I USED TO GET A WARNING TO "SERVICE AIRBAGS" ON THE STEREO DISPLAY, AND A CHIME, TYPICALLY WHEN I FIRST STARTED UP THE CAR. THIS STARTED WHEN I WAS LIVING IN SOUTHERN ILLINOIS. I DROVE WITH MY BACKPACK ON THE PASSENGER SEAT, AND OCCASIONALLY THAT SEAT WOULD CHIME FOR PASSENGER TO BUCKLE UP. THE SERVICE AIR BAG MESSAGE WOULD STAY UP FOR ABOUT 5 MILES OF DRIVING, THEN WOULD NOT ILLUMINATE AGAIN. FINALLY CAUGHT IT IN THE ACT, GOT IT TO A DEALERSHIP, WHERE THEY TOLD ME THEIR DIAGNOSTIC CAME UP WITH A PASSENGER SEAT OCCUPANCY SENSOR WAS FAILING/HAD FAILED. THE ONLY REMEDY OFFERED WAS TO CLEAR THE COMPUTER, OR CONSIDER A BRAND NEW PASSENGER SEAT (WHICH AT THAT TIME EXCEEDED THE ESTIMATED BLUE BOOK VALUE). CLEARING THE COMPUTER OF THAT TROUBLE CODE LASTED ABOUT A WEEK. COULDN'T OFFER MORE INFO SUCH AS IF THE AIRBAG WOULDN'T DEPLOY IF NEEDED, OR IF IT WAS LIKE A JACK-IN-THE-BOX AND MIGHT TRIP UNNECESSARILY. THAT WAS ALMOST 5 YEARS AGO, THIS SUMMER IT STOPPED ADVISING ME OF THE NEED FOR SERVICE. I'M NOT SURE IF THE SENSOR FINALLY GAVE OUT, OR IF SOME COMPONENT(S) WERE DAMAGED IN A COLLISION THAT RIPPED OFF THE BUMPER THIS WINTER.

2017 THE AIRBAG LIGHT STOPPED SENSING PASSENGER SIDE AND SERVICE AIRBAG APPEARED ON SCREEN WITH THE DASH LIGHT TOO. REPAIR WORKED TO GET STICKER IN 2017 BUT DID NOT TAKE (NEW SEAT & SENSOR) CAN NOT GET A STICKER THIS YEAR WITH THE LIGHT ON. SPECIALIST IN WIRING SAID THEY SPENT ALOT OF TIME AND CONSULTED DEALERSHIP AND CAN NOT FIND THE PROBLEM. I AM AFRAID TO DRIVE THIS CAR OR HAVE A PASSENGER RIDE WITH ME. HAVE SPENT ABOUT 1500.00 TRYING TO FIX THIS ISSUE. LIGHT IS ON ALL THE TIME WITH SERVICE AIRBAG WARNING FOR PASSENGER SIDE. MECHANISM UNDER PASSENGER SEAT INOPERATIVE FOR AIRBAG
1 YEAR AGO I WAS DRIVING AND I GOT HIT IN THE SIDE. FOR SOME REASON THE AIRBAGS DIDN'T DEPLOY AND I GOT HIT PRETTY HARD BECAUSE THE DRIVER DRIVER SIDE DOORS WERE NOT ABLE TO OPEN. I DROVE HOME WITH AND THEY SAID THAT IT WAS FIXABLE ALTHOUGH IT DIDN'T LOOK LIKE IT. ITS FIXED NOW BUT IVE ALWAYS HAD MY SUSPICION THAT IT IS PART OF THE RECALL. IT WAS MOVING, ON A STREET, ABOUT TO TURN WHEN SHE HIT ME. I DID NOT BRAKE.

