ELECTRICAL SYSTEM:WIRING

General Motors LLC (GM) is recalling certain model year 2004-2012 Chevrolet Malibu vehicles manufactured May 16, 2003, through October 11, 2012, 2004-2007 Malibu Maxx vehicles manufactured June 25, 2003, through April 5, 2007, 2005-2010 Pontiac G6 vehicles manufactured May 26, 2004, through January 4, 2010, and 2007-2010 Saturn Aura vehicles manufactured April 24, 2006, through May 26, 2009. In the affected vehicles, increased resistance in the Body Control Module (BCM) connection may result in voltage fluctuations in the Brake Apply Sensor (BAS) circuit. These fluctuations can cause one or more of these conditions: the brake lights to illuminate without the brake pedal being pushed; the brake lights to not illuminate when the pedal is pushed; difficulty disengaging the cruise control; moving the gear shifter out of the 'PARK' position without pushing the brake; and disablement of crash avoidance features such as traction control, electronic stability control, and panic braking assist features.

Fix: GM will notify owners, and dealers will attach the wiring harness to the BCM with a spacer, apply dielectric lubricant to both the BCM and harness connector and the BAS and harness connector, and will relearn the brake pedal home position, free of charge. The manufacturer distributed an Interim letter to customers on July 14, 2014. The recall began on August 18, 2014. Owners may contact General Motors customer service at 1-800-222-1020 (Chevrolet), 1-800-762-2737 (Pontiac), 1-800-553-6000 (Saturn). GM's number for this recall is 13036.

I am financing a 2007 chevy malibu from r n r car co on 411 gratiot in mt Clemens has had one problem after the other first the brakes went fix I told them there was a sway problem up front wanted it fixed before I took it off the lot they did not I could’ve been seriously hurt the sway bar tie rod n control arm went in the front of the car dealership said would help with half the bill didn’t help fixed now my car wants to shut down and hesitate to go over 45 miles an hour the crankshaft position sensor wire n some button might need to be fixed im on social security seeking4 help from the va to help me get it fixed told dealership abt this wants 100 an hour from me to fix it plz advise thank you monica wheeler

