ELECTRICAL SYSTEM:IGNITION
General Motors LLC (GM) is recalling certain model year 2016-2017 Buick Verano and 2016 Chevrolet Malibu as the electronic park lock lever may allow the ignition key to be removed without the transmission being in PARK. Also, certain 2013 Buick Encore, 2011 Buick Regal, 2013-2014 Buick Verano, 2011-2016 Chevrolet Cruze, 2010-2013 Chevrolet Equinox 2013-2015 Chevrolet Malibu, and 2011-2013 GMC Terrain vehicles may have been serviced with similar defective replacement electronic park lock levers. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 114, "Theft Protection and Rollaway Prevention."
Fix: GM will notify owners, and dealers will inspect and if necessary replace the key cylinder lock housing, free of charge. The recall began on October 14, 2016. Owners may contact Chevrolet customer service at 1-800-222-1020, Buick 1-800-521-7300, and GMC 1-800-462-8782. GM's number for this recall is 50490 and 50491.
ELECTRICAL SYSTEM:WIRING
General Motors LLC (GM) is recalling certain model year 2013 Chevrolet Malibu vehicles manufactured October 25, 2011, through June 29, 2012 and equipped with the 8-way power adjustable front seat feature. The wiring harness for the power seat may contact the seat frame which may chafe the harness.
Fix: GM will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the wire harness and repair and secure it as necessary, free of charge. The recall began during December 2013. Owners may contact GM at 1-800-521-7300. GM's recall campaign number is 13342.
ELECTRICAL SYSTEM:SOFTWARE
GENERAL MOTORS (GM) IS RECALLING CERTAIN MODEL YEAR 2013 CHEVROLET MALIBU VEHICLES MANUFACTURED FROM OCTOBER 24, 2011, THROUGH MARCH 31, 2012. AFTER AN EVENT OF HARD BRAKING, THE SENSING AND DIAGNOSTIC MODULE (SDM) MAY RESET ITSELF.
Fix: GM WILL NOTIFY OWNERS, AND DEALERS WILL REPROGRAM THE SDM. THIS SERVICE WILL BE PERFORMED FREE OF CHARGE. THE SAFETY RECALL BEGAN ON JUNE 13, 2012.

The electrical system has caused the car to stop mid traffic multiple times while driving. Had everything checked and it does it multiple times with my kids in the car. The transmission stalls and when you hit the gas it ramps up but doesn’t move until last minute and jumps causing the car to be unsafe nd jump into traffic . I see it has many recalls for this year and vehicle but yet my con isn’t showing up but it definitely has those issues . It not safe to drive at all. The electrical issue cause the battery to die over night constantly jumping it over and over to start it.
My instrument cluster is failing
Out of no where my car would not start. I got it jumped and took it to an auto store and they checked the battery and alternator health and it all came back great. I was able to drive it home from there and two hours later it wouldn’t start again
The instrument cluster temporarily shorts out or goes blank and them comes back on and resets in a different display mode. There are various display modes having different information such as mph, fuel efficiency, etc. Several repair shops tell me that in order to diagnose the problem, the cluster has to be exhibiting the problem when they look at it. In other words, it has to be a continuous short out. It's not continuous, it's temporary and sporadic or random. This is a direct safety issue in that the driver has no reading on the vehicle speed and when the short out becomes long term or permanent the car will have to be driven with no reading of speed or engine monitoring parameters such as temperature and oil pressure. New clusters are no longer available and rebuilt requires shipping the existing cluster for exchange. This is a common problem, as documented through Google search. Concerning the vehicle speed question below, anywhere from 0 to 70 mph.
My instrument cluster isn't working correctly. Some days I go out to start my car and the instrument cluster works. As I'm driving down the road my instrument cluster just stops working. My speedometer doesn't work, my rpms, the lights, temperature gauge and gas gauge just stops working. It's very scary and my transmission doesn't want to shift and my engine power is bogging down. This is really dangerous and I feel like my life is in danger. I pull off the road and shut my 2013 Chevy Malibu off and restart it and sometimes it comes back on and instrument cluster works but start driving and the instrument cluster stops working again. I have had my mechanic try to figure it out but so far I haven't been able to find out where the issue is so I haven't been able to fix it. My brakes have also been not engaging properly. I have had to replace my brakes 3 times so far after I got the brakes fixed for the 3rd time I haven't had very many problems. I also had to replace all my hubs as well as the brakes. Also something electrical isn't functioning correctly and when I shut my car off it makes a clicking noise right after I turn my car off. I'm a member of a Chevy Malibu group and there are thousands of people from all over the world with the same issues that I'm having with my vehicle. No warning lights have came on for any of the problems I'm having with my car. Please look into this and help me,us that are having these issues Thank you for your time. Without any warning and while driving the MALIBU 2LT goes into engine reduced power mode and will not excel over 50mph. NEXT, the Service stable track warning light would come on intermittently and disable traction control. This is very dangerous. Also the MALIBU 2LT will jerk at the wheel without warning when the power steering warning comes on. Additionally, power steering fluid does not have a measuring device to see when it falls below the required amount needed. It’s basically a guessing game that costs over $120.00 to have checked with no real resolve .

On the backside of instrument gauge cluster the soldering goes bad and seems to be a common problem with this year of Malibu.You lose all function and lighting of cluster while driving so you have no speedometer, fuel or temperature gauges and it goes black. I would consider this a factory defect if the solder does not hold up. It can be very dangerous for the driver. The cluster would go on and off for awhile but fails to work at all now.

While driving the car restarts as if i was just starting the car and all the light flicker on and off

The gauge cluster in my car has intermittently lost power for about two years. It is now almost always off. I have been unable to have this repaired as the parts have been unavailable nationwide since I initially started having problems. I can't see any of my gauges. I have no idea how much gas I have, if my car is overheating, or if my car is having any other sort of problem.

I'm having a lost of battery power in my 2013 Chevy Malibu Eco. when it happens it shows that i should service the charging system. and as i continue to drive both batteries lose power and run out. i have checked the recall for it and it is not coming up under my vin number. at times have no problem but when it does happen the battery light comes on then the check engine light comes on and I start loosing more power and it tells me to check my charging system. what should i do the next time it happens?