I CALLED GM 800-222-1020 TO REPORT THE AIRBAG ON MY 2007 CHEVY MALIBU AIRBAG KEEPS COMING ON AN OFF ON 8/22/15 I CALLED THE 1ST TIME NO ONE CALLED ME I CALLED ON 8/25/15 AND I CALLED TODAY 8/31/15. I WAS TOLD THAT I NEEDED TO PAY FOR THE DIAGNOSES...I DONT THINK THAT IS FAIR WHY WOULD THE AIR BAGS ON A CAR GO OUT????? I WAS TOLD ON THE PHONE THAT I DID NOT HAVE TO PAY NOW THE STORY CHANGES. CHARLES, MISSOURI, WHEN THE DRIVER OF THE CAR IN WHICH I WAS THE ONLY PASSENGER, APPLIED HIS BRAKES TO SLOW DOWN AND SLID INTO THE BACK OF THE CAR IN FRONT OF US, COLLIDING THE FRONT END OF THE MALIBU INTO THE REAR END OF THE MAZDA SEDAN IN FRONT OF US, TWICE IMPACTING THE MAZDA SEDAN, TOTALING THE CHEVROLET MALIBU IN WHICH I WAS THE PASSENGER. AT NO TIME DID ANY AIR BAGS IN THE MALIBU DEPLOY. I SUFFERED A TORN MENISCUS IN MY LEFT KNEE WHICH REMAINS SCARRED AND PERIODICALLY PAINFUL. THE VEHICLE IS USED INFREQUENTLY AND SELDOM WITH A PASSENGER. CURRENT MILEAGE IS 17,000 MILES. THE DEALER CONTACTED THEIR DISTRICT OFFICE ON 2/5/2015 AND HE SAID THAT THE DISTRICT OFFICE TOLD HIM THAT THE CONDITION WAS WITHIN DESIGN PARAMETERS. THE DISTRICT OFFICE CONFIRMED THAT WHEN THE "OFF" LIGHT IS ON THAT THE AIR BAG WILL NOT WORK. THIS IS A SAFETY HAZARD FOR LIGHTWEIGHT ADULTS AND CHILDREN WHO ARE RIDING IN THE PASSENGER SEAT. *JS

THERE SHOULD BE NO REASON MY SEAT BROKE! I KNOW HAVE TO HAVE THE SERVICE STATION IN TOWN LOOK AT IT AND SEE WHAT IF ANYTHING CAN BE DONE!!! I HAVE SEEN OTHER COMPLAINTS ON HERE ALSO FROM OTHER MALIBU OWNERS WHERE THEIR SEATS JUST BROKE ALSO!!!! THIS COULD BE DEADLY!!!! I AM NOT HAPPY AT ALL AND DON'T BELIEVE I WILL EVER PURCHASE ANOTHER CHEVROLET VEHICLE AGAIN IN MY LIFE!!!! I CONTACTED GM ABOUT MY SEAT YESTERDAY AND THE GUY PUT ME ON HOLD CONTACTED THE NEAREST GM SHOP TO ME GOT THE SERVICE MANAGER ON A 3 WAY CALL AND HUNG UP!! I EXPLAINED MY PROBLEM TO HIM AND HE SAID THAT WOULD BE MY DIME.... HE COULD CERTAINLY LOOK AT IT FOR ME BUT TO REPLACE THE SEAT WOULD BE VERY COSTLY TO ME! THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 5 MPH, ANOTHER VEHICLE CRASHED INTO THE FRONT DRIVER'S SIDE OF THE CONTACT'S VEHICLE AND PUSHED THE VEHICLE TO CRASH INTO THE REAR OF ANOTHER VEHICLE. THE AIR BAGS FAILED TO DEPLOY. THE CONTACT SUSTAINED NECK, HIP AND LEG INJURIES. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE VEHICLE WAS DESTROYED AND TOWED TO A BODY SHOP. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 200,000.

