When you fill your fuel tank completely, the engine suddenly dies while driving, causing a loss of power steering and forcing you off the road. The engine restarts but runs rough and stalls multiple times. You've found that partially filling the tank prevents the problem, suggesting raw fuel may be entering the EVAP system when the tank is full. A fuel system inspection and possible EVAP system repair will be needed to resolve the issue.

Your fuel tank's rollover valve failed right after filling up, which allowed liquid fuel instead of fuel vapor to flow into your engine's intake manifold and caused your car to stall while driving in traffic. This is a known issue covered by a Dodge service bulletin, but Dodge customer service said your vehicle wasn't eligible for the recall despite having the same problem. The repair involves replacing the failed rollover valve and cleaning out the fuel vapor system components that were damaged by the liquid fuel.

SCARED AND WONDERING WHAT THE HECK JUST HAPPENED? I IMMEDIATELY PULLED FORWARD AND PARKED MY CAR AND TURNED THE ENGINE OFF. I GOT OUT OF MY VEHICLE AND NOTICED FLUID LEAKING. I POPPED THE HOOD AND FOUND SOME SHATTERED PLASTIC PIECES. UPON MY 1ST INSPECTIONS MY FAN WAS WHAT SHATTERED. I MADE A FEW CALLS AND WHEN A MECHANIC CAME TO INSPECT 20 MINUTES LATER, HE SAID THE FAN EXPLODED CAUSING PIECES TO THEN HIT THE RADIATOR. NOW BOTH PARTS NEED TO BE REPLACED. NOW INVESTIGATION, I SEE THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM FOR CHARGERS AND I'M WONDERING WHY THERE ISN'T A RECALL. I CANT EVEN IMAGINE WHAT COULD'VE HAPPENED IF I WAS DRIVING. I ALSO HAD MY CHILD IN THE CAR. SCARY ENOUGH WHILE THE CAR WASN'T MOVING. TIS HAPPENED OUT OF THE BLUE WITH NO PRIOR WARNINGS.

DRIVING ON CITY STREET SPEED LIMIT 40MPH CAR BEGAN OVERHEATING. IN ATTEMPT TO FIX THE OVERHEATING ISSUE A NEW WATER PUMP AND 2 NEW RADIATORS HAVE BEEN INSTALLED. THE INITIAL RADIATOR LITERALLY HAD THE ENTIRE BOTTOM FALL OUT. THE COOLING FANS WILL NOT COME ON AND ARE DAMAGED. I WAS SITTING AT A STOP LIGHT AND HEARD A POP. THE COOLING FAN BLADE ON THE PASSENGER SIDE OF THE CAR HAD BROKEN AND MADE A HOLE IN MY RADIATOR. I IMMEDIATELY TOOK THE CAR TO A MECHANIC AND THEY REPLACED THE FAN BLADE AND THE RADIATOR. THREE WEEKS LATER THE EXACT SAME THING HAPPENED TO THE FAN BLADE ON THE DRIVER SIDE OF THE CAR, ONCE AGAIN MAKING A HOLE IN MY NEW RADIATOR. I FEEL THAT THIS IS A HUGE DESIGN FLAW AND, APPARENTLY, A HUGE PROBLEM WITH 2006-2008 CHARGERS. I'M SO GLAD I WAS IN TOWN ON SMALL LOCAL STREETS BOTH TIMES WHEN THIS HAPPENED. IT WOULD HAVE BEEN TERRIBLE IF IT HAD HAPPENED ON THE FREEWAY. I CHECKED WITH THE DEALER TO SEE IF THERE IS ANY KIND OF RECALL FOR THIS PART AND THERE ISN'T. I HAVE THE 5.7L V6 HEMI CHARGER AND IT HAS A LITTLE OVER 100,000 MILES.

I WAS THEN TOLD THAT IT WOULD BE OVER $9000 FOR A NEW ENGINE AS THEY DON'T REPAIR OLD ENGINES.

THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER (CHRYSLER DODGE JEEP, 540-905-7223, WARRENTON, VA) FOR A SECOND DIAGNOSTIC TEST, WHICH CONFIRMED THAT THE ENGINE FAN BLADE FRACTURED AND CAUSED THE RADIATOR TO FAIL. THE MANUFACTURER INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE ENGINE BLADE REPLACEMENT WARRANTY. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 52,000.

