The headlights will repeatedly stop working. I got both headlight bulbs replaced and two months later the passenger side low beam light was flickering. it would sometimes come back on if a bump in the road was hit or if it was tapped then it went out completely. This is very costly and unsafe to be driving at night with. It is most likely a problem with the headlight assembly. I have had the vehicle inspected multiple times and there was not anything reported to me. I can not afford to keep spending hundreds of dollars over and over again on the same issue. This is a continuous issue that I have seen in many other Chevy malibus and this needs to be fixed immediately.
The issue is that there are times when the brake lights kick on when I’m not braking and they stay on and when I brake they turn off. I’m at risk and so are the people who drive in back of me. The lights kick on and they don’t know when I’m actively braking. I took it to the Merle stone a year ago now and they “fixed it” but it still occurred. No warning lamps/lights. It was my moms car before it became mine and she’s told me that when she drove it, it was already happening before it was gifted to me so I can’t pinpoint exactly when it started happening. I’ve searched the internet and I’ve came upon stories of other people with this same make and model have the same issue. I currently don’t that the invoice of when they “fixed” the issue but I could always contact the Merle stone and get a copy emailed (hopefully) if needed.
My 3rd brake light works intermittently. I have bought my car just over a year ago from a pre-owned dealership.
The component that has malfunctioned or failed is the pigtail for the low beam headlight on the driver side. The safety issue is that I am driving with one headlight reducing the visibility of the road. The problem has been reproduced because this is the second time that I had to change the headlights. The vehicle was not inspected by the manufacturer, police, or Insurance representative because the price would have been more than $300. There are no warning lamps or messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to failure. It occurred two years ago. And once again this year.

THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED HOWEVER, THE FAILURE PERSISTED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT INFORMED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 100,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 CHEVROLET MALIBU. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE OPERATING THE VEHICLE, THE REAR BRAKE LIGHT REMAINED ILLUMINATED. ADDITIONALLY, WHILE DRIVING AND WHILE DEPRESSING THE BRAKE PEDAL, THE REAR BRAKE LIGHTS WOULD FAIL TO ILLUMINATE AS NEEDED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO SPITZER CHEVROLET (33 E AURORA RD, NORTHFIELD, OH 44067) WHO ATTACHED THE WIRING HARNESS TO THE BCM WITH A SPACER AND APPLIED DI-ELECTRIC LUBRICANT TO THE BCM AND HARNESS CONNECTOR HOWEVER, THE FAILURE PERSISTED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED FOR THE SAME FAILURE SEVERAL TIMES. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 46,281.

MY LIGHTS KEEP GOING OUT. AS OF NOW I DONT HAVE ANY HEADLIGHTS. AND I KEEP HAVING TRANSMISSION KIND OF ISSUES.
MY HEADLIGHT WENT OUT, I CHANGED IT, AND IT WENT OUT AGAIN IMMEDIATELY. I LOOKED AT THE WIRING, AND IT HAD MELTED THE CONNECTORS. I REPLACED THE PIGTAIL WIRING PART, AND IT CONTINUES TO GO OUT AS SOON AS I PUT A NEW HEADLIGHT IN. *TR
WITHIN A YEAR I HAVE HAD TO HAVE THE HEADLIGHT BULBS IN MY 2010 CHEVI MALIBU REPLACED 7 TIMES. THAT IS INSANE! IT IS TIME CONSUMING, EXPENSIVE AND UNEXCEPTIONAL. THE REPLACEMENT IS NO EASY FIX AS THE BUMPER AND WHEEL COVER HAVE TO BE REMOVED TO GET ACCESS. THIS IS EXTREMELY FRUSTRATING AND NEEDS A RECALL TO FIX THIS ONCE FOR ALL.

