Vehicle: 2017 Ford Edge Issue: Sudden loss of power / Transmission failure Safety Concern: Loss of acceleration at highway speeds Complaint Description: I am submitting this complaint due to a serious safety issue with my 2017 Ford Edge. While driving at various speeds, the vehicle began hesitating when I pressed the accelerator.

The component that failed was the long block and is currently available for inspection. The date when the issue 1st appeared was Nov 20 2023. The issue has since been isolated as a coolant leak in my cylinders and Ford is very aware of the issue and has a TSB 22-2229 discussing some of the symptoms.

After putting gas in the vehicle, the vehicle was acting sluggish. It did not want to start and after it did it wasn't going full speed. I proceeded to leave the gas station and no sooner did the vehicle started to sputter and 'died' while making a U-turn.

The contact stated that while pulling into a parking space with the foot on the brake pedal and when shifting to park the vehicle suddenly experienced unintended acceleration and drove forward into a fence and down an embankment. During the crash, the driver sustained a back fracture and leg injuries and was transported to the hospital.

That contact stated that pulling into a parking lot space to park, the accelerator pedal became stuck without warning as the vehicle shot forward causing the contact to crash into the vehicle in front. The contact tried to depress the brake pedal as the accelerator pedal failed to release causing the contact to lose control of the vehicle.