THE IS A MESSAGE THAT COMES ACROSS THE RADIO SCREEN TO SERVICE AIRBAG. IT IS REFERRING TO THE FRONT PASSENGER AIRBAG. WHEN THERE IS A PASSENGER IN THE FRONT SEAT THE AIRBAG ON LIGHT DOES NOT COME ON THE INDICATOR LOCATED ABOVE THE RADIO. IT CONTINUES TO STATE THE AIRBAG IS OFF. ACCORDING TO MY LOCAL DEALERSHIP THE PART REQUIRED TO FIX THE PROBLEM IS DISCONTINUED BY GM AND THERE ARE NO AFTERMARKET PART FOR THIS. THE DEALERSHIP STATED THAT IT IS A MODULE. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 CHEVROLET MALIBU. WHILE DRIVING VARIOUS SPEEDS, THE ANTI-THEFT LOCK SYSTEM MALFUNCTIONED AND THE ANTI-THEFT WARNING INDICATOR ILLUMINATED WITHOUT WARNING. THE FAILURES OCCURRED ON MORE THAN ONE OCCASION UPON STARTING THE VEHICLE AND WHILE DRIVING VARIOUS SPEEDS. AS A RESULT OF THE FAILURES, THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER GAUGES STOPPED WORKING AND THE VEHICLE STALLED. ADDITIONALLY, ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS, THE IGNITION WOULD NOT START AND THE ANTI-THEFT LOCK WARNING INDICATOR ILLUMINATED. IT WAS UNKNOWN AS TO WHETHER OR NOT THE INSTRUMENT PANEL BECAME COMPLETELY INOPERATIVE. WHILE DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY USING THE CRUISE CONTROL, THE CRUISE CONTROL SUDDENLY WENT OFF AND THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. I TOOK IT TO THE MECHANIC AND HE SAID THE TRANSMISSION CYLINDER WAS OFF, I BOUGHT THE CAR USED AND RESEARCHED RECALLS ON THIS CAR THROUGH THE SAFECAR.COM WEBSITE AND SAW A TRANSMISSION RELATED RECALL (RECALL NUMBER 14152). I CALLED THE ASSOCIATED GM RECALL CENTER TOLD THEM MY ISSUE AND GAVE THEM THE RECALL NUMBER. THE REPRESENTATIVE PULLED UP THE RECALL DESCRIPTION FOR RECALL NUMBER 14152 AND THE CONSEQUENCES LISTED IN THE GM DIRECTORY WERE NOT THE SAME LANGUAGE AS THE CONSEQUENCES ON SAFECAR.GOV. SHE COULDN'T EXPLAIN WHY THE DESCRIPTION WAS NOT THE SAME IN THE GM DIRECTORY AS THE GOVERNMENT SAFECAR WEBSITE AND I FOUND THAT DISTURBING. SO THAT IS MY FIRST COMPLAINT--THE GM SYSTEM AND NATIONAL WEBSITE ARE NOT IN ACCORDANCE. SECONDLY, MY CRUISE CONTROL STOPPED WORKING SUDDENLY AND THE TRANSMISSION CYLINDER IN MY CAR IS OFF, UNDER MY VIN THE CAR HAD THE TRANSMISSION RECALL FIXED IN 2015 BY THE PREVIOUS OWNER. 3 YEARS LATER AND THERE IS ANOTHER PROBLEM WITH THE TRANSMISSION. I WOULD LIKE TO SUBMIT THAT IF THIS IS A PROBLEM FOR MULTIPLE PEOPLE A TRANSMISSION RECALL BE DONE ON THE "FIX" AND THAT COST OF FIXUPS BE RESTITUTED BY GM. THE VEHICLE WAS IN MOTION, CITY STREET, TURNING. THE STEERING WHEEL WPULD TURN THE OPPOSITE WAY THAT I HAD TO TURN. THE STEERING WHEEL WOULD ALSO LOCK IN THE OPPOSITE DIRECTION WHICH ALMOST CAUSED ME TO CRASH INTO THE WALL. WHEN I PULLED OFF TO THE SIDE TGE STEERING WHEEL WOULD SHAKE AND TURN BY ITSELF. I JUST DISCOVERED THAT THERE IS 9 RECALL NOTICES FROM 06/27/2014 TO 02/23/2015. THE DEALERSHIP HAS NOT OWNED UP TO THESE RECALLS. 2007 CHEVY MALIBU ELECTRICAL HELL MY CAR WAS COMPLETELY FINE ASIDE FROM THE POWER STEERING RECALL THAT WAS FIXED ON IT. THEN ABOUT 4 MONTHS LATER MY CAR CRANKS BUT DOESN'T START! I WAS DRIVING IT 20 MINS PRIOR AND THEN THIS HAPPENS. THE RADIO,THE LIGHTS, THE HORN AND THE DINGING WITH THE DOOR OPEN, ALL STILL WORKED. UNSUCCESSFULLY TRYING TO START IT I LEFT IT ALONE TO GET TOWED. 5 DAYS LATER I RECEIVED MY CAR BACK SAYING IT STARTED JUST FINE THEY CAN'T DETECT WHAT'S WRONG WITH IT, BECAUSE THEY COULDN'T READ THE CODE IT GAVE OUT, AND TO KEEP NOTES OF WEIRD THINGS TO BRING IT BACK IN. IN DOING SO MY CAR WAS FINE FOR A MONTH AND A HALF, THEY'RE WERE NO ISSUES. THE NEXT TIME MY CAR DID THE CRANK AND NO START I NOTICED THE SECURITY ICON LIGHTING UP, AS WELL AS THE FACT THAT I LEFT MY RADIO AND AIR ON. IT'S LATE AT NIGHT, I'M ALONE AND MY CAR IS FAILING ME, AFTER TRYING FOR 15 MINUTES I GOT MY CAR TO START. THE THIRD TIME IS THE WORST TIME, BY THIS POINT IT'S ABOUT 2 WEEKS AFTER THE 2ND INCIDENT. SAME SCENARIO, JUST DROVE IT 20 MINS PRIOR AND IT WAS FINE, THEN ANOTHER CRANK NO START FOR HOURS. EVEN TRIED TO LEAVE MY KEY IN TO IGNITION. AFTER HOURS I GOT IT TO START AND MAKING IT HOME THE CAR SLOWED DOWN AND CAME TO A COMPLETE HALT IN THE MIDDLE OF AN EXTREMELY BUSY STREET, PUTTING ON MY BRAKE LIGHTS I AVOIDED GETTING REAR ENDED. I TOOK THE KEY OUT AND RESTARTED THE CAR AND IT STARTED SOMEHOW. AFTER GETTING IT HOME I HAVEN'T DRIVEN IT SINCE AND A NUMBER OF MORE ISSUES STARTED HAPPENING. MY LOCKS HAVE NOW STARTED TO MAKE AN OBNOXIOUS BUZZING NOISE WHEN GETTING UNLOCKED, THE SERVICE AIR BAG NOTIFICATION WILL LIGHT-UP ON THE DASH AND DISAPPEAR QUICKLY, ALL ICONS LIGHT UP ON DASHBOARD , SECURITY ICON FLASHES, CHECK ENGINE LIGHT IS ON, CAR WILL NOT START ON CRANK, RADIO FADES OUT AND COMES BACK ON, HORN IS A FAINT NOISE. READING SIMILAR COMPLAINTS THIS IS AN OUTRAGE.

