The contact owns a 2006 Chevrolet Mailbu. The contact stated that the engine warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to Sound Radio where it was diagnosed that the transmission and an unknown censor failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The dealer was not notified. The manufacturer was notified of the failure but did not call the contact back. The failure mileage was unavailable.

ENGINE HAS BEGUN MALFUNCTIONING FOR NO REASON. EXPERIENCED PROBLEM 5 TIMES IN PAST WEEK. 1) VEHICLE WAS TRAVELING AT APPROXIMATELY 50 MPH ON FREEWAY. TRACTION CONTROL LIGHT AND CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON SIMULTANEOUSLY. RADIO INDICATED "REDUCE ENGINE POWER". I RELEASED GAS PEDAL. RADIO THEN INDICATED "ENGINE DISABLED," AND ENGINE SHUT OFF. COASTED TO A STOP. TURNED KEY TO "OFF" POSITION. TRIED TO RESTART, BUT WOULD NOT CRANK (EVERYTHING WAS COMPLETELY SILENT). TRIED TO CRANK AGAIN A MINUTE LATER. ENGINE STARTED WITHOUT HESITATION. CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON, BUT IMMEDIATELY WENT OFF. DROVE STRAIGHT TO MECHANICAL WITHIN 5 MILES. THERE WERE NO CODES TO READ. 2) VEHICLE WAS TRAVELING 30 MPH ON CITY STREET, MOVING FORWARD. TRACTION CONTROL AND CHECK ENGINE LIGHTS CAME ON. RADIO READ "REDUCE ENGINE POWER" AND WITHIN A FEW SECONDS CHANGED TO "ENGINE DISABLED" AS ENGINE SHUT DOWN. STOPPED CAR. WOULD NOT CRANK. REMOVED KEY AND WAITED ONE MINUTE. CAR CRANKED AND DROVE WITH NO PROBLEM AND NO INDICATOR LIGHTS. 3) VEHICLE WAS STATIONARY IN DRIVEWAY. TRACTION CONTROL AND CHECK ENGINE LIGHTS CAME ON. RADIO INDICATED "REDUCE ENGINE POWER" AND THEN "ENGINE DIABLED". ENGINE SHUT DOWN. TURNED KEY TO "OFF" POSITION. WAITED ONE MINUTE. CAR STARTED AND RAN WITH NO PROBLEM AND NO INDICATOR LIGHTS ON. 4) SAME INCIDENT IN SAME ORDER WHILE TRAVELING 45 MPH ON SERVICE ROAD. 5) HAPPENED IN SAME MANNER WHILE TRAVELING 70 MPH ON FREEWAY.

I PULLED INTO THE PARKING LOT AT WORK AND IT SAID ENGINE POWER DECREASING AND THEN STARTED MAKING STRANGE MESSED UP NOISES AND I COASTED INTO THE PARKING LOT IT DIDN'T DIE BUT IT WOULDN'T LET ME GO ANY FASTER. I TOOK THE CAR TO THE AUTO PARTS STORE AND HAD THEM PUT A SCANNER ON IT. OF WHICH IT SHOWED MULTIPLE CODES ALL RESULTING IN THE SAME ISSUE THE MASS FLOW SENSOR. I WAS TOLD THAT SINCE IT HAS HAPPENED ONCE IT'S LIABLE TO KEEP HAPPENING MAKING MY VEHICLE UNRELIABLE AND I AM A SINGLE MOM.

OUR 2006 CHEVY MALIBU LOW COOLANT LIGHT CAME ON. IT WAS CHECKED AND COOLANT WAS PUT IN THE VEHICLE. IT CONTINUED TO COME ON. IT WAS TAKEN TO OUR REGULAR CHEVY DEALER IN MARCH 2015 WHO MISDIAGNOSED THE PROBLEM AND REPLACED THE COOLANT RESERVOIR. THE LOW COOLANT LIGHT CAME BACK ON AND WE WERE LOOSING MORE ENGINE COOLANT IN JUNE 2015. IT WAS TAKEN BACK TO OUR DEALER. WE WERE TOLD IT HAS A CRACKED HEAD GASKET AND THE LEAK IS INTERNAL. THE CHEVY DEALER RECOMMENDED THE ENTIRE ENGINE BE REPLACED AS A PRECAUTION BECAUSE IT HAS OVER 100, 000 MILES. OUR 2006 CHEVY MALIBU HAVE BEEN MAINTAINED WELL AND KEPT UP WITH ALL MAINTENANCE. . AND FOR THE GASKET TO BE LEAKING IS BEYOND US. THE LEAK COULD NOT BE SEEN TO THE VISIBLE EYE. THE ONLY WAY WE KNEW THEIR WAS A LEAK WAS BECAUSE THE LOW COOLANT LIGHT CAME ON, WHICH WAS THE REASON WHY WE TOOK IT TO THE MECHANIC. WE ARE DISAPPOINTED WITH THE MISDIAGNOSE OF OUR VEHICLE AND WITH THE PROBLEM. THE CHEVY DEALER DID REFUND US FOR THE MISDIAGNOSE OF THE PROBLEM BUT NOTHING ELSE WAS OFFERED OR DONE. NOW WE HAVE TO FIGURE OUT WHAT TO DO BECAUSE WE NEED OUR CAR.

