Owner Complaints (82)
While driving, your truck suddenly lost power and went into limp mode (reduced performance mode), with warning lights appearing on the dashboard. You're experiencing hard starts and the limp mode continues. The diagnostic codes point to a crankshaft position sensor issue, along with electronic throttle control and stability control warnings. You've already had sensors, throttle body, and filters cleaned without improvement. The repair may be temporary, potentially lasting only a year before the problem returns.

Your fuel pump shuts off prematurely while filling the tank, causing fuel to back up and spill out of the filler neck onto you, your vehicle, and the ground. It takes 15-20 minutes to fill the tank because the pump keeps clicking off instead of allowing fuel to flow consistently. This is caused by a faulty check valve and EVAP canister vent that aren't working properly. The fix will likely involve replacing the check valve and/or EVAP canister components to restore normal fuel flow during refueling.

A warning “Service Electronic Stability Control” is on and off when I’m driving. Brought it to local Ram Dealer but they said they can do anything about it.
While I was driving my vehicle, the power steering warning came on and moments later the steering wheel locked - I could not steer my vehicle. I stopped the vehicle and it started firing all sorts of warnings. It was like all systems went haywire. Service shifter, service power steering, service electronic stability control, acc/fcw unavailable, service required, service airbag system, collision control, check engine, anti-lock breaks. The windshield wipers started without being tuned on, the engine revved up an got very loud like an airplane engine. I turned off the vehicle. When the tow truck arrived, the truck would not start so he walked away to grab the pulley and the truck started on it's own. My biggest concern is that I lost the ability to steer while I was in motion. I was informed of a VB8 recall for power steering but told my vehicle didn't qualify. This is a serious concern! It is currently with the dealership.
I opened my passenger side front door. The running board deployed. When the running board contacted my shin it automatically retracted. However, my dog got his paw caught between the running board and the truck frame. The running board did not sense the obstruction. I had to hold my dog down to close the door and open it again to deploy the running board. My dog bit me in the process because he was scared.
Bolts in the 2nd flange on the exhaust before the muffler break due to manufacture issue. Causes an exhaust leak and an issue with the vehicle power.

I took my 2020 Ram 1500 EcoDiese to a Chrysler-Dodge-Ram dealership on 9/23/25 for the High Pressure Fuel Pump (HPFP) safety recall. I was told a part had to be ordered to complete the recall and gave me a rental vehicle. After a few days I contacted the dealership about my repair. They said the wrong part was ordered and the new one was in route. After about a week, I called the dealership again and I was told "the truck won't start and they were working with Stellantis to figure out why." Several more days passed, I called again, they stated that after the new pump was installed and the truck was started it "blew a rod," but they had fixed it, test drove it, and it would be ready for pick up the next day. I picked up the truck on 10/16/25 and drove less than 50 miles (first trip home from the dealership.) While traveling at highway speed on interstate 77 at night, the truck suddenly lost all engine power, a “throttle” warning message appeared, I noticed a strong odor of burnt oil, and I was only able to get from the left passing lane across to the right truck lane, only getting 2 tires on the shoulder (see pic). The truck would not start again, it just made a click-click-click sound. I jumped out of the truck as there was a truck in that lane coming toward me and ran into the woods to escape. I and the truck were nearly struck by traffic. This was a life-threatening situation. Luckily, a Courtesy Patrol saw me and blocked the lane with road flares. Eventually the truck was towed (had to be dragged on to the flatbed). At that time I noticed engine oil was splashed all over the underside of truck. It was towed to the same dealership. This catastrophic failure occurred hours after I was told it was safe to drive. This incident placed my life and the lives of other motorists at extreme risk. A recall intended to improve safety appears to have introduced a new, severe safety hazard. The truck has been at the dealership since 10/17/25 and I have not been updated since.
Exhaust manifold bolt broken causing exhaust gasses to leak in engine bay. Due to location of exhaust leak, it pulls exhaust gases into cab.
On multiple occasions while making a slow turn. My vehicle would shut off put itself in park and set the emergency brake. My truck does have the etorque and I see this is a known issue with etorques. I it happened a few times and I thought it was just a fluke but after my last incident I did some research and found out it is an issue.
Software issue with 12' display unit. The issues began occurring over the past several months. Sirius XM radio frequently searching for signal lasting for hours, and nothing else would play, not the radio nor the Pandora app with UCONNECT. The backup camera displayed on the screen when in D. Then, on 6/10/2025, the backup camera stopped working altogether. When shifted into R, 12' display shows a blue screen with "Camera System Unavailable." The camera control buttons are fixed in position. On 6/11/2025, the 12' display showed Sirius XM subscription update and left me with the Sirius preview screen even though I have a subscription. This lasted several hours. Upon, restart, Sirius shows loading again. Still no backup camera.