PROBLEM #1: ONE OF THE COOLING FAN BLADES SHEERED OFF AND & FLEW INTO THE RADIATOR. I WAS AT A COMPLETE STOP AND BROKE OFF WHEN I STARTED TO ACCELERATE. I REPLACED THE BROKEN BLADE (DIDN'T HAVE ENOUGH MONEY TO REPLACE BOTH) AND RADIATOR. ABOUT A YEAR OR LESS LATER THE OTHER FAN BLADE SHEERED OFF (THE ONE I DIDN'T REPLACE) AND WENT INTO THE RADIATOR. THIS TIME ALSO DURING ACCELERATING AFTER A COMPLETE STOP. DEJA VU. THIS TIME I HAD TO REPLACE THE ENTIRE FAN ASSEMBLY (BECAUSE THE BLADES WERE ON BACKORDER) AND RADIATOR. WHEN I WENT TO THE DODGE DEALERSHIP THEY SAID THERE WAS A RECALL ON THE SAME BLADES BUT ONLY THE 2006 MODEL. PROBLEM #2: IT IS NOW LOOSING PROPULSION. THE POWER STAYS ON IT JUST STOPS MOVING FORWARD. I CAN PUT IT IN PARK & THEN BACK IN GEAR AND IT MOVES, BUT BARELY. IT ISN'T CONSISTENT BUT IT IS TERRIFYING. I HAVE GOOGLED POSSIBLE ISSUES AND IT SEEMS LIKE A LOT OF PEOPLE ARE HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM AND THEY HAVE LINKED IT TO A BAD PCM. I TOOK IT TO A MECHANIC BUT OF COURSE IT DIDN'T DO IT WHILE HE HAD IT. I HAVE BEEN TOLD, BY DODGE, THAT THEY ARE THE ONLY ONES THAT CAN DO A FULL DIAGNOSTIC, THAT OTHER DEVICES ONLY COVER ABOUT 30% OF THE PROGRAM. THAT ALONE SEEMS UNFAIR IF NOT ILLEGAL. I CANNOT AFFORD $110 JUST TO FIND OUT WHAT'S WRONG. MY TRUNK LIGHT DOESN'T WORK EITHER & EVEN DODGE CAN'T FIND OUT WHY. IT'S NOT THE BULB, IT'S NOT THE FUSE, AND THE ELECTRICAL CONNECTION IS GOOD. ACCORDING TO THEM. I HAVE MORE IMAGES AND RECEIPTS BUT CAN'T FIGURE OUT HOW TO ATTACH THEM.

WE ALSO OBSERVED FLUID INSIDE OF THE HOOD UNDERNEATH OF THW LINE DIRECTLY ACROSS FROM THE BROKEN HANGING FAN BLADE. WE ALSO OBSERVED FLUID ON THE GROUND DIRECTLY UNDERNEATH OF THIS LINE. VEHICLE HAS 137,000 MILES ON IT. VEHICLE IS SCHEDULED TO GO INTO SHOP MONDAY MORNING.

