FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE:DELIVERY:FUEL PUMP
TI AUTOMOTIVE IS RECALLING CERTAIN FUEL PUMPS, PART NUMBERS TU456 AND TU303, SOLD UNDER VARIOUS BRAND NAMES AS AFTERMARKET AND REPLACEMENT EQUIPMENT FOR THE MOTOR VEHICLES LISTED ABOVE. THE DEFECTIVE FUEL PUMP MAY SEIZE, STOPPING THE FUEL FLOW TO THE ENGINE CREATING A STALLING CONDITION.
Fix: TI AUTOMOTIVE WILL NOTIFY OWNERS OF RECORD AND WILL REPLACE ANY DEFECTIVE FUEL PUMP WITH A NEW OR REWORKED FUEL PUMP FREE OF CHARGE. THE SAFETY RECALL BEGAN ON FEBRUARY 22, 2011. OWNERS MAY CONTACT TI AUTOMOTIVE AT 1-866-867-3759 OR LOG ON TO WWW.RECALLRESPONSE.COM.

Major fuel leak from fuel pump from gas tank area. This occured while driving. Car needed to be towed for repair. Required replacement of electric fuel pump inside the gas tank.
FUEL PUMP PRESSURE SENSOR NOT WORKING VERY EXPENSIVE TO REPLACE
I FILLED MY GAS TANK AND WHEN I STARTED MY CAR, THE FUEL LIGHT LEVEL WENT FROM FULL TO EMPTY WITH THE WARNING LIGHT "LOW FUEL" LIT UP. THEN THE SERVICE ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. AFTER ABOUT 3 TO 4 TIMES OF DRIVING THE VEHICLE, IT SEEMED TO GO BACK TO NORMAL, THAT IS UNTIL THE NEXT TIME AND THE NEXT TIME AND SO ON THAT I FILLED MY GAS TANK. IT IS CURRENTLY DOING THE SAME THING. I DO NOT EVER KNOW HOW MUCH GAS I HAVE IN THE CAR BECAUSE THE NEEDLE GOES UP AND DOWN CONSTANTLY.

ALSO, THE ENGINE INDICATOR ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE FAILED INSPECTION AND THE INDEPENDENT MECHANIC STATED THAT THE DTC INDICATED THAT THE FUEL LEVEL SENSOR NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS TO BE TAKEN FOR AN APPOINTMENT AT NUCAR CHEVROLET (174 N DUPONT HWY, NEW CASTLE, DE 19720, (888) 626-3594). THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE AND STATED THAT THERE WAS NO RECALL FOR THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS NOT AVAILABLE.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 CHEVROLET MALIBU. AFTER THE CONTACT FILLED UP THE VEHICLE WITH FUEL, THE FUEL GAUGE DISPLAYED EMPTY. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE LOW FUEL INDICATOR ILLUMINATED, WHICH INDICATED LOW FUEL AFTER A FILL UP OR RANDOMLY WHILE DRIVING. THE CONTACT MENTIONED THAT THE FAILURE OCCURRED ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC AND TO SUPERIOR CHEVROLET (4770 COVINGTON HWY, DECATUR, GA 30035 (404) 857-2830) WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED WITH A FUEL LEVEL SENSOR CIRCUIT HIGH VOLTAGE MALFUNCTION. THE SENSOR NEEDED REPLACEMENT. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CALLED AND INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT THE WARRANTY HAD EXPIRED. NO FURTHER ASSISTANCE WAS OFFERED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS UNKNOWN.
WITHIN ONE MINUTE AFTER ENGINE STARTUP, AFTER FILLING THE GAS TANK, THE FUEL GAUGE DROPS TO ZERO WITH ATTENDANT ALARM. IT DOES NOT REGISTER GAS UNTIL ABOUT 30 MILES OF DRIVING BEFORE GAS GAUGE SLOWLY RESETS ITSELF. THE FUEL CAP WAS REPLACED WITH A NEW UNIT BUT IT STILL HAS SAME RESULTS. IF THE TANK IS NOT REFILLED TO TOP AT GAS STATION BUT ONLY PARTIAL REFILL, THEN THE PROBLEM DOES NOT HAPPEN. IN ADDITION, THE ENGINE PROBLEM LIGHT COMES ON UPON FULL FUEL REFILL AFTER ABOVE OUTLINED PROBLEM AND DOES NOT RESET UNTIL ABOUT 70 MILES RUN ON AUTO. I HAVE NEVER SEEN THIS PROBLEM ON AUTOS I HAVE OWNED OR CONSULTING WITH OTHERS WITH MORE THAN 45 YEARS OF DRIVING.