Currently Ram has extended its warranty on the back break light due to a leaking/sealant issue on certain models and years. The truck also leaks through the window frame that crakes in these vehicle's. It seems that maybe this isn't being looked at as a safety concern and think it should be. Water leaking in due to this issue is now causing stagnant water. I have 2 kids that sit in the back of the truck and have been subject to breathing in the mold that has built up. I believe the result of mold growth is a great safety concern. I have seen this complaint all over the internet and even on the 5th generation website. I think a full investigation on this should be done immediately. It also seems Ram is aware of the issue because they no longer install this window. We have always had the issue but never understood why the truck had a bad smell to it. It took a very long time to finally realize the smell was coming through the back window and into the cabin but behind the seats. My truck is a 2020 Dodge Ram Laramie 5th generation with less then 25,000 miles on it. I attached a list of webites that immediately pop up when you type Dodge back window leak
1. Safety Issue 1: Cracked Exhaust Manifold & Exhaust Leak Description: Loud knocking noise on startup, strong exhaust fumes entering cabin. Dealer Diagnosis: Both exhaust manifolds cracked, multiple broken bolts. Risk: Potential carbon monoxide poisoning, engine damage, and fire hazard. Dealer Response: Refused repair, quoted $3,500. No assistance from Chrysler. Pattern Failure: Online forums show many owners with identical issues—clearly a manufacturing defect. 2. Safety Issue 2: Dashboard Delamination & Toxic Fumes Description: Dashboard surface peeling, strong chemical odor in cabin. Risk: Toxic off-gassing causes headaches/nausea; peeling material obstructs visibility. Pattern Failure: Widespread reports for this model/year—faulty adhesive is to blame. Manufacturer Negligence: Chrysler and dealerships are aware but refuse responsibility, blaming "wear and tear." Exhaust leaks and toxic interiors are unacceptable safety hazards—yet no recall exists. Request to NHTSA: Investigate these defects for potential recall. Force Chrysler to acknowledge and repair affected vehicles. Urgency: Driving this vehicle is a health risk. NHTSA must act before more are harmed.
Leaking back glass, Soaked carpet, and a musty odor.
The vehicle exhaust gasket fails at 50,000 miles on the 2020 Ram pickup causing carbon monoxide to enter the cab when idling. This is very common on this particular truck. Ram has yet to issue a recall.
I was parked with my daughter in the truck and we heard a loud boom sounded like a gun shot. Then I looked my back window was shattered and the frame of the back window was cracked. I have researched this and found others who have had the same issue. Ram will not take care of it. My Mopar maximum coverage will not cover it. This very scary my daughter was in the back seat and glass went everywhere. I am a single father battling cancer and I do not know what to do.
I have a 2020 Ram 1500 pickup, and the rear window leaks on both side of the glass and runs down to the carpet and it is starting to smell really moldy. I took it into the ram dealership on 11-4-24, and they said they have had several complaints on this and said I could pay to have it replaced or they could put silicone around the glass to see if it stops the leak. I wasn't happy with this but I told them to go ahead and reseal it and they did. About a week later it was leaking again. I called Ram Cares both times and they told me that they have lots of complaints about this same issue as I'm having as well. Matter as fact my son also has a 2020 ram 1500 that leaks and my next door neighbor has a 2021 ram 1500 that is also is leaking. I took it back in 12-17-24 and they told me they were told by Ram to reseal it again. Again I'm not happy about this. I am hoping someone will make them fix this issue. I paid a lot on money for this truck to not be able to drive it in the rain or get sick in the process of the mold. If you do a google search, back in 2016 there was several complaints and they failed to address the issue since then. The Ram service lady said they changed it in the 2023 model, but not going to fix the older models because it would cost to much. They are trying to reseal it as putting a band aid over it and if they do stop the leak now someday down the road it will leak again from the sealant decaying and then they won't do nothing. Something needs to be done please.
Started vehicle in parking lot. Monitor did not come on, Put vehicle in reverse and still nothing, no image being displayed on console. After backing up and then selecting forward motion the display came on, but not until about 3 minutes of forward motion.
My backup camera screen freezes and glitches two or three seconds at a time while I’m backing up and I can’t see what’s going on.
When driving the visor becomes detached and obstructs view while driving. The passenger side also detaches which can also obstruct view.
It has been 2 years since this recall came out and still I get the run around at the dealer that a solution is not available. What I'm I supposed to do still not drive the vehicle or drive as little as possible. this is rediculous and I need this recall resolved emmidiately.
Vehicle randomly says "shift to park" after making soft turns like going in a uturn under a bypass . Once the speed drops under 5mph, the truck then puts vehicle in park, and turns off. Dealership could not find the problem. Mechanics are unsure. Ongoing for 3 years. Very unsafe.
The sun visor retention plastic broke. Now the sun visor falls down obstructing vision and view of oncoming traffic while driving. This happens frequently. Trying to place the sun visor back while driving is difficult. Trying to hold the visor out of your field of vision while safely controlling the vehicle to a stop is difficult. The falling down of the visor is a serious safety hazard to anyone near a vehicle with this malfunction.