The light of the dashboard went on and off several times while I was driving and almost the car went off, I had to press the speed pedal so it won't turn off. I took it ti a electrical shop and the guy told me that is an manufactured problem that special year and model had before and they where call to a recall to fix that problem. My driver seat is powered and it is inoperative. It remains stuck in a reclined position. At first the seat would not return to an upright position but all the other power functions (reclining the seat, moving it forward and back, tilting the seat, moving it up/down) still worked. I took the car to a shop and they said that the cause was some of the wiring had disconnected. They took the seat out and made sure everything was plugged in correctly. The seat worked again but only for a short while. Now, the issue is present again and the driver seat will not move forward/back or return to an upright position. This is hazardous because the seat is not able to offer the driver the correct seating position to drive.
Car gives engine power reduced warning and then drastically loses speed. Another warning saying engine over speed comes up and the car is unable to accelerate at safe speeds. This is dangerous because I can easily be rear ended by this malfunction especially when driving on the highway. I have children and having them at risk of being in a motor vehicle accident due to a malfunctioning car does not sit well with me. I have seen this issue reported on several other platforms. When I took the car to the dealership regarding this issue I was told I needed to replace the battery but 2 batteries later and I’m still having the same issue. There is no warnings or signs prior to this malfunction happening, it is unpredictable and at random, making it that more dangerous. I would also like to add that this has happened a repeated number of times, it is not an isolated incident. But as of late it has been occurring more frequently.

I brought my 2013 Malibu LT in March of 2021. When I test drove and took it to autozone to get a diagnosis before buying the car nothing was wrong with it. After having the car for about 3 months the problems started. When I went to get it checked again it said that my alternator wasn’t working correctly how it should do I replaced the alternator. After getting the alternator replaced my car still stalls while driving and acts like it doesn’t want to go. When I try to start my car it barely turns over to start. While I’m driving I can’t turn on the radio or lights because it makes my car power go out. The radio lights turn on and off. When I put car in reverse it shuts off. When I’m driving the car shuts off out of nowhere and I have to put it in park and turn it back on. Sometimes it takes awhile to turn back on. When it first happened the engine reduced power popped up as a warning then the engine light came on the dashboard on and off. Everyone says they don’t know what is wrong with it so I feel that the manufacturer should be reliable to fix these problems for us customers. These problems put my child and I at risk by stopping out of nowhere in traffic. I’m currently pregnant and it happened with me and my kids in the car.
Both low beam headlights stopped working. Two days later the passenger side low beam headlight turned on again, but not the driver side. 2 months later both low beams again no longer working. I've replaced all 4 fuses (interior and exterior), headlight relay, and bulbs. None of that fixed the problem.

When driving my dash lights quit for days and then sometimes come back on. I am not aware of what speed I am going when driving. I am not able to accurately drive the speed limit that I am suppose to. I don’t know how much gas I have or if I am about to run out of gas. If my check engine light is on or not, and can’t see my turn signals. How can you obey the laws of driving when you can’t tell if you are going over the speed limit or not or using your turn signal.
ALL ELECTRICAL INSIDE CAR GOES OUT OR ON AND OFF WHILE DRIVING. ALL DASH GAUGES, SPEEDOMETER, GAS GAUGE, RADIO, HEAT/AC, TURN SIGNALS, ETC. CAR STILL RUNS BUT NOTHING ON INSIDE WORKS. I do not know if this control outage effects the ABS or Steering. It only last for a few seconds. It has happened several time will drive 50 to 70 MPH. I've let off the gas and try not to panic. Everything comes back on and I continue home. I'm scared to drive my car
Instrument cluster goes out and is available for inspection. It first went out in the middle of driving 80 on the freeway with others in my vehicle. I have taken it to a Point S mechanic who has confirmed the issue and can be easily recreated just by turning the car on. Nobody has inspected other than a mechanic because I did not know that was even an option. No, there was absolutely no warning to indicate the issue, only the check engine light would work and that issue has been temporarily resolved. Due to research, I, along with many others, have come to the conclusion that it is a fault in manufacturing where one of the resisters in the cluster was not soldered correctly causing a failure in connection. I believe there should have been a recall on the equipment, especially seeing as how common this issue is and that the product isn't even made/sold anymore. It is upsetting to see the ratio of 2 investigations compared to over 700 complaints.
Car is stuck in heat. Sometimes the controls come on by themselves and hard to turn off. Heat does not defrost the window it sometime make it worse and hard to see while driving. Was told that it is not the compressor but the wiring and programming of the control system. A recall for other years have been issued for similar issues. This is the third report filed.

ALL ELECTRICAL INSIDE CAR GOES OUT OR ON AND OFF WHILE DRIVING. ALL DASH GAUGES, SPEEDOMETER, GAS GAUGE, RADIO, HEAT/AC, TURN SIGNALS, ETC. CAR STILL RUNS BUT NOTHING ON INSIDE WORKS.
ON NUMEROUS OCCASIONS, VEHICLE HAS SHUT COMPLETELY OFF. BECAUSE IT IS AN ECO ENGINE, I ASSUMED IT WAS SIMPLY IDLING DOWN, WHILE STATIONARY A TRAFFIC LIGHT OR STOP SIGN, AS USUAL BUT THAT WAS NOT THE CASE. THE FIRST COUPLE OF TIMES THE VEHICLE SHUTOFF WAS AT TRAFFIC LIGHTS, AND DRIVE THROUGH LANES. AND THEN THE VEHICLE SHUTOFF WHILE ON THE INTERSTATE AT 70 MILES PER HOUR. SHORTLY AFTER THAT INCIDENT, THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. I REPLACED THE BATTERY BUT THE CAR HAS STILL HAD TO BE JUMPED OFF THREE TIMES SINCE THE REPLACEMENT. AND WHEN I HAD THOSE CODES REPAIRED, NOW THE VEHICLE DRIVES AS IF IT ISN'T GETTING GAS AND THEN ALL OF SUDDEN IT WILL JERK AND ACCELERATE QUICKLY. LASTLY, WHEN THE BRAKES ARE USED ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS, THE PEDAL WILL SUDDENLY GO ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOORBOARD, THEN COME AND TIGHTEN TO POINT I CAN BARELY PRESS THE BRAKES. I HAVE REPLACED THE BRAKES ON THREE SEPARATE OCCASIONS AND THE MECHANICS DO NOT UNDERSTAND WHAT IS CAUSING THAT ISSUE TO OCCUR.

