AIR BAGS:SENSOR:OCCUPANT CLASSIFICATION
Nissan North America, Inc. (Nissan) is recalling certain model year 2016-2017 Nissan Maxima, 2013-2016 Nissan Altima, NV200, LEAF, Sentra, and Pathfinder, 2014-2016 Nissan NV200 Taxi, Infiniti QX60, QX60 Hybrid, and Q50 Hybrid, 2014-2017 Nissan Rogue and Infiniti Q50, 2015-2016 Nissan Murano, Murano Hybrid, and Chevrolet City Express, 2014-2015 Nissan Pathfinder Hybrid, and 2013 Infiniti JX35 vehicles. In these vehicles, the front seat passenger Occupant Classification System (OCS) may incorrectly classify an adult passenger as a child or classify the seat as empty despite it being occupied. As a result, the passenger frontal air bag may be turned off and not deploy in the event of a crash.
Fix: Nissan will notify their owners. Chevrolet City Express owners will be notified by General Motors. Dealers will reprogram the Air Bag Control Unit (ACU) and OCS Electronic Control Unit (ECU) in Altima, Maxima, Murano, Rogue, and Sentra vehicles, and replace the OCS ECU in LEAF, NV200, NV200 Taxi, Pathfinder, Infiniti Q50, JX35, and QX60 and Chevrolet City Express vehicles, free of charge. Interim notices were sent to owners on May 31, 2016. Owners will receive a second notice when remedy parts become available. Owners may contact Nissan customer service at 1-800-867-7669, Infiniti customer service at 1-888-833-3216 or Chevrolet customer service at 1-800-222-1020.

Nissan North America, Inc. (Nissan) is recalling certain model year 2013-2015 Altima and Pathfinder vehicles, 2013-2014 Nissan Sentra vehicles, 2013 Infiniti JX35 vehicles, 2014-2015 Infiniti QX60 vehicles and 2014 Infiniti QX60 Hybrid vehicles. The affected vehicles received an incorrect occupant classification system (OCS) control unit during a repair. These OCS control units may incorrectly classify the front passenger seat as empty, when it is occupied by an adult.
Fix: Nissan will notify owners, and dealers will update the OCS software, free of charge. The recall began on November 30, 2015. Owners may contact Nissan at 1-800-647-7261.
AIR BAGS:FRONTAL
Nissan North America Inc. (Nissan) is recalling certain 2014 Pathfinders manufactured from July 25, 2013, to September 5, 2013 with Almond interiors only. The instrument panel tear seam on the passenger frontal air bag was incorrectly cut on the back side of the instrument panel which could cause the air bag to not deploy properly.
Fix: Nissan will notify owners, and dealers will replace the affected instrument panel assemblies, free of charge. The recall began on November 18, 2013. Owners may contact Nissan Customer Service at 1-800-647-7261.

MY PASSENGER SEAT STOPPED SENSING SOMEONE SITTING IN THE SEAT AND WOULDN'T TURN ON. THEN, A COUPLE DAYS LATER THE AIRBAG LIGHT CAME ON FLASHING. I WAS NOT IN ANY KIND OF ACCIDENT WHATSOEVER NOR WAS THERE A REASON FOR THIS TO HAPPEN. MEDFORD NISSAN TOLD ME THEY WOULD NOT REPAIR IT THAT I HAD TO PAY 120.00 JUST FOR THEM TO DETECT WHAT WAS WRONG. THEN THEY WANTED ME TO PAY TO FIX IT. I DID NOTHING THAT WOULD CAUSE THIS TO HAPPEN. SCROLLING THROUGH AIRBAG COMPLAINTS FROM THE 2014 NISSAN PATHFINDERS IT LOOKS LIKE THIS IS A COMMON ISSUE.
2014 PATHFINDER SV HYBRID 4WD PASSEGER AIRBAG SENSOR FRAME AND WIRING NEEDS TO BE REPLACED. THE PASSENGER AIRBAG IS ALWAYS DEACTIVATED, EVEN IF AN ADULT PASSENGER IS SEATED IN IT, THERE IS ALSO AN AIRBAG WARNING LIGHT THAT FLASHES ON THE DASHBOARD. NISSAN'S OCS SYSTEM SEEMS TO BE FREQUENTLY COMPLAINED ABOUT ONLINE. THE DEALER SAYS THAT THIS IS JUST WEAR AND TEAR, WHICH I DON'T REALLY UNDERSTAND HOW A FRAME AND HARNESS FOR THE OCS (WHICH THEY SAY NEEDS TO BE REPLACED FOR $1200) COULD BE A WEAR AND TEAR ISSUE. I JUST WANTED TO REPORT THIS ISSUE IN CASE THERE HAVE BEEN OTHERS WHO HAVE HAD THE SAME PROBLEM, AS THERE SEEMS TO HAVE ALREADY BEEN MANY RECALLS FOR THE AIRBAG SYSTEM IN THIS CAR.