I was driving back from Montana and my passenger side sun visor disconnected and was hanging from the wire causing a visibility issue when driving. Approximately 1 year ago the same thing happened to my driver side sun visor. This also caused problems with visibility while driving because it wouldn't remain in the locked position. It would hang by the wires. Both times I had the visor replaced at the Dodge dealership in Prescott Az. I was told my the service advisor that it has been a problem and they have had to replace quite a few. I asked if they have fixed the problem and he stated that it hasn't and its still the original parts. This is going to lead to a serious car accident or death if this problem isn't resolved by Dodge.
While driving on 3/29/24 I pulled the drivers side sun visor down to stop the glare from the sun. In doing so the post for the sun visor broke causing it to fall down into the line of view while traveling approximately 70 mile per hours. This caused an issue that could have caused a catastrophic accident causing injury to myself or others. A review of the internet shows that numerous people have had the same issues with the sun visors breaking. This issue need to have a recall issued to it to prevent someone from being seriously injured or even killed. A tooth pick had to be placed into the rod area to hold the visor up so that I would be able to move the vehicle safely. Thanks for you attention in this matter.
Water damage recently started in back ceiling of truck above rear window. Coming in from somewhere. Also notice a large crack in plastic all of a sudden. Online research is showing a lot of the same complaints of cracks and water damage. I do not see a recall though? I've only owned the truck for 8 months and this has happened within weeks.
Inside cab is getting moisture in it. Prior to noticing this we had battery drainage that causes truck not to turn on. They replaced radio they found it was drain battery. We continued to have battery drainage where it wouldn’t turn on after a full charge overnight. The truck would go to turn on but would only make clicking noises and wouldn’t shut down for 20 minutes even though wouldn’t start. Other times we’d turn off truck and it wouldn’t turn off. Now our truck is molding inside and front and rear windshield drip of moisture. The moisture drips onto dash and down the console. This could affect electrical components. There is less then 10,000 miles on it. We’ve had brakes jam up on us when we back up and there is nothing even close to us.
To Whom It May Concern, The issue I am reporting is that the drivers side of my cargo bin on my 2020 Ram Rebel is opening on its own. This has occurred many times while I was driving and most times, items inside the cargo bin have fallen out on the road. This issue is also taking place when the vehicle has been parked and locked, as I come out in the morning or return from an errand and the ride side drivers cargo bin is wide open. I have also had items stolen because of this. This shortcoming is now also killing my battery all the time, since after I jump the vehicle, I can hear the locking mechanism attempting to lock and unlock on its own. I feel this is a huge liability since the contents of the bin are sometimes landing in the roadway behind my truck. I contacted Crown Dodge in Ventura, Ca and they have stated they have never heard of this situation before. When I look on-line for similar complaints, many people are saying the exact same thing as their drivers side cargo bins are opening due to an electrical wire loom shortcoming. Some of these individuals have taken their trucks to their local Dodge dealers and they are changing the wire loom and adding additional weather protection to it to correct the issue. This situation, if not addressed will cause damage to vehicles behind the trucks if not accidents as the contents of the bin can immediately become unsecured and effect all vehicles behind it. I have now opened the top of my bin and disconnected the leads powering the lock switch and it seems to be working as the bin is locked all the time and I will now need to use my key to unlock it. This has also kept my battery from draining, but I feel the dealer should step up and correct this very dangerous situation on their own before the liability for accidents and/or damage is directed to the truck owners themselves. Please access u-tube "2020 Ram 1500 Ram Box Opens By Itself". These complaints began years ago. The drivers side sun visor has broken and is possible for it to fall onto the steering column while I'm driving, and also hits my head when it swings back and forth. I've read that this is a very common problem with the 2020 RAM.
Rear window leaking, just like on all the 5th gen rams. Causing water to get into the cab, causing mold, mildew, rot and moisture on the windows. Please create a recall this is affecting almost every single 5th gen ram
My tailgate opened during a 20 mile drive, much of it on interstate, while I had golf club bags in travel cases in the pickup bed. One of the cases unknowingly fell out onto the road. Fortunately this road was near my home and low speed, 2 lane. Someone stopped and picked them up since they saw them in the road. I am uncertain if my son just didn't properly latch the tailgate or if it came open after being latched but my primary issue here is that there is no warning light in my truck to warn me if my tailgate is open. Had there been I would have pulled over to close and latch it.
The rear window frame cracked causing water to leak slowly in and damage the trucks radio frequency hub. This crack is a known issue in 2019-2021 Ram 1500. There is a bulletin out somewhere about it. And what I’ve read is on an extended warranty called Backlite , which should be called window seal. I have seen this get covered and fixed because it is a known defect that the user did not cause. They covered the hub, which is required to start the truck and keep it running. That would be bad if it failed while driving. This crack needs to be covered. It won’t let me upload a picture of the crack, but I have one and how much they want to charge me to fix it. I was going to attach those.
