2017 Ram 2500 Electrical Problems

C4B 2017 Ram D2 DD DF DJ DP Hydraulic C / Not Available We are at Risk everyday Yes Confirmed Recall and Problem Yes inspected by Ram Dealer & CarMax The warning lights and the noise constantly goes off and they’ve been happening since a few days after we purchased the vehicle and the dealership that we purchased, the vehicle knew about the problem and never fixed it until this recall which they’re still not fixing for us.

The check engine light came on and I took the vehicle to the Ram service center. The tech said the turbo actuator caused the light to go on. He reset the computer and said to bring the vehicle back if it comes on again.

Grid Heater bolt failure. Grid heater bolt is secured by a nut below intake area. The nut on bolt melts and causes pieces and shards into cylinder #6 if not fixed immediately.

Issue a recall here! Many others are reporting this identical issue and a class action suit has been filed! ABS sensor light and chime comes on at random times.

My truck has a failure of the ABS system to include the cruise control. This failure has resulted in the brakes locking during slick conditions and the vehicle to slide. I was not going fast so there was not crash.

The service light for a electronic Brake System as well as the light for Electronic ABS system started blinking on and off numerous times. I called the dealer to make an appointment and had to wait 2 months to get it in for service. When I got it in for service they told me the issue.

While driving the light and warning signal for the ABS Brakes and Traction Control go on and off intermittently. Another indicator comes on that says the ABS brakes need servicing. This can happen at almost anytime.

2017 RAM 2500 has known issue with Antilock Brake Unit Hydraulic Controller - This prevents brakes from operating correctly and traction control / speed control is disabled - Confirmed diagnosis with dealer - Vehicle has current Mopar Vehicle Protection (service plan) but part is unavailable to be ordered - RAM dealer stated vehicle does not pass state safety inspection. RAM Care case submitted.

Wire pinched between spare tire and body was shorted out and caught the spare tire on fire. Truck had been parked for over 7 hours. Was told all wires leading to the back are on fuses and should have broken the circuit before a fire began.

ABS System Module/System Brake Failure Unsafe and Can not drive anymore The problem was produced December 5, 2024 and they have refused to fix the recall. The problem has been inspected by several local dealerships as well as team Dodge ram and Chrysler Corporation There is warning lights that actually accelerate and go off every 60 seconds as you’re driving.

Truck has had two ABS units replaced under warranty for the code C0020-01. Now a year after the last replacement the code has come back and needs the ABS unit replaced again. FCA knows there is an issue with these and continue to sell and install parts that they know will fail.

Problem #1- I had to replace the ABS module and HCU on this truck at about 10k miles. (this was completed under warranty). Then at 50k miles truck was diagnosed with the same problem.

The ABS HCU has failed for the second time. This happened at 37,000 miles and has happened again at 61,000 miles. Factory mopar parts were installed after the first failure.

The service antilock brake system/ service electronic braking system lights began turning on and off intermittently around August of 2022. These would sometimes be prompted or exacerbated by wet driving conditions or bumps, but often just at random while driving. At the beginning of the issue, vehicle had roughly 48,000 miles.

While driving down hill with load, engine died with no warning lost brakes and steering.

My truck will lose all throttle response and brakes harder to stop accompanied by a service electronic brake system, service electronic throttle control, and electronic traction control warning. It only happens intermittently and sometimes will go a few weeks before doing it again. (The date below for incident is latest date it happened)

The contact owns a 2017 Ram 2500. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed and attempting to activate the cruise control, the system initially failed to engage. After several attempts, the contact was able to activate the cruise control; however, while attempting to deactivate cruise control, the system failed to disengage. After several attempts the cruise control disengaged. There was no warning light illuminated. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer or an independent mechanic to be diagnosed or repaired. After investigating the failure, the contact related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 18V332000 (Electrical System, Speed Control); but the VIN was not included in the recall. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 178,000.

This is related to recall C4B/NHTSA 24V-896. The ABS/ESC/Traction control warning lamps come off and on while driving. The recall states that this issue may cause a vehicle to crash without prior warning.

