2018 Volkswagen Tiguan Transmission Problems

Car has multiple malfunctions. Has had noisy valvetrain, lack of power upon acceleration, has sputtered with a load on engine especially uphill. Car shut off completely while at 60 MPH and nearly caused a catastrophic collision with my whole family in the car.

Severe hesitation when trying to accelerate, most noticeable from a full or near stop. Pulling out quickly into moving traffic often results in moments of no acceleration at all. It can be frightening and potentially dangerous.

There is an initial hesitation from a stopped position that could lead to an accident when pulling out into traffic.

I am having several problems with my tiguan. The passenger seat detection sensor is very sensitive. I can place my phone or something very light on the seat and my car automatically starts to chime and the passenger airbag is turned on.

Car hesitates erratically and unpredictably when accelerating. It's most noticeably from a dead stop, but also at speed as well. Sometimes the car accelerates fine, but other times, when attempting to accelerate from a stop to cross a street in busy traffic, the car will just sit unresponsive for seconds and barely accelerate.

Since owing my 2018 vw tiguan, it has had an intermittent problem moving forward when I push on the throttle from a complete stop. Sometimes there is a delay of 2 to 3 seconds before the car moves forward. This is very dangerous and could cause an accident.

My wife called me panicked because her 2018 vw tiguan sel, with 8000 miles, cut out on her while slowly pulling into a busy intersection. She described the problem as if the car lost complete power for a few seconds, even though she did not have her foot on the break at the time, and the car was not able to accelerate.

From a stop, and at low speed, the vehicle hesitates very badly. At times, with the gas pedal to the floor, the car does not accelerate for 2-3 seconds or more--it just coasts. In other situations, the transmission does not engage at all, and the engine revs to high RPM.

There is all this hesitation when accelerating almost like a bucking or the engine is not getting enough gas/oxygen mix. Then you can press the gas pedal a quarter of the way down and the engine hesitates then throws the car into high gear and takes off. I have driven a lot of cars the past week even a vw touareg that did not act like this car does with the accelerator.

The first time this problem occurred was in April right after a routine maintenance check. The car was idling in a parking lot when the engine started to vibrate and a warning was displayed that said "Max Engine Speed 4000 RPM". The car was turned off and then back on.

Sporadic lack of acceleration when coming from a stop. When depressing Excelerator car sometimes stalls to accelerate. I feel that when this issue occurs it makes my car unsafe to drive.

I was driving on interstate 95 north in the fast lane ( at 70 MPH), when the "engine exceeds 4000 RPM" warning came on the dash board/system read out and the car lost power and started decelerating (to 40 MPH). I continued to push the gas pedal but the car came to a complete stop. I put on my flashers and restarted the car and coasted to the shoulder.

My vehicle displayed a sign stating that their was low coolant. I took it to the dealer around 14,000 miles and the pcm has been destroyed. The engine hasn't been getting coolant for some time.

In the first month of owning the vehicle, the fuel pump and fuel tank had to be replaced. Since then the vehicle has displayed intermittent loss of response to the accelerator pedal. This occurs when first shifting into drive, the vehicle will not respond to any input into the accelerator pedal.

The contact's daughter owns a 2018 Volkswagen Tiguan. The contact stated that while her daughter was driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle shook and decelerated abnormally. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, who determined that the vehicle should not be driven because the drive belt needed to be replaced; however, the part was on backorder with no ETA. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure but provided no assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 60,000.

On multiple occasions, while driving on the highway, subject vehicle displayed check engine light and EPC light at random intervals and an alarm saying exceeded 4000 came on. RPM's were not over 4000. Speed and acceleration severely limited making it dangerous to pull over on the highway in traffic. Had to pull car over and restart engine. This has happened numerous times. Also experienced shaking and skipping or missing of transmission. The car has also had the engine stall or stop when at red light or stopped forcing restart of engine.

Received Max RPM 4,000 warning while on long drive. Happened and had to restart car several times. Lost ability to accelerate. Also, when car was on cruise, started shaking

The contact stated that the EPC warning light illuminated, and a message was displayed on the instrument panel “Engine Speed - Max 4,000 RPM”. The contact stated that when the message was displayed on the instrument panel, the vehicle would decelerate to 15 MPH with the accelerator pedal depressed. The contact pulled over and turned off and restarted the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to the dealer; however, the failure could not be duplicated. The contact stated that she was informed by the dealer that the failure was a known issue and was due to a faulty transmission. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 92,000

I was travelling on highway, 55 miles speed , all of sudden voice came from engine and car lost power and came to 10 miles and accelerator was not working it gave me message on dash bord that RPM High. i moved the car towards edge of the road and shut it. after 5 minutes i started again and went to work. However its gave me same problem while i was coming home .my car has only 20000. miles and no other issue. its dangerous when car is moving with the flow of traffic and loose power and does not move.

We have same issue with our 2018 tiguan as many other people out there. After our first oil change we had engine oil light came on. Did not reported to dealer till after second oil change.

This vehicle has an erratic and often severe hesitation when accelerating, which makes it extremely dangerous to drive on the highway as the driver can not gauge the rate at which the car will speed up. It happens less frequently when driving under 40 miles an hour on a city street but is unpredictable at speeds above this.

When accelerating, engine does not respond accordingly. Engine hesitates to accelerate and will stay in the low rpms despite the pedal being full pushed in. After a few seconds(maybe 15-30sec), it will rapidly accelerate corresponding to where the pedal is.

