While using cruise control on the highway, your car unexpectedly accelerated and wouldn't stop when you hit the brakes or pressed the cruise control off button. You had to shift into neutral and use the brakes to safely pull over, but the engine raced to maximum RPM during this process. When you restarted the engine, it immediately raced to maximum RPM again without you touching the accelerator.

THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE TIMING CHAIN HAD FAILED AND THE ENGINE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT YET REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. I WAS DRIVING HOME WITH MY DAUGHTER ON INTERSTATE ROUTE 80 WHEN I NOTICED MY CAR WAS EMITTING A THICK BLACK SMOKE TRAIL. I IMMEDIATELY TOOK THE NEXT EXIT AND PULLED INTO A PARKING LOT. FILLED 2005 MALIBU WITH GAS. FUEL READ FULL. PULLED OFF FROM GAS STATION FUEL GAUGE WENT TO EMPTY. FUEL LIGHT AND CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON CAR TURNED OFF WHILE AT THE LIGHT. I AM NOT TRYING TO DIE DUE TO A CORPORATION NEGLIGENCE!!!! *TR
HAD BEEN EXPERIENCING FAILURE TO START AND STALLING OF VEHICLE WHILE DRIVING, ON OCCASION. TOOK IT IN FOR SERVICE AT A LOCAL, REPUTABLE SHOP IN MADISON HEIGHTS, MI. WAS INFORMED IT NEEDED A FUEL PUMP. JOB WAS COMPLETED. UPON PICKING UP CAR ABOUT AUGUST 5, 2014, DROVE IT AWAY BUT RETURNED TO AREA OF SHOP TO ASK MECHANIC A QUESTION. ABOUT 1/8 MILE FROM SHOP AND AT ABOUT 35 MPH, THE ENGINE COMPLETELY SHUT OFF. ALL AUTOMATIC SYSTEMS--BRAKES, STEERING, DASHBOARD LIGHTS, ETC.--FAILED AS WELL. ENGINE DID NOT FALTER PRIOR TO THIS; IT SIMPLY SHUT DOWN. WE WERE ABLE TO COAST INTO THE SHOP'S PARKING LOT, THANKFULLY! SHOP HAD CAR FOR SEVERAL DAYS AFTERWARD DUE TO A MAJOR FLOOD IN SE MICHIGAN ABOUT THAT TIME. UPON THEIR RESUMING WORK ON IT, THEY ALSO EXPERIENCED THE ENGINE FAILURE DURING A TEST DRIVE. WE THEN TOOK CAR TO SERRA CHEVROLET IN SOUTHFIELD, MI, WHERE WE HAD PURCHASED IT SOME MONTHS EARLIER. WE WERE INFORMED IT WAS THE IGNITION SWITCH--OUT OF WARRANTY AND NO RECALL EXISTING--AND THE JOB WAS COMPLETED, AT OUR EXPENSE. WE FOLLOWED UP THIS REPAIR WITH A REQUEST TO GENERAL MOTORS FOR A REFUND OF THE $578.38 CHARGE. GM REFUSED, STATING THE CAR WAS OUT OF WARRANTY. WE OBJECT TO THIS! THIS APPEARS TO BE THE CLASSIC ENGINE FAILURE/IGNITION SWITCH PROBLEM GM HAS EXPERIENCED ON HUNDREDS OF THOUSANDS OF CARS, IN AND OUT OF WARRANTY. WE NOTE THAT IN THEIR REFUSAL, GM DID NOT USE THE WORD "RECALL," MAKING US BELIEVE THEY ARE DODGING THAT ISSUE UNTIL SUCH TIME, AS WE EXPECT, THE RECALL OF THEIR CARS WITH THE CLASSIC ENGINE FAILURE/IGNITION SWITCH PROBLEM WILL EXTEND BACK TO 2005 MODELS! ANY ASSISTANCE OR ADVICE YOU CAN EXTEND IN THIS MATTER WOULD BE APPRECIATED. *JS

