WHEN DRIVING CAR THE ENGINE WILL STALL AND LOCK UP THE POWER STEERING. IT MAY HAPPEN 3-4 TIMES WITHIN IN 3 MILE DISTANCE. IT HAS BEEN TAKEN TO TWO DIFFERENT AUTO REPAIR SHOPS ONE OF WHICH DEALS ONLY WITH GERMAN MOTORS. THE PROBLEM CANNOT BE DIAGNOSED. AFTER REPLACING THE FUEL PUMP AND CRANK SHAFT SENSOR THE PROBLEM STILL EXISTS. THIS IS SO DANGEROUS TO DRIVE AS YOU DON'T KNOW WHEN IT WILL HAPPEN. PLEASE HELP WITH SUGGESTIONS AS THE MECHANICS AREN'T ABLE TO DIAGNOSE THE PROBLEM. THANK YOU

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 VOLKSWAGEN JETTA SPORTWAGEN. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 30 MPH, THE VEHICLE STALLED AND THE GLOW PLUG WARNING INDICATOR ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS COASTED TO A PARKING LOT AND WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER (JOE HEIDT VOLKSWAGEN, 515 ROUTE 17 SOUTH, RAMSEY, NJ, 201-327-2900) WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE HIGH PRESSURE FUEL PUMP CONTAINED PIECES OF METAL, WHICH CAUSED THE FUEL SYSTEM TO FAIL. ALSO, A DIAGNOSTIC TEST WAS PERFORMED AND THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE FUEL WAS BAD. THE FUEL PUMP SYSTEM WAS REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND STATED THAT THERE WAS NO RECALL. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 70,205.

WHILE DRIVING THE CAR TO WORK LAST THURSDAY (07/28/16) THE CAR STALLED AND ROLLED TO A STOP. I HAD IT TOWED TO MY MECHANIC AND HE INDICATED THAT THE FUEL PUMP AND POSSIBLY THE INJECTORS NEED TO BE REPLACED. THE CAR HAD JUST UNDER 1/4 TANK OF DIESEL FUEL AT THE TIME. THERE WERE NO ERROR LIGHTS OR OTHER INDICATION OF FAILURE. THE VEHICLE IS STILL AT THE MECHANIC, HE INDICATED THAT THE PARTS ARE $900 AND LABOR WILL BE ADDITIONAL. DEPENDING ON WHAT HE FINDS AS HE DOES THE REPAIR. HE INDICATED THAT THE INJECTORS MAY BE DAMAGED WHICH WOULD ADD AN ADDITIONAL $1000 FOR PARTS PLUS LABOR. I DIDN'T TAKE THE CAR TO VW BECAUSE I DON'T TRUST THEM. THE AC FAILED LAST MONTH AND THEY WANTED $1900 FOR THE REPAIR, I BROUGHT IT TO MY MECHANIC AND HAD IT REPAIRED FOR $800. THEY BILLED ME $200 TO TELL ME THE AC WAS BAD. THE CAR CURRENTLY HAS 40,000 MILE ON IT. I DON'T HAVE THE REPAIR INVOICES AT THIS TIME. UP TO THE TIME OF THE AC FAILURE ALL WORK HAS BEEN COMPLETED BY VW.