I AM THE SECOND OWNER OF MY 2007 CHEVY MALIBU AND THE POWER STEERING HAS FAILED, WHEN I WAS GOING 70+ MPH ON THE FREEWAY TODAY. I HAD TAKEN THE CAR IN SEVRAL MONTHS AGO TO DEALER AND THEY SAID IT COULD NO LONGER BE FIXED DUE TO THE AMOUNT OF MILES. I DIDN'T OWN THE VEHICLE WHEN GM WAS FIXING THIS PROBLEM. THIS IS A SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE. I DRIVE AN HOUR ON FREEWAY TO WORK AND NO ONE IS HELPING ME. I COULD NOT MOVE MY STEERING WHEEL TO EVEN PULL OFF THE FREEWAY. I SLOWED DOWN TO WHEN THERE WAS A CURVE AND I WAS ABLE TO STOP THE CAR ON THE SIDE OF THE FREEWAY.

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 CHEVROLET MALIBU. THE CONTACT RECEIVED NOTIFICATION OF NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 14V400000 (ELECTRICAL SYSTEM). PRIOR TO RECEIPT OF THE RECALL, THE CONTACT EXPERIENCED A FAILURE. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 40 MPH, THE IGNITION SHUT DOWN WITHOUT WARNING AND THE VEHICLE CRASHED INTO A POLE. THE AIR BAGS FAILED TO DEPLOY. A POLICE REPORT WAS NOT FILED. THERE WAS ONE INJURY THAT REQUIRED MEDICAL ATTENTION. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A MECHANIC WHO DIAGNOSED THAT THE IGNITION WAS FAULTY. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED BY A MECHANIC; HOWEVER, THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 137,000.

