The contact's husband veered to the side of the road and was able to place the key back in the ignition module. The contact stated that her husband continued to drive the vehicle. The contact stated that the ignition module had failed to hold the key and they were unable to restart the vehicle. The contact referenced NHTSA Campaign Number: 10V200000 (Electrical System). The dealer and the manufacturer were not notified of the failure. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 120,000.

NO OTHER LIGHTS CAME ON AND NO CHECK ENGINE LIGHT OR CODE WAS STORED IN THE COMPUTER. WHEN THE ENGINE STALLED I LOST POWER BRAKES, POWER STEERING AND (OBVIOUSLY) ENGINE POWER. THE ENGINE RESTARTED EASILY WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS PLACED IN NEUTRAL. THIS HAS HAPPENED SEVERAL TIMES, SOME AT THE SAME LOCATION OR LOCATIONS WITH SIMILAR SPEED/DECELERATION/TURNING CONDITIONS. THE DEALERSHIP IS UNABLE TO RECREATE THE STALL AND THUS UNABLE TO FIX THE PROBLEM. I HAVE CONTACTED THEM 2 TIMES AND TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THEM ONCE. I HAD TO DISCONNECT THEM WHICH NOW POSES A SAFETY RISK TO ME AND MY FAMILY. DEALER SAYS IT IS THE TIPM WHICH CHRYSLER IS AWARE OF AND HAS IT SHE RECALLS ON OTHER MODELS WITH THE SAME CONFIGURATION AS MY TRUCK. NOW THE TRUCK HAS TO BE INSPECTED FOR SAFETY TO KEEP THE LICENSE PLATES CORRECT AND IT WILL NOT PASS WITHOUT PERFORMING A $1200 REPAIR ON A PART THAT IS KNOWN TO BE DEFECTIVE. ALSO, THE FUEL PUMPS STOPPED WORKING AND WERE REPLACED UNDER WARRANTY BUT THE TECHNICIAN SAID THE PROBLEM WAS IN THE POME BUT THE TECHNICIAN SAID THE PROBLEM WAS IN THE PUMP IN FACT IT WAS THE TIPM BUT SINCE THERE WAS NO RECALL AND THE TRUCK WAS THEM OUT OF WARRANTY IT WAS UP TO ME TO PAY FOR THE REPAIR.

THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL NEEDED TO BE CONTINUOUSLY PRESSED TO MOVE THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE RESTARTED INDEPENDENTLY; HOWEVER, THE FAILURE RECURRED SEVERAL TIMES. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO BE DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. WHEN I WAS GETTING OUT OF THE TRUCK TO CHECK THE BATTERY, ALL THE DASH LIGHTS CAME ON AND EVERYTHING SEEMED TO WORK AND THE TRUCK STARTED RIGHT UP AND DROVE OK. THIS HAPPENED A FEW WEEKS EARLIER SO I REPLACED THE BATTERY BECAUSE IT WAS FIVE YEARS OLD. IT HAD THE SAME EXACT CONDITIONS AS BEFORE.

THE HVAC SYSTEM IN THE TRUCK FAILED. AIR WILL NOT FLOW THROUGH THE DASH FACE VENTS OR DEFROST VENTS. BROUGHT TO DEALER FOR REPAIR. DEALER SAID THAT ONE OR TWO "MODE DOOR ACTUATORS NEED TO BE REPLACED" THEY SAID THE DASH BOARD NEEDED TO BE REMOVED AND IT COULD COST SEVERAL THOUSAND DOLLARS. UPON RESEARCHING THE PROBLEM I FOUND THERE WAS A RECALL ISSUED FOR THE MODE DOOR ACTUATORS AND TO REPROGRAM THE CONTROL HEAD SOFTWARE (K17). MY TRUCK HAD THE SOFTWARE UPDATE IN 2012. THE DEALER REFUSED TO REPLACE THE MODE DOOR ACTUATORS UNDER RECALL BECAUSE THEY SAID THE SOFTWARE UPDATE WAS PERFORMED. I CALLED CHRYSLER CUSTOMER SERVICE AND ASKED ABOUT THE K17 RECALL. THEY SAID THEY WILL NOT COVER THE REPAIR BECAUSE I REFUSED FURTHER DIAGNOSTICS. THE ONLY OTHER DIAGNOSTICS THE DEALER SAID NEEDED TO BE DONE WAS TO REMOVE THE DASHBOARD TO SEE IF IT WAS ONE OR TWO BAD ACTUATORS AND THE COST IN LABOR TO REMOVE THE DASH WOULD BE SEVERAL THOUSAND DOLLARS. THEY KNOW WHAT THE PROBLEM IS THEY JUST DON'T KNOW HOW MANY ACTUATORS ARE DEFECTIVE. THE COST OF THE PARTS IS MINIMAL BUT THE LABOR IS NOT. I FEEL THAT DODGE/CHRYSLER SHOULD MAKE GOOD ON THE RECALL REPAIR AS IT IS A HAZARD NOT BEING ABLE TO CLEAR FROST FROM THE WINDSHIELD DUE TO THE DEFECTIVE PARTS. *TR

MY MECHANIC SAID IT'S THE FUSE BOX, SAID IT'S IN HORRIBLE CONDITION. MORE PROBLEMS ARE POSSIBLE. PARTS & LABOR WILL BE NEAR $850. VARIOUS FORUMS ARE INUNDATED WITH SIMILAR COMPLAINTS. A FRIEND OF A CO-WORKER'S TRUCK BURNT TO THE GROUND IN HIS DRIVEWAY (AND SINGED THE HOUSE) BECAUSE THE FUSE BOX DIDN'T TELL THE FUEL PUMP TO SHUT OFF. BROUGHT BACK TO DODGE AND THEY TOLD ME IT WAS THE SPARK PLUGS. THEY REPLACED THEM AT $225 AT MY COST AND SAID IT WAS FIXED. TWO DAYS LATER THE TRUCK STALLED ON MY WIFE AGAIN. SHE IS SCARED TO DRIVE THE TRUCK NOW BECAUSE SHE DOESN'T WANT TO GET INTO AND ACCIDENT WITH KIDS . BROUGHT BACK TO DODGE AND TALKED TO THE MANAGER ABOUT THE SAFETY OF THE TRUCK. THEY TOLD US THAT THEY NEEDED TO REPLACE THE TIPM MODULE AT $1400 DOLLARS. IT'S BEEN ABOUT A MONTH AND A HALF AND NOW AFTER REPLACING THE TIPM IT IS STILL STALLING.