PUSHED CAR OUT OF INTERSECTION TO SIDE SHOULDER. CAR TOWED TO FOX VW OF ROCHESTER HILLS MI. VW AUTHORIZED WARRANTY CLAIM ON REPLACEMENT OF ENTIRE FUEL SYSTEM. REPAIR WAS COMPLETED AND CAR RETURNED. CAR SMELLED OF DIESEL IN THE INTERIOR COMPARTMENT. SMELL DID NOT LESSEN AFTER 1 WEEK EVEN WITH WINDOWS OPEN TO AIR OUT. RETURNED VEHICLE TO FOX VW. FOX VW STATED THAT THERE WAS A SPILL AT THE ACCESS TO THE FUEL PUMP SENDING UNIT UNDER THE SEAT. THE SPILL WAS CLEANED UP AND VEHICLE RETURNED. DIESEL SMELL WAS LESS. FAST FORWARD 3 MONTHS TO NOVEMBER 2015, RETURNED CAR FOR EXTENDED WARRANTY SERVICE FOR GLOW PLUG REPLACEMENT AT PURCHASING DEALER IN PENNSYLVANIA (THREE RIVERS VW), DEALER SERVICE TECHNICIANS DISCOVERED AND DOCUMENTED MULTIPLE FUEL SYSTEM LEAKS WITH INCORRECTLY INSTALLED COMPONENTS. FUEL WAS PRESENT ON TOP OF ENGINE, HIGH PRESSURE FUEL PUMP HOUSING AND FUEL FILTER HOUSING. TRAVELED IN THIS CAR WITH NEWBORN DAUGHTER AND 4YO SON MULTIPLE TIMES WITH LONG ROAD TRIPS IN THE TIME FROM THE FUEL SMELL COMPLAINT TO THREE RIVERS VW FINDING THE LEAKING FUEL. THREE RIVERS VW REPAIRED VEHICLE WITH AUTHORIZATION FROM VW AMERICA.

FOUR INJECTORS, THE FUEL RINGS, THE IGNITION COIL, AND THE WIRES WERE REPLACED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE WINDSHIELD WIPERS FAILED TO OPERATE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE WINDSHIELD WIPER MOTOR FAILED. THE WINDSHIELD WIPER MOTOR WAS REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. WAS ATTEMPTING TO ACCELERATE ONTO A HIGHWAY FROM AN ON RAMP. WOULD NOT ALLOW ME TO GO OVER 25 MILES PER HOUR. BROUGHT TO NEAREST VW DEALERSHIP. WAS TOLD THE HIGH PRESSURE FUEL PUMP HAD ESSENTIALLY DISINTEGRATED AND THERE ARE METAL SHARDS THROUGHOUT THE ENTIRE FUEL SYSTEM, WHICH WILL NEED TO BE REPLACED. FUEL SAMPLE SENT TO VW FOR TESTING. AWAITING TO HEAR FROM DEALER WHETHER OR NOT THIS WILL BE COVERED UNDER WARRANTY.

THE SECOND TIME WAS APPROX 1 1/2 YRS AGO WHILE MY WIFE WAS DRIVING ON THE FREEWAY WITH 2 KIDS. THE FIRST TIME WAS APPROX 3 YRS AGO.

TEST RESULT SAID INSUFFICIENT LUBRICANT IN FUEL, THEREFORE REPAIRS NOT COVERED UNDER EXTENDED WARRANTY. DEALERSHIP INFORMED US THAT WE NEEDED TO BE USING "TOPTIER" DIESEL. WE RESEARCHED THIS (HAVING NEVER BEEN TOLD THIS BEFORE) AND REALIZED WE HAD PURCHASED DIESEL FROM A "TOPTIER" LISTED STATION (SHELL). DEALERSHIP TOLD US TO MAKE A CLAIM WITH OUR INSURANCE COMPANY SINCE IT WAS AN "OUTSIDE INFLUENCE" THAT CAUSED THE FAILURE. INSURANCE COMPANY IS INVESTIGATING WHETHER OR NOT THIS IS A VALID CLAIM.

I BELIEVE THAT THE COMPLAINT WAS CLOSED TOO EARLY BY THE NHTSA AND IS NOT DUE TO MISFUELING AS YOU HAVE BEEN CONVINCED BY VW BUT RATHER A DESIGN FLAW IN THE HPFP. OUTSIDE TEMP WAS 3 DEGREES F, APPROX 0730 ON 16FEB15 I HAD BEEN ON SHIFT THE CAR HAD NOT BEEN STARTED FOR 48 HRS. I STARTED THE CAR, AND WENT BACK INSIDE THE WORK BUILDING FOR APPROX. 5 MIN. WHEN I WENT BACK TO THE CAR I NOTICED A LARGE FLUID SPILL EMANATING FROM THE BOTTOM OF THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT. I IMMEDIATELY TURNED OFF THE VEHICLE. AFTER REQUESTING ASSISTANCE FROM A CO-WORKER IT WAS DISCOVERED THAT WHEN THE IGNITION SWITCH WAS ACTIVATED LARGE AMOUNTS OF DIESEL FUEL WAS SPURTING FROM THE TOP-FRONT PORTION OF THE FUEL PUMP. THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN LEFT OFF, IS CURRENTLY AWAITING TOW, DIAGNOSTIC AND REPAIR ESTIMATES. *TR