Illuminated warning lights: The ABS warning light, as well as service messages for the electronic brake control and anti-lock braking system, will turn And off. Check engine light will come on and off. Dinging sound and message on the screen: A persistent, intermittent dinging sound may accompany a flashing message on the instrument cluster indicating a system problem.

Odometer Fraud. The contact attempted to purchase a 2017 RAM 2500. It was discovered that there was a mileage discrepancy. The vehicle was a private sale. At the time of purchase, the vehicle mileage was 116,493, and at the time of registration, it was discovered that the mileage was 113,000.

This is my 2nd NHTSA complaint regarding this issue on my 2017 Ram 2500. Initial online complaint was done on 4/30/2022 regarding the trucks annoying and unsafe warning light indicating “Service Electronic Braking System” and amber ABS warning light. These warnings began on my truck in 2021 when it only had 12,000 miles.

ABS/electric braking system light... Had ABS pump motor and hcu replaced 2 times within 28 months at my costs..less than 60k on odometer

The illumination of the ABS light and traction control light. The light actives intermittently. The reported problem from a vehicle code reader is “ ABS pump motor control general electrical failure”.

ABS light goes on and off intermittently. Caused my truck wheels to lock up in fast stop maneuver. Dealer said ABS module needs to be replaced but there is no recall yet.

ABS and Traction control warning lights are on display. Cruise control and 4x4 will not engage due to this issue. Also causing malfunction while towing a trailer.

The vehicle has an intermittent ABS TCS warning that Dodge refuses to recall and fix. The warning light goes off incessantly it should be a recall and Dodge has known about the problem for 7 years at a minimum.

Service ABS Electronic Braking System Message, ABS as well as Traction Control light intermittently coming on and shutting off, Sometimes staying illuminated awhile then going back to coming on Intermittently. Took to shop and ran diagnostic trouble codes on truck. The trouble codes saying ABS/HCU Pump Module Electrical Failure.

2017 Ram 2500 ABS Pump Module was replaced before at 33,549 miles in May 2021 ABS and TCS Lights keep coming on now again at less than 49,000 miles. This is not an uncommon problem it seems, so I am adding my incident.

At approximately 101,000 miles, the service Electronic Braking system and service Antilock Braking system warnings began showing up intermittently on the dash. I have taken the vehicle to a dealership and have been quoted between $1,500 and $3,000 for repairs once parts are available, with a 6 month wait for parts. I was notified that parts had become unavailable in the second half of 2023.

•ABS pump motor control general electrical failure •no ABS or traction control •yes has been confirmed on a professional scanner •no •no lights until it went bad again Replaced the and/hcu in October of 2020 due to the dtc c0020-01 and all was fixed until June of 2024 and now the same code is back. Not wanting to replace the same part again just for it to go bad in 2 years.

Intermittent MIL stating ABS and TCS service required, started has been going on since I bought the truck in January 2023 at about 50k miles (currently about 75k). Often happens when driving over any sort of uneven terrain - bumps, potholes, seams between concrete and asphalt surfaces, milled asphalt surfaces, speed bumps, debris, etc. Dealer says the ABS module needs to be replaced, and that there are none available. With some research, this appears to be a common/known issue for Ram trucks, but no recall and no effort to even manufacture the part so it can be fixed, regardless who is stuck with the bill. When this light comes on, neither 4WD nor cruise control function, which can cause safety concerns - especially while towing.

Abs module and pump goes on and off about to put the third one on the truck and only has 74,000 miles

ABS module constantly going off and removes 4 wheel drive, parking assist, traction control, and and brakes

ABS module unit replaced while under warranty. Vehicle again with ABS warning on/off intermittently for at least the last several months...regardless of weather, speed, road conditions, etc. Comes on and off while driving, sitting in a parking lot...pretty much as soon as I turn on the motor it starts...goes off again for several minutes/hours/days, then starts doing the blinking and dinging again for no reason. While traveling, it turns off cruise control and I have lost 4 wheel drive when I've desperately needed it. This vehicle is only used for long distance travel or during snow storms. This is a safety issue, in my opinion. Causes operational malfunction and causes driver distraction.