On multiple occasions, subject vehicle displayed check engine light and epc light at random intervals, causing car to unexpectedly be limited to 4,000 RPM and unable to accelerate past 40mph. As a result, this put driver in extremely unsafe situations and endangered safety of passengers and fellow drivers, particularly on highway. First encountered at 34,000 miles on odometer.

Driving at 42-45 MPH on a 0% slope. Car initially maintaining about 1,300 RPM. Without changing speed, pressure on the accelerator, or incline of the road, transmission would shift down by 3-4 gears resulting in a jump in the RPM up to about 3,200.

Cars response to driver accelerator inputs is hesitant and erratic. Car motion is unpredictably when accelerating from stand still. The performance is not predictable and very without apparent external environmental factors.

9,000 miles and 16 months later of getting it, the car is failing to get enough power after full stops in red lights and mandatory stops. Seems like the gearbox is not making on time the downshifting, sometimes taking 3 seconds to react, imagine this in an intersection! This has put my family and as I have read many others too.

Transmission has loud knocking and whining sounds when accelerating. Slow to respond to power during passing, changing lanes or entering highways. Dangerous while crossing a highway from a stop sign.

When accelerating. It feels like the motor is vibrating too much like it's going to rip itself out. The car has only 3k miles.

Dangerous jerkiness and loss of power when shifting through first 3 gears. When coming out of a stop the vehicle experiences noticeable lag as it shifts through each gear. Engine revs, power drops, and then it suddenly jerks into gear.

PURCHASED A 2018 VW TIGUAN SEL IN FEBUARY 2018. BROUGHT TO DEALER TWICE (SO FAR) AND BRINGING IT BACKI TOMORROW. HAS STAYED IN SHOP FOR 5 WEEKS SINCE PURCHASE. SERIOUS HESITATION WHEN ACCERLATING. MY WIFE REFUSES TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE IN FEAR OF HER LIFE !! (AND SO AM I) THESE CARS MUST BE STOPPED BEING SOLD...WILL NOT BE LONG BEFORE SOMEONE IS KILLED....

The tiguan has been having issues with hesitation while shifting between 1st and 2nd gear. You can feel an immediate loss of power, loss of boost and a bucking feeling while it shifting. I've also driven another tiguan of the same year and the issue was present on that specific model too.

When starting vehicle (either cold or warm), vehicle has a several seconds hesitation when pushing down accelerator. Vehicle does not move, hesitates then lurches forward as if the vehicle is not getting sufficient power to move. Vehicle has been to the volkswagen dealer several times and they have been unable to repair.

The tiguan experiences severe and dangerous acceleration hesitation when accelerating from a stop or from very slow speeds. There is a significant delay between the accelerator being depressed and the car actually accelerating, which causes an extremely dangerous situation when attempting to merge with other traffic or enter a roadway from a side street.

GUESS I'M HAVING THE SAME ISSUE A LOT OF OTHERS ARE HAVING. SITTING AT A RED LIGHT AND HIT THE GAS AND NOTHING HAPPENS. SMELLS LIKE GAS INSIDE THE CABIN. IT'S BEEN IN SERVICE AT THE DEALERSHIP FOR 15 DAYS AND THEY HAVE NO IDEA WHAT THE PROBLEM IS AND NO ETA ON THE FIX. I PURCHASED THE CAR IN DECEMBER 2017.

There is weird turbo/engine sound coming from engine compartment. When engine is cold, cold start, you hear grinding type of noise. It is very loud.

The vehicle has a start/stop feature that is on by default and is dangerous when waiting to make a turn. It temporarily shuts the car down and restarts upon release of the brake pedal to move the car forward which causes severe hesitation in excelleration. To make matters worse the transmission in this vehicle jerks and hesitates.

The car does not get more than 316 miles to a full tank. It also feels like the transmission is jerking you forward which causes the car to be really sluggish. This is also dangerous when trying to pull out on a busy street.

When vehicle is in a cold state, ie not driven for several hours or overnight. Temperature between 45 to 60 degrees. When the vehicle is turned on, and shifted into drive, the transmission has a long delay in acceleration.

I was driving through neighbor and noticed car was running rough and shifting hard. I got it to 70 MPH and red exclamation point and epc light came on. The message was 'engine reached max RPM of 4,000'.

My car hesitates when accelerating at a complete stop. I press the accelerator to pull into traffic and it seems the car just doesn't want to go! This makes it very dangerous to drive period.

When accelerating from a stop in the 2018 vw tiguan it hesitates for approximately a few seconds before moving forward. This occurs at all times when accelerating into the lower gears 1-3. Once past gears 1-3 the vehicle operates normally.

When pressing pedal from a stopped position to accelerate the vehicle there is either a lag in response or no response causing the vehicle not to move when going from a stopped position to moving action into traffic. This has been noted at random moments, more noticeably when vehicle is first turned on. However, it has happened countless times when vehicle has been driven for several miles.

Tiguan 2018 hesitates to accelerate with a lapse of a few (3 or 4) second before the car finally accelerates after a full stop or from slow speeds.

Car bucks forward when coming to a stop from motion.( down shifts hard) and shifts into first gear really hard. This happens when stop/start is turned off. Its even worse when more than two people are in car.

Vehicles hesitates to start from a slow or dead stop. Will not accelerate as it should. Noticeable lag when shifting and accelerating.

When I'm giving gas/ accelerating, there is a "hissing-sound" coming from outside and more clearer and louder to the passenger side person position. Can hear it even clear if I roll down the windows. Sound starts coming anywhere from 0 - max MPH no matter which roads I drive in.
