ELECTRICAL SYSTEM:WIRING

General Motors LLC (GM) is recalling certain model year 2004-2012 Chevrolet Malibu vehicles manufactured May 16, 2003, through October 11, 2012, 2004-2007 Malibu Maxx vehicles manufactured June 25, 2003, through April 5, 2007, 2005-2010 Pontiac G6 vehicles manufactured May 26, 2004, through January 4, 2010, and 2007-2010 Saturn Aura vehicles manufactured April 24, 2006, through May 26, 2009. In the affected vehicles, increased resistance in the Body Control Module (BCM) connection may result in voltage fluctuations in the Brake Apply Sensor (BAS) circuit. These fluctuations can cause one or more of these conditions: the brake lights to illuminate without the brake pedal being pushed; the brake lights to not illuminate when the pedal is pushed; difficulty disengaging the cruise control; moving the gear shifter out of the 'PARK' position without pushing the brake; and disablement of crash avoidance features such as traction control, electronic stability control, and panic braking assist features.

Fix: GM will notify owners, and dealers will attach the wiring harness to the BCM with a spacer, apply dielectric lubricant to both the BCM and harness connector and the BAS and harness connector, and will relearn the brake pedal home position, free of charge. The manufacturer distributed an Interim letter to customers on July 14, 2014. The recall began on August 18, 2014. Owners may contact General Motors customer service at 1-800-222-1020 (Chevrolet), 1-800-762-2737 (Pontiac), 1-800-553-6000 (Saturn). GM's number for this recall is 13036.

There are many recalls for the year make and model of my vehicle. They just didn't recall my exact vin. The breaks are recalled, air bags were recalled and they were buying back the vehicles, the fuel delivery system was recalled, headlights were recalled, cruise control was recalled, steering column and yoke was recalled, and a few more. None were recalled for my vin number when it should have been. I took my car to the dealership today, Chevrolet did a few things under "warranty" instead of issuing a safety recall. (They issued 10 recalls on this year make and model) (one recall was the air bags, my vehicle is doing the same thing). The fuel delivery system and fuel pump was recalled but not on my vin number. I just really need help getting my car repaired. I cannot afford to fix all of this when there's records dating back to the purchase of the vehicle, showing that there are problems and Chevrolet neglectfully didn't recall it and instead tried to brush it off as a warranty instead of safety recall. My car leaks gas, the steering it messed up, headlights no longer work due to the electrical issue, the instrument cluster was damaged due to the ecm issue, there's just so many problems... My car could potentially catch fire for the fuel leak, carbon monoxide smell, electrical wiring and the air bags could potentially deploy.

THE CAR IS NOT FUNCTIONING RIGHT I AM HAVING MAJOR PROBLEMS SUCH AS MY MANUFACTURING CONTROL MY BATTERY LIGHT IT'S CONSTANTLY GOING ON AND OFF IT IS DRAINING MY ALTERNATOR I HAVE JUST RECENTLY SWITCHED OUT THE THROTTLE BODY AND IT WAS STILL GIVING ME MINOR PROBLEMS SUCH AS A BACK REAR END PASSENGER TIRE WELL I DON'T TECHNICALLY THINK THAT IT WAS THE TIRE BECAUSE IT MAKES A LOUD ROCKING NOISE HAVEN'T QUITE JUST FOUND OUT THE PROBLEM I HAVE CHECKED OUT EVERY OTHER THING THAT I COULD THINK ABOUT TO MY VEHICLE 2006 CHEVY MALIBU THAT IS BUT I MYSELF CONTINUE TO WORK ON IT AND HALF OF THE TIME IT STILL SHUTS DOWN OR WON'T COMPLY RIGHT AND ONE MORE OTHER THING MY ABS SYSTEM TAKES A 60% FUSE BUT THE ABS STILL COMES ON WITH THE FUSE IN AND WITH IT OUT AND I AM HAVING A MAJOR PROBLEM WITH MY TRACTION CONTROL SENSOR BUT NOW SO FAR MY CAR IS JUST DOWN AND NOT DRIVABLE AND ONE MORE THING MY CAR WAS DRIVING DURING THE SHUTDOWN SYSTEM ON THE CITY STREETS