ABS and traction control lights intermittently go on and off. Most of the time just by driving over a bump. Constantly going on and off. Many forums online about this related issue. Many talk about pump being replaced and not solving or the Hydraulic Control Module replaced and not solving and many talk about faulty electrical connections. Error code: C0020-01 ABS Pump Motor Control - General Electrical Failure

On my truck my ABS and traction control light came on as well as a message that say to service ABS system. The parts are on back order for a year now. This problem has surfaced on many Ram 2500's. I contacted the dealer and they don't have parts to fix if. When driving in wet conditions especially while towing a trailer the wheels lock up while breaking. I've been towing going down hill and have had to use a combination of engine breaking, downshifting and feathering the brakes to slow down. Chrysler Fiat should issue a recall on this issue since it happens to many Ram 2500. This started when I had only 38k miles on my truck. Chrysler fiat has issued a recall for the 2019+ trucks but not the 2014-2018 which have the same exact problem. I'm hoping you can help this matter.

Brake error and traction control error on dash. It is available for inspection. Not sure if it is safe but we have not options. This started several years ago. We have looked at ordering parts and tried to make appointment at dealer but parts were out of stock. We have not ever taken it in to the dealer as this happened literally 2 weeks after our warranty expired. No one has inspected it. There were not any other warnings prior and the vehicle seems to function but it is annoying driving it as the warning goes off all the time. I know they recently recalled newer Dodge Rams for this same type of issue but seem to be refusing to recall the older models for those of us that have been waiting and hoping nothing safety wise happens. It is a well knows issue and there are class action suits in other states.

Continue to get Service ABS and Service Electronic Braking System warning lights. ABS does not work when warning lights are on returns to normal when warning is off. no other detected issues with the braking system. It is displaying code: C0020-01

For the second time, my truck is repeatedly having "Service electronic braking system" message appear and disappear constantly while driving. This is mixed with "Service ABS system" message that also repeatedly pops up with a audible ding. The warning lights for traction control and ABS repeatedly turn on and off as well. This happens over and over the entire time while driving. We were on a family trip with our 1 year old when this started again most recently. We had to turn back around, drive home and swap trucks and everything in them as we can not have potential brake failure with our 1 year old in the vehicle. The trucks has just over 51,000 miles and this is the second time this has happened. The first time the truck was under warranty, so it was "fixed" by the dealer. I am no longer under warranty. The part to replace is unavailable online, and from what I am reading may be on a national back order with the dealers (I left a message with my dealer who fixed this last time under warranty- have not received a return phone call yet) The last time this was fixed I was told it was the ABS HCU which was replaced. I have looked this up since and learned that this is a known/common issue for the 2017-2018 HD Rams.

We too our 2017 Dodge Ram 2500 to Lenoir City Chrysler Dodge on January 11, 2024 because the Antilock Brake System (ABS) and Traction Control warning lights were coming on. The truck was in the shop for about a week. We were told initially that the part (electronic control module) was on order. Then we were told that the part was under redevelopment and that they did not have a date for when the part would be available. We do not know if the truck is safe to drive or not so we have not been driving it. All we want is to purchase the part so we can use a truck the cost us $43,000.

Traction control and ABS lights flicker on dash cluster. Possible ABS module failure. Parts on back order, I believe this is a safety hazard that needs to be corrected by a recall. This is a known issue that has yet to be resolved since 2017. That's unacceptable.

Service Antilock Brake System & Service Electronic Brake System on 2017 Ram 6.4 hemi

The contact owns a 2017 Ram 2500. The contact stated that the Service Electronic Braking System warning message had appeared on the instrument panel. As a result, both the remote electrical start and the cruise control features failed to operate as needed. The dealer acknowledged the failure but informed the contact that the part needed to repair the failure was unavailable. Once the part became available, the contact was given an estimate for the repair. The manufacturer was also notified of the failure and agreed to cover for part of the repair; however, once the part became available, the manufacturer no longer offered any financial assistance. The vehicle had yet to be repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 52,000.