ON JUNE 5, 2013 AIR BAG LIGHT CAME ON & I TOOK VEHICLE IN & THEY CHECKED IT. SAID IT WAS OK & NOT TO PUT MY PURSE ON PASSENGER SEAT AS IT WAS SENSING THEIR WAS A PASSENGER & SEAT BELT WAS NOT ON. SO I LEFT & ON JUNE 15, 2013 WAS DRIVING HOME & EXTREMELY HOT AIR STARTED COMING OUT OF VENTS. IT WAS SUMMER & HEAT WAS NOT ON. THE SERVICE AIRBAG LIGHT CAME ON AGAIN. I THOUGHT THE AIR CONDITIONER HAD GONE OUT & WAS BLOWING OUT EXTREMELY HOT AIR FOR SOME REASON. NEVER FELT SUCH HOT AIR IN MY LIFE IT WAS ALMOST GETTING READY TO BURN SOMETHING. MY DASHBOARD WAS EVEN HOT AS FIRE. GOT HOME & TURNED CAR OFF WAS SCARED IT WAS GETTING READY TO BURN.TURNED IT OFF & BACK ON & THE AIRBAG LIGHT WENT OFF. THEN TRIED AIR CONDITIONER & IT WAS WORKING FINE. ON 6-18-2013 TOOK BACK IN TO DEALER & THEY ASSURED ME IT WOULD NOT CATCH FIRE!!! SAID THE NEXT TIME LIGHT CAME ON, BRING IT IN THAT THEY MAY HAVE TO PULL DASHBOARD. TALKED TO CHEV. CUSTOMER SERVICE OFFICE BY CHAT ON INTERNET, TALKED TO A [XXX] & HAVE THAT TRANSCRIPT PRINTED OUT. AIR BAG LIGHT COMES ON AND OFF. PUT GAS IN THE CAR AND THE GAUGE GOES TO EMPTY EVEN THOUGH I HAVE A FULL TANK OF GAS. (REPLACED PART IN THE GAS TANK A COUPLE OF YEARS AGO) ENGINE LIGHT HAS STAYED ON. NEED TO REPLACE 2 SENSORS IN THE ENGINE. LOUD NOISES WHEN I GO OVER ROUGH ROADS. I AM NOT SURE. AFTER THE STEERING WHEEL LINKAGE WAS REPLACED THAT IS WHEN THE NOISE GOT LOUDER. *TR
SEVERAL TIMES WHEN STARTING MY CAR MY SEATBELT LIGHT STAYED ON AND CHIMED. THERE WAS A DISPLAY ON MY RADIO THAT READ, SERVICE AIRBAG. I CHECKED MY MANUAL AND READ THAT THE AIR BAG DOESN'T NEED MAINTENANCE SERVICE AND IF THE LIGHT STAYED ON, SOMETHING WITH THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM MAY BE THE FAULT. IT SUGGESTED THAT SENSOR'S MAY BE AT FAULT IN DIFFERENT AREA'S OF THE CAR AND TO SIT UPRIGHT. I MADE SURE WHEN GETTING BACK IN MY CAR TO SIT AS FAR BACK AS POSSIBLE IN THE SEAT. IT DIDN'T COME ON, BUT HAS REOCCURRED SEVERAL TIMES SINCE THE FIRST TIME. WITH THE RECENT RECALLS, I AM WONDERING IF THIS IS ALSO UNDER THAT RECALL WITH THE IGNITION AND SEATBELTS. *TR
