Your car's forward collision warning system failed to stop your vehicle during a highway emergency braking situation. The warning lights came on and the car hesitated, but the brakes didn't fully engage, forcing you to swerve and resulting in a collision with another vehicle. Your dashboard shows a system malfunction message, and this is the third similar incident you've experienced with the ABS system.

Your forward collision avoidance system has caused your car to stop unexpectedly twice while driving over the past 5 weeks. Nissan has issued a free software update (TSB NTB19-033G) to fix this issue, but your local dealerships are refusing to apply it without charging you for a full diagnostic and road test first. Since the problem occurs randomly, there's a risk the issue won't happen during their test drive, leaving you with a bill and no fix.

Your car's automatic braking system has unexpectedly stopped the vehicle three times in the past month while driving in traffic at 35–40 mph on side roads. You've checked the windshield camera and emblem for debris but found them clean, so the problem doesn't appear to be caused by dirt or obstruction. Your dealer may be able to fix this with a software update, and if the problem continues after that update, you plan to report it again.

Had this car for 2 years no issues. Now all sudden when it rains alittle. An I drive my car an go to back up it slams it breaks on me. I took to Nissan dealership in Johnstown told them what was going on and she told me that it had dirty in the sensor. Ok could have been. Well now everytime it rains I have issues an when I back up it slams it brakes. I have got stuck in the middle of the road several times. I’m either gonna get hit or hit someone an Nissan is pretty telling me there is nothing wrong with my car

Twice in the past week (9/11 & 9/14), the AEB has engaged while I was driving (forward) despite NO vehicles/objects/people obstructing the path. Yes, it is available for inspection upon request. There was no beeping, no lights on the dashboard, or any other warnings prior to the AEB just abruptly stopping my car. Luckily I wasn't on the highway or going very fast because otherwise it would be EXTREMELY dangerous (whiplash, getting rear-ended, serious injury or death of myself or other driver(s), etc.). I took it to Nissan of Downtown LA to be looked at 9/14/24 with a 12PM appointment, but they were rude, not accommodating, and ultimately did not inspect it ("The mechanics are all probably at lunch, and it's late now anyway. We close at 4pm.") I told them specifically what the issue was and that it did not seem safe to just be driving around. Apparently Rogues are infamous for these AEB problems and have been recalled before, but not the 2019s. Entered the VIN on KBB and no recalls currently.

I was driving and all of a sudden my 2019 Nissan Rogue jerked forward and slowed down in mid traffic. The dashboard lit up with warnings and the vehicle began to idle up over 2 RPM's. Luckily there wasn't much traffic coming, otherwise I would have been in an automobile accident. It really scared me when that happened. I had to pull over and get myself together before pulling back out in traffic to get home.

While driving in a parking structure, at around 15-20 MPH, the automatic emergency braking went on and brought the vehicle to an unsafe stop. Luckily no one was right behind the vehicle. The automatic emergency brake light came on at the same time. This is a safety hazzard in that the system can just engage without cause. In the parking structure, there is a chance of being reaer-ended and hurt. If this happened on a highway or at a faster speed, injury or death could occur. I have seen online that there have been concerns about this happening in this model Rogue. i will be communicating with the Nissan company also.

[AEB] Automatic Emergency Braking System 2019 Nissan Rogue I bought a “Certified New” 2019 Nissan Rogue from Destination Nissan in March 2022. The vehicle had less than 8000 miles at time of purchase. I recently have experienced issues with the: [AEB] Automatic Emergency Braking System. I am not sure this rises to a complaint through the Consumer Protection Bureau; but it certainly warrants issues you may want to look into. The warning light indicating the front [AEB] system was NOT working was/is flashing. I figured it was covered under the “Certified New Car Warranty,” so I brought the car to Destination Nissan. Found out that it was NOT under warranty and the front camera had a bad circuit and would cost $2600 to replace. I did not even know this device was on the car when I bought it and really had/have no interest in having this option. I instructed Nissan to NOT do the repair and just remove the option. They said, they could not remove and I simply could ignore the warning by hitting the OK button. We must hit the OK button EVERY time my wife and I start the car. I was pretty surprised that the item was not considered part of the drive train and hence under warranty, as it automatically can stop the car if [AEB] deems necessary. I guess this on me for not doing my diligence at time of purchase, and is not really the main reason for writing you. I subsequently have been doing some research on [AEB] Automatic Emergency Braking Systems. I found and I am sure you are aware there have been numerous issues and recalls. Nissan, Honda, Volkswagen and others are and have been involved. I decided I better have the system checked by my own garage and mechanic. They do not have the necessary software. I called a second garage/bodyshop and found they could do the work but would be at the mercy of a “mobile” Nissan van which would have to be accessed. Their experience with this was not something convenient and advised me to just deal with Nissan myself.