THE CONTACT THEN CALLED CHAS. H. JENKINS AND CO. (307 NC-42, AHOSKIE, NC 27910) WHERE SHE WAS INFORMED THAT THERE WERE NO RECALLS ON THE VIN IN RELATION TO THE FAILURE. UPON INVESTIGATION, THE CONTACT DISCOVERED NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 13V173000 (ELECTRICAL SYSTEM) WHICH SHE LINKED TO THE FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 180,000.

SO WHAT CAN I DO I'M TIRED SPENDING MONEY TO GET IT LOOKED AT AND ALL I'M GETTING FROM PEOPLE NOTHING IS WRONG WITH YOUR VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS PURCHASED FROM A DEALERSHIP IN JUNE OF 2020. SINCE OWNING THE VEHICLE, THE VEHICLE HAS HAD NOTHING BUT ISSUES. MAJOR ISSUES INCLUDING A STALLING/PUTTERING VIBRATION WHEN STOPPED AT A LIGHT AS WELL AS JUST STARTING THE CAR, IT HAS AN EXTREMELY LOUD START AND ROUGH. HAVE HAD THIS VEHICLE IN AND OUT OF THE DEALERSHIP MULTIPLE TIMES INCLUDING ONE VISIT TAKING 3 WEEKS WITH A RENTAL I WAS GIVEN. THE ISSUES ARE STILL ALL HERE, INCLUDING AN OVERHEATING WITH MY WARNING SYSTEMS NOT GIVING ANY SORT OF SIGNS OR LIGHTS, ONSTAR THANKFULLY TOLD ME TO GET THE VEHICLE IN IMMEDIATELY AS I WAS IN THE RED FOR OVERHEATING AND THE FAN STILL CONTINUES TO WORK AFTER THE CAR HAS BEEN OFF FOR A FEW MINUTES. ENGINE POWER REDUCED CONTINUES TO SHOW UP AFTER SEVERAL FIXES INCLUDING AN ENGINE REPLACEMENT MANY TIMES I WILL BE DRIVING AND THE VEHICLE WILL TURN OFF OR SLOW DOWN TO DANGEROUSLY SLOW SPEEDS AS LOW AS 10 MILES AND HOUR. THIS IS A CONSTANT ISSUE AND OTHER MALIBU DRIVERS ARE EXPERIENCING.

I WAS TRAVELING ON 294 SOUTH USING CRUISE CONTROL AT 70 MPH WHEN THE CAR STARTED LOSING POWER BUT ALL INTERNAL APP LIGHTS LIKE THE RADIO REMAINED ON AND THE STEERING WHEEL WAS STILL FUNCTIONAL. ONCE THE VEHICLE WAS PUT IN PARKED IT SHUT OFF. ONLY ISSUE LIGHTS THAT APPEARED 1 WEEK PRIOR WAS THE ABS SENSOR HAD MALFUNCTIONED ON THE FRONT LEFT TIRE. I ATTEMPTED TO JUMP THE BATTERY BUT IT DID NOT RESPOND. CAR HAD BEEN PARKED AND A FRIEND WHO WORKS ON CARS BELIEVES THE ENGINE IS DEAD EVEN THOUGH THERE SHOWS 23% OF OIL LEFT AND NO OTHER SYMPTOMS OF A BLOWN ENGINE. I HAVE BEEN GOODLAND 2013 CHEVY MALIBU ECO ISSUES AND OTHER THAN POTENTIALLY THE STARTER IT COULD BE THE COMPUTER THAT HAS DIED. I CHANGED OUT THE BATTERY AND IT TURNS EVERYTHING ON, BUT STRUGGLES TO CRANK AND REMAIN ON. I CAME ACROSS SEVERAL LINKS REGARDING A RECALL DUE TO COMPUTER, BUT HONESTLY DON'T KNOW IF ITS EVEN THAT. MECHANIC FRIEND BELIEVES IT COULD ALSO BE THE ECM.

THE MANUFACTURER HAD YET TO BE NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE HAD YET TO BE REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS UNKNOWN.
THE PASSENGER AIRBAG SENSOR HAS GONE BAD MAKING IT EXTREMELY DANGEROUS TO DRIVE WITH A PASSENGER IN MY VEHICLE BECAUSE ANYTHING ELECTRONIC ON THE DASH WILL TURN OFF, AS WELL AS THE A/C AND RADIO ETC. THIS IS AN EXTREME SAFETY HAZARD. I'VE SEEM NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS ABOUT THIS AIRBAG SENSOR ISSUES YET EVERYTIME I'VE CHECKED, THERE IS NO RECALL FOR THIS PROBLEM. ENGAGED CRUISE CONTROL, WOULD NOT DISENGAGE WHEN BRAKING, OR BY STEERING WHEEL CONTROL WITHOUT SEVERAL ATTEMPTS. WAS ABLE TO SLOWLY INCREASE SPEED TO 50 MPH, MADE IT HOME VIA HILLY SECONDARY ROADS (MAX 50 MPH) AND STOPPED VEHICLE (BRAKE; STILL IN DRIVE), ENGINE TRIED TO GO TO THE ENGINE REST MODE PRIOR TO SHIFTING TO PARK. SHIFTED TO PARK, ENGINE TRIED TO RE-START AND WOULDN'T AUTOMATICALLY DISENGAGE ATTEMPTING TO TURN OVER. SHUT OFF THE ENGINE AND PULLED KEY. WOULD NOT RE-START, BUT WOULD CRANK. WHEN LETTING GO OF KEY IN THE STEERING WHEEL COLUMN, THE ENGINE WOULD STILL TRY TO TURN OVER ON ITS OWN WITH A LOUD HIGH PITCHED WHINE. HAD TO QUICKLY REMOVE KEY ENTIRELY. I HAVE VIDEO CLIPS TOGETHER OF THIS INCIDENT, AVAILABLE BY EMAIL. HAD NEW BATTERY DELIVERED OVERNIGHT, DID NOT FIX ISSUE. WHILE DRIVING MY VEHICLE AND I COME TO A STOP THE ENGINE DIES OUT. THERE IS NO CHECK ENGINE LIGHT OR WARNING BEFORE THIS HAPPENS AND IT HAS ALMOST CAUSED AN ACCIDENT 3 TIMES NOW. SO I HAD SOMEONE AT A CAR SHOP TRY TO FIX IT BUT NOW THE LIGHT IS GOING ON AND OFF AGAIN. WE RENTED A CAR DOLLY AND PULLED OUR BROKEN CAR THE ENTIRE WAY HOME. IT SITS IN THE DRIVE WAY AS I TYPE THIS GIVING NO CODES FOR ME TO FOLLOW.

