STRUCTURE:BODY:DOOR
Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain model year 2013-2014 Escape vehicles manufactured October 5, 2011, through April 10, 2014. Due to an assembly misalignment between the exterior door handle and the door outer panel, the affected vehicles have doors that may be difficult to close or may possibly open while driving.
Fix: Ford will notify owners, and dealers will inspect and correct the mounting of the door handles, as necessary, free of charge. The recall began on May 30, 2014. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-800-392-3673. Ford's number for this recall is 14S03.

On 10/12/2025, we noticed the driver's side rear door would not latch properly while shopping. We contacted the dealer the following Monday and dropped the vehicle off for inspection on 10/15/2025 at Classic Ford of Columbia, SC. Two open recalls were identified: Manufacturer Recall 16S30 (NHTSA 16V643) - Door Safety Latch: The pawl spring tab in the side door latch broke, preventing secure latching. The recall requires replacing both latches. The failed door latch assembly is available for inspection at the dealership. Manufacturer Recall 18S20 (NHTSA 18V471) - Transmission Shifter Cable Bushing: The bushing is degraded or detached. Safety Risk: The rear door failure risks the door opening unexpectedly while driving, potentially causing ejection or injury to occupants/others. The shifter bushing risks the vehicle rolling if not properly in Park. The issues were confirmed by the authorized Ford dealership during the 10/15/2025 inspection. The vehicle has been inspected by the dealership; no other inspections noted. No warning lamps or prior symptoms before the door failure on 10/12/2025. Shifter bushing symptoms unknown. The dealer claimed to fix the shifter bushing on 10/15/2025, but both recalls remain "Incomplete". The rear door latch is unfixed, requiring bungee cords to secure it. The vehicle has been driven this way for nearly 4 months. We contacted Ford (case XXX) and escalation began. After weather closure, we were told an appointment would be rescheduled. I emailed Tiffany from Ford last night (~10PM 2/5/2026) and called today (2/6/2026); no response yet. This ongoing safety defect endangers the driver who needs the car for work. NHTSA Recall Number 16V643 After 3 attempts in 2 years, it is become evidential that Ford dealers are deliberately NOT willing to complete this recall for customer, probably because it takes too much time. [XXX]: rear left door latch failed. Call Robinson Brothers Ford, 11455 Airline Hwy, Baton Rouge, LA 70816, was told there is no parts, so I had to replace it by myself using part bought from Amazon. 1st attempt: 23-Feb-2023 to 27-Feb-2023 at Robinson Brothers Ford, 11455 Airline Hwy, Baton Rouge, LA 70816 Called weeks in advance in order to complete all recalls, and called few days earlier to confirm door latch, and was told they have spare parts so I left the car there. All recalls were completed except 16V643, and I was told they had no spare parts by shop representative. Register cell phone number with them for spare parts update and NEVER receive any update till now. 20-Oct-2024: front left door latch failed. 2nd attempt: on 21-Oct-2024 call AutoNation Ford Katy, 20777 Katy Fwy, Katy, TX 77450, the lady (Christina) told me they have no spare parts. 22-Oct-2024: once again, I replace the door latch by myself using spare parts bought from Amazon. 3rd attempt: on 23-Oct-2024: I drove by AutoNation Ford Katy, 20777 Katy Fwy, Katy, TX 77450, the exact the same shop I called 2 days ago, the service representative (Austin) check the inventory, found 1 set of spare parts, and promised me recall can be completed in 24 to 48 hours. When I pick up the car 50 hours later, the job is NOT even started for one door. As such, I officially file this claim to urge NHTSA to investigate what is the percentage completion for this recall for Ford? It takes me 2-3 hours to replace 1 door latch, that may be takes too time for dealer and therefore they chose to put the safety of customer at the lowest priority, and bet on customer running out of patience to replace by themselves, just like I have done, TWICE. The rear door panel gets stuck in the door frame, preventing the door from opening. This happens with all of the screws and clips firmly in place but the problem does eventually loosen and dislodge clips. It seems to be that the panel is a little too big for the door frame. Looking for solutions, the problem is very common and many people have attempted to fix it with little success. We have two small children who sit in the back in car seats and we have to put them both in and out from the one door that doesn’t get stuck. This has been an issue for about two years now and has damaged the panel so much that it nearly rips off when attempting to open the door. I have read that Ford has acknowledged the problem but has not issued a recall. Clearly a safety issue to not be able to open a door.
Our Ford Escape 2014 has two safety recalls. My complaint is that they didn't fix it timely. One of the door latches failed and the door was opened by itself on the road in August 2022. I have taken the car to a local FORD dealership and got it inspected. They said they would request the parts and fix it. However, nothing happened after weeks of waiting. I have checked back many times, and they kept saying that the parts were not available. Now, we have been driving a car that has one door unlocked for the past 1.5 years. How to solve this? FYI. Dealer name and address, Mission Valley Ford Truck Sls. 780 East Brokaw Rd, San Jose, CA 95112 (408) 471-2302. I also contacted the FORD customer service department in 2022; they asked me to check with the local dealership for parts availability.
Contacted Ford again fourth time about saftey recall=20S30/20V331. I've been trying to get this fixed since i got the vehicle and recall letters from Ford. Multiple failed attempts because dealership's in my area stood me up, told me they dont do recalls, and said it was basically my fault for buying Ford. Ford customer service is no help, all they say is get in touch with my local dealership's to get it resolved. Duh!! Thats what I've been trying to do, then they give me contact details for dealerships that already stood me up and who said they cant fix the recall. So why bother. Unbelievable, i might as well just contact the dealership i purchased from and surrender the vehicle. Never will i buy Ford again!! Their customer service is lousy!