MY CAR DOES NOT REGISTER GAS PROPERLY. THE GAS HAND IS IRRATIC AND CONTINUOUSLY FLUCIATES FROM FULL TO EMPTY REGARDLESS OF THE AMOUNT OF GAS. BECAUSE OF THE UNRELIABILITY OF THE GAS HAND, I RAN OUT OF GAS ON THEINTERSTATE! NO FURTHER EXPLANATION OF THIS VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION SHOULD BE NEEDED. AT TIMES THE CAR FAILS TO START AND IDLE PROPERLY. BOTH ISSUES ARE DUE TO A MALFUNCTION IN THE FUEL CIRCUIT SENSOR LOCATED INSIDE THE GAS TANK. THIS IS A PROBLEM THAT HAS BEEN REPORTED NUMEROUS TIMES WITH THIS MAKE AND MODEL. IT IS AN EXPENSIVE FIX DUE TO LOCATION OF THE SENSOR. PLEASE RECALL.

I RECEIVED THIS CAR FROM MY DAD IN JANUARY OF 2014. HE WARNED ME THAT IF YOU FILL IT UP ALL THE WAY THAT THE GAS LEVEL WILL DROP FROM FULL TO EMPTY. HE SAID IT HAPPENED TO HIM AND HE HAD TO TURN OFF THE VEHICLE AND TURN IT BACK ON AND PRESS ENTER TO FIX IT. I NEVER FILLED THE CAR ALL THE WAY UP OVER THE COURSE OF THE LAST YEAR UNTIL ABOUT THREE WEEKS AGO (JANUARY 2015). AFTER DOING SO, THE TANK WOULD READ FULL AND AFTER A FEW MINUTES WOULD DROP DOWN TO EMPTY. MY CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ALSO CAME ON. FOR THE PAST FEW WEEKS, THE GAS LEVEL WILL READ EITHER FULL OR EMPTY, NO IN BETWEEN, NO MATTER HOW MUCH GAS I PUT IN IT. I SEE THERE ARE A LOT OF OTHER PEOPLE HAVING THIS SAME ISSUE, AND I AGREE THAT THERE SHOULD BE A RECALL ON THIS MATTER. UPON FILLING THE CAR WITH FUEL AND TURNING THE KEY ON, THE FUEL LIGHT, CHECK ENGINE CAME ON AND THE FUEL GAUGE WAS READING EMPTY. TURNING THE KEY OFF AND BACK ON MANY TIMES DID NOT FIX THE ISSUE. HOWEVER, IF DRIVEN SOMETIMES THE GAS LIGHT, ENGINE LIGHT TURN OFF ON ITS OWN AND THE FUEL GAUGE READS PROPERLY. HOWEVER, IT SHOWS AFTER 5 MILES OF DRIVING THAT THERE IS ONLY A HALF A TANK EVEN THROUGH THE GAS TANK IS FULL. THIS DOES NOT OCCUR EVERY TIME I FILL UP. I HAVE CONTACTED MY DEALERSHIP AND THEY STATED THERE WAS A RECALL ON FUEL PUMPS PERTAINING TO THIS PROBLEM. HOWEVER, I HAVE NOT RECEIVED ANY INFORMATION. *TR
I WAS UN ABLE TO GET MY CAR FROM PARK TO DRIVE. I HAD TO PULL EXTREMELY HARD ON THE SHIFTER TO GET IT TO MOVE. *TR

THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE AND STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 11E009000 (FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE). THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 146,800 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 147,414.