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 CHEVROLET MALIBU. WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS STATIONARY AND WHILE DRIVING VARIOUS SPEEDS, IT STALLED WITHOUT WARNING ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS. ON EACH OCCASION, THE CONTACT IMMEDIATELY ACTIVATED THE HAZARD LIGHTS AND COASTED THE VEHICLE TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE ANTI-LOCK BRAKE WARNING INDICATOR ILLUMINATED AND THE VEHICLE STALLED AND WOULD NOT RESTART AFTER SEVERAL ATTEMPTS. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE CONTACT'S RESIDENCE. AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC REPLACED THE ALTERNATOR, IGNITION SWITCH, STARTER, FUEL TANK, AND THE BATTERY; HOWEVER, THE FAILURES RECURRED. VANDERGRIFF CHEVROLET (1200 WEST INTERSTATE 20, ARLINGTON, TEXAS 76017, (682) 323-2486) WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURES. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED BY THE DEALER. MY 2006 CHEVY HAS BEEN HAVING SOME SORT OF ELECTRICAL ISSUE. THE POWER LOCK DOOR WILL NOT UNLOCK BY PRESSING THE BUTTON AND INSTEAD WILL ON THEIR OWN LOCK AND UNLOCK THEMSELVES WITHOUT THE BUTTONS OR CAR RUNNING FOR SOME INSTANCES OF 1 MINUTE UP TO 5 MINUTES. WE HAVE HAD TO PRY A WINDOW OPEN TO GET INSIDE THE VEHICLE TO TURN THE VEHICLE OFF. HOWEVER SOMETIMES YOU ARE UNABLE TO GET THE DOORS TO UNLOCK WITHOUT TURNING THE KEYS IN THE MANUAL CAR LOCK LOCATED ON THE DRIVER'S SIDE DOOR. THE LOCK PULSE WHEN SITTING STILL OR DRIVING THE CAR.

IF YOU THINK GM HAD A BIG PROBLEM WITH THE IGNITION SWITCHES HERE IS A BIGGER ONE. I HAVE OWNED GM SINCE 1972 AND HAVE ALWAYS FOUND THAT THE DELCO BATTERIES ARE THE BEST. YOU COULD GO 8 TO 8 1/2 YEARS BEFORE YOU NEEDED TO REPLACE THE BATTERY BECAUSE AN INTERNAL PLATE WOULD SEPARATE FROM THE BANK OF PLATES. BUT SOMETHING CHANGED IN THE 1990S.I HAVE HAD TWO DELCO BATTERIES DO THIS AND I READ ABOUT A MAN IN FLORIDA THAT DIED IN HIS CAR BECAUSE IT HAPPENED TO HIM. YOUR GET IN YOUR VEHICLE, START THE ENGINE, PUT THE CAR IN GEAR, THE DOOR LOCKS ACTIVATE, AND THE ENGINE QUITS. YOU PUT THE CAR BACK IN PARK, AND TRY STARTING THE VEHICLE AGAIN, NOTHING !! ALL ELECTRICAL CIRCUITS ARE DEAD. THE POSITIVE BATTERY CABLE AND POST HAVE SEPERATED FROM THE BATTERY. TO GET OUT OF THE CAR YOU HAVE TO TRIP THE MANUAL DOOR LOCKS. IF SOMEONE HOLDS THE POST BACK INTO THE BATTERY YOU WILL HAVE POWER BUT AS SOON AS THEY LET GO, ALL ELECTRICAL CIRCUITS DIE. THINK OF IT THIS WAY. YOU ARE HEADING HOME AFTER A HOLIDAY, ON AN EXPRESSWAY IN THE COUNTRY, DOING 70 MPH, IN THE DARK. BUMPER TO BUMPER. THE POSITIVE BATTERY POST BREAKS LOOSE. YOU NOW HAVE NO HEAD LIGHTS, NO HORN, NO TURN SIGNALS, NO BRAKE LIGHTS, NO BODY LIGHTS,NO POWER STEERING, NO POWER BRAKES, ALL ELECTRICAL CIRCUITS HAVE DIED. YOU ARE THE CAPTAIN OF A GHOST SHIP AND THAT DRIVER THAT YOU KNOW WAS BEHIND YOU WILL ONLY HAVE A SECOND TO REACT WHEN HIS HEADLIGHTS PICK YOU UP. GM NEEDS TO INVESTIGATE AND CORRECT.