I have a 2020 Ram1500 Laramie and the vehicle has developed a water leak. The leak is coming from rear window, window seal, or related components. The result is that the headliner has water stains on the rear passenger and driver side. Continued water leaks have the potential to cause interior mold or electrical problems.
The bolts holding the muffler to the exhaust pipe sheered off. After speaking with multiple dealers it is a known problem using a smaller bolt in the new body model Ram 1500 DT. The smaller bolt can’t handle the heating/cooling and eventually snaps. But this generally occurs just outside of warranty time. With the undersized bolts used by the manufacturer this causes the exhaust pipe to hang freely and risks the potential to cause injury or death with parts falling. There are many cases like this at dealers across the country and more to come. This body model is just coming up on 3-4 years so more trucks are starting to come in with this issue.
The rear window, window seal, or related components have failed and allow water to intrude into the cabin of my vehicle near the back. This water gets the headliner wet and drips down the interior of the rear window, down the rear of the passenger compartment. This water intrusion occurs with very, very light moisture on the vehicle, such as early mornings with morning dew, light rain, or watching the vehicle. The near-daily (due to dew) intrusion of water into the cabin of my vehicle raises safety concerns of mold & mildew in the passenger compartment. My rear window backlite frame is visibly cracked on the interior, matching the symptom pictured in TSB [XXX]. My vehicle has a manufacturer date within the dates noted in the TSB. My vehicle also includes a power sliding window as noted in the TSB. I've been to two dealerships and they both told me they see this problem in RAM trucks "all the time". Both dealers refused to perform a warranty repair under the extended warranty noted in the TSB (150,000 miles) because my VIN is not associated with the TSB in FCA's system even though my vehicle appears to be described as a vehicle affected. I've attached 2 photos to my report. One photo showing the crack as noted in TSB [XXX]. One photo showing the actual crack in my backlite frame. This appears to be a very prevalent issue with a lot of online discussion from many other affected RAM owners. A known exhaust manifold problem has caused exhaust fumes to enter the cabin which cause headaches and could cause serious issues while driving
The rear window leaks from the top whenever it rains or I wash the truck. The excessive leaking is causing water stains on the seats and the headliner and may cause mold and mildew creating a health issue. The dealer told me this is out of warranty and wants me to pay $174 to diagnose it. RAM Customer Service was also unwilling to do anything to take care of the problem. I don't need to diagnose it, I already know it leaks. Furthermore, they already know because two service memos have been sent to the dealers back in 2021. There was also a class action lawsuit filed for the issue in 2022. The memos acknowledge that RAM is very well aware of the defect, but because they refuse to issue a recall they don't deem it bad enough to take care of it. They also want me to pay for the full repair, why would I pay for the full repair of a known defect, inside or outside of the warranty? Unfortunately, or maybe fortunately, I am going to have to switch my brand loyalty after buying 3 $60,000 Mopar Vehicles from the same dealership. Seems to me, just taking care of the problem would be well worth that kind of customer loyalty. We'll see what the dealership decides.
Afraid of Potential "Black Mold" health exposure due to faulty construction/design/product allowing water to leak into the cab soaking and staining headliner, seats and rugs. The water is absorbed into the insulation and fabrics. Research has confirmed this issue has been reported for more than 15 years. 2020 Ram 1500 Bighorn. Had truck at dealer for issue. A few hundred mile out of warranty, and they would not repair without us paying out of pocket. We feel that Ram should cover this issue being so many of us Ram owners have the same issue
The drivers-side Sunvisor keeps falling down randomly and dangles in way of line of sight to the road. It will not stay up. The safety issue is while driving in heavy traffic in Houston, TX the visor fell down obstructing my view and I almost crashed trying to keep the Visor Up with one hand and avoiding cars changing lanes. I did take my truck to the dealer and they told me it would cost $180 just to look at and then they would tell how much it would cost to fix. I feel this should be a Safety Matter and corrected free of charge. I looked on the internet and it seems there are a lot of problems with this same issue. There were not any warning lights before or after the visor would obstruck my vision.
Back window leaks allowing water to seap in and build up mold/mildew under head liner. Dealer says this is a common problem with the ram and manufacturer won't cover after factory warranty. Manufacturer is aware of problem but won't recall or fix issue . Mold can cause a health risk if not detected early enough.
I noticed the rear view window mouldings are cracked inside the cabin of my truck by the 3rd brake light. Everytime it rains or wash my vehicle it’s leaking water inside the cabin onto the back seat. I called the local dealer ship (empire Chrysler jeep ram dodge) and set an appointment to get it fixed under warranty. They made me wait two months after the warranty expire to be seen. Now both corporate and the dealership won’t cover the manufacture issue because my truck is out of the warranty. The rear view glass needs to be replaced in order to fix the issue. I do not have glass coverage, and I will not pay to get it replaced. I do not want mold growing inside the cave of my truck, making me and my family sick. I also had a case number with RAM customer care and they told me the same thing.