BUT IT'S THE SAME TYPE OF CAR THAT THE RECALL IS ON. THE CAR WHILE RUNNING ON HIGHWAY FOR 50 MILES OR MORE WILL START THE LOSS OF BATTERY CHARGING. THE CONTACT PURCHASED A NEW BATTERY; HOWEVER, A WEEK LATER, WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 30 MPH, THE VEHICLE LOST POWER, ALL THE WARNING INDICATORS ILLUMINATED AGAIN, THE STEERING WHEEL BECAME DIFFICULT TO TURN, AND THE VEHICLE DID NOT STOP WHEN THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED. AS A RESULT, THE CONTACT REAR ENDED A BUS. THE CONTACT SUSTAINED BRUISING AND SORENESS TO THE ARMS, NECK, WRIST, SHOULDER, AND BACK THAT REQUIRED MEDICAL ATTENTION. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE DEALER STATED THAT THEY WOULD NOT DIAGNOSE THE VEHICLE UNTIL THE BODY DAMAGE WAS REPAIRED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. ADDITIONALLY, A TON OF ERROR MESSAGES WERE FLASHING, AS WELL AS ALL INDOOR AND OUTDOOR LIGHTS FLASHING, EVEN THE DECORATIVE PANEL BLUE STRIP LIGHTS. I WAS TERRIFIED. I HAD TO HAVE IT TOWED FROM THE SCENE. AT FIRST, THE OFFICER DIDN'T BELIEVE ME, THAT IT WAS THE CAR'S FAULT, NOT MINE, BUT ONCE SHE SAW WHAT WAS HAPPENING, SHE BELIEVED ME. THE TOW TRUCK DRIVER SAID THE CAR WAS POSSESSED, HE HAD NEVER SEEN ANYTHING LIKE THIS BEFORE. THE CAR HAD ALMOST 53,000 MILES ON IT, ONE YEAR TO GO WITH PAYMENTS, AND I HAD BEEN PLANNING TO KEEP IT ONCE IT WAS PAID OFF, UNTIL THIS HAPPENED. IT COULD HAVE BEEN SO MUCH WORSE. I'M PRETTY SURE THIS WAS WHAT CAUSED THE ACCIDENT, BUT BOTH GENERAL MOTORS AND MY CHEVROLET DEALER SAY THIS MEANS NOTHING. I SOLD THE CAR AND BOUGHT A MITSUBISHI MIRAGE. I WILL NEVER BUY A CHEVY AGAIN. DEALERSHIP REPLACED BCM, COULD NOT GUARANTEE THIS FIXED THE PROBLEM. INDICATED THEY HAD NEVER SEEN THE ISSUE BEFORE. WITHIN 2 WEEKS, ALL ISSUES REPEATED THEMSELVES. RETURNED TO DEALERSHIP. THE DEALERSHIP KEPT THE CAR FOR 2 WEEKS AND THEN CALLED ME AND LEFT A MESSAGE TO PICK IT UP AS THEY COULD NOT FIND THE ISSUE. WHEN I CALLED BACK, THE DEALERSHIP SAID "IT WAS A GOOD THING YOU HAVEN'T PICKED UP THE VEHICLE YET, IT STARTED ON ITS OWN 3 TIMES THIS MORNING". IF I HAD PICKED THIS VEHICLE UP, THE ISSUE WOULD HAVE HAPPENED AGAIN WHILE I WAS AT HOME. CASE HAS BEEN FILED WITH CHEVROLET CUSTOMER CAR, AND SUFS (GM GLOBAL SAFETY). NO ACTION HAS BEEN TAKEN. NO ENGINEERS HAVE BEEN SENT DOWN TO LOOK AT THE CAR FROM GM HEADQUARTERS. AFTER THE CAR STARTED ON ITS OWN AT THE DEALERSHIP, THEY CHANGED OUT THE IGNITION SWITCH, BUT AGAIN, CANNOT GUARANTEE THE ISSUES WON'T REOCCUR. CAR WAS RETURNED TO THE DEALERSHIP FOR A THIRD TIME ON MAY 2ND AFTER THE HEADLIGHTS TURNED ON AND OFF 3 TIMES ON THE WAY TO WORK ON MAY 1ST. AFTER HAVING THE VEHICLE UNTIL MAY 10TH, I WAS INFORMED THAT THE DEALERSHIP COULD NOT FIND AN ISSUE, AND I SHOULD PICK THE CAR UP AS THEY COULD NOT DIAGNOSE THE PROBLEM IF THEY DO NOT SEE IT. THE RESPONSE FROM GM HAS BEEN A JOKE. THE CAR IS NOT SAFE TO DRIVE. I CANNOT DRIVE IT AT NIGHT, AND CANNOT PART IT IN MY GARAGE, AS IT COULD START AND CAUSE MY ENTIRE FAMILY TO DIE FROM CARBON MONOXIDE POISONING, OR COULD OVERHEAT FROM RUNNING IN PARK WHILE WE ARE SLEEPING AND START A FIRE. WHEN MY 2013 CHEVY MALIBU IS IN MOTION AND SOMEONE IS IN THE PASSENGER SEAT (MANY BUT NOT ALL TIMES) ALL OF THE ELECTRONICS, INCLUDING THE ELECTRONIC SPEEDOMETER, AND ALL DASHBOARD GAUGES, IN THE CAR STOP WORKING AND NOTIFICATIONS ABOUT THE AIRBAG SYSTEM AND BRAKING SYSTEM APPEAR. THE MECHANICAL ASPECTS OF THE CAR STILL SEEM TO WORK FINE, BUT THE NOTIFICATIONS ABOUT THE AIRBAGS AND BRAKING MAKE ME CONCERNED THAT IT IS NOT SAFE. THIS HAS BEEN HAPPENING FOR A YEAR. I HAVE TRIED TAKING MY VEHICLE TO THE DEALERSHIP MULTIPLE TIMES AND HAVE BEEN TOLD THEY EITHER CANNOT REPLICATE IT OR THEY WILL "FIX" SOMETHING THAT DOESN'T END UP SOLVING THE PROBLEM. GIVEN THAT THIS PROBLEM STARTED RANDOMLY AND NOT WITH ANY INTERVENTION ON MY PART OF THE PART OF ANY MECHANIC, I AM CONTACTING NHTSA BECAUSE I AM CONCERNED THAT THIS PROBLEM IS RELATED TO THE AIRBAG SENSOR IN THE PASSENGER SEAT AND THAT THIS MIGHT BE HAPPENING WITH OTHER PEOPLE AND COULD REPRESENT REAL DANGER IF THIS REALLY IS AFFECTING THE AIRBAG AND BRAKING SYSTEMS (EVEN WHEN THE PASSENGER SEAT IS NOT IN USE).
HAVE BEEN HAVING ISSUES WITH THE BATTERY SINCE I GOT THE CAR BACK IN 2017. REPLACED THE BATTERY 3 TIMES WITH A YEAR THINKING IT WAS JUST A DEAD BATTERY. AFTER THE THIRD TIME IT HAPPENED TOOK IT TO THE DEALERSHIP AND WAS TOLD THAT THE BATTERY CABLES NEEDED TO BE CLEANED AND BATTERY NEEDED TO BE REPLACED PAID 400 DOLLARS FOR THAT . 6 MONTHS LATER SAME PROBLEM HAPPENS. I'M IN MY CAR BATTERY LIGHT COMES ON , BATTERY VOLTAGE STARTS TO GET LOW, CAR LOSSES ALL POWER AND I AM STRANDED. HAD IT TOWED TO THE DEAL SHIP BECAUSE I JUST HAD THIS SAME PROBLEM 6 MONTHS AGO . AFTER A WEEK IN THE SHOP I WAS TOLD IT WAS THE BELT AND THE REPAIRS WOULD BE 400 DOLLARS AGAIN. I WENT AHEAD AND AGREED TO HAVE THEM WORK ON THE CAR FOR A CALL A DAY LATER SAYING SOMETHING ELSE'S WAS WRONG AND REPAIRS WERE NOW 1550 DOLLAR. WENT AHEAD AND AGREED TO GET IT FIXED ASKED IS THIS GOING TO FIX MY PROBLEM I'M HAVING WITH THE BATTERY WAS TOLD YES. GOT MY CAR OUT THE SHOP AND HAD THE SAME ISSUE WITH THE BATTERY LIGHT AND CAR STALLING IN LESS THAN 24 HOURS OF HAVING THE CAR OUT OF THE SHOP. I SEARCHED RECALLS AND DID SEE ONE FOR THIS CAR ABOUT THE GCM CAUSES THE BATTERY LIGHT TO COME ON. WHERE I SEARCHED MY VIN NUMBER RECALL DID NOT SHOW UP FOR MY CAR. WHAT AM I TO DO NOW THE DESCRIPTION OF WHAT'S HAPPENING WITH MY CAR FITS THE DESCRIPTION OF A RECALL WITH THIS MAKE MODEL AND YEAR OF MY CAR.