The vehicle dynamic control (VDC) light came on at the same time. The air conditioner fan quit blowing. The car became difficult to handle. The "Rear Door Alert is activated" warning message is intermittent.

This issue has occurred at least twice. The two major incidents were about a year apart and happened pretty much on the same stretch of interstate. The first time, I was traveling at around 70 mph on the interstate on a bright sunny day in late winter. I feel like the roads may have been fairly white and bright from salt, which could possibly have affected how well sensors were working. Without any warning that I observed, the car braked suddenly. Had I not been wearing a seat belt, it's possible that I could have lost control of the vehicle. Or if someone had been following me closely, I could have been hit from behind. I believe this happened right before I was about to go under and overpass. The second incident was just last night, probably within five miles of the previous incident. It seems like it's usually just before I go under an underpass, which makes me wonder if that triggered it somehow. This time when it happened, I looked at the dash and saw some kind of message flash and disappear before I could read it. It seems like it was white in a yellow bar or yellow on a white bar. Again, it happened really quickly. Now that I'm typing this I feel like it might have happened once before prior to the other two events. I think it was at night and may have been raining. It wasn't quite as noticeable. I feel like I had the cruise on and the cruise suddenly stopped working because the sensors couldn't do their thing. I feel like it was more of a sudden deceleration more than a hard brake, but I am not certain of that. I know I had the intelligent cruising and lane assist on last night. I think I probably did both of the other times as well. I remember thinking during the rain incident that that was a very poor design for the system to brake/decelerate when the sensors stopped working. The additional details following are from the newest incident since it's fresh on my mind.

The Emergency Braking System, Yes it is available upon request. The vehicle applied the braking system in the middle of the street, While I was driving. I have had this vehicle in the service center before for the same issue, And it was “Repaired”. The lights on the dash started flashing yellow, And it made a beeping sound before the system applied the brakes. There was nobody near me when this happened, It just applied the emergency brake by itself. The collision light on the dash blinks all the time at random, I’ve told service about it but they can’t reproduce the same issue.

Oct 27, 2022 Driving on a rural road in Rockport MA at approx 3:30p. Driving the speed limit, but slowed as I approached a metal plate in road. The car jerked violently, came suddenly to a complete stop and engine turned off. No warning lights were on prior and none came on after I started the car and continued to drive. Three cars following closely behind me all had to slam on their brakes. Lots of honking! I've had the car since 2019 and have had 3 minor episodes related to the problem where the car had a momentary pullback of forward movement, but NOTHING like this. I took it to the dealership on 9/28/2022 for this problem and Forward Collision Light on. They said, "sensor is blocked". They "cleared the code".

In March 2022, the vehicle’s AEB suddenly engaged for no reason while I was making a left turn at an intersection. Only luck prevented a serious accident. I was able to roll the vehicle to a side road since it shut off. Vehicle was not able to start again after that and had to be towed. Vehicle was taken to the dealership for repair. They claimed to have repaired the entire CPU and replaced parts. They claimed the battery was loose and due to its movements may have pulled. Invoice they provided says otherwise as an AV unit was replaced and a “voluntary recall” for a software update. The car was picked up and costs were covered under warranty. I noted immediately that the vehicle appeared to be operating better. Including sensors and alerts I was unaware the vehicle had. This of course meant the vehicle was sold to me with bad software which it appeared they fixed. Fast forward to September 30, 2022 and once again the software is demonstrating a malfunction. Once again the vehicles AEB sensors are not working, the vehicle is throwing the same codes it has a few months prior. The vehicle will not start. This is a serious safety issue as had I been driving it, the vehicle would’ve again slammed on the brakes in traffic.

While driving my SUV at approximately 30 mph all the warning lights started flashing on the dash console while sounding warning beeps. The vehicle locked up all the brakes and caused the vehicle to stop violently in a skid and still. The vehicle behind me barely stopped before striking me. The stop was so violent it caused my grandaughter to start screaming uncontrollably. I took the vehicle to Sheehy Nissan in Glen Burnie MD. They claimed they have no idea what is going on and charged me $159 to let me know. I am afraid to drive my vehicle now and definitely won't endanger my granddaughter again. Nissan needs to solve his issue!

While driving the 2019 Nissan Rogue (with only 19,200 miles) the vehicle suddenly engaged the AEB system. The vehicle was in the process of making a left hand turn when the incident occurred only traveling about 15 mph. As the brakes engaged, the steering wheel locked momentarily before power steering returned, additionally the engine completely died in the middle of the road. Luckily, the forward momentum was just enough for the vehicle to be steered into a side road. Once stopped numerous signals flashed in the dash including “AEB malfunction” and to see the dealer. Vehicle was totally dead and refused to start. A kind stranger assisted in pushing the vehicle to the side of the road. The insurance company sent a tow which allowed for the vehicle to be parked in the driveway. Nissan was informed of the issue and sent a courtesy tow to their local dealer. I was told the vehicle had an issue with the ECU. A special order was placed which took 6 days to arrive. Once installed, it was determined that the ECU was not the issue. As of this writing 7 days has elapsed and no reasonable explanation has been provided for the gross negligence on behalf of Nissan for selling such an unsafe vehicle. Under different circumstances the same event may have resulted in damaged property or worse yet significant injury or death. Cylinders in vehicle were repaired after 6 weeks, it spun to bearing in 3 & 4. Vehicle does not run as smoothly as it did before and dealership isn’t able to repair that.