I TOOK IT TO SMITH CHEVROLET IN GALLIPOLIS OHIO AND THEY RESET THE COMPUTER, THIS DID NOT HELP. NOW THEY TELL ME THEY NEED TO REPLACE MODULE 02560 PART # 25861370 AND SENSOR 04625 PART # 13597430 AT A COST OF ABOUT $410.00. I FILL THEY DID A PATCH JOB LAST YEAR AND NOW WANT ME TO PAY TO FIX IT. IF I PULL THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM AND PLUG IT IN AND OUT A FEW TIMES EVERYTHING WORKS FINE FOR A COUPLE OF WEEKS. I HAVE CONTACTED CHEVROLET AND MY REFERENCE # FROM THEM IS 8-2180763999. JAMES AT PHONE #866-790-5700 EXT 5913683 IS TRYING TO HELP ME. I CAN'T DRIVE AROUND WITH MY BRAKE LIGHTS ON ALL THE TIME, IT IS NOT SAFE. I GOT PULLED OVER BY A STATE TROOPER ONCE LAST YEAR BEFORE IT WAS REPAIRED.

I TOOK MY VEHICLE IN FOR THE BREAK LIGHT BEING ON CONTINUOUSLY WHILE DRIVING. I TOOK THE VEHICLE TO BEARDMORE CHEVROLET IN BELLEVUE NEBRASKA. I BELIEVED IT WAS A RECALL ISSUE (AND STILL DO), BEARDMORE PERFORMED A DIAGNOSTIC EVALUATION AND TOLD ME IT WAS NOT. I TOLD THEM THAT SINCE IT WAS NOT A RECALL ISSUE I WOULD TAKE IT TO MY OWN MECHANIC. HOWEVER WHEN I LEFT BEARDMORE CHEVROLET MY BREAK LIGHTS NO LONGER WORKED AT ALL. THE LIGHTS WOULD "SETTLE DOWN" AFTER LONG ENOUGH, BUT SOME COMBINATION OF LIGHTS ALWAYS REMAINED ON AT THE END OF THE EPISODES, SUCH AS THE TRACTION CONTROL LIGHT, CHECK ENGINE LIGHT, SECURITY LIGHT, AND ABS LIGHT. THE CAR WOULD SEEM TO RETURN TO NORMAL SOMETIMES AFTER BEING RESTARTED. I HAD A CHEVROLET DEALERSHIP CHECK IT OUT IN 5/15/2015 AND THEY FOUND NOTHING. SOMETIMES DURING THESE EPISODES, THE POWER STEERING WOULD ALSO LOSE POWER. THE PROBLEM RETURNED AND I HAD A MECHANIC CHECK IT OUT AND HE PUT IN A NEW IGNITION SWITCH 11/19/15. THE CAR HAS NOT GONE BERSERK SINCE THEN, BUT THE POWER STEERING DOES NOT ALWAYS WORK RELIABLY AND THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON ONCE, BUT WENT OFF. THE COOLANT TEMPERATURE GAUGE HAS FAILED TO WORK TWICE SINCE THEN TOO. THE CRUISE CONTROL ALSO TEMPORARILY STOPPED WORKING.

IN 2012, I WAS HAVING ISSUES WITH THE CRUISE CONTROL DISENGAGING AND REFUSING TO RE-ENGAGE. I NOTICED THAT THE BRAKE LIGHTS WOULD BE LIT WITHOUT THE BRAKES BEING ACTIVATED, AS LONG AS THE VEHICLE WAS NOT IN "PARK" (AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION). THE CHEVROLET DEALER APPLIED DIELECTRIC GREASE TO A CONNECTOR IN NOVEMBER 2012, AND THE PROBLEM WENT AWAY. THE PROBLEM REAPPEARED THIS YEAR (2013), INCLUDING AN INSTANCE WHEN THE BRAKE LIGHTS DID NOT LIGHT WHEN THE BRAKES WERE ACTIVATED! THE DEALER CHARGED ME OVER $250 IN PARTS AND OVER $300 IN LABOR TO REPLACE TWO PARTS. ON MY WAY TO THE DEALER, I SAW ANOTHER MALIBU WITH THE SAME BODY DESIGN WITH THE SAME PROBLEM. THIS IS OBVIOUSLY A DESIGN, PART, OR MANUFACTURING DEFECT, AND I SHOULD NOT HAVE TO PAY TO FIX A FAULTY DESIGN, REPLACE A FAULTY PART, OR DUE TO POOR MANUFACTURING. *TR