I was on my farm road and I had to back up a long distance. I was surprised to find out the truck is governed not to exceed 20 mph in reverse. While I know most people can’t go in reverse that fast , I do, I can and it’s frustrating knowing I can’t. I look at this as a safety issue because what if I was in a threatening situation and had to back up quickly to get out of that place. So picture in your head someone it trying to do me harm on a single lane road and they have stopped in front of me to carjack me or something similar. I quickly put my car in reverse only to find my max speed is 20 mph. The carjackers car has no limit and they quickly catch me and run me off the road etc etc. I do not need to have that decision of how fast I go in reverse made for me. Is this a new government regulation or something by RAM? I would like an answer.
Dash will occasionally flash stop/start unavailable. Second incident yesterday happened while at a red light. Start/stop went unavailable and vehicle stalled and applied parking brake. Both incidents were while stop/start had been on and after releasing the brake. I see there is an open recall for this on the 2021 models. My vehicles build date is June 2020 seems and fall under the timeline for the 21 models but no recall for my vehicle
Right passenger visor fell off completely from the wire in the ceiling. Left driver side visor loose and is dangling from the wire from the ceiling. They are in place hooked on to the snap on part. Neither one can be used.
Rear backup camera works intermittently, can work or stop working at anytime. Difficult to hook up to a camper or back into a parking space, very dangerous when needed.
The contact's brother owned a 2020 Ram 1500 Rebel. The contact stated that the vehicle was previously driven parked and left unattended a few hours later, the vehicle spontaneously caught fire. The neighbors alerted the owner that the vehicle had caught fire. The fire department extinguished the fire and informed him the fire started in the engine compartment. A 2021 Mercedes Benz CLA 250 parked in front of the Ram caught fire as well. There were no reported injuries. A police report was filed. It was unknown if the air bags were deployed. The vehicle had burnt to the frame. The vehicle was still at the owner's residence. The local dealer was not contacted. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was contacted, who informed me an adjuster would evaluate the vehicle damage. The failure mileage was approximately 72,000
Rear sliding glass window does not close using OPEN/CLOSE toggle switch (it will open but not close). Dodge technician that looked at it stated the the bottom seal of the rear window had come unglued and was not allowing the window to stay on it's track while closing. As a result, the entire rear glass window had to be replaced.
The dash on my truck is bubbling. I have searched the internet and there seems to be hundreds of complaints of this happening on the new body style Ram. It sounds like a manufacturing issue and I believe should be a recall. It is $3,500 to get the dash replaced and it seems to be happening to a lot of people.
Rear window leaking water into cab. Water flows behind seat, where electronics are present. Inspected by dealership and rear window needs replacement. Not covered under warranty and repair deferred due to significant cost.
First intermittent ticking from engine. Then sudden loud exhaust noise at 15,000 miles. Hemi engine known to have rusted bolts/cracked manifolds in past. Recall?
I have a 2020 Ram Rebel. The back window has three leaks with the one in the center being the worst. It is ruining my back seat from the water coming in whenever it rains. It appears all three leaks are coming from the top of the window.
While driving down the interstate, the sunroof spontaneously shattered. I was not under a bridge or a tunnel so nothing fell onto the sunroof. It just shattered out of no where.
Rear Window had cracked frame due to defect allowed water to enter vehicle during storms running down and blocking vision out back window vision. The water would freeze since defroster malfunctioned from water intrusion hampering visibility. Additionally, resulting water damage to interior and possibly electrical / airbags in ceiling next to frame exposed to water intrusion. Dealer indicated this is consistent problem with all Ram 2020 pickup trucks and older.
I have a 2020 Ram1500 Laramie and I developed a rear window leak. I am not sure if it was from the break light or the actual window. I did take it to the dealer and it was fixed with a 1 year warranty from the company that repaired it. However, I do not believe this is sufficient. The Truck will be 3 years old in one year as I brought it Aug 2022 and if this happens again in the next 5 years, I believe it should be covered from the manufacture as this has happened to many vehicles from what I can see on the forums. I believe this should be a recall that Ram is responsible for covering for the life of the vehicle.
When accelerating from a stop the truck loses power and fails to respond. The engine is working but the transmission fails to engage and the truck just coasts until all-of-a-sudden it jerks back into motion. The vehicle will also lunge forward when coming to a stop as if the transmission catches and decides to accelerate momentarily. This is a serious safety issue when pulling out into traffic and has almost caused me to be involved in two accidents.
The passenger side visor constantly disengages from the ceiling and falls down blocking the view of the driver. The issue requires taking both hands and shoving the visor back into the ceiling. This happened so often that now the visor won't engage back into the ceiling and the wiring for the mirror light has also broken.