Ive been trying to get my local Ford dealer to fix this saftey recall but have just been ignored. First time i called my local dealer (Boggus Ford) in harlingen, TX, they just changed there name to Sames Harlingen Ford. They made a mobile appointment for me in April 21st at 9am, no one showed up i didn't even get a call. I called them to see why no one showed up. They told me my appointment was at the dealership and i didn't show up. I was angry and mad because they just lied to me, i have the texts from the dealership service team and a automated reminder that my appointment was mobile at 9am. I said get me another appt, the next appt was on the 26th of April at 9am it was mobile. Then the night of the 25th i get a notification that my appointment tomorrow is at the dealership at 8.30 am. I was dumbfounded, thats not what was discussed, it was mobile,(i have the texts) i couldn't go in to the dealership because my husband was working on the tires. So another missed appt by the dealership's error not mine. I called again no one answers me. I decided to contact Ford customer service directly, they said they will get in touch with another local Ford dealer to fix my saftey recall but, didnt get a reply back. I contacted Ford again same thing, no reply. In the mean time my doirs fling open when on the highway. First time was a scare, sone of my things in the car flew out. Good thing no one got hurt. And lots of times i see my door open out of nowhere. But now i have to physically tie the doors inside so they wont fling open. Either that or not drive it, which means i cant work. Ive contacted another Ford dealer near me and they said they dont do saftey recalls, so i guess im left with defective doors. I just want this recall fixed!
Hood latch became un bolted and opened on the freeway going about 60mph . smashed the windshield and damaged the hood .
My driver passenger door does not close anymore as of 7/9/2023. My 2-year-old son could have flown out the door as he sits on that side in his car seat.
The driver side rear door can not be opened. It appears the paneling of the door is caught on the frame, which prevents the operation of the door. This has been reported twice to the dealership, and so far they have ignored the request to inspect or fix it. In an emergency if needed passengers would not be able to exit through this door, which would put that at risk if the car were pinned on one side and the front too damaged to operate. Also the rear camera has failed and does not operate. This is the second camera to do so as the first was replaced under warranty a few years after purchasing the vehicle. If a child were behind the vehicle there would be no way to know looking over your shoulder, as you could only see them on camera. The only warning or indicator of the camera failure is a black screen with a message that you need to contact a service professional.
If the rear door (both passenger and driver side) is closed in an aggressive way (such as a child closing a door as hard as they can) the plastic paneling on the door can be "dislodged" sliding down and jamming with the metal door frame making the door unable to open from either the inside or outside. In the event of an emergency, the door would not be able to be opened leaving a child or passenger trapped in the vehicle. A jolt from a low speed crash (not directly on the door) could cause the door plastic to dislodge causing the door to jam leaving children or passengers in the back unable to exit the vehicle safety. The issues has been reproduced only by myself, that I am aware of; (first happened on drive side and then reproduced on passenger side) and could most likely be repeated on similar models preforming repeated aggressive door closes. This issues was brought to a certified Ford dealer and they made notes in the repair that the plastic was dislodged wedging with the metal door frame. The only warning signs were screws falling off the door panels and the plastic separating from the door through normal use and driving.
The contact owns a 2014 Ford Escape. The contact stated that as her husband grabbed the front passenger's side assist grab handle to adjust himself in the front passenger's side seat, the grab handle fractured and separated from the vehicle. The contact stated that the failure reoccurred while her husband was grabbing the rear passenger's side grab handle to exit the vehicle. The contact stated that her husband fell on the ground and sustained a sore right ankle and bruises on and above the knee of the left foot. Additionally, the contact's husband sustained back pain. The contact's husband had not sought medical assistance. The dealer and the manufacturer were not notified of the failure. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 162,000.
The contact owns a 2014 Ford Escape. The contact stated that the transmission was previously replaced. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the check engine warning light illuminated. Additionally, the driver's side rear door had fractured from daily use, and the contact had to continuously refill the coolant reservoir due to the loss of coolant in the vehicle. The vehicle was not diagnosed nor repaired by an independent mechanic or dealer. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 82,024.
While driving on HWY 65-N, the interior lights came on and on the LCD we got a warning sound & message saying that the rear left door was open !!, we panic b/c our dog was in the back seat, we thought that he had open it, we rushed to the stop on the side of the hwy, we try, and try to closed the door, it never latched, we had to "secure" the door with my belt. very scary and dangerous situation. never got a warning about it; we went directly to the dealer that we bought it from, they inspected the problem, and said that we had to pay for the repair... why?
The contact owns a 2014 Ford Escape. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the front-end experienced shaking and vibrations. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who diagnosed that the motor mount had fractured. The cause of the failure was not determined. The vehicle was not yet repaired. The local dealer and manufacturer were notified but no assistance was offered. The failure mileage was 90,000.
