I believe it was March,2022 or April,2022 my check engine light came On 20’ before pulling into my driveway. I called “Protect My Car” insurance protection that I have, had my Edge towed to a repair shop and they said my antifreeze was leaking into my oil, that my water pump went out and said it was my fault as I neglected taking care of my vehicle and they have denied paying to fix it, even thought it is 100% covered. Not sure what to do as it only has 151,000 miles on it and the body is in good shape and clean inside. I had no idea the water pump went out. I’m not a mechanic and thought that’s why I was paying them for problems like this. I need help to get it fixed and never neglected it or drove it after check engine light came on.

OUR WATER PUMP ON OUR 2008 FORD EDGE LIMITED, SUFFERED A BREAKDOWN WHICH ALLOWED WATER TO ENTER THE ENGINE INTERNALLY. THE WATER MIXED WITH THE OIL INSIDE THE ENGINE CAUSING A COMPLETE ENGINE FAILURE. WE WERE INFORMED IT WOULD COST $7,800.00 TO INSTALL A NEW FORD ENGINE. AT THE TIME OF ENGINE FAILURE THE ODOMETER SHOWED 105,000 MILES. THE CAR WAS BEING DRIVEN IN TOWN AT A SPEED OF 35 MILES PER HOUR IN THE MONTH OF AUGUST, 2019. I NOTICED THE AIR CONDITIONING WAS BLOWING HOT AIR SO I GLANCED AT THE DASHBOARD TO SEE THE ENGINE TEMPERATURE GAUGE REGISTERING H (HOT). AT NO TIME DID THE "CHECK ENGINE" LIGHT COME ON TO ALERT ME OF AN ENGINE PROBLEM. I HAD THE EDGE TOWED TO A GARAGE WHERE WE WERE SHOWN A BILL FOR $7,800 TO REPLACE THE ENTIRE ENGINE DUE TO THE WATER PUMP BURSTING AND LEAKING WATER INTO THE ENGINE WHICH MIXED WITH OIL IN THE ENGINE. WE BELIEVE THIS ENGINE FAILURE WAS THE DIRECT RESULT OF THE LOCATION OF THE WATER PUMP WHICH WAS "INTERNALLY" IN THE ENGINE.

WHILE DRIVING THE FORD EDGE HAS A COMPLETE LOSS OF POWER. THE WRENCH LIGHT AND BATTERY LIGHT CAME ON. THE POWER STEERING WOULD NOT WORK AND I HAD TO COAST TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. I TURNED OFF THE ENGINE AND WAS ABLE TO RESTART IT. THE MECHANIC WAS NOT ABLE TO REPLICATE IT. IT HAS HAPPENED MULTIPLE TIMES ALMOST CAUSING A WRECK EACH TIME WHILE DRIVING IN THE CITY. DRIVING TO WORK I NOTICED THE TEMPERATURE GAUGE GOT ALL THE WAY UP AND I PULLED OVER, SINCE I WAS DRIVING ON THE I-41 NORTHBOUND HIGHWAY, I DECIDED TO GET OFF THE HIGHWAY SINCE I WAS PRETTY CLOSE TO THE EXIT. I CALLED MY HUSBAND FOR ASSISTANCE AND RIGHT AFTER HE DROPPED ME OFF AT WORK, HE CHECKED THE SUV AND NOTICED THE COOLANT RESERVOIR WAS VERY LOW. WE TOOK IT TO THE MECHANIC AND AFTER THE INSPECTION HIS DIAGNOSTIC WAS A 'WATER PUMP FAILURE ' SINCE THE WATER PUMP IS LOCATED 'INSIDE ' THE ENGINE ITSELF, IT WILL BE A 'VERY EXPENSIVE FIX' SO THE MECHANIC RECOMMENDED TO REPORT IT SINCE IT MAY BE FOMOCO'S FAULTY. I COMPLETELY AGREED WITH HEM, BECAUSE THE FACT THEY INSTALLED THE WATER PUMP INSIDE THE ENGINE, DOESN'T MAKE ANY SENSE, BECAUSE JUST A INEXPENSIVE PUMP AFFECTED THE WHOLE ENGINE AND TO REPAIR IT, WILL COST MORE THAN THE SUV ITSELF. THIS HAPPENED ON JANUARY 28TH 2019, AROUND 1:30. MY HUSBAND AND I ARE HOPING THERE IS A 'RECALL ' REGARDING THIS MATTER.