THE CAR STALLED AFTER PUTTING IT IN REVERSE NEARLY CAUSING ME TO GET HIT, THE ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON SO WE TOOK IT DIRECTLY TO OUR MECHANIC. THE CODE FOR A BAD CAM SOLENOID WAS LISTED, AND THAT WAS REPLACED. DROVE IT FOR ABOUT A WEEK, STILL NOTICING ISSUES WITH RPMS, AND WHEN BRAKING, THE RPMS WOULD INCREASE. JUST HAD TO DROP IT BACK OFF AT MECHANIC BECAUSE WHILE GOING 30MPH, THE CAR WHEN TO 4000 RPMS AND THE 'ENGINE OVERSPEED' LIGHT CAME ON THE DASH, AND THE CAR WAS LOSING POWER. WHEN I INFORMED CHEVY OF MY ANGER TOWARDS THE MEMO BEING KEPT FROM ME THEY REPLIED THAT I WASN'T ALLOWED TO HAVE THE INFORMATION SINCE I WASN'T A CHEVY MECHANIC. I GOT IN THE CAR THE NEXT DAY THE DASHBOARD LIGHTS CAME ON.. I TOOK IT GEORGE MATICK CHEVROLET ON OCTOBER 24, 2017 AND THEY WERE UNABLE TO DIAGNOSE ANYTHING, THE CAR CONTINUED TO DO THE SAME WITH THE LIGHTS BLINKING ON AND OFF INCLUDING THE SIGNAL LIGHT WHILE DRIVING UNTIL ONE DAY THE DASHBOARD WAS COMPLETELY BLACK AND THE BATTERY DIED COMPLETELY DOWN AND I HAD TO HAVE THE CAR TOWED TO GEORGE MATICK CHEVY ON JANUARY 31, 2018. ONCE AGAIN THEY SAID THEY COULDN'T DIAGNOSE ANYTHING BOOSTED THE CAR AND THAT'S IT. STILL TO THIS DAY THE CAR CONTINUES DOING THE SAME AND THE DEALERSHIP IS SAYING NOTHING IS WRONG. I FEEL UNSAFE AND BELIEVE THIS IS ELECTRICAL AND WONDER IF THE CAR WILL CATCH ON FIRE. I ALSO WONDER IF IT WILL START UP EVERY DAY AND WHAT IS GOING TO HAPPEN WHEN I DRIVE IT. EVERY SINGLE DAY IT IS DOING THIS. I KEEP CONTACTING THE DEALER AND THEY BASICALLY ARE SAYING IF THE MACHINE CANNOT DO ANYTHING THEY CANNOT HELP ME. I WANT TO KNOW IF THERE IS ANOTHER WAY THIS ISSUE CAN BE CHECKED OR IF I HAVE TO TRADE IN A CAR THAT I JUST GOT OVER A YEAR AGO. THEY WANT ME TO BRING IT IN AND KEEP PAYING FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING TO TELL ME NOTHING IS WRONG. I AM NO MECHANIC BUT I DO KNOW THAT THE DASHBOARD INSTRUMENT PANEL INDICATOR LIGHT SIGNALS ETC SHOULD NOT BLINK WHILE DRIVING AND THE DASH SHOULD NEVER GO BLACK WHILE DRIVING. PLEASE HELP ME BECAUSE I AM REALLY AFRAID TO DRIVE AND CANNOT GET ANYONE TO UNDERSTAND THIS IS A SAFETY HAZARD WHEN YOU CANNOT SEE YOUR SPEED, GAS LEVEL, ETC. SAFETY RISK: THE ENTIRE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM SHUTS DOWN WHILE THE CAR IS IN MOTION. RADIO AND DASHBOARD LIGHTS GO OUT AND THE POWER STEERING FAILS. THIS MALFUNCTION OCCURS RANDOMLY BOTH ON HIGHWAYS, STREET DRIVING (STOP-START), WHILE MAKING LEFT OR RIGHT TURNS AND REVERSING OUT OF PARKING SPACES. I HAVE TAKEN THE CAR TO THE DEALER FROM WHICH I PURCHASED THE VEHICLE (SCHUMACHER CHEVROLET IN CLIFTON, NJ) 3 TIMES AND THEY CLAIM THEY CANNOT REPLICATE THE PROBLEM ON TEST DRIVING. ON THE 1ST VISIT THEY SAID IT WAS THE RADIO AND REPLACED A PART. ON THE 2ND VISIT THEY SAID IT WAS THE BATTERY, WHICH WAS REPLACED YET THE PROBLEM PERSISTS. MY MALIBU IS CURRENTLY IN THE SHOP AND THEY CALLED AND OF COURSE, THEY DON'T KNOW WHAT THE PROBLEM IS. IN ADDITION TO THE ELECTRICAL FAILURE, THE "SERVICE FRONT CAMERA" LIGHT WILL DISPLAY AND AFTER THE LAST EVENT, I SELECTED THE VOLTAGE READING ON THE ELECTRONIC DASHBOARD PANEL AND WATCHED THE VOLTAGE METER FLUCTUATE FROM 13.6 TO 14.1 AS I WAS DRIVING, AND IT REMAINED AT 14.9 WHILE STATIONARY. THIS PROBLEM IS EXTREMELY DANGEROUS AND I PRAY THAT NO DRIVER GETS HURT BEFORE CHEVROLET TAKES ACTION TO FIGURE THIS PROBLEM OUT. I HAD NO IDEA THAT SO MANY OTHER 2013 VEHICLES WERE SIMILARLY AFFECTED. I AM GOING TO REPORT THIS ISSUE TO GENERAL MOTORS AND I HOPE OTHERS CONTINUES TO DO THE SAME.
HEAT BLOWER STOP WORKING. TOOK TO DEALER AND FOUND OUT THE WIRING HARNEST FOR THE HEATER BLOWER WAS MELTED IT HAD BEEB RECEIVING TOO MUCH POWER THE SOURCE IS UNKNOW. THIS COULD HAVE CAUGHT FIRE.
WHILE DRIVING THE CAR INFORMED ME THAT I HAD AN ACCIDENT AND ONSTAR CALLED. THIS HAPPENED SEVERAL TIMES. IN ORDER TO STOP THE FLASHERS I WOULD HAVE TO PULL OVER AND RESTART THE CAR. I INFORMED THE DEALER AND THEY HAVE BEEN TESTING , CALLING GM, AND REPAIRING FOR 6WEEKS. THEY KEEP TELLING ME IT IS FIXED AND I DRIVE IT AND THE SAME THING HAPPENS AGAIN. THIS HAS BEEN GOING ON FOR 6 WEEKS NOW AND IT'S STILL AT THE DEALER. THEY CAN NOT SEEM TO FIND THE ISSUE. THE LAST TIME I TRIED TO DRIVE THE CAR IN ADDITION TO TO THE OTHER PROBLEMS THE CAR WOULD STOP ALL TOGETHER. THIS SEEMS LIKE A MAJOR SAFTEY ISSUE TO ME.