THE BRAKE LIGHTS COME ON AND DO NOT SHUT OFF (THIS IS AN INTERMITTENT PROBLEM BUT HAS GRADUALLY WORSENED TO THE POINT WHERE IT IS HAPPENING ALMOST ALL OF THE TIME NOW). ALSO, THE CRUISE CONTROL DOES NOT WORK AND AT TIMES IT IS DIFFICULT SHIFTING OUT OF PARK. WE HAVE BROUGHT THE CAR TO TWO DIFFERENT CHEVY DEALERSHIPS TWICE EACH, AND TO A PRIVATE MECHANIC TWICE (FOR A TOTAL OF 6 SERVICE TRIPS). DESPITE SPENDING SEVERAL HUNDRED DOLLARS, NONE OF THEM HAVE FIXED THE PROBLEM. SOMEONE ALMOST HIT ME FROM BEHIND A COUPLE WEEKS AGO BECAUSE MY BRAKE LIGHTS DID NOT CHANGE - HE FOLLOWED ME TO A GAS STATION AND YELLED AT ME! IT IS SO BAD NOW THAT WE DON'T DARE DRIVE THE CAR FOR SAFETY REASONS, AND CANNOT SELL IT FOR THE SAME REASON. 2007 CHEVROLET MALIBU. CONSUMER WRITES IN REGARDS TO DRIVER DOOR LOCK MALFUNCTION CAUSED BY POOR WIRE CONNECTION AND CONSUMER SEEKS REIMBURSEMENT FOR REPAIRS. *SMD THE CONSUMER STATED WHILE DRIVING, THE TIRE TRACTION LIGHT ILLUMINATED AND HE WAS UNABLE TO TURN IT OFF, AND THEN THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ILLUMINATED. HE WAS ALSO UNABLE TO USE THE SPEED CONTROL SETTING, DURING THAT TIME. WHEN HE ARRIVED HOME, HE WAS UNABLE TO GET OUT OF THE VEHICLE, BECAUSE THE DRIVER DOOR AUTO LOCK WOULDN'T OPERATE PROPERLY. TWO DAYS LATER, WHEN HE PUT THE VEHICLE INTO DRIVE, THE DRIVER SIDE DOOR DIDN'T LOCK AUTOMATICALLY, BUT ALL THE OTHER LOCKS WORKED PROPERLY. THE DEALER INFORMED THE CONSUMER THE HARNESS CAME LOOSE AND IT CAUSED THE WIRING UNDER THE DRIVER'S SEAT TO CHAFF AND EXPOSE THE WIRING WHICH THEN TOUCHED EACH OTHER AND CAUSED THE MALFUNCTION. HE FURTHER ADVISED THAT, AS PART OF THE REPAIR, THE HARNESS AND WIRING WERE MOVED OVER FROM ITS ORIGINAL LOCATION SO THAT THE PROBLEM WOULD NEVER OCCUR AGAIN.