UNDER RECALL 20S30 I DID ON LINE CHECK.IT CAME BACK RIGHT SIDE REAR DOOR NEED FIXED.WHEN I REDID CHECK I PUT IN WRONG NUMBER IT CAME BACK OK AND CLOSED RECALL.NOW FORD DEALER CAN'T FIX PROBLEM
RECEIVED SAFETY RECALL NOTICE 20S30 TOLD TO REPORT DOOR LATCH DATE CODES ON DOORS -HOWEVER THE WEB SITE GIVEN IN NOTICE PROVIDES NO WAY TO INPUT RESULTS
MY DOOR LATCH ON MY VEHICLE HAS BEEN BROKE FOR 2 MONTHS . I COULDN'T AFFORD TO FIX THEN BUT AS SOON AS I HEARD ABOUT THE RECALL I CALL FORD HERE IN MARLIN,TX.76661. THEY SAY BRING IN ON THIS DAY SO I DID AT 8AM . BEFORE 5 THAT SAME DAY I GO BACK AND THE GENTLEMAN SAID THEY DIDN'T GET TO FIX IT THERE AREN'T ANY PARTS FORD HAS SENT OUT THEY WOULD CALL ME IN A FEW DAYS. NEVER GOT A CALL BUT WHEN SOMEONE CALLS UP THERE AND STARTS ASKING ABOUT IT WHEN IT'S THERE SAFETY AT RISK AND IT'S THE ONLY VEHICLE THEY HAVE WHAT IS SUPPOSED TO HAPPEN. MY SEATBELT WON'T SAVE ME FOREVER AND THIS IS THE SECOND RECALL FOR THIS ISSUE . I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW WHEN THE ISSUE IS GOING TO BE PRIORITY FOR CONSUMERS LIKE ME. THIS HAPPENED WHILE I WAS SITTING AND WENT TO OPEN DOOR AND GOT OUT WENT TO SHUT DOOR AND IT WOULDN'T LATCH. TYING DOOR WITH ROPE TO STEERING COLUMN JUST TO DRIVE ANYWHERE. *TR
THE LIFTGATE SEPARATED THE OUTSIDE FROM THE INSIDE.
THE DRIVER'S SIDE DOOR LATCH IS DEFECTIVE. IT HAS OPENED WHILE DRIVING. I HAVE TAKEN IT IN TO GET FIXED SEVERAL TIMES AND IT NEVER GETS FIXED PROPERLY. IF THE DOOR IS CLOSED AND YOU GO TO OPEN IT, THE DOOR HANDLE WILL STAY OUT AND IT WILL NOT CLOSE. THIS PROBLEM FIRST HAPPENED AROUND 2015 AND IT HAS BEEN A PROBLEM EVER SINCE.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2014 FORD ESCAPE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 15 MPH, THE REAR PASSENGER SIDE DOOR OPENED. THE CONTACT PULLED OVER ONTO THE ROAD SHOULDER AND CLOSED THE DOOR. THE CONTACT TIED THE DOOR HANDLE TO SECURE THE DOOR FROM RE-OPENING. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC BUT WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 14V239000 (STRUCTURE). THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 93,000.
WHEN OPENING THE DRIVERS DOOR SOMETIMES A NOISE COMES FROM THE REAR OF THE VEHICLE. IT LASTS ABOUT 1 TO 2 SECONDS AND SOUNDS LIKE A RATCHETING NOISE. THE VEHICLE IS PARKED. IT HAS BEEN IN SERVICE FOR TWO WEEKS AND THEY CAN'T DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM. I TOOK A VIDEO AND SHOWED TO THEM WITH SOUND. ALSO LAST SUMMER IT WAS IN SERVICE FOR A WEEK WITH NO RESULTS. I SAW A POSSIBLE CAUSE ON THE INTERNET WHICH WAS INVOLVING THE FUEL PUMP. *TR
REAR DRIVER DOOR OPNE WHILE DRIVING!
THE VEHICLE WAS BEING DRIVEN AND HAD ONLY BEEN STARTED AND MOVING FOR LESS THAN 5 MINUTES. NOTICED THAT WINDSHIELD WIPERS WOULD NOT SHUT OFF OR CHANGE SPEEDS, THEN NOTICED A SLIGHT ODOR IN CAR THAT INCREASINGLY STRENGTHENED. PHONED MY HUSBAND WHILE AT A STOP LIGHT, ODOR OF SOMETHING BURNING BECAME MUCH STRONGER, THEN NOTICED SMOKE COMING BETWEEN THE THE DRIVERS SIDE HOOD SEAM AND BETWEEN THE HOOD AND THE WINDSHIELD, THIS WAS IMMEDIATELY FOLLOWED BY NOTICABLE FLAME. I PUT THE VEHICLE IN PARK, TURNED ON HAZARD LIGHTS AND EXITED THE VEHICLE. LOCAL POLICE AND FIRE DEPARTMENT RESPONDED, BEGAN WITH SMALL FIRE EXTINGUISHERS, WITHOUT SUCCESS AND FIRE DEPARTMENT OPENED HOOD AND APPLIED WATER TO EXTINGUISH. THIS WAS ON A CITY STREET IN O'FALLON, MO. UNCERTAIN OF CAUSE, BUT AM NOW AWARE THAT FORD ISSUED A RECALL ON THIS MODEL (RECALL 17S09) AND BELIEVE THIS COULD BE A POSSIBILITY.
EXTERIOR PASSENGER SIDE DOOR HANDLE FELL OFF. THE VEHICLE WAS STATIONARY. IT FELL OFF WHILE OPENING THE DOOR
VEHICLE HAD RECALL WORK DONE REGARDING FOR HANDLES, SINCE THEN I HAVE EXPERIENCED NOT STOP ISSUES WITH DRIVERS DOOR HANDLE GETTING STUCK IN OPEN POSITION WHICH CAUSES THE DOOR NOT TO SECURELY LATCH CLOSED. I HAVE BROUGHT THE VEHICLE BACK AND WAS TOLD IT'S JUST A LUBRICATION ISSUE.