MY VEHICLE STALLED ON RAILROAD TRACKS I DID HAVE A HEAVY LOAD ON THE KEY CHAIN AND WHEN IT WOULD NOT MOVE I KEPT HITTING THE GAS PEDAL BUT IT WOULD NOT MOVE WHEN IN THE PROCESS OF RAISING MY LEG UP AND DOWN ON THE GAS PEDAL I HIT THE IGNITION SWITCH THE ENGINE FAILED I THEN PUT IT IN REVERSE AND NOTHING I SAID TO MYSELF I HAVE GOT TO GET OUT OF THIS CAR THE TRAIN IS GOING TO HIT SO I WAS ABLE TO UNLEASH MY SEATBELT AND OPEN THE DOOR THAT IS THE TIME WHEN THE UNION PACIFIC TRAIN HIT RIGHT IN FRONT OF MY DRIVER S FRONT DOOR I WAS THROWN 30 FEET FROM THE VEHICLE AND OF COURSE THE CAR WAS TOTALED. I WAS AIRLIFTED TO THE HOSPITAL WHEN THEY FINALLY FOUND ME IN A RICE FIELD. I ALMOST DIED FROM THIS ACCIDENT . I DID NOT RECEIVE A LETTER FROM GM STATING THE PROBLEM WITH THE VEHICLE THAT IT WOULD CUT THE ENGINE OFF AS I STATED BEFORE. IT TOOK ME 2 1/2 YEARS TO RECUPERATE. AND I STILL LIVE WITH PROBLEMS TO MY NECK AND SHOULDER. I HAD MY SPLEEN REMOVED ,CONTUSIONS TO MY HEAD ,WHICH TO THIS DAY I STUTTER, I ALSO HAD MY SPINE TWISTED, I SUFFER WITH THAT ALSO. MY 17 YEAR OLD SON WAS PRACTICING DRIVING ON A MAIN ROAD WHEN THE CAR STARTING GOING LESS THE 10MPH WHILE WE WERE DO A LITTLE OVER 45MPH. IN THE MIDDLE LANE OF I-85 ATLANTA, 3:30 P.M.. WE WERE IN BUMPER TO BUMPER TRAFFIC,STOP AND GO, VERY SLOW TRAFFIC. SUDDENLY, MY CAR SHOOK AND THEN CUT OFF. AFTER PUTTING ON HAZARD LIGHTS, I TRIED SEVERAL TIMES TO START IT BACK AND IT WOULD START, SHAKE AND SHUT OFF. I FINALLY GOT IT STARTED AND TURNED OFF AC AND TRAVELED THE REST OF THE WAY. NEEDLESS TO SAY, IT WAS VERY FRIGHTENING AND DANGEROUS IN THE MIDDLE LANE OF RUSH HOUR TRAFFIC. *JS

ALSO, THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ILLUMINATED ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL. THE VEHICLE WAS TURNED OFF AND RESTARTED BEFORE IT RESUMED NORMAL OPERATION. APPROXIMATELY FIVE MINUTES LATER THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THERE WAS NO DIAGNOSIS COMPLETED ON THE VEHICLE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 60,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 60,300.