COST ME $677.27 TO REPLACE THE RADIATOR, THE HOESE, ANTIFREEZE, HOSE CLAMPS AND RADIATOR FAN MOTOR ASSEMLY. THE GUY THAT FIXED MINE SAID HE SEE THIS EVERY WEEK IN CHARGERS. INFACT OUR WHOLE POLICE DEPARTMENT SWITCHED FROM CHARGES FOR THIS REASON. I CALLED THE DEALERSHIP AND THE DODGE # AND THEY SAID THERE IS NOTHING TO DO TO HELP OUT BECAUSE OF AGE AND MILEAGE OF CARE. WASN'T HAPPY BECAUSE ONLINE THERE ARE PLENTY OF DISCUSSIONS ABOUT THE SAME ISSUE.MY DEALERSHIP DOESN'T FIX THEM UNLESS THEY ARE UNDERWARRANTY. I WAS TOLD THAT ALL OR MOST THE 2.7 ENGINES HAS HAD THIS ISSUE AND HAD TO REPLACE THE WHOLE ENGINE. ACCORDING TO THE NOTIFICATION IT STATES THAT ONLY THE SEVERE COOLING SYSTEMS ON 2006-2008 DODGE CHARGERS ARE HAVING THIS OCCUR. I HAVE HAD THE CAR STALL THREE TIMES IN A ROW ON A SINGLE INSTANCE RECENTLY WITH THE THIRD TIME IT FINALLY CAUGHT AND DID NOT STALL, BUT I FEARED IT WOULD NOT START AT ALL. I HAVE HAD AN INSTANCE RECENTLY OF THE CAR STALLING WHILE AT LOW SPEEDS (10-20 MPH) AS I'M SLOWING DOWN. ALL OTHER TIMES WERE AT AN ACTUAL STOP. ON 09/23/2013 AT ABOUT 7AM I WAS DRIVING TO WORK ABOUT 20 MILES UPON ARRIVAL THE VEHICLE STARTED SMOKING FROM UNDER THE HOOD. I PARKED AND INSPECTED THE VEHICLE AND FOUND SOME WATER LEAKING FROM THE RADIATOR, I LET THE ENGINE COOL FOR ABOUT 4 HOURS AND AT LUNCH WENT OUT AND ADDED WATER TO THE VEHICLE AS I ADDED THE WATER IT POURED DIRECTLY OUT. I FURTHER INSPECTED THE VEHICLE AND FOUND THAT ALL SEVEN RADIATOR FAN BLADES HAD SEPARATED FROM THE MAIN HOUSING THAT WAS INTACT AND NOT LOOSE OR DISTORTED AND IMPELLED THEMSELVES THROUGH THE RADIATOR. I RESEARCHED THIS ISSUE AND FOUND THAT DODGE HAD A SERVICE BULLETIN CSN-L08 ISSUED IN 2011 FOR THE DODGE MAGNUM AND OTHER VEHICLES. WHEN I CONTACTED THEM THEY ADVISED I WAS OUT OF WARRANTY AND THERE WAS NOTHING THEY COULD DO. I DO NOT FEEL THIS IS A WARRANTY ISSUE IF IT HAS HAPPENED IN 2011 AND STILL HAPPENING IN 2013 AND SHOULD BE INVESTIGATED FURTHER IF SOMEONE IS WORKING ON ONE OF THESE VEHICLES AND THE FAN BLADES COME APART. I HAD IT TOWED TO THE NEAREST CHRYSLER/DODGE DEALERSHIP/SERVICE CENTER AND AFTER ABOUT A WEEK I WAS INFORMED THAT THE #2 CYLINDER HAD 0 PSI COMPRESSION. THEY SAID THEY HAD TO OPEN THE ENGINE TO GET FURTHER INFORMATION AS TO WHY IT HAD NO COMPRESSION. AFTER OPENING THE ENGINE, THEY FOUND THAT THE VALVE SEAT FOR THE #2 CYLINDER WAS WARN AND NEEDS TO BE REPLACED. GIVEN THAT THIS VEHICLE ONLY HAS 70K MILES ON IT, I BELIEVE THIS FAILURE IS PREMATURE. HE FINALLY GETS IT HOME, TRIES TO START IT AGAIN AND NOW ITS MAKING A GRINDING NOISE. HE CUTS ENGINE OFF, CHECKS FOR OTHER PROBLEMS, TRIES TO START AGAIN BUT THIS TIME ITS A LOUD KNOCKING. WE CALL TOW TRUCK, TOW IT TO DEALERSHIP AND AM TOLD THAT IT NEEDS NEW ENGINE AND THE COST IS $8000 AND SAID MANUFACTURER WARRANTY DOESN'T COVER IT EVEN TOUGH TO ME IT SEEMS LIKE A DEFAULT IN MANUFACTURING. TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 DODGE CHARGER. THE CONTACT HAS OWNED THE VEHICLE FOR ONLY TWO MONTHS AND IT HAS ALREADY BEEN IN THE SHOP THREE TIMES. HE STATED THAT THE ENGINE MAKES A NOISE WHILE THE VEHICLE IS IDLE. THE PCV VALVE WAS DIAGNOSED AS THE CAUSE OF FAILURE. APPROXIMATELY TWO DAYS LATER, THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO ANOTHER DEALER BECAUSE THE BRAKES WERE POPPING AND SQUEALING. THE BRAKES WERE REPAIRED, BUT THE ENGINE NOISE CONTINUED. THE MECHANIC COMPARED THE CONTACT'S VEHICLE TO ANOTHER VEHICLE AND CONFIRMED THAT HIS VEHICLE WAS EXPERIENCING FAILURE. THERE WERE NO WARNING INDICATORS PRESENT. THE POWERTRAIN WAS UNKNOWN. THE CURRENT MILEAGE IS 6,333 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 3,000.
