Owner-Reported Issues (20 of 171)
Electrical System →4 issues
In warm weather, your car starts but then immediately shuts off and displays a "check starter system" warning. When this happens, all electrical systems go out, including your brake lights, turn signals, and air conditioning. This could leave you stranded and unable to signal other drivers.

Your 2019 Tiguan suddenly lost all electrical power while driving on the highway, causing the engine to shut off and disabling steering, air conditioning, and other systems. The dealership identified a faulty ignition switch (part number 5Q1 905 865) as the cause — the same part Volkswagen is currently recalling in nearly 50,000 Jettas for the same failure. The dealership replaced the ignition switch but reinstalled the same recalled part number, meaning the defect could happen again. Fixing this would typically involve replacing the ignition switch with a non-defective unit.

When temperatures are hot outside, your car displays a warning about the starting system, then all electrical components suddenly shut down—including your dashboard, radio, and exterior lights. This suggests a thermal shutdown of your electrical system during warm weather. The issue likely involves your battery or electrical connections and may require inspection and potential replacement of the battery or alternator.

Your car's electrical systems shut down while driving in hot weather, disabling the headlights, taillights, instrument panel, and other electrical functions while displaying a starter fault warning and beeping alarm. The problem occurred repeatedly every 2-3 minutes, forcing you to pull over and wait for the engine to cool before driving again. Your dealer couldn't reproduce the issue or identify the cause, and the vehicle wasn't repaired. The ignition switch may need to be replaced or inspected for heat-related failure.

Unknown Or Other →3 issues
Your car has shut off twice while you're driving it, and a warning message appears telling you to check the starter system — but only when the car sits in the sun. Two mechanics have been unable to find the cause. This could be a heat-related electrical issue with the starter or battery connections that becomes active in hot conditions.

Your car hesitates for several seconds when you press the gas pedal from a complete stop, such as at traffic lights or when merging onto roads. This delay creates a safety hazard when you need quick acceleration, and multiple repair shops have been unable to fix it even though no warning lights appear. The issue may involve fuel delivery, transmission response, or engine control systems, and a technician will need to diagnose why acceleration is delayed.

Electrical System, unknown Or Other →2 issues
Your car's starter system failed while you were driving, causing the engine to shut off and cutting power to your gauges, lights, radio, and AC. This happens repeatedly when parked in hot weather or with the heater running for extended periods, and a dashboard message warns to "check the starter system." The car restarts fine when parked in shade. Replacing the ignition switch has resolved this issue for other Volkswagen owners experiencing the same problem.

Electrical System,lane Departure,forward Collision Avoidance →1 issue
Your Tiguan's electrical system may shut down when temperatures exceed 70°F, causing your air conditioning, infotainment system, instrument cluster, headlights, turn signals, and brake lights to stop working—though the engine keeps running. This happens because a small fuse (polyfuse) in the ignition switch can fail in hot conditions, cutting power to critical safety systems like lane departure warning and forward collision avoidance. While you can still accelerate and brake, you lose essential safety features like brake lights and turn signals, making the vehicle unsafe to drive. The fix will likely involve replacing the faulty ignition switch assembly with an updated version.

Vehicle Speed Control, unknown Or Other →1 issue
Your car sometimes doesn't respond when you press the gas pedal from a stop or during driving. You may need to floor the pedal for several seconds before the car suddenly accelerates forward with a jerk. This has happened at traffic lights and while turning across lanes, creating a safety concern. The dealership inspected your car but found no fault codes or problems.

Electrical System,exterior Lighting →1 issue
On multiple occasions, your 2019 Tiguan displays a "Check Starter System" error and loses power to critical electrical systems—including instrument panel, brake lights, headlights, taillights, and backup camera—while driving. This happens on warm, sunny days within minutes of starting, and the ignition may not work properly or require excessive turning to restart. Cooling the car down (like parking in a garage) appears to temporarily resolve the issue. The fix likely involves diagnosing and replacing the faulty ignition switch or related electrical starter components.

Visibility →1 issue
Your rear sunroof glass panel shattered unexpectedly while driving at highway speed (68 MPH), creating a loud booming sound and ejecting glass shards into the cabin. You temporarily wrapped the roof with plastic to prevent additional glass from falling while driving. The cause of the shatter hasn't been determined, and the dealer has not offered assistance. Fixing this will likely require replacing the entire sunroof glass panel assembly.