VEHICLE STALLS INTERMITTENTLY WHEN STOPPED AND IDLING. THIS OCCURS WHEN BACKING UP AND ALSO WHEN IDLING. IT SEEMS TO OCCUR MORE SO WHEN THE AIR TEMPERATURE OUTSIDE IS VERY HOT. USUALLY WHEN IT IS AROUND 85 - 90 DEGREES OUTSIDE. VEHICLE USUALLY RESTARTS OK. ONLY ONE INSTANCE WHEN ENGINE WAS TURNED OFF TWICE WHILE IDLING, IT WOULD NOT RESTART UNTIL ENGINE COOLED DOWN. THEN WAS ABLE TO START ENGINE. MECHANICS HAVE NOT BEEN ABLE TO DETECT PROBLEM EVEN WHEN VEHICLE WAS SCANNED FOR CODES. HAVE TAKEN IT TO DIFFERENT AUTOMOTIVE SERVICE SHOPS INCLUDING DEALERSHIPS AND NO ONE CAN FIND THE PROBLEM BECAUSE THEY STATE IT IS INTERMITTENT. AIR TEMPERATURE OUTSIDE OF VEHICLE SEEMS TO BE A KEY FACTOR WITH CAR STALLING WHEN TEMPERATURE VERY HOT. THE CAR HAS NEVER OVERHEATED WHEN THIS OCCURS.