IN SEPT 2014, I HAD MY 2006 MALIBU REPAIRED UNDER GM RECALL 13036. AT THE END OF JUNE 2015, I NOTICED THAT MY BRAKE LIGHTS WERE MALFUNCTIONING. I TOOK MY CAR TO A LOCAL MECHANIC FOR REPAIR, WHICH WAS THE SAME WORK THAT WAS DONE FOR THE RECALL. AT THE END OF JULY 2015, THE MALFUNCTION RETURN AGAIN. I CONTACTED CHEVY VIA EMAIL AND PHONE, AND WAS FIRST TOLD THAT THERE WASN'T A RECALL FOR THIS PROBLEM. I CALLED AGAIN AND EXPLAIN THAT I WAS HAVING THE PROBLEM DESCRIBED IN RECALL 13036 (" THESE FLUCTUATIONS CAN CAUSE ONE OR MORE OF THESE CONDITIONS: THE BRAKE LIGHTS TO ILLUMINATE WITHOUT THE BRAKE PEDAL BEING PUSHED; THE BRAKE LIGHTS TO NOT ILLUMINATE WHEN THE PEDAL IS PUSHED"). I WAS THEN TOLD THAT THERE WAS A RECALL, BUT THAT MINE WAS "CLOSED" SINCE I HAD ALREADY HAD IT DONE ONCE. I AM CONCERNED THAT I WILL BE REAR-ENDED BECAUSE OF THE MALFUNCTIONING BRAKE LIGHTS, WHICH IS A PROBLEM THAT CHEVY/GM IS AWARE OF, HAVING ALREADY ISSUED A RECALL.

ON THE DAY OF THE INCIDENT I WAS TRAVELING ON THE ROAD WITH MY TWO CHILDREN IN THE VEHICLE. SUDDENLY THE SPEEDOMETER AND GAUGES ON THE DASHBOARD WENT DOWN TO ZERO WHILE I WAS DRIVING. THE ABS,TRACTION CONTROL, ENGINE LIGHT, AND SECURITY LOCK LIGHTS WERE LITE UP ON THE DASHBOARD. THE FUEL GAUGE IS NOT RESPONDING TO THE AMOUNT OF FUEL IN TANK. IF EVER I TURN THE CAR OFF IT WOULD NOT RESTART WHICH MEANT MY CHILDREN AND I WOULD HAVE BEEN STUCK IN THE MIDDLE OF NOWHERE. ITS BEEN A HEADACHE TRYING TO KEEP UP WITH THE AMOUNT OF GAS IN MY VEHICLE DUE TO GAUGE NOT RESPONDING. THE POWER STEERING LIGHT COMES ON THE DASHBOARD. JUST EVERYTHING IS WRONG WITH THIS MODEL VEHICLE AND IT SEEMS EVERY WEEK THERE'S ANOTHER RECALL THAT IS ADDED TO THE LIST. ITS SCARY. SEVERAL YEARS AGO VEHICLE STARTED TO EXHIBIT IGNITION MISSES WHEN MAKING SLOW SPEED TURNS 10-20MPH. CONDITION WOULD CORRECT ITSELF WHEN COMING OUT OF TURNS OR ENTRANCE RAMPS MERGING INTO TRAFFIC. IN 2013 AND 2014 OCCURRENCE BECAME MORE FREQUENT (2-3 TIMES WEEKLY). CHEVROLET DEALER ADVISED ME TWO MONTHS AGO THAT IT APPEARS TO BE CAUSED BY DEFECTIVE IGNITION SWITCH AND ADVISED ME TO REMOVE UNNECESSARY WEIGHT FROM IGNITION KEY CHAIN. I IMMEDIATELY DID THIS AND PROBLEM HAS NOT HAPPEN AGAIN. HOWEVER, DEALER ADVISED THAT I COULD ADD MY NAME TO WAIT LIST FOR A NEW IGNITION SWITCH, BUT WOULD HAVE TO PAY FOR THE REPAIR SINCE MY 2006 IS NOT ON THE RECALL LIST. SINCE MANY OTHER GM MODELS HAVE BEEN RECALLED FOR THIS SAME LATENT DEFECT I FEEL MY VEHICLE SHOULD BE ADDED TO THE RECALL LIST FOR THIS PROBLEM. *TR