THE WATER PUMP IS LOCATED INSIDE THE ENGINE AND WHEN A SIMPLE $160 PART FAILED, IT CIRCULATED ANTI-FREEZE THROUGH THE ENGINE NECESSITATING A COMPLETE ENGINE REPLACEMENT. THIS HAPPENED WITHIN THE SPAN OF 5 MINUTES WITH THE FIRST SYMPTOM THE HEAT WENT OFF INSIDE THE CABIN. NO ENGINE LIGHTS CAME ON, THE HEAT CAME BACK ON AND WENT OFF AGAIN, STILL NO INDICATION OF ENGINE OR TROUBLE LIGHTS GOING ON. THEN MAJOR ENGINE FAILURE, INSTANTLY THE OIL LIGHT WENT ON AND WITHIN SECONDS THE MOTOR OVERHEATED. THERE WAS A TERRIBLE NOISE AS I FOUND MY WAY TO A SAFE SPOT TO STOP THE CAR. THIS IS THE MOST BASIC KIND OF IRRESPONSIBILITY IN CREATING AN EXPENSIVE PRODUCT LIKE A CAR. TOOK BACK TO MY FORD DEALER, REPLACED MAF SENSOR AND THROTTLE BODY ASSEMBLY FOR $645. 10 MONTHS LATER CITY DRIVING IN HEAVY TRAFFIC, CAR IS STARTING TO SLIP INTO SLUGGISH MODE AND HAVING TROUBLE SHIFTING TO NEXT GEAR. THE VEHICLE WAS AGAIN TAKEN BACK TO THE DEALER AND THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE AXLE AND WHEEL BEARINGS WERE DAMAGED. THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THIS MAY BE THE CAUSE OF THE POOR ACCELERATION FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS AGAIN REPAIRED AND THE FAILURE CONTINUED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 30,000.

ONGOING TRANSMISSION ISSUES SINCE PURCHASED NEW. BEEN TO REPAIR FOR MORE THAN 17 DAYS AND ISSUES STILL REMAIN UNRESOLVED. TOOK CAR IN FOR REGULAR SCHEDULED OIL CHANGES AND REPAIRS.AT APPROXIMATELY 30,000 MILES THE CAMPHASERS ( FORD ADMITTED WRONG CAMPHASERS HAD BEEN INSTALLED) WERE REPLACED. COOLANT PROBLEM DISCOVERED AS WELL WHEN VEHICLE ENGINE WAS REMOVED. ODD ODOR COMING FROM HEATER, WHEN VEHICLE RETURNED AFTER CAMPHASER AND COOLANT ISSUE DID NOT RESOLVE SITUATION, AND VEHICLE RETURNED TO GALPIN FORD SERVICE, WAS TOLD THAT AXLE AND BEARING WERE BROKEN AND THAT THE STEERING WHEEL WAS NOT IN PROPER POSITION. I AM DEEPLY CONCERNED FOR OTHER FORD EDGE OWNERS AS WELL AS MEMBERS OF THE PUBLIC WHO MAY BE AFFECTED BY VEHICLE THAT DOES NOT PROPERLY ENGAGE AND APPEARS TO STALL BEFORE MOVING FORWARD.... THIS IS AN ENORMOUSLY SERIOUS ISSUE, THAT SHOULD NOT BE IGNORED. READING THE PRIOR COMPLAINTS, TELLS ME THIS IS NOT A NEW PROBLEM, AND THAT CONSUMERS AND FORD ARE AWARE OF THE TRANSMISSIONS ISSUES. 2008 EDGE PURCHASED NEW IN 2009. IMMEDIATELY NOTED STRANGE SURGING WHEN ACCELERATING AND BRAKING. CONCERNED ABOUT TRANSMISSION. NOTIFIED FORD COOPERATE WHEN DEALER SAID VEHICLE WAS PERFORMING 'NORMALLY" SO CONCERNED CEASED DRIVING ON FREEWAY. IN SEPT OF 2011, TOOK VEHICLE TO BE SERVICED. THEY ASKED THAT I WAIT EVEN THOUGH I SHARED ONGOING CONCERNS. VEHICLE WAS GIVEN TO ME AND TOLD THAT ALL WAS WELL. AT 32000, IN DEC. OF 2011 ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON...TOOK TO DEALER WHO ADVISED ME THEY WOULD NEED TO KEEP IT FOR SOME TIME AND ENGINE NEEDED TO BE REMOVED. 6 DAYS LATER, I WAS NOTIFIED THAT THERE WAS A PROBLEM WITH THE CAM PHASER AND ALSO SOMETHING WITH COOLING SYSTEM. OTHER ISSUES THAT SHOULD BE NOTED IS THAT THE BATTERY HAS BEEN REPLACED MULTIPLE TIMES. THE CAR FOR NO REASON HAS ALARM GO OFF. VERY MUCH CONCERNED THAT INFORMATION IS BEING WITHHELD AND THAT THIS MAY BE A COMMON ISSUE WITH EDGE AND PERHAPS THERE IS A NEED FOR A RECALL. THE VEHICLE WOULD AT DIFFERENT TIMES, HAVE TROUBLE SHIFTING FROM PARK TO REVERSE, IN DRIVE, ETC. IT SOUNDED LIKE THE TRANSMISSION WAS BROKEN. THIS PROBLEM WOULD ARISE, AND THEN GO AWAY. THE FIRST TIME THE DEALERSHIP RESET THE COMPUTER, AND IT RAN FINE FOR WEEKS, THEN THE PROBLEM CAME ABOUT AGAIN, AND WENT AWAY, THE LAST TIME AROUND SEPT 18TH, IT WAS WORSE, SO I HAD IT TOWED AND REPAIRED. THE DEALERSHIP REPLACED THE OUTPUT SHAFT SENSOR AND TURBIN SHAFT SENSOR AT A COST OF $700. I WAS IMPELLED TO REPORT A CONCERN, AFTER SEEING OTHER CONCERNS ON LINE FOR THE SAME ISSUES, AND A CUSTOMER OF MINE WHO HAS AN EDGE IS EXPERIENCING THE SAME ISSUES. FORD MOTOR COMPANY, AND THE DEALERSHIPS DO NOT SEEM TO WANT TO SERIOUSLY ADDRESS THIS ISSUE, AND I FELT LIKE THEY WERE TRYING TO AVOID ADMITTING TO A MAJOR PROBLEM. *KB