BOTH REAR DOORS ON MY 2014 FORD ESCAPE SUDDENLY STOPPED OPENING EITHER FROM THE INSIDE OR THE OUTSIDE THEREBY TRAPPING THE PEOPLE IN THE BACK SEAT WITHOUT A WAY TO EXIT THE CAR. THIS HAPPENED SUDDENLY. YESTERDAY THE DOORS WORKED FINE THEN TODAY BROKEN. NOTHING CHANGED WITH THE VEHICLE....NO ACCIDENTS OR ABUSE OF ANY KIND. CAR WAS LOCATED IN MY DRIVEWAY.
ON DEC 31, 2018 OUR 2014 FORD ESCAPE HAD RECALL 16S30 COMPLETED AT RICHMOND FORD WEST IN GLEN ALLEN VA. KIT CJ5Z54264A26A, TO INCLUDE 4 DOOR LATCHES WAS USED TO REPLACE THE ORIGINAL 4 DOOR LATCHES ON THE RECALL INVOICE S212041. THE DEALERSHIP DOCUMENTED THE RECALL REPAIR AS 1.4 HOURS TO GET INSIDE THE DOORS AND PERFORM THE WARRANTY SERVICE. WE WERE NOT CHARGED FOR THE RECALL REPAIR. PRIOR TO THIS REPLACEMENT, AND AS SOLE OWNERS OF THE 2014 ESCAPE, WE HAD NOT HAD AN ISSUE WITH DOOR LATCH FAILURE. ON AUG 31, 2019 IN OXNARD, CA WE EXPERIENCED A DOOR LATCH FAILURE ON THE DRIVER SIDE REAR DOOR; IT UNEXPECTEDLY OPENED WHEN WE PARKED. WE WERE NOT ABLE TO CLOSE, LATCH OR SECURE THE DOOR. THE CAR DOOR ALERT SYSTEM INDICATED A DOOR WAS OPEN. WHEN WE ATTEMPTED TO CLOSE THE DOOR, IT WOULD JUST BOUNCE BACK OPEN. WE REFERRED TO THE OWNER'S MANUAL FOR A QUICK FIX AND FOLLOWED THE MANUAL LOCK INSTRUCTIONS AND IT DID NOT WORK. WE SECURED THE DOOR BY ATTACHING A BUNGEE CORD TO THE OTHER REAR DOOR AND DROVE TO A DEALERSHIP. ON SEPTEMBER 3, 2019 AT SIMI VALLEY FORD IN SIMI VALLEY, CA THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT DIAGNOSED A DOOR LATCH FAILURE FOR THE REAR DRIVER SIDE DOOR AND RECOMMENDED A REPLACEMENT AT A CHARGE OF APPROXIMATELY $325. WE WERE INFORMED THE RECALL REPAIR HAD BEEN CLOSED OUT ON DECEMBER 31, 2018 BY RICHMOND VALLEY FORD. WE WERE TOLD THE REPLACEMENT PART IS NOT UNDER WARRANTY BECAUSE WE HAD EXCEEDED THE 12,000 MILE (OR 12 MONTH) THRESHOLD FOR REPAIRS UNDER WARRANTY. WE DO NOT BELIEVE THE DOOR LATCH IS A MILEAGE DEPENDENT REPAIR AND WE BELIEVE WE SHOULD BE COVERED UNDER THE ORIGINAL RECALL. WE ARE REPORTING THAT IT APPEARS THE RECALL REPAIR HAS ITSELF FAILED. THE FAILURE OF THIS PART CAN LEAD TO DEVASTATING CIRCUMSTANCES IN A SCENARIO OF A PASSENGER POSSIBLY FALLING OUT OF THE VEHICLE. PLEASE INVESTIGATE TO DETERMINE IF THE REPAIR OF THE RECALL HAS ALSO FAILED.
THE DRIVER SIDE REAR DOOR LATCH BROKE, WHICH WOULD NOT ALLOW THE DOOR TO CLOSE, POSING A SAFETY HAZARD TO THE OCCUPANTS INSIDE THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS STATIONARY AND AS I LOADED A BAG IN THE BACKSEAT AND CLOSED THE DOOR TO LEAVE ONE DAY, IT DID NOT CLOSE.