While driving to work on a congested highway during AM rush hour on 10/18/21, my 2019 Nissan Rogue's AEB engaged the car's brakes while I was driving between 25-30 mph. The nearest car in front of me was approximately 100 feet ahead and there was no reason for it. My foot was lightly on the accelerator and not near my brake when I felt the car lurch and the familiar rumbling of the ABS system. As I reached my foot to where the brake pedal is, I felt that it was already depressed having done so automatically. I immediately tapped the accelerator to release the braking system. The car behind me had gotten rather close and was honking their horn. I have tried to reproduce the problem in the past 24 hours but have been unable to do so as it happened on its own. There were no warnings or symptoms prior to the incident. The vehicle is scheduled to be checked by the manufacturer tomorrow. If this had occurred at a high rate of speed, or in adverse weather conditions, it could have caused a multi-car collision resulting in damage to property, injury, or even death.

2x in 2021 while driving the automated braking system activated, slowing my car suddenly and unexpectedly. Luckily no cars were behind me or there would have been accidents. Both times I was about 5 feet away from an overhead traffic light. After June 2021 incident I brought the car to the dealer, who replaced the distance sensor. This braking happened in September 2021, have not yet contacted the dealer This also occurred once in 2020 however I thought it was a fluke. This seems to be an ongoing and potentially not fixable issue. I am afraid to drive my Rogue.

The first incident occurred in November 2019 with about 5,400 mile on the vehicle. On a side street College Ave next close to intersection, I experienced a false Automatic Emergency braking and luckily none was right behind me but if they had been I could've definitely been injured. I took the car in for repair and they reported that they fixed the problem using the solution to a 2017?18 recall. It happened a second time in April or May of 2021 on the freeway and I wondered if it was because of the reflective paint on the 15 south San Diego freeway after the onramp at University Ave. Again, luckily no one was following close behind or I could've been injured but I did not take it in again until a week or so later when it happened a third time in the same place. The automatic emergency braking system broke hard and I was very shook up, luckily again I avoided an accident but it was a very dangerous situation. When I took the vehicle in they said the sensor was not working and they assured me they fixed it wouldn't happen again. Last Tuesday, September 14, 2021, close to the same location of the second and third incident, again, with no cars or objects in front of me the emergency braking system slammed on the brakes in this 4th incident. I was again lucky no one hit me but I did fear for my safety and felt I ran the risk of dying if I drive the car again. We called Nissan and they said this would qualify for the Lemon Law. I called and the case number #44716633. I believe Nissan still hasn't figured out their braking problems in existence since 2017.

While driving my 2019 Nissan Rogue on the freeway at 65 miles/hr in a clear and sunny day all of a sudden the front collision sensor came on and the car came to a sudden stop. There were no debris, objects on the road. I took the car to Nissan dealership and the technician recalibrated the sensors. Technician confirmed the issue was part of the "soft" recall and he reassured me the recalibration will prevent this from happening again. A few months later this happened again while driving on the freeway at 65miles/hr in a clear day. Front collision sensor came on and the car came to a sudden stop. Taking the car back to the dealership to have the sensors inspected again. This is very dangerous as I could have gotten into a serious and life threatening accident if there were other vehicles around me going at 65miles/hr.

I WAS DRIVING IN REGULAR TRAFFIC (35-35) MILES PER HOUR WHEN THE CAR SUDDENLY FLASHED EMERGENCY BRAKE WARNINGS AND SLAMMED TO A GRINDING HALT IN THE MIDDLE OF TRAFFIC. I THOUGHT I HAD BLOWN A TIRE OR HIT SOMETHING, SO I PULLED OFF THE ROAD TO CHECK AND SEE WHAT WAS HAPPENING. NO ONE WAS AROUND ME IN FRONT OR BEHIND. I HAD ENOUGH TIME TO GET OUT OF MY VEHICLE AFTER PULLING OFF INTO THE MEDIAN AND CIRCLE AROUND THE VEHICLE BEFORE ANY CARS PASSED. APPARENTLY, THERE IS A CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT GOING FOR THE 2017 AND 2018 MODEL ROGUE FOR THIS AEB ISSUE. IT IS STILL HAPPENING ON THE 2019 AS WELL.