ON LOTS OF OCCASIONS, VEHICLES BEHIND YOU TEND TO ALMOST SLAM YOU IN THE REAR END BECAUSE YOUR BRAKE LIGHTS ARE OFF WHEN YOU ARE STOPPED AND THEY THINK YOU HAVE LET OFF THE BRAKES TO PROCEED. THERE HAVE ALSO BEEN TIMES WHEN THERE ARE NO TAIL LIGHTS AT ALL. ALSO, THERE IS AN ISSUE OF SHIFTING FROM PARK TO DRIVE. I HAVE SEEN LOTS OF COMPLAINTS ON THE COMPUTER, BUT NO RECALL THAT I CAN FIND. SINCE WE HAVE PURCHASED THE CAR WE HAVE HAD TO REPLACE THE BATTERY 3 DIFFERENT TIMES, EACH TIME WE HAVE HAD TO REPLACE THE BATTERY WE TAKE IT TO THE SHOP AND LET THEM TEST THE BATTERY AND THERE IS ALWAYS A DEAD CELL IN THE BATTERY.THE BATTERY IS ONLY LASTING FROM 4 TO 6 MONTHS WE HAVE HAD THE CAR IN THE GARAGE AND NO ONE CAN FIGURE OUT WHAT IS GOING ON. I HAVE NOTICED THAT THERE HAVE BEEN OTHER COMPLAINTS ALSO. THE VEHICLE UNLOCKS THE DOORS AUTOMATICALLY BY ITSELF WITHOUT THE POWER DOOR LOCK SWITCHES OR UNLOCK BUTTON ON THE REMOTE KEY FOB BEING ACTIVATED. THE PROBLEM OCCURS DURING DRIVING THE VEHICLE AS WELL AS AFTER THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN TURNED OFF. IN ADDITION, THE PROBLEM OCCURS WHEN THE AUXILLARY POWER IS ON (AFTER THE CAR IS TURNED OFF AND THERE IS POWER TO THE WINDOWS AND RADIO - BEFORE THE DOORS ARE OPENED) AS WELL AS AFTER THE AUXILLARY POWER IS TURNED OFF (AFTER THE DOORS HAVE BEEN OPENED AND POWER TO THE RADIO AND WINDOWS HAS BEEN TURNED OFF). THE VEHICLE IS FOUND WITH ITS DOORS UNLOCKED WHEN THE DRIVER RETURNS TO THE VEHICLE (DRIVER LOCKED THE DOORS AND CONFIRMED THEY WERE LOCKED WHEN LEAVING THE VEHICLE PARKED). THE VEHICLE ALSO DISABLES THE SECURITY SYSTEM WHEN IT UNLOCKS THE DOORS CAUSING ANYONE TO ENTER THE VEHICLE WITHOUT THE ALARM OR SECURITY SYSTEM ACTIVATING. THIS CREATES A SECURITY AND SAFETY CONCERN FOR THE DRIVER AND PASSENGERS. THE VEHICLE DOORS MAY NOT STAY LOCKED WHEN LEAVING THE VEHICLE WHICH CREATES A SECURITY CONCERN. I COULD HEAR CLICKING IN MY DOOR, UNDER THE HOOD, AND IN THE BACK OF MY CAR SOMEWHERE. I READ ONLINE AND FOUND A DISTURBING NUMBER OF PEOPLE WHO HAVE ALSO HAD THIS PROBLEM, THEY SEEMED TO HAVE A FIX OF KEEPING IT ON THE ACC POSITION UNTIL THE LIGHT WENT OFF, TURN IT OFF AND LEAVE IT OFF FOR A FEW MINUTES AND THEN IT SHOULD WORK! I TRIED IT.... IT DIDN'T WORK. IT JUST WENT CRAZY AGAIN WITH THE FLASHING LIGHT AND CLICKING NOISES. ITS BEEN 5 HOURS AND I STILL CAN NOT TURN ON MY CAR. THE CONTACT IS IN THE PROCESS OF TAKING THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER FOR INSPECTION AND NOTIFYING THE MANUFACTURER. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 35,900 AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 72,000.