JUST OVER A YEAR AGO, SOME MONTHS AFTER THE VEHICLE WAS JUST PURCHASE FROM THE WINNIE FORD PREOWNED LOT, THE DOOR SUDDENLY OPENED WHILE WE WERE DRIVING. TURNS OUT THERE IS AN EXISTING RECALL FOR THIS VEHICLE PERTAINING TO PROBLEMATIC DOOR LATCHES. WE CONTACTED THE DEALER WE PURCHASED THE VEHICLE FROM ABOUT GETTING A FREE REPAIR DUE TO THE RECALL, BUT THE DEALER DIRECTED US TO CALL FORD INSTEAD. FORD TELLS US THAT THE RECALL ISSUE WAS ALREADY SUPPOSEDLY MADE AT SOME DEALERSHIP IN FLORIDA AND THAT WE WOULD NEED TO PAY A FULL PRICE TO REPAIR THEIR DEFECT, A PRICE THAT WE SIMPLY CANNOT AFFORD THE OWNER OF THE VEHICLE IS A RETIRED 70 YEAR OLD GETTING BY WITH SOCIAL SECURITY PAYMENTS). WE EVENTUALLY FIGURED OUT A WAY TO FORCE THE DOOR TO CLOSE, BUT TODAY (JULY 29, 2019) THE DOOR REOPENED ITSELF AGAIN, AND AFTER AN HOUR OF ATTEMPTS, THE DOOR REFUSES TO SHUT. THIS VEHICLE IS USED BY SEVERAL FAMILY MEMBERS TO GET TO SCHOOL, WORK, STORES, ETC. AS SUCH, THIS IS A MAJOR SAFETY AND SECURITY RISK FOR US AND OUR VEHICLE- THE NY TIMES REPORTED THAT THIS INCIDENT ONCE LED TO A CRASH WITH THREE INCIDENTS. I HAVE BEEN COMPELLED TO SUBMIT THIS COMPLAINT TO THE NHSTA BECAUSE FORD AND THE DEALERSHIP(S) ARE REFUSING TO TAKE ANY ACCOUNTABILITY REGARDING FIXING THEIR DEFECT (SINCE THEIR SUPPOSED INITIAL 'REPAIR' CLEARLY DID NOT WORK), AND I REQUEST THAT SOMEONE AT THE NHSTA INVESTIGATE THIS URGENT SAFETY MATTER. I WILL CONTINUE TO CONTACT THE DEALERSHIP AND FORD TO ENSURE THAT THEY PROPERLY REPAIR THEIR RECALLED DEFECT.
PAINT ON THE LIFT GATE NEAR THE LICENSE PLATE BUBBLED UP AND FLAKED OFF EXPOSING BARE ALUMINUM. MY FORD DEALER SAYS IT'S NOT COVERED UNDER WARRANTY. THIS IS A WIDESPREAD PROBLEM KNOWN BY FORD
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2014 FORD ESCAPE. ON THREE OCCASIONS, WHILE LOADING CARGO INTO THE VEHICLE, THE LIFTGATE FELL AND STRUCK THE CONTACT ON THE BACK AND SHOULDERS. MEDICAL ATTENTION WAS NOT RECEIVED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE LIFTGATE INDEPENDENTLY OPENED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO MOCK FORD SALES (LOCATED AT 913 SE 6TH ST, GRANTS PASS, OR 97526, (541) 476-6656) WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE RKE TRANSMITTER MODULES SHOWED NO CODES. THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE HANDS-FREE POWER LIFTGATE OPTION SHOWED NO FAULT CODES. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 29,180.
THE REAR PASSENGER DOORS FAIL TO OPEN FROM OUTSIDE THE VEHICLE BECAUSE THE INTERIOR DOOR PANELS WILL NOT STAY ATTACHED TO THE INSIDE OF THE DOOR CAUSING THEM TO HANG ON THE FRAME OF THE DOOR. THE CLIPS ON THE DOOR PANELS HAVE BEEN REPAIRED TWICE ONCE AND THE SAME ISSUE CONTINUES TO OCCUR LEAVING US UNABLE TO ACCESS THE SECOND ROW OF SEATS IN THE VEHICLE.
I DROVE AN HOUR TO ANOTHER CITY. UPON ARRIVAL TO THE CITY I STOPPED THE CAR AND GOT OUT. I NOTICED THE BACK, DRIVER SIDE DOOR WAS OPEN SLIGHTLY. I WENT TO CLOSE IT AND REALIZED THAT THE DOOR WOULD NOT STAY CLOSED. THE LATCH WOULD NOT CATCH THE METAL PIECE ON THE FRAME OF THE CAR TO KEEP THE DOOR CLOSED. I COULD NOT DRIVE THE VEHICLE WITHOUT TYING THE DOOR WITH A ROPE TO THE INSIDE OF THE CAR TO KEEP IT FROM FLYING OPEN WHILE DRIVING. IT STILL WILL NOT REMAIN CLOSED AS IS A MAJOR SAFETY HAZARD FOR MY PASSENGERS AND OTHER DRIVERS ON THE ROAD. THERE WAS A RECALL BY FORD FOR THIS EXACT PROBLEM FOR THE MAKE, MODEL, AND YEAR OF MY CAR, BUT MY SPECIFIC VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THIS RECALL AND MY CAR IS EXPERIENCING THE SAME PROBLEM. I HAVE ATTACHED THE ARTICLE STATING THAT THIS WAS A RECALLED ISSUE. IF YOU REQUIRE ANY PICTURES OR FURTHER DOCUMENTATION PLEASE LET ME KNOW.
THE REAR HATCH HAS A SIGNIFICANT LEAK WHEN IT RAINS OR I GO THROUGH A CAR WASH. I HAVE REPORTED THIS MANY TIMES AND THE RESOLVE WAS FOR ME TO PAY AN EXTREME AMOUNT TO HAVE THE RUBBER REPLACED. SEVERAL OF MY FRIENDS THAT HAVE THE SAME CAR HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM. THIS WAS NOTICED SHORTLY AFTER I BOUGHT THE CAR. I BELIEVE IT IS A MANUFACTURER PROBLEM AND SHOULD BE RECALLED AND CORRECTED. IT IS LEAKING RIGHT AT THE WIRING ON THE PASSENGER SIDE AND COULD CAUSE MORE SERIOUS ISSUES DOWN THE ROAD. I HAVE A TEMPORARY FIX AT THIS TIME BUT IT IS NOT PERMANENT BY ANY MEANS.