I TOOK IT APART AND FOUND THAT THE PLASTIC CONNECTOR WAS BROKEN AND SHORTED OUT, SO I ORDERED A NEW WIRING HARNESS THAT GOES FROM THE GROUND WIRE SPLIT TO THE HEADLIGHT ASSEMBLY, PUT IT TOGETHER AND IT WORKED FINE FOR 2 DAYS AND WENT OUT AGAIN. I TOOK THE FRONT END OFF AGIAN AND UNPLUGGED THE BULB AND PLUGGED IT BACK IN AND IT WORKS FINE AGAIN. I HAVE CHECKED ALL THE WIRES AND THE GROUND SCREW AND CAN'T FIND A PROBLEM. THIS CONTINUES TO HAPPEN. I HAVE ALSO LOOKED THIS UP AND A LARGE NUMBER OF PEOPLE ARE HAVING ISSUES WITH THIS FROM 2009-2012 CHEVY MALIBU.

THE PASSENGER SIDE LOW BEAM LIGHT STOPS WORKING APPROXIMATELY EVERY 6-8 WEEKS. I HAVE OWNED THE CAR FOR 6 MONTHS AND HAVE REPLACED THE SAME BULB 4 TIMES. I KNOW I AM NOT ALONE AS THE INTERNET FORUMS ARE FILLED WITH OTHER MALIBU OWNERS REPORTING THE SAME ISSUE.
PASSENGER LOW BEAM HEADLIGHT WAS REPLACED 4 TIMES. UPON REMOVAL OF THE 4TH HEADLIGHT I NOTICED THE WIRING HARNESS WAS MELTED. I REPLACED THE WIRING HARNESS WITH A NEW ONE AND NOW THE LOW BEAM DOES NOT WORK AT ALL. I JUST RECEIVED A TICKET LAST NIGHT FROM THE POLICE. A FIX IT TICKET...AND NOW I DON'T KNOW HOW I AM GOING TO FIX THIS.
LOW BEAM HEADLIGHTS COMES ON AND OFF. WHILE ATTEMPTING TO DRIVE AT NIGHT THE DRIVER SIDE LIGHT WOULD NOT COME ON. THE NEXT MORNING IT CAME ON. A FEW DAYS LATER THE PASSENGER SIDE LIGHT WOULD NOT COME ON. NOW BOTH LIGHTS WON'T COME ON. I AM ONLY DRIVE DURING DAYLIGHT HOURS UNTIL THEY ARE REPLACED.

MY READING HAS BROUGHT ME TO THE CONCLUSION THAT IN 2008-2012 CHEVY MALIBUS, THE DAYTIME RUNNING LIGHTS ARE PULLING VOLTAGE FROM THE LOW BEAMS WHICH IS INCREASING THE AMPERAGE IN THE LOW BEAMS WHICH IS CAUSING OVERHEATING AND THEREFORE THE BULBS AND CONNECTORS TO GO OUT REPEATEDLY.

THE HIGH-MOUNT BRAKE LIGHT WILL LIGHT (AND STAY LIT) WITHOUT THE BRAKE BEING DEPRESSED. WHEN THE BRAKE IS DEPRESSED USING NORMAL FORCE TO SLOW THE CAR, THE LIGHT WILL GO OFF. WHEN THE BRAKE IS DEPRESSED FURTHER AS IF TO STOP THE VEHICLE, THE LIGHT COMES BACK ON. THIS BEHAVIOR IS INTERMITTENT.
I HAD TO REPLACE THE WIRING HARNESS FOR THE HEADLIGHT UNIT DUE TO THE LOW BEAM CONNECTOR MELTING AND NOW ONLY 3 MONTHS LATER, BOTH LOW BEAM CONNECTORS HAVE MELTED LEAVING ME WITH NO HEADLIGHTS. THIS IS A VERY COMMON PROBLEM ON THESE CARS AND A HUGE SAFETY ISSUE. BOTH TIMES THIS HAS HAPPENED, I WAS DRIVING. ONCE ON CITY STREETS AND TWICE ON THE INTERSTATE
BRAKE LIGHTS REMAIN ON WHILE PEDAL'S NOT ACTIVATED, AND TURN OFF WHEN PEDAL IS PRESSED. ESC AND TRACTION ERROR MESSAGES APPEAR WHILE DRIVING, USUALLY WHEN COMING TO A COMPLETE STOP AT ANY GIVEN TIME. THE LIGHTING ISSUE SEEMS TO COINCIDE WITH THE APPEARANCE OF SAID ERROR MESSAGES.

THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 98,000.
I WAS HAVING AN ISSUE WITH MY THIRD BRAKE LIGHT AT FIRST IT WOULD GO ON AN OFF THEN SOMEDAYS NOT WORK AT ALL. IN ORDER FOR MY VEHICLE TO PASS TEXAS INSPECTION IT NEEDS TO WORK ALL THE TIME. I WENT TO THE DEALERSHIP TODAY BECAUSE THERE WAS A RECALL BUT THE RECALL DIDN'T NOT COVER THE REPAIR BECAUSE IT WAS A FAULTY CIRCUIT BOARD IN THE TAIL LIGHT ITSELF THE RECALL COVERED THE BCM. I'VE SEEN ALOT OF COMPLAINTS ABOUT THIS ISSUE THAT I HAD. IT'S A VERY EXPRESSIVE REPAIR ABOUT $640. I WOULD ASSUME SINCE IT'S A SAFETY ISSUE IT SHOULD BE RECALLED AS WELL.

THE MANUFACTURER WAS ALSO NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE CONTACT INDICATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS PREVIOUSLY REPAIRED PER NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 14V252000 (EXTERIOR LIGHTING:BRAKE LIGHTS) IN 2014 FOR THE SAME FAILURE, BUT THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 99,000.
THE BULB ON THE DRIVERS SIDE HAS GONE OUT MULTIPLE TIMES. HAVE HAD TO PAY $150 PLUS BULBS EACH TIME AS YOU HAVE TO TAKE THE BUMPER OFF. EVEN AFTER REPLACING THE BULB THIS TIME IT DIDN'T WORK. MULTIPLE PEOPLE HAVE REPORTED THIS.

WHEN THAT HAPPENS, THE LOW BEAM HEADLIGHTS WILL FAIL TO FUNCTION. I WOULD IMAGINE THAT THE FIX INVOLVES ADDING SOME SORT OF HEAT INSULATION TO THIS ELECTRICAL CENTER TO EITHER PROTECT THE WHOLE UNIT FROM THE HEAT OR TO PREVENT THE CONSISTENT EXPANSION UNDER HIGH TEMPERATURES. DRIVERS SIDE LOW BEAM BULB NEEDS TO BE REPLACED OFTEN. IVE HAD THIS CAR FOR 4 YEARS, SINCE NOVEMEBER 2013, AND IVE CHANGED THE LOW BEAM BULB AT LEAST 6 TIMES. IVE USED DIFFERENT LIGHTBULB MANUFACTURERS. THEREFORE, I BELIEVE ITS NOT THE BULBS ITSELF, BUT RATHER AN ELECTRICAL PROBLEM. ISSUE STARTED 08/27/16 WHILE 19 YEAR OLD WAS DRIVING AT NIGHT. AS THE BRAKE PEDAL IS COMPRESSED THE BRAKE LIGHTS GO OFF. WHILE DRIVING THEY ARE ON. SERVICE TRACTION AND ESC WARNINGS COME ON INTERMITTENTLY. I HAVE CONTACTED CHEVROLET AND HAVE BEEN ADVISED THERE IS NOT AN OPEN RECALL FOR THIS VEHICLE. A CASE HAS BEEN OPENED WITH THE MANUFACTURER. I HAVE BEEN DRIVING THE VEHICLE SEVERAL TIMES AND HAVE ALMOST BEEN REAR ENDED SEVERAL TIMES DUE TO THIS ISSUE. THE VEHICLE IS SCHEDULED FOR INSPECTION AND MAINTENANCE 09/01/16 AT MILLER AND SONS CHEVROLET. THEY HAVE BEEN ADVISED OF THE ISSUE. I HAVE A SUSPICION THIS IS A RECURRING ISSUE ON A PREVIOUS RECALL (14V252000) AFTER SEEING SOME RECENT COMPLAINTS FROM THOSE WHOM HAVE HAD THE ISSUE FIXED THE FIRST TIME. THIS IS THE 5 TIME IN 2 MONTHS I HAVE HAD TO HAVE THIS VEHICLE IN THE SHOP. ONCE FOR INTAKE AND EXHAUST SOLENOID REPLACEMENT. "TAPPING NOISES" THESE ULTIMATELY LED TO A TIMING CHAIN REPLACEMENT OF WHICH GM COVERED 800.00. I HAD TO PAY 600.00. IN ALL I HAVE SPENT OVER 900.00 ON THIS VEHICLE FOR REPAIRS WHICH I FEEL SHOULD HAVE BEEN COVERED UNDER OTHER VEHICLE RECALLS. EITHER FIX THE EXISTING PROBLEMS OR TAKE THE VEHICLE OFF THE MARKET AND BUY BACK.