I CALLED BERGER CHEVY AND THEY SAID ITS A CUSTOMER PAY. SHOULDN'T BE IF THIS WAS A MANUFACTURER DEFECT. THE AIR MASS FLOW IS RUNNING LEAN, BUT I SHOULD NOT HAVE TO PAY THIS, SHOULD I? ALTHOUGH SEVERAL VEHICLES HAVE BEEN RECALLED, THE MALIBU'S AND IMPALAS HAVE BEEN OVERLOOKED AS THEY HAVE THE SAME ISSUES AS THE OTHER RECALLED VEHICLES. I HAVE A VEHICLE THAT IS A LITERAL DEATHTRAP AND THE CHEVY SERVICE DEPARTMENT HAS ADVISED ME THAT THEY CANNOT DIAGNOSE THE VEHICLE. IF YOU REVIEW THE VARIOUS CAR FORUMS, THE RANDOM STOPPING ISSUE IS A COMMON PROBLEM WITH ALL CHEVY VEHICLES MAKE IN THIS TIMEFRAME. THE DEALERSHIPS OFFER LITTLE ASSISTANCE IN RESOLVING THE ISSUES IF NO CODE IS GENERATED. THE VEHICLES ARE ENGINEERED TO STOP IN THE EVENT OF ALMOST ANY MINOR ISSUE WITH THE VEHICLE. I AM A SINGLE PARENT THAT PURCHASED THIS CAR FOR MY DAUGHTER IN COLLEGE. SHE HAS COME HOME IN TEARS MANY TIMES DUE TO THE VEHICLE STOPPING ON HER WITH NO WARNING AND ALMOST BEING HIT SEVERAL TIMES. I HAVE SPENT ALMOST $1500 TRYING TO DETERMINE THE ISSUE THAT CHEVY COULD NOT DIAGNOSE. I HAD TO PURCHASE ANOTHER VEHICLE FOR MY DAUGHTER WHILE THE MALIBU IS LITERALLY USELESS AND SITS ON MY DRIVEWAY. I WOULD HATE TO EVEN GIVE IT AWAY KNOWING OF THIS ISSUE. IF I SELL THIS VEHICLE TO SOMEONE ELSE, I AM SELLING A DEATHTRAP THAT COULD CAUSE ANOTHER FAMILY A MAJOR TRAGEDY. ON 11/15/2011 THE USA TODAY REPORTED THAT FEDERAL SAFETY REGULATORS WERE INVESTIGATING PROBLEMS WITH THE AUTOMATIC SHIFT LEVERS ON SEVERAL GENERAL MOTORS CARS. THE NATIONAL HIGHWAY TRAFFIC SAFETY ADMINISTRATION SAYS ON ITS WEBSITE THAT IT'S LOOKING INTO THE SAME PROBLEM ON OTHER GM CARS LIKE THE 2004-2008 CHEVROLET MALIBU. I AM THE ORIGINAL OWNER OF A 2006 CHEVROLET MALIBU WHICH HAS BEEN METICULOUSLY MAINTAINED AND CAN BE VERIFIED THROUGH CARFAX OR MAINTENANCE RECORDS. I HAD TO REPLACE THE TRANSMISSION AT GORDON CHEVROLET IN TAMPA, FLORIDA. THE COST OF THE TRANSMISSION REPLACEMENT WAS $3,086.01. THE SYMPTOMS OF THE TRANSMISSION PROBLEM WERE THE EXACT SAME THING AS REPORTED IN THE USA TODAY ARTICLE. THE VEHICLE WASN'T FINDING THE RIGHT GEAR. THE SHIFT LEVER WOULD FEEL LIKE IT WAS IN-BETWEEN GEARS AND IT WOULDN'T CATCH IN A CERTAIN GEAR. THE RPM'S WOULD SURGE UP WHILE IT STILL WOULDN'T CATCH INTO GEAR. ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS WHEN IT WAS PLACED IN REVERSE IT WOULD TRAVEL FORWARD AS SOON AS YOU TOOK YOUR FOOT OFF THE BRAKE, ALMOST LIKE ON A HILL BUT ON COMPLETELY FLAT GROUND. ON THE HIGHWAY I COULD BE DRIVING AT A CONSISTENT SPEED AND THE RPM'S WOULD BE JUMPING UP AND DOWN WHICH IT NEVER DID IN A PROPER GEAR. MADE A TRANSPONDER KEY, PARTS PERSON AT THE GM DEALERSHIP JUST STARTED THE ENGINE WITH IT AND SAID IT WAS ALREADY PROGRAMMED.( HE JUST TESTED TO SEE IF THE KEY WILL START THE ENGINE.) WHEN GOT HOME WITH ORIGINAL KEY AND TURNED OFF THE ENGINE I TRIED TO SECURE CAR WITH THE REMOTE AND IT DID NOT WORK. TRIED ORIGINAL KEY TO START CAR EVERYTHING WAS DEAD INCLUDING BATTERY. DISCONNECT AND RECONNECT BATTERY, NOW THE SECURITY LIGHT DOES NOT COME ON, CAR CAN'T START, THERE IS NOTHING ONLY THE LIGHTS ON DASH WITH OTHER ICONS. I DON'T KNOW IF THE CHIP KEY THAT WAS MADE CAUSE THE SYSTEM TO FAIL. I HATE TO HAVE TO TOW THE CAR CAUSE I KNOW THE DEALER WOULD CHARGE ME AN ARM AND A LEG. I HATE TO GET THE PARTS PERSON IN TROUBLE. 2006 CHEVY MALIBU LT, 2.2 IS STALLING, STARTED MID AUG 2010. IT HAPPENS MOSTLY WHEN THE RPMS GO BETWEEN .5 TO 1. I AM NOT SURE HOW MANY TIMES IT HAS STALLED BUT I WOULD ESTIMATE IT HAS HAPPENED ABOUT 15-25 TIMES. I HAVE TO HOLD THE BREAK DOWN FIRMLY WHILE GENTLY ACCELERATING TO KEEP THE CAR ON. THE STALLING OCCURS WHILE IM STOPPED OR WHEN I'M IN MOTION, WHICH MAY CAUSE AN ACCIDENT ON THE ROAD OR HIGHWAY. I TRIED CHANGING THE SPARK PLUGS & THAT DIDN'T WORK. THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT HAD BEEN ON BEFORE IT STARTED STALLING, I FINALLY GOT IT CHECKED AND CODES P0106 AND P0121 CAME UP. I HAVE BEEN SEARCHING FOR ANOTHER AND IN DOING SO, I HAVE NOTICED SEVERAL OF THE 2006 MALIBU THAT ARE ON RECALL AT VARIOUS DEALERS FOR SALE. THIS IS A DANGER TO THE PURCHASER AND POSSIBLY CHILDREN THAT MAY BE IN THE CAR. CAN SOMETHING NOT BE DONE TO GET ALL THESE VEHICLES OFF THE STREETS? I AM A CHRISTIAN WOMAN AND I DON'T WANT TO SEE ANYONE HURT. I BELIEVE IN GENERAL MOTORS BUT IT IS THE PEOPLE OUT HERE NOT ADHERING TO THE RECALL LETTERS. THEY WERE GENEROUS IN THEIR OFFER.