NO MODIFICATIONS HAD BEEN MADE TO THE MANUFACTURER'S SPEAKERS. THE INSURANCE COMPANY ATTEMPTED TO HAVE THE REPAIRS PERFORMED ON THE VEHICLE, BUT TO NO AVAIL. THE VEHICLE WAS DESTROYED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 59,301.

THE FAILURE HAS OCCURRED ON FOUR OCCASIONS DURING HEAVY RAINSTORMS, THUNDERSTORMS, AND/OR LIGHTNING. THE VEHICLE WAS DIAGNOSED AND CONFIRMED THAT THE STARTER, ALTERNATOR, AND BATTERY WERE NOT THE CAUSES OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE CAME STANDARD WITH AN AUTO START FEATURE AT THE TIME OF PURCHASE. A MECHANIC DIAGNOSED THE FAILURE AND REPLACED THE COMPUTER MODULE; HOWEVER, THE FAILURE CONTINUED. THE MOST RECENT FAILURE OCCURRED ON MAY 1, 2008. THE CONTACT WAS RESPONSIBLE FOR PAYING $2,200 FOR THE REPAIRS. HE FILED COMPLAINT NUMBER 71-625205218 WITH THE MANUFACTURER. SPEED WAS NOT A FACTOR. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 23,000 AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 47,700.

TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 CHEVROLET MALIBU CLASSIC. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE ANTI-THEFT SYSTEM AUTOMATICALLY SHUTS ITSELF DOWN AS WELL AS THE ENGINE. THE LIGHT ILLUMINATES AND ONCE THE VEHICLE SHUTS OFF, SHE MUST LEAVE THE IGNITION IN THE ON POSITION BEFORE IT CAN RESTART. THE FAILURE HAS OCCURRED SEVERAL TIMES AND THE CONTACT HAS HAD TO WAIT TEN MINUTES OR MORE FOR THE VEHICLE TO RESTART. THE MANUFACTURER'S MANUAL DOES NOT STATE HOW TO STOP THIS FAILURE. THIS FAILURE SHOULD ONLY OCCUR WHEN SOMEONE IS ATTEMPTING TO STEAL THE VEHICLE, BUT ALWAYS OCCURS WHILE THE CONTACT IS DRIVING. SHE PAID OVER $700 TO REPAIR THE VEHICLE AND SIX MONTHS LATER, THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE ENGINE SIZE WAS UNKNOWN. THE CURRENT MILEAGE IS 38,000 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 35,000.