AFTER RESEARCHING THE "FIX" IN THE RECALL I CHECKED THE ELECTRICAL CONNECTION AT THE BCM. IT DID HAVE DIELECTRIC GEL APPLIED TO THE BDM WHERE THE CABLE CONNECTED SO REPAIR WAS DONE. AFTER REMOVING AND INSERTING THE CABLE SEVERAL TIMES TO REMOVE ANY CORROSION AT THE ELECTRICAL CONNECTION AS DESCRIBED IN THE RECALL, AND PUTTING IT BACK TOGETHER MYSELF, THE PROBLEM HASN'T RETURNED YET. HOWEVER, THE CONDITION OF HAVING BRAKE LIGHTS REVERSED IS EXTREMELY DANGEROUS AND THERE WAS NO INDICATION OF THE PROBLEM, INITIALLY. BEFORE I RE-APPLIED THE FIX I DID DISCOVER THAT THE CRUISE CONTROL WOULDN'T ENGAGE WHEN THE CONDITION WAS PRESENT (IT WAS A FREQUENT CONDITION BUT WASN'T ALWAYS THERE). THERE WERE NO OTHER INDICATIONS THE BRAKE LIGHTS WERE REVERSED OTHER THAN LOOKING AT THE LIGHTS FROM OUTSIDE THE VEHICLE. MY CONCERN IS THAT GM'S FIX MIGHT BE FLAWED AS THE RECALL CONDITION RECURRED ON MY VEHICLE AFTER THE DESIGNATED FIX WAS PERFORMED AT THE GM DEALERSHIP, CAUSING RISK TO US AND OTHER VEHICLE OWNERS.