Air is blowing out of Defrost on all settings. This is a safety hazard in the summer as when it is high humidity outside and the A/C is set to blow out of front facing vents only the air still blows out of Defrost and causes the window to fog up and obstructs the view out of the front window. Also during the winter when defrost only made is set the same amount of air is now blowing out at my feet. The main safety concern is during the summer for the obstructed view out of the front window. Had this looked at during routine service and dealership said this is a known issue and they have no way to fix it at this time from RAM.
Driving on a two lane highway at speed. The truck shut off, all controlls turned off and park brake applied. The vehicle to the rear nearly rear ended my truck. I swerved onto a side street to get out of traffic, barley missing a power pole. Had vehicle towed to dodge dealer and they are repeatedly stating there is nothing wrong with my vehicle. They are also refusing to pursue the matter any further.
Tailgate Issue: I own a 2020 RAM 1500 Laramie and at mileage 22,700, while driving down the highway pulling a 30ft travel trailer, the tailgate of my truck opened up without any warning. The tailgate hit the tongue jack on my camper damaging the tailgate and the tongue jack. If it wasn't for the camper jack keeping the tailgate from fully opening, all the contents in my truck bed could have fallen out of my truck onto the highway without me being aware, possibly causing an accident. I called the dealership and they said they were not aware of any recalls for that type of issue and had me bring it in. At that time the dealer fixed a shim recall that I had already had an appointment for, they took pictures of the damage and had me contact Chrysler customer service. The vehicle and camper have not been repaired. I filed a claim with Chrysler and I have an appointment on 11/3/22, with the Chrysler representative to take pictures of my vehicle. On the NHTSB, I have noticed that this same issue has happened to similar vehicles.
The visor on the driver’s side has had a component fail which causes the visor to fall down and block the driver’s vision. This is a significant safety hazard as it blocks the driver’s view and it takes two hands to push the visor back up so that it is not blocking the driver’s view. The dealer has inspected the vehicle and determined the part is not working properly and has agreed to a warranty repair. However, the part has not been available for four months. Internet reports suggests this is a widespread problem with the Dodge Ram. Having a malfunctioning component that causes the visor to block the driver’s view poses a significant risk that a driver could be in an accident because he or she cannot see the road ahead and cannot clear the field of view without taking both hands off the steering wheel. This is an ongoing risk for Dodge vehicles so long as Dodge does not produce adequate parts to repair the malfunctioning piece.
Vehicle turns off while driving without any errors or warnings. Vehicle turned off more than 10 times during my commute home when slowing either to turn or coming to a complete stop at a light/stop sign. Vehicle turns completely off and then abruptly applied the parking brake and clunks into park. Vehicle turns off an multiple speeds. When scanning saw the following stored messages. U0159-00 Lost Communication with Parking Assist Control Module U045A-00 Implausible Data Received From Parking Assist Module There is no warning when it stops in order to allow for safely pulling off and the application of the parking brake and slamming into park is abrupt and jarring. No way to restart till vehicle is completely stopped in traffic and then have to shift back into drive. Had more than one vehicle approach quickly as vehicle stalled on a single lane road after a sharp turn with no place to pull off. Vehicle was purchased used with around 20k and have driven it for 4,000 miles trouble free. There appears to be lots of people with similar experiences and no known solution or recall for the 2020 model but there might be ones for the 2021 and 2022. No appointments available at local dealers, trying to get it in, but not safe to drive.
Power locking Tailgate opened while driving. This has happened a dozen times since I’ve owned the truck including the highway and local roads.
On May 31, 2022 I purchased a 2020 Dodge Ram 1500 from Rountree Moore in Lake City Florida. I was sold this vehicle under the pretense that it had been safety checked and the vehicle was road worthy. On June 17, 2022 the front tires became low on air and I had to refill the air pressure in the tires. I was scheduled to go out of town for "Father's Day" weekend and the tires became a concern for me. On Saturday, June 18, 2022 I took my vehicle to Billings Tire in Providence, Florida to check the tires before taking my trip. I was informed that the two front tires must of be originals and never rotated and some of the metal was coming through the tires. Both rear tires were not the correct size tires for this truck and needed to be replaced although they were practically new. I called my dealership salesman, Justin, and relayed the issue to him. He in turn called Billings Tire and spoke with the owner and was suggested to Justin that this issue should have been caught during the safety inspection the dealer performs. I was also informed from Billings Tire that all 4 tires should be replaced because they were safety hazards. I spent over $900.00 on new tires that same day. I have been calling Justin about this issue and he keeps putting me off and tells me is General Manager is not in. It has been a week ago and no resolution. I feel as though I was highly pressured into purchasing this truck just to make a sale and the truck was NOT road worthy. I drive the interstate 5 days a week going to work. I feel I could have been killed as well as placing others in harms way at high speeds.
