My backup lights kept burning out and are no longer functional. My directional and taillights have both burned out excessively. Last time I changed my left tail light I noticed the socket the bulb goes into looked a bit charred. My right directional recently burned out and this time the bulb is melted into the socket. I have an appt to have a mechanic change ALL REAR SOCKETS. Upon discovering the melted socket I checked on line and apparently this is a BIG PROBLEM for FORD EDGE. This should be recalled as it is a serious problem.
WHILE DRIVING WITH MY 6 MONTH OLD SON IN THE CAR, I COULDN'T STOP USING MY BRAKES! I ALMOST CRASHED!! I LOOKED UP THE SYMPTOMS ONLINE AND EVERYONE IS COMPLAINING ABOUT THIS ISSUE. IT SEEMS THE BRAKE BOOSTER FAILS AND THE BRAKES DO NOT WORK!!! THE OTHER ISSUE I HAVE SEEN, HUNDREDS OF PEOPLE COMPLAINING ABOUT REAR TAIL LIGHTS BLOWING OUT AND WHEN CHANGING OUT THE BULBS, THE BULB SOCKETS ARE BURNT AND MELTED! MINE ARE THE SAME, BURNT UP AND MELTED. IT IS A FIRE HAZARD WAITING TO HAPPEN!!
THE DRIVER SIDE BRAKE/TURN SIGNAL STOPPED WORKING ON 10/10/19 AND WHEN I REMOVED THE TAILLIGHT THE SOCKET WAS MELTED TOGETHER WITH THE LIGHT ASSEMBLY WISH I HAD A HARD TIME TAKING IT APART, I CALLED FORD SERVICE DEPARTMENT AND THEY SAID THERE WAS NOTHING THEY CAN DO ABOUT UNLESS I PAY TO FIX IT, THE CAR PARTS SHOULDN'T MELT THAT IS WHY THE VEHICLE IS EQUIPPED WITH FUSES TO BURN OUT BEFORE THE VEHICLE CATCHES ON FIRE. TAKATA RECALL I AM WRITING DUE TO A PROBLEM WITH BURNT/MELTED TAILLIGHT BULB/SOCKET. I NOTICED THAT MY TAILLIGHT IS BURNING OUT MUCH SOONER THAN IT SHOULD AND IT IS CAUSED BY THE SOCKET WHICH IS BURNT AND MELTED. HOW CAN I RESOLVE THIS PROBLEM.
THE DOOR AJAR LIGHT STAYS ON, NOT ALL OF THE TIME, AND CAUSING THE BATTERY TO DIE. I TRANSPORT KIDS AND TRAVEL SO IT IS VERY STRESSFUL NOT KNOWING IF MY CAR WILL BE DEAD OR NOY WHEN I GET BACK TO IT.
WHEN REPLACING MY TAIL LIGHT I FOUND THAT THE SOCKET FOR MAIN BRAKE LIGHT WAS BURNT UP. THE LIGHT BULB WAS MELTED TO THE SOCKET. I REPLACED THE LIGHT AND THE SOCKET BUT THE DRIVER SIDE IS STILL NOT WORKING. I CHECKED THE PASSENGER SIDE AND IT WAS ALSO BURNT BUT NOT AS BADLY. I REPLACE THE LIGHT IN SOCKET ON THAT SIDE AND NOW IT WORKS.
TAIL LIGHT ASSEMBLY MELTED COMPLETED AND BURNT LEAVING PLASTIC MELTED INSIDE THE LIGHT ASSEMBLY. NO WARNING, NO FUSES GONE BAD JUST THE LIGHT COMPLETED MELTED THE INSIDE AREA WHERE THE BULB GOES AND THE LIGHT ASSEMBLY BURNT COMPLETELY. *TR
TAIL LIGHT SOCKETS MELTING CAUSING THE BULBS TO BLOW AND NOT WORK. HAVE HAD TO CHANGE BOTH SIDES THREE TIMES NOW. ALSO THE TAKATA AIRBAG HAS STILL NOT BEEN REPLACED. THE DEALERSHIP STATED THEY STILL DO NOT HAVE THE PARTS TO FIX IT. I AM VERY CONCERNED ABOUT BOTH THESE THINGS.
LEFT TURN SIGNAL LIGHT SOCKET KEEPS BURNING OUT BULBS. LAST ONE MELTED SOME OF THE BULB. SOCKET IS BURNED AND BLACKEN. THIS HAS HAPPENED 3 TONES IN 6 MONTHS.
REAR TURN LIGHT SOCKETS BURN UP WITH NO WARNING LIGHT TO DISPLAY THAT YOUR REAR LIGHTS NO LONGER WORK. YOU DO NOT KNOW UNTIL THE POLICE PULLS YOU OVER TO TELL YOU WHICH CAN RESULT IN FINES. I HAD TO PAY TO REPLACE BOTH REAR LIGHT SOCKETS (APPROX. $150)
RECENTLY HAD TO REPLACE BOTH OF MY TAIL LIGHT SOCKETS, DUE TO BURNING OUT AND MELTING. WONDERING IF THIS IS A PROBLEM THAT FORD IS AWARE OF? HAPPENING WITHOUT ANY WARNINGS OF COURSE.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 FORD EDGE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE TAIL LIGHTS HAD TO CONTINUOUSLY BE REPLACED DUE TO THEM MELTING AND BURNING. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED BUT THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 85,000.