I HAD JUST FILLED MY GAS TANK TO FULL. I DROVE DOWN THE STREET FOR A FEW BLOCKS AND THE FUEL GAUGE ALL OF A SUDDEN WENT TO EMPTY. I PULLED OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND TURN THE CAR OFF, THEN TURNED IT BACK ON AGAIN. THE FUEL GAUGE WENT BACK TO FULL. BUT AS I CONTINUED TO DRIVE DOWN THE STREET, IT WENT BACK DOWN TO EMPTY. I TOOK IT TO THE REPAIR SHOP AND WAS TOLD THAT I NEEDED TO REPLACE THE FUEL SENSOR FOR WHICH I DID. HOWEVER, UPON RESEARCHING THE LATEST RECALL OF GM'S THAT ADDRESSES THE STEERING COLUMN ISSUE (I'M HAVING THIS PROBLEM TOO), I DISCOVERED THAT THE FUEL SENSOR ISSUE WAS RECALLED PREVIOUSLY. SO I CALLED CHEVY AND WAS TOLD THAT MY VIN WAS NOT RECALLED. I NEED SOME DIRECTION/GUIDANCE ON HOW TO GET MY VIN INCLUDED IN THE PREVIOUS RECALL, IF AT ALL POSSIBLE SO I MAY BE REIMBURSED. I SEE THAT THERE HAS BEEN A RECALL FOR CHEVY MALIBU 2004-2007 ON FUEL PUMPS WITH A PART NUMBER OF TU456. MY FUEL PUMP HAS NOT BEEN WORKING CORRECTLY, AND I AM NOT SURE IF THIS WAS PART OF THE RECALL OR NOT. I AM HOPING THIS IS ONE OF THE VEHICLES THAT WAS IN THE RECALL, SO NOTHING HAPPENS TO ME OR MY FAMILY WHILE DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD. I RECEIVED A RECALL NOTICE GM STATING THAT THERE WAS A RECALL CONCERNING THE FUEL SYSTEM IE FUEL PUMP ON MY 2006 CHEVY MALIBU. THIS RECALL CAUTIONED THAT INTERMITTENT STALLING MAY CREATE A HAZARDOUS CONDITION THAT COULD POSSIBLY RESULT IN VEHICLE. AS A RESULT I SCHEDULED AN APPOINTMENT TO HAVE THIS CONDITION CORRECTED ON THE DATE OF THE APPOINTMENT I ARRIVED WITH THE VEHICLE IN QUESTION AND WAS TURNED AWAY. THE DEALERSHIP CLAIMED THAT THIS WAS A LIMITED RECALL AND THE RECALL FOR REPAIR HAD EXPIRED. I WAS ADVISED OF THIS RECALL BY MY REGULAR MECHANIC WHILE IN FOR UNRELATED MAINTENANCE. IT WAS THEN THAT HE INSTRUCTED ME TO MAKE AN APPOINTMENT WITH GM TO REPAIR THIS PROBLEM WITH NOT CHARGE TO ME. BEFORE I HAD KNOWLEDGE OF THIS RECALL, MY DAUGHTER WAS INVOLVED WITH A MOTOR VEHICLE ACCIDENT THAT DIRECTLY RELATED TO THIS PROBLEM IE FUEL SYSTEM. THEY PUT IN A 3 PART FUEL SYSTEM KIT/ACD12568796 THROTTLE BODY ASSEMBLY ELE AND THE BILL CAME TO $654.92. THE MILEAGE AT THAT TIME WAS 153101. I PURCHASED MY CAR FROM AN INDIVIDUAL. WHEN I PURCHASED THE CAR APRIL 2013 I KNEW THE GAS GAUGE DIDN'T WORK BUT I THOUGHT THAT'S OK I'LL JUST KEEP THE TANK FILLED UP AT ALL TIME. BUT I'VE BEEN HAVING TROUBLE WHEN IT IS IN IDLE POSITION. I FINANCED THIS VEHICLE IN MAY 2011 AND THREE MONTHS AFTER HAVING THIS VEHICLE THE FUEL GAUGE STOPPED WORKING. AFTER A COUPLE OF DAYS OF DRIVING THE GAUGE IS STILL READING COMPLETELY FULL AND THE OPTION THAT TELLS ME HOW MANY MILES I HAVE LEFT REMAINS AT 295. FUEL GAUGE FLUCTUATES BETWEEN FULL AND EMPTY, NEVER GIVING AN ACCURATE READING. THE FLUCTUATION OCCURS MORE RAPIDLY AFTER FILLING THE TANK. THIS HAS CAUSED ME TO RUN OUT OF GAS AND STALL IN THE MIDDLE OF ONCOMING TRAFFIC ON A VERY BUSY HIGHWAY. IN ADDITION, THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT IS ALWAYS ON. THE FUEL SENSOR IS VERY ERRATIC. AS SOON AS THE CAR IS FILLED UP WITH GAS, THE FUEL SENSOR WILL GO FROM F TO E IN THE MATTER OF SECONDS. WHEN THIS PROBLEM FIRST BEGAN, THE GAUGE WOULD GO FROM FULL TO EMPTY UNTIL I DROVE JUST ENOUGH THAT THE CAR'S FUEL LEVEL WAS NOT COMPLETELY FULL. AT THIS POINT, THE SENSOR WOULD WORK AND I WAS ABLE TO RELY ON THE FUEL GAUGE ON THE DASHBOARD. AFTER SOME TIME, HOWEVER, THE SENSOR STOPPED WORKING ALTOGETHER. NOW THE SENSOR IS CONSTANTLY MOVING FROM FULL TO EMPTY FOR NO REASON WHATSOEVER. THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT IS ALWAYS ON AND I NEVER KNOW HOW MUCH GAS IS IN THE TANK. I HAVE TO KEEP TRACK WITH THE TRIP MONITOR. AUTO REPAIR SHOPS HAVE QUOTED THIS REPAIR AT AROUND $600 STATING THAT THE CAR NEEDS A NEW FUEL ASSEMBLY KIT. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 66,900.

