Owner-Reported Issues (20 of 55)
Air Bags →5 issues
Your 2009 Sentra is covered by an active airbag recall, but when tested, the recall issue didn't show up. However, your airbag warning light has started blinking on its own with no accidents or incidents that could have triggered it. This suggests a separate electrical or sensor problem with your airbag system that needs diagnosis. You'll likely need a technician to scan your airbag control module for fault codes and replace any faulty sensors or wiring.

Your airbag warning light turned on while you were braking at a red light, even though your car hasn't been in a crash, fire, or flood. You believe this is a manufacturer defect in the airbag module rather than a maintenance issue. The airbag system will need to be diagnosed and the module may need to be replaced or repaired by a dealer.

Your airbag warning light blinks when you start the car. Two dealerships have told you the problem is a faulty clock spring (a component in your steering wheel), which controls both the driver and passenger airbags. They've warned you that if you were in a crash, neither airbag might deploy, making the car unsafe to drive. Fixing this will require replacing the clock spring component in your steering wheel.

Your airbag warning light flashes continuously on your dashboard. This indicates a problem with your airbag system that needs to be diagnosed. A technician will need to scan your vehicle's computer to identify the specific fault and determine what component needs repair or replacement.

Your airbag warning light started flashing on your dashboard. Nissan has issued technical service bulletins about this issue, but hasn't issued a recall. The problem wasn't diagnosed by a dealer, so the exact cause wasn't confirmed. A dealer inspection and diagnosis will be needed to identify what's triggering the warning light and determine if the airbags need repair or replacement.

Steering,air Bags,structure →2 issues
Your driver's side airbag deployed with excessive force, causing you to lose consciousness for several minutes. When you regained consciousness, you lost control of the vehicle while it was moving, resulting in a collision with a pole that totaled the car. The airbag deployment itself may have contributed to the loss of control and subsequent crash.

Your car was involved in a crash that resulted in a police report. The incident affected the steering, airbags, and structural components of your vehicle. A qualified mechanic should inspect these systems to ensure they're safe for continued driving.

Power Train →2 issues
Your transmission has been making grinding noises since fall 2016, especially when you start moving after the car has been sitting still for at least 30 minutes. The Nissan dealership in Columbus couldn't reproduce or hear the noise during multiple visits, even though it's noticeable to you—it sounds like someone isn't fully engaging the clutch before shifting, but your car has an automatic transmission. Your car was under warranty when the problem started but is no longer covered now at 123,000 miles. The transmission may need internal inspection or replacement to diagnose the source of the grinding noise.

Your transmission is showing error code P0744 and experiencing rough shifting — the engine RPM fluctuates, the car jerks, and speed drops then increases unexpectedly. Nissan has issued a service bulletin for older vehicles to replace the transmission valve body assembly, but your 2009 Sentra (with 145,500 miles) is outside the warranty period and Nissan declined to cover repairs. The repair is estimated to cost over $1,200 and will likely involve replacing the valve body assembly inside your CVT transmission.

Suspension,service Brakes →1 issue
Your brake line broke into pieces while driving on the highway, causing complete brake fluid loss and brake failure with no warning light on the dashboard. Even after replacing brake pads, rotors, and calipers, your brakes continue to make noise and require pad replacement every year. The brake line failure will require inspection of the entire brake system, brake line replacement, and a complete fluid flush and refill.

Service Brakes →1 issue
Your brake pedal suddenly lost all stopping power while driving on the interstate with no warning lights on the dashboard. You were able to slow down gradually and safely pull over using the emergency brake. The problem was caused by your brake line breaking into three pieces, which prevented brake fluid from reaching your wheels.

Suspension →1 issue
Your left front ball joint rusted and failed while you were driving away from home. The ball joint separated from its socket, causing that corner of your suspension to drop and pull the CV axle partially out of the transmission. Your car had to be towed to a repair facility. The repair will involve replacing the rusted ball joint and likely inspecting the CV axle and transmission connection for damage.

Seat Belts →1 issue
Your driver's side seat belt is loose and won't tighten properly to keep you secure. Your front passenger's seat belt is stuck and won't allow the passenger to buckle in. Both seat belts need attention to ensure safety for all occupants.

Steering,exterior Lighting,air Bags →1 issue
Your airbag warning light is flashing on the dashboard and shows 'AIR BAG OFF.' This indicates a problem with your airbag system that needs to be diagnosed. A mechanic will need to scan your vehicle's computer to identify what's causing the airbag system to be disabled.

Structure,unknown Or Other,service Brakes →1 issue
Your brakes stopped working completely during an accident on 4/15/17, and you were unable to stop the car even when trying to shift into park. This resulted in a crash. A complete brake system inspection and repair will be needed to identify why the brakes failed and restore safe stopping ability.

Electrical System,unknown Or Other,fuel/propulsion System →1 issue
Your car stalls out and all dashboard warning lights turn on whenever you brake hard at red lights, though the check engine light isn't constantly on. You've already replaced the starter, alternator, and battery without solving the problem. The issue may be related to a mass airflow sensor or fuel pump malfunction, though your specific model year isn't included in the current Takata recall.

Power Train,engine →1 issue
Your engine is stalling when you come to a stop at traffic lights and apply the brakes. After it stalls, the car restarts normally. This has happened a few times over the past month. The issue may be related to the fuel system, ignition system, or engine idle control and could require a diagnostic scan to identify the root cause.

Tires →1 issue
Both of your front tires developed severe cracks in the sidewalls at around 40,000 miles. You have Hankook Roadhandler Sport tires (215/55R/16), and the cracks appeared on both front tires, suggesting a potential defect rather than isolated wear. Both the tire manufacturer and retailer declined to offer assistance. You'll likely need to replace both front tires with a new set.

Vehicle Speed Control →1 issue
Your car hesitated and wouldn't accelerate when you pressed the gas pedal all the way down while turning across traffic, nearly causing a collision before suddenly surging forward. The car felt like it stalled and you had no control during the delay. This problem only happens in summer, which suggests the engine may be overheating and causing the acceleration issue. You may need to have your fuel system, engine cooling system, or engine control module checked for heat-related problems.

Electrical System →1 issue
Your car's doors automatically lock when you close them while you're standing outside the vehicle, trapping you out. This has happened multiple times, forcing you to lower the windows or use a spare key to get back in. The issue appears to be with the automatic door locking system or its electrical controls.