CAR TAKEN TO DEALER AND CONFIRMED THAT THE HPFP FAILED AND SENT METAL DEBRIS INTO THE FUEL SYSTEM WHICH CONTAMINATED ALL OTHER FUEL SYSTEM COMPONENTS (PUMPS, LINES, FILTERS, HOUSINGS, INJECTORS, ETC.) VW CUSTOMER CARE PROVIDED EXCELLENT SUPPORT DURING REPAIRS WHICH REQUIRED REPLACING ALL COMPONENTS IN THE FUEL SYSTEM. THIS IS BEING REPORTED FOR TRACKING PURPOSES. *TR

WAS DRIVING MY CAR ON A 2 LANE ROAD WHEN IT BUCKED AS IF IT HAD A CYLINDER GO DEAD FOR JUST A SECOND. NOTE: THERE IS NO WARNING WHEN THIS IS OR DOES HAPPEN. IT JUST DOES IT.... BUT IT WAS HIT AN MISS. I LOOKED AT THE DASH PANNEL AND SEEN THE GLOW PLUG LIGHT FLASHING, CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WAS ON AND THE MESSAGE CENTER SERVICE ENGINE NOW. I WAS 40 MILES FROM THE CLOSEST VW DEALER. SO, I HEADED TO THE CLOSEST AUTO PARTS SHOP TO SEE THE CODES IT HAD PRODUCED. P1007, P0088 AND P0087 ARE THE ONES I REMEMBERED. THE CAR WAS RUNNING BUT OBVIOUSLY NOT GOOD. IT LACKED ANY POWER,COULD BARELY PULL ITSELF UP A HILL UNLESS YOU DOWN SHIFTED. IT FINALLY DIED AT A INTERSECTION AND WOULD NOT RESTART. I GOT MY TRUCK AND TRAILER AND TOWED IT TO THE DEALER WHO STATED IT HAD SUFFERED HIGH PRESSURE FUEL PUMP CATISTROPHIC FAILURE.... WHEN THEY CALLED THEY STATED IT WAS GOOD AND BAD NEWS. BAD NEWS IT WAS GOING TO BE 2-3 WEEKS IN THE SHOP. GOOD NEWS IS, THERE IS SO MUCH DAMAGE (6500.00) WORTH THAT VW IS PAYING FOR ALL THE REPAIRS PLUS I HAVE A LOANER CAR. THE WHOLE FUEL SYSTEMS HAS TO BE REPLACED. 1 IN TANK FUEL PUMP AND PRE HIGH PRESSURE FUEL PUMP AND THE PRIMARY HPFP THE ONE THAT SELF IMPLODED THE INJECTORS, AND ALL THE FUEL LINES AND FILTERS. REASON IS THE METAL PARTS THAT FLOATED THRU THE SYSTEM COULD BLOCK ANY PART OF THE FUEL SYSTEM OR BE HUNG UP AND IF SO, COULD RETURN TO THE FUEL TANK AND BE PUMPED BACK IN. WITH SUCH CLOSE TOLERANCES ANY THING COULD INTURN RE-DESTROY THE SYSTEM SO TOTAL REPLACEMENT IS REQUIRED. THIS WAS THE FIRST TIME IN 35 YEARS I WAS LEFT ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. DRIVING THE CAR AT FREEWAY SPEEDS PRIOR TO TAKING THE EXIT. WHEN WE TOOK THE EXIT, THERE WAS A SUDDEN LOSS OF POWER AND THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT GO OVER 1000 RPM. THE VEHICLE WAS LIMPED TO THE SHOULDER WHERE IT DIED AND WOULD NOT RESTART. VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE MECHANIC SHOP WHERE THEY ARE IN THE PROCESS OF REPAIRS. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 VOLKSWAGEN JETTA. THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING 65 MPH THE ENGINE STALLED WITHOUT WARNING. THE LIGHTS ON THE INSTRUMENTAL PANEL ILLUMINATED AFTER THE FAILURE OCCURRED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHO PERFORMED A DIAGNOSTIC TEST THAT LOCATED THE FAILURE IN THE FUEL SYSTEM. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE DEALER REPLACED THE FUEL LINES, PUMP, AND THE FUEL TANK. THE CONTACT STATED THE ENTIRE FUEL SYSTEM WAS REPLACED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 14,299.