CAR LOST POWER, STEERING INTACT & I STEERED IT TO THE SHOULDER OF THE INTERSTATE HIGHWAY. ANTI-THEFT LIGHT WAS FLASHING. ON JUN 4TH, ALL ATTEMPTS TO RESET THE THE SYSTEM FAILED (I WAS WAITING TEN MINUTES WITH KEY IN ON POSITION). THE CAR BEGAN TO FLASH ALL LIGHTS & A BUZZING ALARM SOUNDED. BY JULY, THE ANTI THEFT DEVICE WAS PREVENTING STARTING OR CAUSING THE ENGINE TO STOP ON A DAILY BASIS. A CODE INDICATED A PROBLEM WITH THE FUEL SUPPLY TO THE INJECTORS & POSSIBLY THE FUEL PUMP. (THE ANTI THEFT DEVICE WORKS BY CUTTING OFF THE FUEL TO THE INJECTORS). REPLACED 2 FUEL PUMPS (ALL WORKING), HAD ELECTRICAL SYSTEM CHECKED, REPLACED A DEFECTIVE FUSE BOX,BENT PLUG. THE PROBLEM OCCURRED INTERMITTENTLY, & WAS DOCUMENTED BY THE SHOP. TODAY CAR WAS DISABLED BY THE ANTI THEFT DEVICE AS I TURNED ONTO THE STATE HIGHWAY.. WHEN I PICKED MY HUSBAND UP FROM WORK AT NIGHT THE CAR DISPLAYED THE ANTI THEFT LIGHT AND BUZZED & QUIT IN THE MIDDLE OF A FOUR LANE ROAD. WE MANAGED TO GET ALMOST HOME, & TURNED INTO OUR DRIVEWAY WHEN THE LIGHT BEGAN FLASHING & THE BUZZER AGAIN WENT OFF. A CAR ALMOST HIT US, BUT THE GUY PULLED OVER & HELPED PUSH OUR CAR. THE LOCAL CHEVROLET DEALER OFFERED TO DO A DIAGNOSTIC FOR $98, BUT SAYS THERE ARE NO BULLETINS OR RECALLS IT APPEARS THAT A GREAT MANY INCIDENTS OF THIS SORT HAVE OCCURRED WITHOUT ANY RESPONSE BY THE NHTSA TO INITIATE A RECALL OR HAVE CHEVROLET FIX OR DISABLE THE DEVICE ON AFFECTED VEHICLES, EVEN THOUGH THERE IS A SPAN OF OVER SEVEN YEARS OR MORE DURING WHICH CHEVY CONTINUED TO MANUFACTURE VEHICLES WITH FULL KNOWLEDGE THAT THE PART WAS DEFECTIVE & CAUSING LIFE THREATENING EVENTS. PLEASE DIRECT CHEVROLET TO NOTIFY OWNERS & AMELIORATE THE DANGER CREATED BY THEIR DEFECTIVE PRODUCT AT THEIR EXPENSE. *KB

HER CAR, A 2005 CHEVY MALIBU WITH 68,000 MILES, HAS BEEN IN FOR REPAIRS FOUR TIMES. . . LONDOFF HAS EXTRACTED OVER $1400.00 FROM THIS WIDOW WOMAN, CONTINUING TO REPLACE PART AFTER PART WHICH HAS DONE NOTHING TO ALLEVIATE THE COMPLAINT. THEY DO NOT KNOW WHAT THE PROBLEM IS !!!! THE INTERNET REVEALS THOUSANDS OF IDENTICAL COMPLAINTS! ESSENTIALLY, MS. X'S CHEVY STOPS RUNNING, OR SLOWS TO 15 MPH WHILE IN THE FAST LANE OF THE INTERSTATE HIGHWAY WHERE THE SPEED LIMIT IS 60 MPH WITH NO WARNING! THE LAST TIME THE CAR WAS TAKEN INTO LONDOFF, THE SERVICE MANAGER, MR. B W. ADVISED THAT AFTER TAKING $1400.00 FROM MY FRIEND FOR "REPAIRS" THAT DID NOT EFFECT A REPAIR, THAT LONDOFF WAS GOING TO REPLACE THE "POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE" UNDER FACTORY WARRANTY, TO COMPLETE THE REPAIRS WHICH THE PREVIOUS REPAIRS DID NOT FIX. TO MAKE THE STORY SHORT, LONDOFF