I TOOK IT TO THE DEALERSHIP AND BASICALLY THEY GAVE ME A DOCUMENT ID#2001730 REPORT THAT IT WAS A NORMAL CONDITION. I STILL CONTINUE TO HAVE ISSUES WITH MY CAR STARTING. I STARTED TO DO RESEARCH ON MY CAR AND SEE MANY COMPLAINTS ABOUT THESE SAME ISSUES. I DID TAKE IT TO THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY SAY THE FUEL LEVEL SENSOR SHORTED OUT AND I NEED TO REPLACE FUEL PUMP. PURCHASED A USED MALIBU 2 YEARS AGO. MY CAR IS A 2006 MODEL AND NOW HAS OVER 120,000 MILES ON IT. MY CAR STARTED HAVING START- UP PROBLEMS. SOME DAYS I WOULD GO AND TRY TO START MY CAR AND IT WOULD NOT START UP. THIS WENT ON OFF AND ON FOR ABOUT TWO MONTHS. FINALLY I TOOK THE CAR TO A SHOP TO HAVE CHECKED. RIGHT AWAY I WAS TOLD THE CAR NEEDED A NEW FUEL PUMP. THE FUEL PUMP WAS CHANGED. ABOUT A WEEK LATER, I PICKED UP MY CAR FROM THE SHOP, I WENT TO THE MARKET AND WHEN I CAME OUT OF THE STORE, THE CAR WOULD NOT START UP. I CALLED THE SHOP BACK AND HAD TO HAVE THE CAR TOWED RIGHT BACK TO THE SAME SHOP. THIS CAR EVENTUALLY ENDED UP AT THE SAME MECHANIC SHOP THREE TIMES, BEFORE I FINALLY DECIDED EITHER THE SHOP WAS NOT AWARE OF THE (RIGHT PROBLEM) AND CHANGED A FUEL PUMP THAT WAS NOT NECESSARY OR I NEEDED TO FIND A MORE KNOWLEDGEABLE MECHANIC SHOP. AFTER TAKING MY CAR TO ANOTHER CERTIFIED SHOP, I WAS TOLD THE MECHANIC COULD NOT FIND THE PROBLEM. SEVERAL HUNDRED DOLLARS LATER I AM STILL STUCK WITH A VEHICLE THAT WILL NOT START UP EVERYDAY. *TT

FAULTY GAS GAUGE ON MY GM CHEVROLET MALIBU. I RAN OUT OF GAS AND WAS STRANDED JUST AFTER THE LOW FUEL LIGHT WENT ON. I HAD NEVER RUN OUT OF GAS AND JUST PREVIOUSLY DURING MY DRIVE THE FUEL LEVEL READ BETWEEN 1/8 AND 1/4 FULL TANK. SO THE FUEL LEVEL READING INDICATED MORE FUEL AVAILABILITY THAN WAS ACTUALLY AVAILABLE IN THE TANK. I PROBABLY ONLY WENT 10 MILES AFTER THE LOW FUEL LIGHT WENT ON AND MY CAR HAS GOOD FUEL ECONOMY. I THINK THE READING WAS INACCURATE. I HAVE HAD MULTIPLE INCIDENTS OF RANDOM FUEL LEVEL READING WHILE I WAS DRIVING, WITH THE LOW FUEL LIGHT AND BELL GOING OFF, THEN LATER RETURNING TO ANOTHER, NOT LOW FUEL LEVEL, AND THE LOW FUEL LIGHT GOING OFF AGAIN. THE DEALER ADVISED THE CONTACT THAT THE FUEL PUMP WAS CRACKED AND WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED. THE DEALER ALSO ADVISED THAT THERE WAS A POSSIBILITY THAT THE FAILURE WOULD RECUR.