I HAD THE REAR DOOR LATCH RECALL TAKEN CARE OF, AND NOW BOTH DOORS ARE LEAKING WHENEVER IT RAINS. IT IS RUNNING DOWN THE WINDOW INSIDE THE DOOR PANELING ONTO THE FLOOR. I USUALLY KEEP MY CAR INSIDE A GARAGE, AND HAVE HAD TO LET IT BE IN MY DRIVEWAY WHEN IT RAINED RECENTLY.
CAR WAS PURCHASED USED IN FEB 2017 WITH 19,800 MILES ON IT. IT'S NOW 18 MONTHS AFTER WE'VE OWNED IT AND IT ONLY HAS 49,000 MILES ON IT. THE 3 OF THE 4 DOORS HAVE RUST ALONG THE BOTTOM OF EACH OF THEM, WHICH HAS COME THROUGH THE PAINT. ACCORDING TO FORD AND THE DEALER, THEY WILL ONLY FIX IT AT THEIR COST IF THE RUST HAS EATEN ALL THE WAY THROUGH THE METAL. I KNOW THE WARRANTY STATES THAT IT ONLY COVERS PERFORATED BODY PANELS, BUT AT WHAT POINT DO I KNOW IT IS PERFORATED BEFORE IT'S TOO LATE. SUPER FRUSTRATING.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2014 FORD ESCAPE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE REAR PASSENGER DOOR FAILED TO OPEN FROM OUTSIDE THE VEHICLE AND COULD ONLY BE OPENED FROM INSIDE THE CABIN. IN ADDITION, THE INTERIOR DOOR PANEL WAS DETACHED FROM THE DOOR. THE DEALER (SENTRY FORD, 4100 MYSTIC VALLEY PKWY, MEDFORD, MA 02155, (781) 395-6400) WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE AND ADVISED THE CONTACT TO SCHEDULE A DIAGNOSTIC APPOINTMENT. THE MANUFACTURER STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS EXCLUDED FROM NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 16V643000 (LATCHES/LOCKS/LINKAGES) AND RECOMMENDED CALLING THE DEALER FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING AND REPAIR. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 55,549.
OUT OF NOWHERE A WEEK AGO MY BACK DRIVERS SIDE DOOR BECAME VERY DIFFICULT TO OPEN. I HAD THE CAR IN FOR SERVICE ON 3/31 DUE TO THE WIRING HARNESS COMING LOOSE AND HAD THEM CHECK THE DOOR. I WAS TOLD THE CLIPS THAT HOLD ON THE DOOR PANEL WERE BROKEN/MISSING AND THE DOOR WAS SLIPPING OFF. I AM VERY CONCERNED ABOUT THIS BEING A NEWER VEHICLE WITH NO BODY DAMAGE AND I SUBMITTED A NHTSA ISSUE 11083236 EARLIER TODAY FOR THE WIRING HARNESS. I CALLED FORD CUSTOMER RELATIONSHIP RECALL DEPT AND SPOKE TO MEL AND WAS TOLD THAT THERE IS NO TIMEFRAME FOR THEM TO REVIEW CONCERNS, NO WAY FOR ME TO ESCALATE THE ISSUE, NO WAY FOR ME TO HAVE IT REVIEWED BY THE DEPARTMENT THAT DECIDES WHEN THERE SHOULD BE A RECALL (AND THAT THE NAME OF THAT DEPT WAS PROPRIETARY) MY CASE#14515980 WAS GIVEN TO ME BUT THEY SAID THAT I CANNOT CHECK ON OR VALIDATE THAT THIS IS EVEN REVIREWED WITH THEM. I AM VERY CONCERNED THAT 1. MY WIRING HARNESS CAME LOOSE AND MY CAR WENT DEAD ON THE ROAD (LUCKILY I WASN'T ON A HIGHWAY) AND 2. MY DOOR COULD JUST FALL OFF WITHOUT A CAUSE. I PAID FOR THE REPAIRS BUT HAVE FOUND RECALLS ON OTHER FORD ESCAPES FOR BOTH OF THESE ISSUES, IT JUST DOESN'T INCLUDE MY VIN NUMBER AND I WOULD LIKE IT INVESTIGATED TO SEE IF MY VIN SHOULD BE INCLUDED.
WHEN IT RAINS HARD I HAVE A LEAK BEHIND THE PASSENGER SEAT THAT COMES FROM THE LIGHT FIXTURE - I HAVE SEEN SO MANY COMPLAINTS ABOUT THIS FROM 2012 ESCAPES THRU 2017 ESCAPES - THEIR SEEMS TO BE NO FIX - MY BIGGEST CONCERN IS THE HEADLINER (WHICH EVERYONE SAYS NOT TO TOUCH) AND THE SMELL FORD SUGGESTED I CONTACT YOU - I WOULD ASSUME THIS HAPPENS WHEN THE CAR IS STATIONARY AND IT DOES NOT HAPPEN WHEN CAR IS RUN THROUGH CAR WASH. *DT THE CONSUMER STATED THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED AT THE OWNER'S EXPENSE AND NOW HAS STARTED TO LEAK AGAIN. *TR
SAFETY RECALL 16S30/NHTSA RECALL 16V-643 HAS NOT BEEN DONE BY THE MANUFACTURE AS OF NOV 2017. DEALERS SAY THE CAN NOT GET THE PARTS TO DO THE RECALL.