REPLACED THE PCM AND THROTTLE BODY / PEDAL FOR MRS. X, AND NOW 30 DAYS LATER, THE CAR ONCE AGAIN STALLS IN THE FAST LANE - IN THE RAIN, AS HUGE TRACTOR TRAILERS CAME BARRELING DOWN ON HER AT HIGH SPEED AT NIGHT. I FEAR FOR BOTH MY FRIENDS LIFE AND HER SAFETY IN THIS ' 05 MALIBU. WE TOOK THE CAR IN AGAIN TODAY FOR THE 4TH REPAIR OPPORTUNITY FOR LONDOFF, AND "MR. W" REFUSED TO GUARANTEE TO MAKE GOOD ON THE 12 MONTH, 12000 REPAIR WARRANTY, AND REFUSED TO PROVIDE EITHER A LOANER OR A RENTAL AT GM'S COST SO MRS. X COULD MAKE IT TO WORK NEXT WEEK. ESSENTIALLY, THESE MEN CONTINUE TO "JACK UP" THIS POOR WIDOW WOMAN, TAKING MORE AND MORE OF HER MEAGER SUSTENANCE WITHOUT EFFECTING REPAIRS!!!! MRS.X'S LIFE, HER JOB, HER HOME, HER CREDIT, HER CHILDREN'S COLLEGE EDUCATION IS THREATENED BY GM / LONDOFF'S FAILURE TO PROPERLY REPAIR THIS VEHICLE. WHILE DRIVING HOME IN MY 2005 CHEVY MALIBU CLASSIC I HEARD A LOAD POPPING SOUND AND SMOKE CAME ROLLING FROM UNDER THE HOOD. I THOUGHT AT FIRST THAT I HAD BLOWN THE TIRE OFF THE RIM SINCE I COULD SMELL LIKE BURNT RUBBER AND SEE THE SMOKE BUT THIS WAS NOT THE CASE. I LOOKED DOWN AND SAW ALL THE GAUGES LIT UP AND THE ENGINE HAD DIED. I COASTED TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND CALLED THE FIRE DEPARTMENT BECAUSE THE CAR WOULD NOT STOP SMOKING AT FIRST. BY THE TIME THEY ARRIVED IT HAD STOPPED BECAUSE THE OIL HAD BURNED OFF OF THE MOTOR. AFTER HAVING THE CAR TOWED HOME AND THEN TO A REPAIR SHOP THE NEXT DAY IT WAS DISCOVERED THAT THE CAP CAME OFF OF THE END OF A ROD WHILE THE PISTON WAS IN THE UP POSITION THE FUEL INSIDE FORCED THE PISTON DOWN CAUSING IT TO BLOW A HOLE IN THE SIDE OF THE MOTOR. HOW OR WHAT CAUSED THAT CAP TO COME OFF CAUSING THIS ISSUE? I NOW HAVE TO TRY AND LOCATE A MOTOR TO REPLACE THE ONE CURRENTLY DESTROYED. *TR
I OWN A 05 PRE-OWNED CHEVY MALIBU THAT WAS IN PRESTINE CONDITION WHEN BUYING. AFTER HAVING FOR ABOUT 6 MONTHS THE FUEL GAUGE STARTED ACTING ERRATICALLY AND THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT STAYS ON AS A CAUSE OF THIS ISSUE. I WAS TOLD IT WILL COST ME $800 TO FIX THE ISSUE. ALSO THE AIR CONDITIONING UNIT HAS GONE OUT DUE TO A FAULTY PART (TOLD BY A MECHANIC). I GOOGLED THIS ISSUE AND SO MANY OTHER PURCHASERS OF THE SAME VEHICLE ARE HAVING THE SAME ISSUES WITH THE AIR CONDITIONING AND THE FUEL GAUGE. THIS IS NOT RIGHT AND GM HAS TO KNOW THAT THESE PARTS ARE FAULTY. THE CAR WILL SHUT DOWN WITHOUT WARNING. I HAVE EXPERIENCED THIS WHEN ACCELERATING, BRAKING, AND WHEN DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD WITH NEITHER ACCELERATION OR BRAKING. I HAVE RESEARCHED THIS ON LINE AND