PERIODICALLY DRIVERS SIDE ONLY WORKS ON DEFROST OR FEET ONLY SETTINGS. HAVE TO HAVE HEAT TO FOOT SETTING AND STUFF BLANKET UNDER PASSENGER SIDE DASH TO HEAT CAR IN WINTER. I CANNOT DEFROST ENTIRE WINDOW.

MY MALIBU'S DASHBOARD WILL GO OUT WHILE DRIVING THE VEHICLE. NO SPEED, ODOMETER READINGS, FUEL, TEMPERATURE OR DIGITAL SPEED DISPLAY WORKS. IT WILL COME ON AND WORK FINE BUT WILL RANDOMLY GO OUT WHILE DRIVING. SOMETIMES DURING START UP THE DASH WILL NOT EVEN START UP WITH THE CAR. THIS IS A PROBLEM THAT CUSTOMERS SHOULD NOT BE LIABLE TO FIX. I HAVE NO AFTERMARKET PARTS ON THIS CAR AND IT HAS NEVER BEEN INVOLVED IN A CRASH.
THIS 2013 CHEVY MALIBU IS LIKE A METAL DEATH TRAP, IN MY OPINION. I'M NOTICING A LOT MORE ISSUES WITH THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM. SOMETIMES WHEN I DO THAT THOUGH, MY CAR WON'T TURN BACK ON. BUT, WHEN IT DOES WORK, IT'S JUST A TEMPORARY FIX AND WILL START AGAIN ONCE I START TO DRIVE. THIS WILL HAPPEN MULTIPLE TIMES A DAY. I WILL TRY TO TURN, AND MY STEERING WHEEL WILL JUST LOCK WHERE I CANNOT CONTROL MY CAR AS I'M DRIVING. SEVERAL TIMES THIS HAS ALMOST CAUSED AN ACCIDENT. AFTER DOING RESEARCH ON THE ISSUE, I FOUND A RECALL ON 2013 CHEVY MALIBU ECO CARS FOR LOSS OF BATTERY CHARGE DUE TO A MALFUNCTIONING GCM. THE RECALL DESCRIBES EXACTLY WHAT WAS GOING ON WITH MY VEHICLE DOWN TO THE MALFUNCTION INDICATOR LIGHT COMING ON, WHICH IT DID. HOWEVER, AFTER SEARCHING FOR RECALLS USING MY VIN THERE WEREN'T ANY OPEN. I CHECKED WITH THE DEALERSHIP THAT I BOUGHT THE CAR FROM AND THAT RECALL HAD NOT BEEN SERVICED ON MY VEHICLE. I FEEL THAT THAT RECALL SHOULD BE OPEN ON MY VEHICLE.