BOUGHT MY JETTA TDI NEW 4 MONTHS AGO. FILLED UP WITH DIESEL ON A MONDAY MORNING AND HAD DRIVEN APPROXIMATELY 70 MILES BEFORE I HAD THIS PROBLEM. WAS DRIVING HOME TUESDAY (AT 60MPH) WHEN SUDDENLY LOST ACCELERATION AND GLOW PLUG LIGHT STARTED FLASHING. WAS ABLE TO LIMP TO A VW DEALERSHIP ABOUT 1 MILE BACK BUT CAR WOULD NOT ACCELERATE ABOVE 35MPH. THE NEXT DAY THE DEALERSHIP GAVE THE DIAGNOSIS OF WATER IN THE DIESEL AND TOLD ME "EVERYTHING THAT THE DIESEL HAD TOUCHED" WOULD HAVE TO BE REPLACED (FUEL TANK, LINES, FILTER, ETC.) .THEY SAID THE VW WARRANTY WOULD PAY FOR IT THIS ONE TIME BUT IF IT HAPPENED AGAIN I WOULD BE RESPONSIBLE FOR THE OVER $5000 COST. WHEN I ASKED HOW I COULD AVOID THIS IN THE FUTURE I WAS TOLD I JUST NEEDED TO PURCHASE MY DIESEL FROM A "REPUTABLE" PLACE. (SERIOUSLY!!! DO THEY THINK I AM BUYING "BUBBA'S HOME BREWED BIODIESEL" ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD OR SOMETHING???) I REPORTED TO THE TEXAS DEPT OF AGRICULTURE THAT THE VW DEALERSHIP WAS CLAIMING THE DIESEL I HAD PURCHASED ON MONDAY HAD WATER IN IT. THE TDA PROMPTLY CAME OUT AND INVESTIGATED THE STATION WHERE I PURCHASE FUEL AND REPORTED TO ME THAT THEY FOUND NOTHING WRONG WITH THE DIESEL. THIS SOUNDS TO ME LIKE A MAJOR OVERSIGHT ON THE PART OF VW IF THERE IS NO WAY TO AVOID SUCH A POTENTIALLY DANGEROUS AND COSTLY PROBLEM. I TRADED A MUCH NICER AND MORE COMFORTABLE SUV FOR THIS JETTA IN AN ATTEMPT TO SAVE $$$ ON FUEL. I THINK I'VE MADE A HUGE MISTAKE. *TR