The ABS and Traction control lights began to flash and the alarm began to come on intermittently in 2021. I took the truck to the dealer for repairs because the ABS, Traction Control and Cruise Control were not working. The repair cost was $1,00.00 at my expense.

ABS and traction control light came on, when faults were pulled, active fault # C0020-01. After contacting dealer, Service department stated it is due to faulty ABS module and Hydraulic control unit in 2017 and 2018 models. Parts are on national back order with no available ETA.

Picked up my truck from the dealership and my ABS, and traction control light came on, and I lost my ABS function and traction control. The my dash started flickering and it would go in and out. Now my heat also has stopped working.

Vehicle has about 60,000 miles. Has started intermittent service electronic brake and service ABS warning. Noticed alot of information online that this is happening more than a normal rate of failure.

A Hydraulic Control Unit malfunction resulting in multiple warning lamps flashing on and off intermittently - including the ABS, the EBS, the Traction Control, and the Cruise Control. This is apparently a known issue with this model year truck and is inclusive of a class action lawsuit, yet there has been no recall.

Anti-lock break system malfunctioning. This module has already been replaced once in 2021 by a dealership. Now the module is malfunctioning again and needs to be replaced.

The contact owns a 2017 Ram 2500. The contact stated while driving 70 MPH with the Adaptive Cruise Control engaged, the contact depressed the accelerator pedal to overtake another vehicle; however, after overtaking the other vehicle, the vehicle continued to accelerate independently.

ABS breaking failure/warning on an intermittent but ongoing basis. Specifically, repeated failures of anti-lock brake modulator valve that causes ABS system to not function properly. Sometimes the ABS warning light flashes on and off, sometimes it stays on for weeks.

ABS module and HCU. Very hard to stop and kicks off cruise control all of a sudden. It was replaced 1 year ago less than 7000 miles and it went out again

ABS pump failure intermittent loss of braking system and traction

The ABS module/HCU is faulty just like thousands of others who are reporting this same issue. Tested with an expensive scan tool by a certified mechanic AND the local dodge dealership in Greenwood SC. Dealership doesn't have the parts to fix it and can't tell me when parts will be available.

The HCU/ABS system in my truck is acting up and intermittent. Causing ABS to not work and making beeping noises on and off while driving. Also causes the cruise control to not work.

Failure of ABS pump module and ABS electrical connection has taken place and is available for inspection. This failure has caused failure of my ABS system, traction control system as well as my ability to use my trailer brakes when hauling which I have to do on a regular basis which in turn puts all drivers around me in danger as well as myself and any passengers I have while driving.

Electronic braking system warning,antilock braking system warning lights come on intermittently,dinging warning off,on.Talked to dealer last Oct.2022 no recall or parts available,spoke again Sept.2023 and same story,no parts,no recall.Stated that there should be a recall due the number of complaints.I use the truck as it was intended to pull trailers.Problem started at 36,000 miles,currently has 38,000 miles.

Electronic braking system and ABS lights intermittently come on and off an throws a code c0020-01 which many dealers say should replace the HCU and ABS modules and research has shown that this if a short-term fix on a fault component. Please hold ram to task.

HCU for ABS brake system has now failed for a second time. They can not even supply a part to repair. Now on back order hold til 02/2024.

While towing with my 2017 RAM 2500 the "Service electronic braking system" and "Service antilock braking system" began to intermittently flash on my gauge cluster/instrument panel. The message and lights would continually flash on and off while driving over various road conditions (rough, smooth, flat, inclines, declines).

My 2017 Ram 2500 Cummins pick-up truck started displaying symptoms of a bad HCU module several months ago, "Service Electronic Braking System" warning message, ABS dash light indicating loss of ABS, and Traction Control Light indicating loss of traction control, as well as kicking the vehicle out of Cruise Control when this set of condition lights are, albeit intermittently illuminated.

72,000 miles on vehicle. Received error messages - service electronic brake system and service ABS brake system. The error is intermittent and causes loss of ABS functionality and a potential safety hazard.