THE REPAIR WAS COMPLETED, BUT THE DEALER DISCOVERED THAT THE GENERATOR CONTROL MODULE WAS ALSO FAULTY. IN ADDITION, THE DEALER STATED THAT A REPAIR WAS PERFORMED ON THE VEHICLE IN 2012. THE CONTACT DISCOVERED PRODUCT SAFETY NUMBER: 12238, WHICH PROVIDED COVERAGE FOR THE REPLACEMENT OF THE GENERATOR; HOWEVER, THE MANUFACTURER STATED THAT IT HAD EXPIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 58,812.

MY CHEVY MALIBU HAS BEEN EXPERIENCING INTERMITTENT ELECTRICAL ISSUES. IT STARTED AFTER MY CAR DIED AT THE END OF AN HOUR'S DRIVE. I THOUGHT I WAS EXPERIENCING BATTERY ISSUES BUT PERSISTED MONTHS WITH NO OTHER ISSUES. IT HAPPENED AGAIN 4 MONTHS LATER (DECEMBER 3RD), AND THE FOLLOWING DAY THE CAR COMPLETELY DIED ON ME WHILE TRAVELING HIGHWAY SPEEDS DURING A SNOW STORM. MY POWER STEERING WAS BARELY OPERABLE, WHILE MY LIGHTS HEAT AND RADIO COMPLETELY STOPPED FUNCTIONING. THE DEALERSHIPS SEEM TO BE CLULESS ABOUT THE ISSUE. THE ONE I VISITED SEEMED ADAMANT THAT THE ISSUE COULD BE STEMMING FROM MY KEY! CHEVY HAS BEEN HELPFUL ONLY IN THE SENSE THAT THEY GAVE ME A $100 CREDIT TO GET THE CAR DIAGNOSED (WHICH HASN'T GIVEN ANY RESULTS). I'VE SEEN SOME OF THE HORROR STORIES FROM THIS ISSUE AND AM TERRIFIED TO DRIVE THIS VEHICLE AGAIN UNTIL SOMETHING IS FIXED.

