8000 MILES - ENGINE COMPARTMENT LEAKS CONTINUED. AFTER TWO MORE VISITS TO DEALER AND TWO ADDITIONAL TRIP TO DIFFERENT DEALERS, THIRD SERVICE DEPT. CLAIMS THAT TRANSMISSION IS SOURCE OF LEAK, NOT ENGINE. IF THIS IS THE CASE, THEN VEHICLE HAS BEEN DRIVEN FOR OVER 11,250 MILES WITH INSUFFICIENT TRANSMISSION LUBRICANT - GREAT CAUSE FOR CONCERN. *TR
WE WERE DRIVING EASTBOUND ON 290 AT 1ST AVE.OUR VEHICLE STOPPED ACCELERATING. WE PULLED OVER TO THE SHOULDER. WE CALLED THE FORD 1-800 NUMBER AND REQUESTED TOW SERVICE AND THAT AN ILLINOIS TROOPER BE CALLED. WE ALSO CALLED THE DEALERSHIP WHERE WE PURCHASED THE BRAND NEW CAR. THE PERSON AT THE DEALERSHIP SUGGESTED WE TRY STARTING THE CAR AGAIN. SECONDS AFTER STARTING THE CAR AGAIN, A FLAME BURST OUT OF THE FRONT HOOD. WE EVACUATED THE VEHICLE. MOMENTS LATER MORE FLAMES APPEARED , FOLLOWED BY THE ENTIRE FRONT OF THE CAR BECOMING ENGULFED IN FLAMES. *TR
THE CAR SPUTTERS AND RATTLES WHEN LETTING THE FOOT OFF THE BRAKE WHEN IT IS AT A STAND STILL. IT FEELS AS IF IT IS TRYING TO START IN 2ND GEAR. THE PROBLEM IS GETTING INCREASINGLY WORSE.