Rear sliding window frame cracks causing potential water leaks and mold if not corrected has been reported by multiple people of this happening to this vehicle
The incident has occurred three times since the first time it happened. While driving at various speeds on various types of roadways. The truck will completely shut off, power is quickly restored to the vehicle but at that point that engine has already shut off. Thus forcing me to come to a complete stop either in the middle of the road, or on the shoulder. The truck then had to be put in park, and then turned back on. This occurred three separate times, at three different instances. My safety, and the safety of my family was put at extreme risk during the instances due to the failure and leaving us stranded in the middle of several lanes of fast moving traffic. The lives of all other motorists around us were also put in danger due to the abrupt inability for me to continue driving, causing an interruption on several lanes of highway for many drivers. The vehicle is available for inspection upon request, it has not yet been inspected by a dealer, independent service center, police, insurance or other. There were no warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure.
Rear window crack-leaks water into the floor and damages the auto receiver. The vehicle will not start and keys are not operational. Insurance company will not cover and warranties will not cover damages. Insurance company believes is a design safety issue and needs to be looked into since there are ample of complaints on the internet.
Eleven times now, the tailgate fails to fully lock when closed. It jams half way between being locked and not being locked. Only remedy I have found is to remove the tailgate partially and reinstall. This model has the Ram boxes. It appears there needs to be a bushing on the right side to keep the tailgate from shifting out of position.
Backup camera stopped working, just a black screen shows up. Also, the side mirrors both hit and rub the driver and passenger windows when folded.
Potential "Black Mold" health exposure due to faulty construction/design/product allowing water to leak into the cab soaking and staining headliner, seats and rugs. The water is absorbed into the insulation and fabrics. Research has confirmed this issue has been reported for more than 15 years. 2020 Ram 1500 Bighorn Quadcab.
Rear windshield surround cracked. Water is entering vehicle. Concerned about excessive moisture in and around airbags.
Sunroof exploded into pieces while driving. With a shotgun sounds. No outside impact on the pieces of the sunroof.
The tailgate gets stuck closed leaving me unable to open it until I take it to the dealership and they pry it open with a tool from the shop. The tailgate also randomly pops open while driving and carrying items in the bed of the truck. Luckily nothing has fallen out since I also strap it in.
WATER LEAK ON SLIDING REAR WINDOW/BACK OF CAB
REAR WINDOW CRACKED. LEAKING WATER INTO TRUCK
PLASTIC REAR WINDOW SURROUND FRAME CRACK.
SUNROOF EXPLODED! DRIVING ON FREEWAY WE HEARD LOUD BLAST AND THAN THE GLASS WAS GONE! NO OTHER CARS AROUND. NO OVERPASS FOR MILES. GLASS BLEW UP AND GONE LIKE VALCANO. WE HAD TO DRIVE 30 MIN IN THE RAIN HOME. DEALER CURRENTLY SAYS NO WARRANTY?
THE ISSUE OCCURS BOTH STATIONARY AND IN MOTION. THE 12" INFOTAINMENT SYSTEM DOES NOT PLAY ANY SOUND OR ALLOW THE VOLUME TO BE ADJUSTED. THE SIRIUSXM FEATURE SHOWS A PERPETUAL LOADING SCREEN BUT NEVER ACTUALLY LOADS THE APP OR PLAY MUSIC. THE ISSUE IS EXTREMELY DISTRACTING AND TEMPTS DRIVERS TO TRY AND FIDDLE WITH IT WHILE DRIVING WHICH CAN LEAD TO DISTRACTED DRIVING. THE ISSUE ALSO PREVENTS BLUETOOTH HANDS-FREE CALLING FROM BEING USED TEMPTING DRIVERS TO TEXT OR PERFORM A NON-HANDS FREE CALL WHILE DRIVING.
WINDSHIELD CRACKED. 12' CRACK DUE TO STONE FROM HIGHWAY. . RAM DEALERS CANNOT CALIBRATE SENSORS ON WINDSHIELD BECAUSE RAM HAS MADE SOFTWARE AND HARDWARE TOO EXPENSIVE FOR PURCHASE. RAMFIAT STILL HAS NOT RELEASED 2020 SOFTWRE UPDATE TO 3RD PARTY VENDORS. I CALLED RAM SUPPORT AND THEY ADVISED NO ASSISTANCE CAN BE OFFERED 'AT THIS TIME'. I HAVE A NEW TRUCK I CAN'T SAFELY DRIVE.