ENGINE COOLANT SENSOR RE-PROGRAM RECALL. THIS WAS CORRECTED OCTOBER 10, 2017 AT FORD DEALERSHIP IN BENSENVILLE, ILLINOIS. ALSO FOUR DOOR LATCHES WERE RECALL AND REPLACED AT SAME TIME.
DELAY IN GETTING RECALL TAKEN CARE OF. NOTIFIED A YEAR AGO OF RECALL, FINALLY RECEIVED LETTER IN MAY THAT PARTS WERE AVAILABLE, SCHEDULED APPOINTMENT FOR 7/19/2017. DEALER CANCELED THE APPOINTMENT 2 DAYS BEFORE SAYING PARTS WERE NOT AVAILABLE. IT IS NOW 1 MONTH LATER AND THE DEALER HASN'T EVEN ORDERED THE PARTS.

MY CAR HAD A RECALL IN SEPT 2016 AND I HAVEN'T BEEN ABLE TO GET IT FIXED YET. MY DEALERSHIP STILL HAS NO PARTS. SO WHAT AM I SUPPOSED TO DO.
WE PURCHASED A 2014 FORD ESCAPE FROM SCAFFIDI MOTORS IN STEVENS POINT. WE HAVE HAD THE VEHICLE IN FOR REPAIR NUMEROUS TIMES BECAUSE FREQUENTLY WHEN YOU SHUT THE BACK DOORS THE INSIDE DOOR PANEL COMES LOOSE WHEREIN YOU HAVE DIFFICULTY OPENING AND THE INSIDE DOOR PANEL GETS DAMAGED OR YOU CANNOT OPEN THE DOORS. AS OF TODAY, BOTH DOORS WILL NOTE OPEN. IN ORDER TO GET IN OR OUT OF THE VEHICLE, WE HAVE TO CLIMB THRU THE FRONT PASSENGER DOOR. NOT SAFE AND AN INCONVENIENCE.

**THIS INCIDENT INVOLVES THE PANORAMIC ROOF GLASS/WINDOW SPONTANEOUSLY BURSTING AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS.** MY FAMILY AND I WERE DRIVING AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS WHEN SUDDENLY WE HEARD A VERY LOUD EXPLOSION. IT STARTLED MY HUSBAND, HE ALMOST LOST CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE BECAUSE THE VEHICLE SWERVED AS A RESULT OF HAVING THE ROOF TORN OPEN AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS. THIS INCIDENT COULD CAUSE A SEVERE, LIFE-THREATENING INJURY. WE PULLED OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. WE SAW THAT THE GLASS HAD BURST ALMOST COMPLETELY, LEAVING ONLY APPROXIMATELY 1.5" MARGINS OF SHATTERED GLASS AROUND THE EDGES. THE RUBBER BOND THAT SEALS THE GLASS ON ALL FOUR SIDES TO THE ROOF OF THE VEHICLE BENT TO THE POINT WHERE IT WAS FLAILING ABOUT ON THE HIGHWAY. THE SHATTERED PIECES OF GLASS CHIPPED/SCRATCHED/DAMAGED THE ROOF RACK, REAR PANORAMIC ROOF GLASS (THE PANORAMIC ROOF ON THE THIS ESCAPE IS COMPRISED OF TWO GLASSES, ONE IN THE FRONT THAT SLIDES OPENED AND CLOSED, AND THE REAR ONE THAT REMAINS STATIONARY) AND THE ROOF OF THE VEHICLE. ABSOLUTELY NOTHING IMPACTED THE VEHICLE TO CAUSE THIS DAMAGE. THIS INCIDENT IS NOT A RESULT OF MISUSE OR ABUSE. IT IS ABSOLUTELY A DEFECTIVE COMPONENT THAT FORD MOTOR COMPANY HAS NOT BEEN RESPONSIBLE FOR. WHILST ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD, WE CONTACTED OUR FORD DEALERSHIP. THEY TOLD US TO SEND PICTURES. WE DID AND THEY SENT THEM TO FORD CORPORATE FOR APPROVAL. THEY ANSWERED THAT SINCE THEY CAN'T SEE THE DEFECTIVE COMPONENT IN THE PICTURES, THEY CAN ASSUME SOMETHING IMPACTED THE GLASS AND THEREFORE THE INCIDENT DOES NOT QUALIFY FOR WARRANTY SERVICE. I WAS QUOTED THAT THE REPAIRS COULD COST APPROXIMATELY $1500USD. I HAVE DOCUMENTATION AND PICTURES OF THE INCIDENT THAT I WOULD BE MORE THAN HAPPY TO SHARE IF DEEMED HELPFUL TO MAKE MY CASE. THIS IS AN ISSUE THAT HAS AFFECTED MANY ESCAPE OWNERS. THERE WAS EVEN A RECALL IN 2014 REGARDING ISSUES WITH THE PANEL OF THE PANORAMIC ROOF.