RIGHT REAR TURN SIGNAL WAS NOT WORKING. WHEN I WENT TO REPLACE THE BULB, I NOTICED THE BASE OF THE BULB HAD MELTED, THE SOCKET WAS SLIGHTLY DEFORMED AND DISCOLORED WITH SOOT. I CHECKED ONLINE AND FOUND SEVERAL HUNDRED POSTINGS OF THE SAME PROBLEM WITH FORD EDGE CARS FROM MANY DIFFERENT MODEL YEARS. CURIOUS HOW MANY IT TAKES FOR A RECALL. *TR
THE REAR TAIL LIGHT SOCKETS FOR THE TAIL/BRAKE LIGHT LAMPS ARE BADLY BURNED ON BOTH SIDES. WE NOTICED THE PROBLEM WHEN WE CHANGED THE TAIL LIGHT HOUSING DUE TO WATER VAPOR BUILD UP. ONLY THE RIGHT SIDE HAD THE VISIBLE WATER VAPOR. BOTH SIDES HAD THE BURNED LAMP SOCKETS. THE CAR WAS PURCHASED USED. *TR
DRIVER'S SIDE REAR TURN SIGNAL LIGHT QUIT. THE SOCKET WAS BURNED. REPLACED IT. SAME PROBLEM SEVERAL MONTHS LATER ON THE PASSENGER SIDE. REAR TURN SIGNAL, SOCKET WAS BURNED. NOW (APRIL 13, 2014) THE DRIVER'S SIDE REAR TURN SIGNAL HAS BURNED UP AGAIN. THE SOCKET IS BLACK, LAMP IS EXTREMELY OVERHEATED AND DESTROYED. *JS
I DISCOVERED BOTH OF MY REAR BRAKE LIGHT BULBS MELTED IN THEIR SOCKETS. THE SOCKETS THEMSELVES ARE BURNT BLACK AND THE DRIVERS SIDE TAIL LIGHT CASE HAS BEEN HOT ENOUGH TO MELT. BOTH BRAKE LIGHTS KEEP MELTING AND GOING OUT WITH NO KNOWN REASON PRESENTED BY FORD. *TR
RIGHT TAIL LIGHT WENT OUT. UPON ATTEMPTING TO REPLACE, FOUND BASE OF BULB MELTED BADLY. SOCKET WAS NOT MELTED BUT WAS DISCOLORED (BLACKENED). CHECKED LEFT SIDE, SAME ISSUES. THESE ARE THE BULBS THAT WERE IN THE VEHICLE WHEN WE PURCHASED IT IN 2009 (ASSUMING THEY ARE FROM THE FACTORY). UPON SEARCHING VARIOUS FORUMS, FOUND THIS TO BE A NATIONWIDE PROBLEM. MAJOR CONCERN FOR FIRE. *TR
BOTH OF MY TAIL LIGHTS (BRAKES AND TURN SIGNALS) ON BOTH RIGHT AND LEFT REAR WENT OUT. UPON INSPECTION, I DISCOVERED THAT THE LIGHTS HAD MELTED AT THE BASE AND THERE WAS BLACK SOOT COVERING EACH BULB AND RESIDUE IN THE LIGHT ASSEMBLY FROM WHAT APPEARED TO BE A SMALL FIRE. I REPLACED THE BULBS AND HAVE HAD NO FURTHER ISSUES. FORD DECLINED TO RESPOND TO MY CONCERN. *TR

REAR TAIL LIGHT BULBS (BRAKE/SIGNAL) BURNT AND MELTED IN SOCKET HOUSING ON BOTH SIDES. POSSIBLE ELETRICAL SHORT FIRE HAZARD. *TR
RIGHT BRAKE BULB WENT OUT SO TOOK THE BULB OUT TO REPLACE IT AND NOTICE THE BLACK/PLASTIC PART OF THE BULB WAS MELTED. SO I TOOK THE OTHER SIDE OFF AND FOUND SAME ISSUE. *TR
I HAVE A 2008 EDGE WITH 18,000 MILES ON IT. ONE WEEK AGO MY LEFT TURN SIGNAL STOPPED WORKING. ON INVESTIGATION I DISCOVERED THE SOCKET HOLDING THE BULB HAD MELTED. WITH 13 DAYS LEFT ON THE WARRANTY I TOOK IT TO FORD, THEY REPLACED IT AND THE BULB. WHEN I GOT HOME I CHECK THE RIGHT TURN SIGNAL, SAME THING, SOCKET WAS BURNED WORSE. THEY ARE REPLACING THIS TODAY AS THEY DID NOT HAVE ANOTHER SOCKET IN STOCK. I AM GOING TO TAKE A PICTURE OF THIS. *TR
AT 40,000 MILES REAR BLINKER BULB WENT OUT AND UPON REPLACEMENT THE BULB HAD MELT AND THE SOCKET SHOWED HEAT SCORCH. FORD SAID THIS WAS COMMON ON EDGES. AT 85,000 THE SAME THING OCCURRED HOWEVER THIS TIME THE BULBS HAD MAJOR MELT AT THE BASE OF THE BULB. FORD SAYS THEY NOW HAVE A TECH BULLETIN AND SAYS TO USE A NEW PART NUMBER BULB. VERY APPARENT THAT THE BULB WAS EXPERIENCING A HIGH TEMPERATURE THAT CAUSED THE MELT. *JS

THE VEHICLE WAS INSPECTED BY A DEALER WHO INFORMED HIM THAT HE NEEDED TO REPLACE THE BULB AND THAT THE FAILURE OCCURRED OFTEN IN FORD VEHICLES. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 27,500.