DURING WARM WEATHER, WHEN THERE IS NOBODY IN THE PASSENGER SEAT, THE SERVICE AIR BAG LIGHT WILL COME ON FROM TIME TO TIME. THIS HAPPENS MORE DURING WARMER WEATHER. IT DOES NOT HAPPEN AT ALL IN THE WINTER. I LOOKED INTO THE PROBLEM AND IT APPEARS THAT THE ISSUE IS A FAULTY PASSENGER PRESENCE DETECTOR (I THINK THAT'S WHAT THEY CALLED IT), THE SENSOR THAT TURNS ON THE PASSENGER AIRBAG WHEN THERE IS A PASSENGER. I AM NOT CLEAR ON WHETHER OR NOT THIS MEANS THAT THE DRIVER SIDE AIRBAG IS DISABLED AS WELL. THE FIRST GM DEALER I TOOK MY CAR TO WAS INCOMPETENT AND EXTREMELY RUDE. THEY CHARGED ME LITERALLY $100 TO DO ABSOLUTELY NOTHING. THEY COULD NOT PROVIDE A SERIOUS EXPLANATION AS TO WHY THE AIRBAG LIGHT WAS COMING ON. I CALLED GM CUSTOMER SERVICE, SPOKE TO SOMEONE WHO SENT ME TO ANOTHER DEALER AND OFFERED TO HAVE GM PAY FOR IT. THE SECOND GM DEALER WAS EXTREMELY RUDE AS WELL, TO THE POINT THAT THEY REFUSED TO LET ME HAVE MY CAR BACK UNTIL I PAID THE BILL, EVEN THOUGH GM HAD ARRANGED THE APPOINTMENT AND ARRANGED THE PAYMENT, AND SPECIFICALLY TOLD ME I DID NOT HAVE TO PAY FOR IT. THIS SECOND GM DEALERSHIP INFORMED ME THAT THE PASSENGER PRESENCE SENSOR NEEDED REPLACEMENT AT A COST OF $750. I HAVE AN AFTER-MARKET WARRANTY FROM WYNN'S BUT THEY REFUSED TO PAY FOR IT. I HAVE NOT HAD MY CAR REPAIRED. I WOULD LIKE GM TO FIX THIS PROBLEM WITH A RECALL, IF POSSIBLE, AND ALSO A REFUND FROM THE CLUELESS DEALER. I OWN A 2007 CHEVROLET MALIBU LT, PURCHASED NEW FROM A DEALERSHIP IN SYLVANIA OHIO IN SEPTEMBER OF 2007. SOME TIME IN 2012, THE SERVICE AIR BAG LIGHT BEGAN COMING ON INTERMITTENTLY, BUT WAS NOT CONSISTENTLY A PROBLEM. LATER, THE LIGHT INDICATING IF A PASSENGER WAS PRESENT WOULD EITHER NOT TURN ON WHEN A PASSENGER WAS PRESENT, OR REMAIN ON AFTER A PASSENGER HAD EXITED THE VEHICLE; THIS, TOO, WAS AN INCONSISTENT PROBLEM. UPON VEHICLE INSPECTION BY THE DEALERSHIP, I WAS TOLD THAT THE PASSENGER PRESENCE SENOR WAS "MALFUNCTIONING", WHICH INDICATES THAT THE AIR BAG SYSTEM IS NOT WORKING PROPERLY. WHEN ASKED WHAT MIGHT CAUSE THIS ISSUE, I WAS TOLD THAT "IT JUST HAPPENS SOMETIMES", WHICH SUGGESTS TO ME THERE MAY BE A MANUFACTURING DEFECT WITH THE PART. *TR

THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 36,000.
I RECENTLY LEASED A 2007 MALIBU. THE PASSENGER SIDE AIRBAG DOES NOT WORK WHEN A CUSHION IS PLACED ON IT TO GIVE MY WIFE THE HEIGHT SO SHE CAN SEE. APPARENTLY THE SENSORS ARE SET TO A HEAVY WEIGHT, SO IF THERE ARE SMALL PEOPLE SUCH AS CHILDREN IN THE FRONT PASSENGER SEAT THE AIRBAG SAFETY SYSTEM WILL NOT ACTIVATE IF THEY SIT ON A CUSHION. I SPOKE TO GM CUSTOMER SERVICE PEOPLE IN DETROIT, AND THEY SAID THEY HAD NEVER HEARD OF THIS. IT SEEMS TO ME THAT IN DESIGNING A SAFETY SYSTEM, CONSIDERATION SHOULD BE GIVEN TO SMALLER AND LIGHTER PEOPLE, OR HAVE A FIX AVAILABLE SO THE SYSTEM WORKS. *TR