THIS IS ONE OF MANY OCCURRENCES CONCERNING THIS PROBLEM. MY FIRST COMMUNICATION WITH FORD SERVICE WAS IN DECEMBER 2013 CONCERNING THE DOOR HANDLE STICKING CAUSING THE DOOR NOT TO LATCH. IN JANUARY 2014 THEY ASKED FOR A PHOTO OF THE PROBLEM TO SHARE WITH THEIR ENGINEERING TEAM. FORD HAS ISSUED CASE NUMBERS AND BASICALLY JUST TOLD ME TO BRING IT INTO THE DEALER. I'VE HAD MULTIPLE COMMUNICATION WITH FORD SERVICE THROUGHOUT THE YEAR INFORMING THEM THAT I STILL HAVE THE ISSUE. THE DEALER HAS TRIED TO FIX FOUR TIMES INCLUDING APPLYING THE RECALL. THE LAST DEALER ATTEMPT WAS IN NOVEMBER 2014 BUT THE PROBLEM STILL EXISTS. THE DOOR HAS OPENED WHEN I WAS BACKING OUT OF THE DRIVEWAY DUE TO THE HANDLE STICKING IN THE OPEN POSITION.THE DOOR HANDLE HAS STUCK IN THE OPEN POSITION WELL OVER A HUNDRED TIMES. I'VE SHARED PHOTOS OF THE ISSUE WITH THE DEALER, FORD SERVICE AND OVER THE INTERNET. *TR
THE REAR HATCH WHERE THE HANDLE BAR IS TO CLOSE THE BACK HATCH HAS RIPPED OFF. THIS IS NOW HANGING AND HAS CAUSED THE BACK PLASTIC PIECE THAT HOLDS MY WINDOW, WINDSHIELD WIPER, AND WHERE I AM SUPPOSED TO PULL THE HATCH DOOR DOWN TO BE USELESS. IT JUST FLAPS NOW. I CANT SHUT MY DOOR WITH THE HANDLE THAT WAS PROVIDED SINCE IT FELL OFF!! I HOPE THIS DOESN'T MAKE MY WINDSHIELD LEAK OR HURT THE WIPER. *TR
THE DOOR HANDLE STUCK IN THE OPEN POSITION PREVENTING THE DOOR FROM LATCHING CLOSED. THE DEALER HAS TRIED TO RESOLVE THREE TIMES NOW AND IT'S CONTINUES TO GET HAPPEN AND IN FACT GETTING WORSE. FORD`S CUSTOMER RELATIONSHIP CENTER HAS BEEN NOTIFIED BEGINNING ON JANUARY 19, 2014. LAST CONTACT WITH FORD`S CUSTOMER RELATIONSHIP CENTER WAS ON AUGUST 26, 2014 WITH NO RESOLUTION. *TR
DOORS WOULD NOT ALWAYS LATCH SHUT IN COLD WEATHER. NOTIFIED FORD SERVICE ON LINE AND PROVIDE A PHOTO OF THE PROBLEM. THEY SAID THEY WOULD GET BACK TO ME BUT NEVER DID. I FOLLOWED UP WITH FORD SERVICE A COUPLE MONTHS LATER AND THEY SAID TO TAKE THE VEHICLE IN TO MY DEALER. AFTER BRINGING THE VEHICLE IN MAY 2014 FOR THIS ISSUE, I FOUND OUT RECALL 14S03 EXISTED FROM THE DEALER. THEY INFORMED ME THEY APPLIED THE FIX BY ADJUSTING ALL DOOR HANDLES. THE PROBLEM WAS NOT RESOLVED AS IT'S NOW HAPPENING IN THE WARM WEATHER.COMPLAINED TO THE DEALER AND FORD SERVICE. TOOK THE VEHICLE BACK IN JUNE 2014 AND THE DEALER SAID THEY AGAIN ADJUSTED THE DOOR HANDLES. THE VEHICLE STILL HAS THE DOOR HANDLE PROBLEM WITH THE DOOR HANDLE STICKING AND THE DOOR NOT LATCHING. THE DOOR CAME OPEN WHILE BACKING OUT OF THE DRIVEWAY. *TR
FRIDAY EVENING I NOTICED SOMETHING HANGING DOWN FROM THE FRONT OF MY CAR. THE HARD PLASTIC AND WHAT I WILL DESCRIBE AS FIRE RESISTANT INSULATOR WAS 1/2 OFF. THE PINK PLASTIC BOLT IN THE FRAME WAS BROKEN AND FURTHER BACK WHERE IT APPEARS TO HAVE BEEN ATTACHED WITH A METAL BOLT; THE HOLE AROUND IT ON THE PLASTIC WAS TOO LARGE. NOW THERE ARE VARIOUS ELECTRONIC PARTS, BELTS, ETC EXPOSED. I WAS TOLD BY FORD THAT SOMETHING HIT THE CAR OR PERHAPS HAD BEEN BACKED INTO BY ANOTHER VEHICLE NOT LEAVING VISIBLE DAMAGE, BUT CAUSING PRESSURE UNDERNEATH, OR THE HARSH MINNESOTA WINTER CAUSED THIS AS THEY ARE SEEING MANY THINGS BREAK.THERE ARE NO SIGNS OF ANY DAMAGE AND THEY REFUSED TO PUT IT UP ON THE JACK TO INSPECT. I DO NOT FEEL THAT FORD IS WILLING TO EVEN INVESTIGATE THEIR DEFECTIVE PARTS, IN FACT. I WAS TOLD THIS WAS NOT A WARRANTY PROBLEM BUT RATHER AN INSURANCE ISSUE. SINCE I DO NOT FEEL SAFE DRIVING WITH ALL OF THIS EXPOSED I HAVE TIED IT UP TO MY GRILL WITH TWINE. *TR