I BEGAN TO NOTICE A WHITE DUST BLOWING FROM MY VENTS WHEN I TURNED THE AIR CONDITIONER ON ABOUT A MONTH AGO. I HAD AN INDEPENDENT REPAIR SHOP AS WELL AS A FORD DEALERSHIP LOOK AT THIS AND THEY BOTH AGREED THAT IT WAS "FLUX" THAT WAS COMING OFF OF THE EVAPORATOR. I WAS TOLD BY THE INDEPENDENT REPAIR SHOP THAT THIS WAS TOXIC AND THAT IT NEEDED REPAIRED IMMEDIATELY. THE DEALERSHIP SAID THIS WAS A KNOWN DEFECT BUT THAT I WOULD HAVE TO PAY FOR IT BECAUSE THE VEHICLE IS NO LONGER UNDER WARRANTY. *TR

SHE TURNED THE VEHICLE OFF RESTARTED IT; ALTHOUGH IT BEGAN TO FUNCTION NORMALLY, WITHIN A FEW MINUTES IT STALLED AGAIN. SHE STATED THAT THE LOWER THE SPEED THE MORE THE VEHICLE WOULD STALL, THE BRAKES AND STEERING WHEEL WOULD ALSO LOCK. THE HIGHER THE SPEED THE VEHICLE WOULD STALL BUT IT WOULD RESTART AUTOMATICALLY. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER WHO REPROGRAMMED THE COMPUTER ON JULY 19,2010. THE FAILURE RECURRED SEVERAL TIMES. THE VEHICLE WAS AT THE DEALERSHIP WHEN THE COMPLAINT WAS FILED. SHE WAS UNABLE TO PROVIDE A VIN. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 31,500.

SHE WAS ABLE TO COAST OFF OF THE HIGHWAY AND CONTACTED THE DEALER. THE DEALER COULD NOT DUPLICATE THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE STALLED THREE ADDITIONAL TIMES, EACH TIME THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER AND THE FAILURE COULD NOT BE DUPLICATED. THE DEALER ADVISED INSTALLING AN EVENT DATA RECORDER (EDR OR BLACK BOX) IN ORDER TO PIN POINT THE EXACT REASON FOR THE FAILURE AND ALSO REPLACED THE STARTER, UNDER WARRANTY, IN HOPES IT WOULD CORRECT THE FAILURE. THE CONTACT WAS CONCERNED WITH HER SAFETY AND THE POSSIBILITY OF A CRASH. THE VEHICLE WAS IN POSSESSION OF THE DEALER. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE UNDER 19,500.