ABS control module and hydraulic control unit failing. Replaced components in 2021 and 2022 and failing again in 2023. This is a serious safety issue because if these units fail then it causes loss of antilock braking and speed control

At 9794 miles, warranty repair for Code C002001, failed ABS pump motor control, general circuit failure, replaced control module under warranty. Now the vehicle is having same issue at 37,XXX miles, and no longer under warranty. Screen constantly flashes "Service electronic brake system" and "Service ABS System" over and over.

My trucks ABS keeps cutting off, it’s operation is intermittent. This also disables the cruise control and traction control. I have researched this on this year and it’s a problem with many of doges trucks.

ABS Light and Anti Lock Break System Alarm and Light constantly goes off. The light an alarm started within one month of purchasing and the vehicle is over $40,000.. every shop that we have taken it to said that it’s something that the manufacture should fix it at some point it’s not safe because it is your antilock brake system.

My 2017 Ram 2500 has the ABS and HCU issues commonly found on these vehicles. To my Suprise the dealer cannot get the part due to how common this issue is the parts are on backorder. I have videos of the system failing while driving and the codes it is throwing.

Traction control/ ABS light consistently chiming on and off. Took to local dealer where I bought the truck from, diagnosed a bad ABS hydraulic control unit. They can’t get the part due to the amount of these rams needing this part replaced.

The Service Antilock Braking System warning and Service Traction Control warning illuminate regularly. There are no known problems with the systems but it is unknown if they will work when needed. The lights come on up to one time per second, and sometimes not for days.

2017 Ram 2500. ODO 77,000 miles While driving at any speed, warning lights and audible tones intermittently come on. Display reads "Service Electronic Braking System" and "Service ABS". ABS and Traction Control lights also illuminate on the dash. Sometimes the warnings will come on and off so fast that the truck is constantly chiming which is very distracting. Speed doesn't appear to be a factor. Sometimes the warning lights stay illuminated. Sometimes they go away. Sometimes they flash on a off rapidly. Truck has not been taken to the dealership yet but an appointment has been made and the dealer said it is most likely the ABS module and Hydraulic Control Unit that needs to be replaced. This sounds like a known issue. Safety issues I am concerned about are: Loss of ABS and traction control. Trailer braking system issues while towing (horse trailer). Distractions from audible alarm constantly chiming, loss of braking power.

Starting roughly a year from the date of this report, the vehicle would randomly issue a warning "Service Electronic Braking System" and turn on the Traction Control and ABS warning indicators; it would also disable Cruise Control. These errors would appear sporadically and persists for a few seconds to a few minutes. The dealer was unable to diagnose as the error was not actively triggered at the dealership. Over time, the error happened more often and persisted for longer time periods (minutes, hours, then days) but would eventually (and randomly) reset. It became clear that it was oftent triggered by a sharp jolt or a tight turn. Recently the error stayed on permanently and the dealer was able to retrieve an error code which led them to suspect a faulty connector. It took 6 weeks to get the connector and when the dealer attempted to install it they came to the conclusion that both the wiring harness and the connector are OK. They were able to retrieve additional error codes that pointed at the HCU (Hydraulic Control Unit) of the ABS system needing replacement. No HCU units are currently available. I have conducted extensive online research concerning this issue and the four symptoms: 1. "Service Electronic Braking System" message 2. Traction control indicated lit and traction control disabled 3. ABS indicator lit and ABS disabled 4. Cruise Control disabled and found that there are a large number of reports for RAM 1500 and 2500 models with mileage as low as 12,000 miles. This appears to be a wide spread failure of the HCU component that points at a flawed part that causes significant safety issues as it randomly disables both traction control and ABS functionality. RAM simply burdens the consumer with the cost of having to replace the HCU, sometimes multiple times as new units tend to fail again.

Hydraulic Control Unit failure on Ram 2500. This causes antilock brakes to stop working as well as traction control.

ABS pump electrical failure, repaired OCT.17/2020 by dealer. 11/20/2022 same problem. ABS light, traction control, and no Trailor brakes, or cruse. not sure what other problems exist.