LOSS OF POWER WHEN ACCELERATING AWAY FROM A STOP SIGN ON A LARGE BUSY INTERSECTION. WEATHER CONDITIONS WERE LIGHT RAIN TEMP IN THE 70'S. CONTINUED TO DRIVE FOR SEVERAL MILES AT SLOWER SPEEDS (ABOUT 40 MPH). NOTICED A DASH WARNING LIGHT WAS ALSO FLASHING, SOMETHING ABOUT A GLOW PLUG. ALL GAUGES LOOKED NORMAL. SEVERAL DAYS LATER NOTIFIED THE VW DEALER OF THE OF THE CONDITION THE CAR WAS TO GET THE 20,000 MILE SERVICE. SERVICE PERSON SAID HE WOULD CHECK IT OUT. CALLED NEXT DAY TO ASK IF I HAD USED BIO DIESEL FUEL. REPLIED I HAD NOT AND THE SAME FUEL IN THE TANK HAD BEEN UN USE WHEN THE POWER LOSS WAS NOTICED. CALLED NEXT DAY TO REPORT PARTS WERE ON ORDER.GOT CAR BACK ABOUT 5 WEEKS LATER AND CAR WORKS OK. SAID THEY FOUND PARTICLES OF METAL IN THE FUEL SYSTEM. CHANGED THE FUEL PUMP AND A BUNCH OF OTHER FUEL SYSTEM PARTS ON WARRANTY. *TR

ON 9/9/2011 WHILE DRIVING ON CA 91 FWY, I STARTED NOTICING ABNORMAL DROP IN THE FUEL TANK, BY MONITORING MY DASHBOARD, AT THE TIME I HAD HALF TANK OF FUEL. I STOPPED THE CAR ON A SAFE LOCATION, AND DISCOVERED A FUEL LEAKAGE UNDERNEATH THE TRUNK. THE FUEL WAS COMPLETELY DRAINED, AND I HAD TO CALL FOR VOLKSWAGEN ROAD SIDE ASSISTANCE TO TOW THE VEHICLE TO THE NEAREST DEALER. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A VOLKSWAGEN DEALER IN GARDEN GROVE, CA. THE DEALER INVESTIGATED IT THE PROBLEM, AND ACKNOWLEDGED THAT THE PROBLEM WAS DUE TO PROBABLE ASSEMBLY LINE FAULT. THE DEALER ORDERED NEW PARTS, AND FIXED THE PROBLEM, UNFORTUNATELY, THE FUEL SMELL STILL EXIST, BUT I CAN'T SEE LEAKAGE. *KB

IN RUSH-HOUR TRAFFIC IN BOSTON THE DRIVER'S FOOT WAS ON THE ACCELERATOR WHEN THE CAR STOPPED MOVING IN THE MIDDLE OF THE HIGHWAY. LUCKILY, THE AMBULANCE AND POLICE ARRIVED PROMPTLY AND WERE ABLE TO GET THE CAR OFF THE ROAD. THEN IT WAS TOWED TO THE NEAREST VW DEALERSHIP. THE CARS DIAGNOSIS WAS A FUEL PUMP COLLAPSE. THIS WAS HARD TO BELIEVE SEEING AS WE HAVE ONLY OWNED THIS BRAND-NEW CAR FOR ONE MONTH.

1 RECENTLY PURCHASED A (2011) VW JETTA AT "CHAPMAN VOLKSWAGEN" IN TUCSON, ARIZONA.IT SEEMED TO RUN WELL THE FIRST DAY I DROVE IT,BUT ON THE SECOND DAY OF PURCHASE I MADE U-TURN TO PROCEED ONTO THE HIGHWAY AND IT MYSTERIOUSLY DECELERATED. I PULLED THE VEHICLE OVER AS I WAS GOING ONTO THE ON-RAMP AND NOTICED THAT THE LOW FUEL LIGHT WAS LIT. WHAT STUCK ME AS BEING MOST PECULIAR WAS THAT THE REGULAR FUEL GAUGE WAS READING NEARLY HALF FULL. THE VEHICLE DID NOT STALL AND THE GAUGE RETURNED TO NORMAL FUNCTIONING, BUT IT LEFT ME WITH QUESTIONS ABOUT THE SAFETY OF THE VEHICLE. I WAS WONDERING IF OTHER SIMILAR VEHICLES HAD SIMILAR ISSUES AND IF THEY WERE RESOLVED. THE REPRESENTATIVES AT THE DEALERSHIP ARE NOT RETURNING MY CALLS AND HAVE OFFERED NO EXPLANATION FOR THE INCIDENT. *TR