BOTH MY DEALER AND GM CUSTOMER CARE TOLD ME THERE WERE NO ACTIVE RECALLS, AND THAT I JUST NEED TO GET THE PROBLEM FIXED MYSELF AND THEN I COULD REQUEST REIMBURSEMENT AT A FUTURE DATE IF ANY RECALL DID HAPPEN. IT'S DISAPPOINTING THAT A COMPANY AS LARGE AS GM WOULDN'T PROACTIVELY HELP THEIR CUSTOMERS WHEN A KNOWN PROBLEM EXISTS IN A LARGE NUMBER OF VEHICLES. WHEN FILLING UP THE CAR TO FULL WITH GAS. THE GAS GAUGE READS LOW FUEL AND ON E AND THEN THE MAINTENANCE LIGHT COMES ON. SOMETIMES IT WILL BOUNCE BACK UP TO SHOW HOW MUCH GAS IS REMAINING ONLY TO FALL BACK TO LOW FUEL AND E AGAIN. HAD THIS COMPUTER CHECKED AND THEY SAID IT HAD TO DO WITH THE FUEL SENSOR LOCATED IN THE GAS TANK. THE ESTIMATED COST TO FIX THIS WOULD BE AROUND 600. I THINK THIS SHOULD BE THE RESPONSIBILITY OF GM SINCE THEY RECALLED THEIR SUV'S FOR THE SAME PROBLEM. I CAN'T TELL HOW MUCH GAS IS ACTUALLY IN THE CAR AND I DON'T KNOW HOW TO USE THE TRIP FOR THIS. WITH THE LOW MILEAGE ON MY CAR, I THINK IT IS OUTRAGEOUS THAT I SHOULD HAVE TO PUT OUT THAT KIND OF MONEY FOR FAULTY PROBLEMS ON GM PARTS. *TR

I KNOW THAT THIS SAFETY ISSUE DOESN'T RANK UP THERE WITH STICKING GAS PEDALS, ETC., BUT I FEEL IT IS IMPORTANT ENOUGH THAT SOMEONE SHOULD LOOK INTO IT. ACTUALLY, THERE ARE TWO INTERRELATED DESIGN FLAWS WITH THE 'DRIVER INFORMATION CENTER' ON THE 2007 CHEVY MALIBU LS I BOUGHT LAST YEAR. THE DRIVER INFORMATION CENTER ('DIC') IS THE GREEN LED DISPLAY IN THE RADIO THAT NORMALLY DISPLAYS SUCH INFO AS TIME AND TEMPERATURE, ETC., BUT IT IS ALSO USED BY CHEVY TO DISPLAY WARNING MESSAGES. THE TWO PROBLEMS ARE: A). CRITICAL WARNINGS ' IN MY CASE A WARNING MESSAGE TO 'SERVICE AIRBAG' POPPED UP ONE EVENING ON THE DIC ' BUT IT WAS ONLY DISPLAYED ONCE (IT DID NOT APPEAR AGAIN THE NEXT MORNING OR THEREAFTER). SINCE CHEVY CONSIDERED THIS ISSUE IMPORTANT ENOUGH TO SUGGEST THAT I NOT CONTINUE TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE UNTIL THE PROBLEM WAS FIXED, I THINK THAT THEY SHOULD HAVE PROGRAMMED THIS WARNING (OR ANY SAFETY RELATED WARNING) TO STAY ON UNTIL THE PROBLEM IS FIXED. B). THE DIC IS FAR TOO DIM TO SEE CLEARLY DURING MOST DAYLIGHT HOURS (EVEN ON MANY CLOUDY DAYS) AND IS FOR ALL INTENTS AND PURPOSES TOTALLY INVISIBLE IF THE DRIVER IS WEARING SUNGLASSES. JUST A QUICK SEARCH ON THE INTERNET WILL SHOW THAT THIS IS NOT A RECENT OR ISOLATED COMPLAINT'.I SEE COMPLAINTS ABOUT THE DIC BEING TOO DIM GOING BACK TO AT LEAST 2004! WHEN I COMPLAINED TO CHEVY ABOUT THE DIMNESS ISSUE THEY TOLD ME THIS WAS 'NORMAL' (I IN TURN TOLD THEM THAT IT MAY BE 'NORMAL' BUT IT CERTAINLY IS UNACCEPTABLE ' ESPECIALLY GIVEN THAT HAD THE CRITICAL SAFETY WARNING COME ON DURING DAYLIGHT HOURS I PROBABLY WOULD NEVER HAVE EVEN SEEN IT AND WOULD STILL BE DRIVING AROUND WITH AN UNRESOLVED SAFETY ISSUE). *TR