IT SEEMS LIKE A LOT OF PEOPLE ARE EXPERIENCING THIS WITH NO KNOWN RESOLUTION TO THE PROBLEM. EVERY INCIDENT WHERE I SEE IT REPORTED, THE INDIVIDUAL HAS NOT HAD A FIX. THE FIRST INCIDENT WAS 3 WEEKS AGO, THEN LAST NIGHT, AND AGAIN THIS MORNING. ELECTRONIC PROBLEM . CAR STALLS WHEN DRIVING DOWN ROAD. GAUGES,WINDOWS,RADIO,HEAT,AIRCONDITIONING ALSO DON'T WORK PROPERLY WHEN THIS HAPPENS. NOT SAFE WHEN DRIVING, WE HAVE TO COAST CAR OFF ROAD TO GET STARTED. SOMETIMES IT WILL START RIGHT AWAY AND SOMETIMES IS DIFFICULT TO GET STARTED. TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 CHEVROLET MALIBU. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 45 MPH, THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO DECELERATE AND THE BRAKES STIFFENED. THE VEHICLE THEN STALLED AND THE REAR WHEELS LOCKED. THE ENGINE WILL RUN, BUT THE VEHICLE FAILS TO MOVE. THE FAILURE OCCURS EVERY TWO DAYS. IN ORDER FOR THE VEHICLE TO BE DRIVEN, THE CONTACT MUST WAIT APPROXIMATELY ONE HOUR BEFORE SHE CAN RESTART THE VEHICLE. THE DEALER WAS UNABLE TO DUPLICATE THE FAILURE. THE CURRENT MILEAGE IS 39,000 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 35,000.

RE: 2005 CHEVY MALIBU SEDAN LS. (1). ON 2-11-07, CAR STARTED HARD; ACCELARATED POORLY & RAN ROUGH AT IDLE, W/'CHECK ENGINE LIGHT' FLASHING; IGNITION SWITCH MODULE WAS REPLACED (20,234 MILES). (2) ON 2-25-07, CHECK ENGINE LAMP WAS ON; A NEW CATALYTIC CONVERTER WAS ORDERED (20,554 MILES). *NM
DT*: THE CONSUMER STATED THE ENGINE STALLED WITHOUT PRIOR WARNING. WHEN THIS OCCURRED THERE WAS A LOSS OF ALL POWER AND NO WARNING LIGHTS ILLUMINATED. THE CONSUMER WAS DRIVING AROUND A SHARP CURVE WHEN THE ENGINE STALLED AND LOST CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE. ALTHOUGH THERE WAS A CRASH, THERE WERE NO INJURIES OR DAMAGE TO THE VEHICLE. THE POLICE WERE NOT CONTACTED. THE VEHICLE WAS SEEN BY A DEALER, BUT THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT WAS UNABLE TO DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM. IN ADDITION TO THE STALLING PROBLEM, THE TRUNK LID LEAKED ALLOWING RAIN TO ENTER THE TRUNK COMPARTMENT. THE TRUNK CARPETING WAS REPLACED, BUT THE TRUNK LID CONTINUES TO LEAK. PRIOR TO THE PROBLEMS, THE VEHICLE WAS EXPOSED TO A HURRICANE BUT DID NOT HAVE ANY FLOOD DAMAGE. *JB
CAR IS LESS THAN TWO WEEKS OLD AND UNDER 400 MILES ON THE ODOMETER. CONSTANT STALLING AND EVENTUALLY DIFFICULT TO START. CAR HAD TO BE TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP. DEALER SERVICE DEPT HAS DETERMINED THAT THE MASS AIRFLOW SENSOR IS DEFECTIVE AND NEEDS TO BE REPLACED. AWAITING DELIVERY OF REPLACEMENT PART. *NM