SHORTLY AFTER I PURCHASE MY VEHICLE IT BEGAN TO STALL OR SHUT DOWN. FIRST INCIDENT, I PULLED UP AT SCHOOL AND INTO A PARKING SPOT AND THE CAR SHUT DOWN, NOT ALLOWING ME TO TURN THE KEY INTO THE OFF POSITION IN THE IGNITION. I WAS ABLE TO PUT THE GEAR IN PARK, CALLED THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY HAD IT TOWED BECAUSE IT WOULD NOT COME ON. THEY SENT IT TO THE CHEVY DEALERSHIP AND WAS TOLD THEY WERE UNABLE TO FIND THE PROBLEM. I RECEIVED MY CAR BACK 2 WEEKS LATER AND I DROVE OVER 200 MILES OUT OF TOWN. ONCE I MADE IT TO WHERE I WAS GOING A SLOWED DOWN TO TURN A CORNER AND THE STEERING WHEEL LOCKED UP LIKE IT LOST POWER. I WAS ABLE TO MAKE IT TO MY DESTINATION AND ONCE THERE THE CAR SHUT DOWN AGAIN. I CALLED THE DEALERSHIP AND HE TOLD TO ME PUSH THE BUTTON TO PUSH THE SEAT BACK AND ONCE ALL THE WAY BACK, TO THEN PUSH THE BUTTON THE MOVE THE SEAT FORWARD. ONCE I BEGAN TO PUSH THE SEAT FORWARD THE WHOLE CAR POWERED BACK ON. IT HAS BEEN DOING THIS ON AND OFF SINCE THE PURCHASE OF THE VEHICLE IN 2015. IT HAS BEEN SENT TO THE CHEVY DEALERSHIP AND THEY ARE UNABLE TO FIND WHAT THE PROBLEM IS. THE VEHICLE TO START TO CUT OFF ONTHE REGULAR NOW, WHILE ON THE HIGHWAY AND REGULAR STREETS. WHILE DRIVING THE ENGINE POWER SUDDENLY REDUCED AND A WARNING CAME ON INDICATING REDUCED ENGINE POWER. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO DEALER WHO HAD IT FOR 2 WEEKS AND DROVE AROUND 500 MILES ON CAR AND WERE UNABLE TO REPLICATE ERROR. *TR
KEY FOB IS TOO SENSITIVE, ESPECIALLY ON THE TRUNK BUTTON. KEYS ARE IN MY POCKET, AND IF I BUMP UP AGAINST SOMETHING, THE TRUNK IS OPEN. WHEN YOU ARE IN PUBLIC (SAY A PUBLIC PARK FOR A FAMILY REUNION) AND NEED TO STORE LARGE VALUABLES IN YOUR CAR, WHERE DO YOU STORE THEM? IN THE TRUNK. WELL WHAT HAPPENS IF YOU BUMP SOMETHING AND YOUR TRUNK POPS? THOSE VALUABLES GET STOLEN. THE FOB SHOULD HAVE THE TRUNK BUTTON INSET INTO IT, REQUIRE TO PRESS TWO BUTTONS SIMULTANEOUSLY, OR REQUIRE YOU TO PRESS THE TRUNK BUTTON TWICE FOR THE TRUNK TO OPEN. I BELIEVE THAT THIS IS A CHEVROLET DESIGN ERROR. THE DAY THAT I BOUGHT MY PREVIOUS CHEVY CAR (2012 CAMARO) THIS SAME THING HAPPENED. JUST SO HAPPENED THERE WASN'T ANYTHING IN MY TRUNK WITH THE CAMARO. BUT IT DID RAIN AND MY TRUNK WAS FULL OF WATER THE MORNING. THIS SEEMS LIKE AN EASY FIX, AND I AM SURE THAT I'M NOT THE ONLY PERSON WITH THIS PROBLEM. I PURCHASED THIS VEHICLE ON FEBRUARY 7, 2013. BEFORE DRIVING OFF OF THE DEALER LOT, WE ASKED WHY AN AIRBAG LIGHT WAS FLASHING. THE DEALERSHIP ASSURED US IT WAS FINE AND DID NOT LOOK INTO IT. THEY LET US DRIVE THE CAR HOME. AFTER ABOUT A WEEK OF THE LIGHT CONTINUING TO FLASH AND THE CAR NOT RECOGNIZING THAT MY HUSBAND WAS IN THE PASSENGER SEAT AND TURNING THE PASSENGER AIRBAG ON, WE DECIDED TO TAKE IT INTO THE LOCAL DEALERSHIP TO GET IT CHECKED OUT. UPON TAKING IT THERE, WE LEARNED THAT THERE HAD BEEN AN ACTIVE RECALL ON MY CAR WITH THE AIRBAG POTENTIALLY BEING ABLE TO DEPLOY IF THE CAR BRAKED TOO HARD. SO WE FOUND OUT WE WERE SOLD THE CAR WITH AN ACTIVE RECALL AND IT WAS NOT FIXED BEFORE PURCHASE. AFTER THIS FIRST INCIDENT ON THE DAY I BOUGHT IT, THERE HAS BEEN NOTHING BUT PROBLEMS. THE GCM RECALLED, THE WIRING HARNESS RECALLED, BOTH WHICH COULD START A FIRE, I HAVE STEADILY LOST GAS MILEAGE AND NOW AVERAGE ONLY 26 MPG, IF I'M LUCKY, NOT THE 37-40 ADVERSTISED, THERE IS A BUZZING NOISE WHEN TRYING TO GO IN AND OUT OF ECO MODE, WHICH THE DEALERSHIP ASSURED US WAS "PROBABLY NORMAL", AND NOW THERE IS SOME KIND OF SMOKE COMING OUT OF THE VENTS AND MOISTURE ALL OVER THE DRIVER SIDE FLOOR MAT. WE HAVE ALSO RECENTLY FOUND OUT THAT THIS MODEL WAS DISCONTINUED AFTER ONLY ONE YEAR. IN SPITE OF THIS, CHEVY WILL NOT DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT, BUT OFFER TO HELP US TRADE IT IN, AND EVEN THEN THEY WOULD NOT GIVE US WHAT THE CAR IS "WORTH". IN MY OPINION, IF CHEVY KNOWS THEY DID SOMETHING WRONG, THEY NEED TO TAKE CARE OF THEIR CUSTOMERS WHO BOUGHT THE WORTHLESS CARS TO BEGIN WITH. I AM A COMPLETELY DISSATISFIED CUSTOMER, YET THEY DON'T SEEM TO CARE, SO THEY HAVE NOW LOST NOT JUST ME AND MY HUSBAND AS CUSTOMERS, BUT ALSO FAMILY AND FRIENDS THAT HAVE HEARD OF OUR TERRIBLE AND UNSAFE EXPERIENCE. *JS
ON MAY 9, 2014, MY CAR FAILED TO START AND THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. I CALLED GM EMERGENCY VEHICLE ASSISTANCE TO JUMP START MY CAR AND DROVE TO THE DON MEALEY CHEVROLET IN CLERMONT FLORIDA, WHERE MY CAR HAS BEEN FOR 22 DAYS. DURING THIS TIME I HAVE QUESTIONED WHY A PART FOR RELATIVELY NEW CAR IS NOT AVAILABLE. I WAS NOT GIVEN A VALID REASON BY THE DEALERSHIP. I WENT ON LINE AND DISCOVERED THERE MAY HAVE BEEN A RECALL FOR MY CAR LAST YEAR. I WAS NEVER ADVISED ABOUT THIS RECALL EVEN THOUGH THE BAD PART (GENERATOR CONTROL MODULE) CAN CAUSE A FIRE IN THE TRUNK OR ENGINE STALLING. I AM VERY FRUSTRATED AND MORE IMPORTANT HAVE NO FAITH IN MY 2013 MALIBU ECO OR IN GENERAL MOTOR OR MY DEALERSHIP. PLEASE ADVISE MY RIGHTS.
TURNED THE CAR ON HEAT CAME ON FULL BLAST FAN AND TEMP GAGE WERE BOTH IN OFF POSITION. IT DID THIS 3 TIMES BEFORE I COULD GET IT INTO THE SHOP A WEEK LATER. THIS CAR ALARM ALSO TURNS ITSELF ON AFTER DRIVING IN THE RAIN. WHEN I STARTED THE CAR THE FAN AND THE HEATER CAME ON FULL BLAST. WITHIN SECONDS IT WAS VERY HOT IN THE CAR. THE FAN AND THE HEATER WERE TURNED OFF AT THE TIME BUT WERE LIT LIKE THEY WERE ON. SINCE APRIL THIS HAS HAPPEN 3 TIMES. I WOULD START THE CAR AND WITH EVERYTHING TURNED OUT, THE HEATER COMES ON FULL BLAST. THE FIRST TIME, IT SCARED ME. THE CONTACT RECEIVED NOTIFICATION OF NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: 13V173000 (ELECTRICAL SYSTEM) AND TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER TO HAVE THE VEHICLE SERVICED. SEVERAL WEEKS AFTER THE REPAIRS, THE CONTACT HEARD AN ABNORMAL CRACKLING NOISE FROM TH TRUNK AREA. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK TO THE DEALER FOR INSPECTION WHERE THEY STATED THAT THE GENERATOR CONTROL MODULE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 3,578.