Service Electronic Brake System and service Antilock Brake system light come on and off intermittently at random times. Some time on and off a few times faster then it can display the message. The Hydraulic Control Unit was replace one already. Reading online there are several 2017 and 2018 rams having this issue.

This issue was repaired by the dealer one year ago and it has happened again, they tried to charge me by pretending they didnt know about the previous repair. the internet is full with the exact same complaint and how is this not a recall to hold them accountable?? the service electronic brake system and ABS lights come on and off each time making annoying noises. when the lights are on the 4x4, cruise control and other items will not engage. the dealer agreed to repair it but told me to call in 5 months to see IFFFF any parts are available this not only shows its a wide spread problem but their incompetency to fix it. how do I know the second module they replace wont malfunction as well???

Under normal driving conditions I got the “SERVICE ANTILOCK BRAKE SYSTEM” message along with an ABS light, traction control light, loss of traction control, loss of cruise control functions and loss of 4x4 functions. This is a well known safety issue that needs to be addressed by the manufacturer. With ABS being a SAFETY feature required on all vehicles, it is only appropriate that this become a safety recall.

Purchased this vehicle 8 months ago and from what I have been reading online this is an ongoing problem with Dodge Ram 2500 and this ABS module electrical issue is considered the most expensive part fixing the Dodge Ram, so how is it fair to the consumer to have to pay 3,000 for an electrical issue less than one year ago and only 35,000 miles on vehicle. There are thousands of post with the same complaint on the same year truck with the same issue. The Dodge Dealership said today that it is a safety issue because when we go to use our brakes quickly or for Emergency they will not work and they could lock up. we bought this vehicle to tow our fifth wheel. It makes me feel unsafe and not fair to have to feel this way. These days we can barely afford our vehicles and homes more less to have to pay for an electrical issue that is the cause of Dodge Ram and there Manufacture Issue. They need to be responsible for there faulty parts.

The ABS light constantly beeps and flashes. It is available for inspection. We are not sure if it is unsafe.

I have a C0020-01(ABS pump motor control general electrical failure) code on my 2017 Ram 2500 truck with only 43,xxx miles. This code and mechanical issue was identified/confirmed by a Ram dealership. The ABS/traction control warning light started intermittently turning on, and then off about 1,000 miles ago and has continued until now.

Service Electronic Brake and ABS lights flash on with dash chime indicating failure while operating the vehicle. No code stored. Intermittent issue - after reading other complaints it appears that this is a serious issue across all Ram owners.

My 2017 ram 2500 had 55k miles when I got a dashboard warning indicating that service of my electronic braking system was needed. I also got warning indicators for ABS and traction control. I had poor braking, no traction control and no cruise control when these warning lights were lit.

Truck starts and dies , truck will not start if it sits for long period of time , no dash lights when this happens , takes about 40 mins to get the key to recognize/get started . When taken to the dealer ship a test was ran and said all things I describe (wrong key phobe, loss communication with igintation )

For the past month, I have had intermittent displays of "service electronic braking system" and "service antilock brake system". When this occurs, the cruise control becomes nonoperational. A check of the internet shows that these problems are widely experienced by dodge ram owners.

The contact took the vehicle to milton ruben chrysler dodge jeep ram (3508 washington rd, augusta, ga 30907, (888) 885-0415) to have the occupational restriction control module repaired after receiving a letter from the manufacturer. The dealer performed a reprogram update, which caused the seat belt alert not to function when they were unbuckled.

Continuous warnings and tones showing issues for anti lock brakes and stability traction control. In less than 3 months will be a year since the recall was announced and there is no remedy. This is a nuisance and safety issue and should absolutely be a priority to fix.

It does not matter if it is raining/wet or sunny, around a turn or straight the lights turn on and off on their whim. When the lights are on the truck has different braking characteristics than when the lights are off.

Service Electronic brakes and service ABS system along with ABS light, traction control light and cruise control wont work. First issue happened at 36,000 miles covered under warranty. Vehicle now has 53,000 miles and same issue is back.