I DROVE THE VEHICLE AND THE TAILGATE WAS NOT PROPERLY LATCHED. THE VEHICLE IS EQUIPPED WITH A TAILGATE AJAR WARNING LIGHT, BUT IT IS DISABLED BY THE MANUFACTURER. THE TAILGATE POPPED OPEN WHILE DRIVING AND ITEMS FELL FROM MY TRUCK BED ONTO THE ROAD CREATING A SIGNIFICANT SAFETY HAZARD FOR OTHER DRIVERS. BECAUSE THERE WARNING LIGHT IS PURPOSELY DISABLED, I WAS UNAWARE OF THE HAZARD UNTIL I STOPPED THE TRUCK AT MY DESTINATION. WHEN CONTACTING THE MANUFACTURER, I WAS TOLD THEY WOULD NOT FIX THE WARNING LIGHT. THIS FEATURE IS LISTED ON MY EQUIPMENT LIST FOR THE VEHICLE WHEN PURCHASED BUT PURPOSELY DISABLED BY RAM. IT CREATES A SIGNIFICANT HAZARD FOR DRIVERS BECAUSE UNKNOWING TO THE DRIVER OF THE TRUCK, THE TAILGATE CAN POP OPEN ALLOWING ITEMS TO FALL ON THE ROAD. WHATS WORSE, IS THAT THE MANUFACTURER EXPLAINED TO ME THAT THEY DISABLED THE WARNING BECAUSE THEY ALSO HAVE AN ISSUE WHERE THE WARNING LIGHT WOULD COME ON BECAUSE THE TAILGATE SHOWS AS UNLATCHED, EVEN THOUGH IT IS LATCHED CORRECTLY. I FIND IT DISTURBING THAT THE MANUFACTURER WOULD DISABLE A SAFETY FEATURE FOR CONVENIENCE.
ON SUNDAY, JULY 19, 2020, PARKED AND TURNED ON THE AC. START SMELLING SOMETHING BURNING AND WHITE SMOKE STARTED TO COME OUT OF FRONT AND CAB VENTS. IMMEDIATELY TURNED OFF AND LET TRUCK SIT FOR 30 MINUTES AND DROVE ABOUT TEN MILES AND THE WHITE SMOKE AND SMELL RETURNED. PULLED OVER ON THE FREEWAY TO CHECK UNDER THE HOOD FOR SMOKE. NO SMOKE WAS COMING FROM THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT. SO, WE CALLED DEALERSHIP TO SEE IF THIS WAS NORMAL FOR AN ECODIESEL TRUCK. THE SMELL AND SMOKE GAVE PASSENGERS INSIDE THE VEHICLE HEADACHES. WE WERE MADE AWARE THAT THIS WASN'T NORMAL AND NEEDED TO BRING THE TRUCK IN. THE SMOKED CONTINUED TO TRAVEL THROUGHOUT THE TRUCK VENTS EVEN AFTER IT WAS PARKED AT THE RESIDENT. JULY 20,2020 CONTACTED ROADSIDE SERVICES AND HAD THE TRUCK TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP. THE DEALERSHIP DIAGNOSTIC WAS THE HEATER CORE CAUSED THESE PROBLEMS. PASSENGERS EXPERIENCED HEADACHE FROM THE SMOKE AND BURNING SMELL. THIS IS A SAFETY HAZARD ESPECIALLY FOR SOMEONE THAT IS UNABLE TO SMELL, ESPECIALLY IF ALL THE WINDOWS ARE UP. THE TRUCK HAS LESS THAN 3,500 MILES. THIS WAS A BRAND NEW 2020 VEHICLE AND IS STILL AT THE DEALERSHIP BEING REPAIRED.
THIS DEFECT HAS THE REAL PROBABILITY OF CAUSING DAMAGE TO BOTH MY VEHICLE AND ANOTHER VEHICLE. TAKING MY NEW TRUCK THROUGH A CAR WASH, I PUT THE VEHICLE IN NEUTRAL AT THE START OF THE WASH. THE CAR WASH HAS ROLLERS THAT DRIVE THE REAR DRIVER'S SIDE WHEEL THROUGH THE CAR WASH. AT THE END, MY VEHICLE DASHBOARD INDICATES THAT I NEED TO DEPRESS THE BRAKE PEDAL AND PUSH THE START/STOP BUTTON ON THE DASH. AFTER DOING THIS, THE DASHBOARD THEN TELLS ME THAT I NEED TO DEPRESS THE BRAKE PEDAL AND PUT THE VEHICLE INTO DRIVE. EACH TIME I DEPRESS THE BRAKE PEDAL, THE DRIVER'S REAR TIRE JUMPS OVER THE ROLLER PUSHING THE VEHICLE AND THE DISTANCE BETWEEN MY VEHICLE AND THE VEHICLE BEHIND ME CLOSES. MY RAM HAS THE LARGE MONITOR SCREEN, AND HAS THE ABILITY TO INSTALL APPS. WHAT IS NEEDED IS A "CAR WASH APP" THAT DISABLES THE REQUIREMENT TO DEPRESS THE BRAKE FOR THESE TWO PROCEDURES AS LONG AS THE VEHICLE WAS 1) ROLLING IN NEUTRAL; 2) HAS NOT TRAVELED MORE THAN X FEET (300); AND 3) HAS NOT TRAVELED FASTER THAN 4 MILES PER HOUR. *TR