THE RECALL REPAIR IN 2014 SEEMS TO HAVE BEEN A BAND-AID ON WHAT COULD LEAD TO A SERIOUS ACCIDENT AND LOSS OF A LIFE IF NOT REPAIRED CORRECTLY. IRATE DRIVER BEHIND ME SAID MY BRAKE LIGHTS WERE OUT, BUT THEY WERE ASTONISHED WHEN THE BREAK LIGHTS CAME ON WHILE I WAS OUTSIDE THE CAR. YESTERDAY I SENT AN E-MAIL ABOUT THE TURN SIGNAL INDICATOR ARM MALFUNCTIONING FOR THE RIGHT TURN SIGNAL ON MY 2010 CHEVY MALIBU. IT GOT TO THE POINT YESTERDAY THAT IF I WANTED TO INDICATE A RIGHT TURN I HAD TO CONSTANTLY HOLD UP THE ARM TO GET IT TO SIGNAL. TODAY I TOOK IT IN TO BE REPAIRED AND IT COST ME $218.00. THE MECHANIC TOLD ME THAT HE HAS REPLACED CLOSE TO A HUNDRED OF THESE IN THE LAST FEW YEARS AND THAT IT SEEMS TO BE A COMMON PROBLEM WITH GM PRODUCTS. THE HEADLAMPS PROVIDE POOR VISIBILITY. THE ILLUMINATION OF THE LOW BEAMS IS ONLY ABOUT 15 FEET IN FRONT OF THE VEHICLE. THIS REQUIRES US TO DRIVE WITH THE HIGH BEAMS ON MOST OF THE TIME. HOWEVER, WHEN ONCOMING TRAFFIC ARE COMING, WE SWITCH BACK TO LOW BEAMS. WE HAVE TRIED VARIOUS LIGHT BULBS BUT THAT DIDN'T FIX THE ISSUE. MY HUSBAND HAS PHYSICALLY TRIED TO TILT THE LIGHT BULBS, BUT THAT DOESN'T WORK EITHER. THERE NEEDS TO BE A REDESIGN OF THE HEADLAMPS TO PROVIDE BETTER VISIBILITY. POOR VISIBILITY CAN CAUSE ACCIDENTS. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING 55 MPH, SHE WAS STOPPED BY LAW ENFORCEMENT AND ASKED WHY SHE WAS DEPRESSING THE BRAKES FOR SUCH LONG PERIODS OF TIME. THE CONTACT DETERMINED THAT THE BRAKE LIGHT WAS ILLUMINATING WHEN NOT DEPRESSING THE BRAKES AND WOULD NOT ILLUMINATE WHEN THE BRAKES WERE DEPRESSED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER FOR DIAGNOSIS WHERE THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE BRAKE LIGHT SENSOR WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED HOWEVER, ONE WEEK LATER THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE DEALER REPLACED THE BRAKE SENSOR A SECOND TIME AND THE FAILURE RECURRED THE FOLLOWING DAY. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN FURTHER REPAIRED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 53,000.
THE CRUISE CONTROL IN MY VEHICLE HAS STOPPED WORKING AS OF 8/15/13. ON 8/14/13, THE CRUISE CONTROL STOPPED WORKING BUT THEN ABOUT 20 MINUTES OR SO LATER, IT STARTED WORKING AGAIN. I HAVE TRIED RESETTING THE CRUISE CONTROL BY TURNING THE CONTROL ON AND OFF HOWEVER THIS WAS UNSUCCESSFUL. I HAVE ALSO BEEN EXPERIENCING A PROBLEM WITH MY DASH LIGHTS GOING ON AND OFF. AFTER THE CRUISE CONTROL STOPPED WORKING ON MY MALIBU, I NOTICED THAT THE BRAKE LIGHTS WERE STAYING ON WHILE DRIVING. THE BRAKE LIGHTS ARE ON WHILE DRIVING NORMALLY, THEN WHEN THE BRAKE PEDDLE IS PRESSED LIGHTLY THE LIGHTS TURN OFF. AFTER THE PEDDLE IS DEPRESSED QUITE A BIT (WHILE BRAKING FOR STOPPING OR TO MAKE A SHARP TURN) THE BRAKE LIGHTS WILL TURN BACK ON. AFTER RELEASING THE BRAKES ALL THE WAY, THE LIGHTS WILL TURN OFF AND THEN BACK ON AGAIN A FEW SECONDS LATER. EVERY TIME THE BRAKE LIGHTS TURN ON, THE CRUISE CONTROL STOPS WORKING. *TR

WHILE DRIVING VEHICLE, THE BRAKE LIGHTS WILL ILLUMINATE WITHOUT PRESSING THE BRAKE PEDAL. ONCE THE BRAKE PEDAL IS PRESSED, THE BRAKE LIGHTS GO OUT AND WILL COME BACK ON APPROXIMATELY 5 SECONDS LATER. IN AN EMERGENCY STOP, THE DRIVER BEHIND ME WILL NOT HAVE WARNING THAT THERE IS AN EMERGENCY STOP. ADDITIONALLY, THE CRUISE CONTROL WILL TURN OFF AS THE SYSTEM BELIEVES THE BRAKES ARE BEING APPLIED WHEN THEY ARE NOT. THIS WILL HAPPEN WITHOUT WARNING WHILE DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY. *TR

THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 24,000 AND THE APPROXIMATE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 26,000.