SINCE I GOT THE CAR THEY HAVE BEEN WORKING ON A SENSOR ON THE PASSENGER SIDE.. FIRST THE AIR BAG SENSOR THEN THE SEAT BELT SENSOR. NOW THE AIR BAG IS TOTALLY OFF AND WONT COME BACK ON.. THEY ARE TELLING ME THE WARRANTY IS OVER THIS IS A MANUFACTURING DEFECT AND I WANT NISSAN TO PAY FOR THE REPAIR.. IT IS NO LONGER SAFE TO HAVE A PASSENGER WITH ME IN THE FRONT WHAT CAN I DO?
BOUGHT CAR A YEAR AGO, EVERYTHING FINE. THEN ALL OF A SUDDEN THE PASSENGER SIDE AIRBAG STOPPED WORKING OR STOPPED DETECTING ANYONE SITTING IN THE FRONT SEAT. AN APPARENT KNOWN ISSUE FOR NISSAN FROM 2013-2017. I WAS DRIVING WHILE I HAD A PASSENGER IN THE FRONT SEAT AND NOTICED THE AIRBAG WAS TURNED OFF. AND LIGHT WAS FLASHING. THE PERSON WAS OVER THE WEIGHT LIMIT THAT TURNS IT OFF. I TRIED REACHING OUT TO NISSAN AND THEY STATED IT'S ONLY VIN SPECIFIC BUT YET IT'S A KNOWN ISSUE FOR THIS YEAR AND MODEL AS WELL AS MANY OTHERS.
ON 7/19/19, MY CAR WAS SERVICED FOR BROKEN PASSENGER AIRBAG SENSOR DUE TO TECHNICIAN FINDING WATER BOTTLE UNDERNEATH THE PASSENGER SIDE SEAT. PAID $638 FOR THE REPLACEMENT. LESSON LEARNED, NO WATER BOTTLES ALLOWED IN CAR. LESS THAN 2 MONTHS LATER, ON 9/12/19, THE PASSENGER SIDE AIRBAG LIGHTS GO ON AGAIN!! BROUGHT CAR TO SERVICE ON 9/19 AND TECHNICIAN FINDS CLIP TO SENSOR SNAPPED. NO WATER BOTTLE, NO KNOWN REASON WHY THE SENSOR IS BROKEN. HAD TO PAY ANOTHER $189 TO REPLACE IT AGAIN!! I'M TIRE OF THIS PATTERN IF YOU JUST SIT IN THE PASSENGER SEAT, OR BREATHE THERE, THE SENSOR WILL BREAK!! NISSAN HAS DONE A HORRIBLE JOB AT DESIGNING A PROTECTIVE AREA AROUND THE AIRBAG SENSOR!! I CONTACTED CONSUMER SERVICES AT NISSAN AND THEY JUST TOLD ME THEY WILL REVIEW THE CASE AND IT IS NOT THEIR FAULT AFTER MY CAR IS NO LONGER UNDER WARRANTY. I AM FURIOUS AND EVEN MORE CONCERNED THAT THERE WILL BE MORE SENSOR FAILURES AND AIRBAG MALFUNCTIONS IN THE NEAR FUTURE!! I FEEL NISSAN'S POOR QUALITY IS DISRUPTING MY FAMILY LIFE AND MY WORK. CAR WAS DELIVERED NEW WITH FRONT HEADRESTS INSTALLED BACKWARDS. DRIVER'S VISOR WAS SNAPPING LOUDLY AND DROOPING FROM NEW. REPLACED 11/14/2014. OCS RECALL, ATTEMPTED REPAIR 4/23/2014, 11/14/14, 4/7/2015, 11/19/2015, 12/8/2015 AND PASSENGER SIDE AIRBAG LIGHT REMAINS ON ALWAYS, TO THIS DAY! HOOD HAS VIBRATED AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS SINCE NEW. RECALL FOR HOOD LATCH FIXED 4/7/2015. HOOD STILL VIBRATES. PASSENGER VISOR REPLACED 2/23/2017 FOR SAME AS DRIVER'S. DRIVER'S INNER DOOR HANDLE BROKE. COULDN'T OPEN FROM INSIDE. REPLACED 9/10/2018 AT COST OF $296.29. MULTIPLE EXTERIOR RUBBER AND PLASTIC TRIMS ARE LOOSE, COMING OFF, AND INTERIOR GASKET ON ONE REAR DOOR AND TAILGATE.
AIRBAG LIGHT ON DASH BOARD STAYS ON. PASSENGER SIDE AIRBAG LIGHT WILL NOT TURN OFF.
THE BATTERY WOULD NOT STAY LOCKED IN PLACE AND THIS SEEMED TO IMPACT THE MILEAGE STARTING OVER AND DID NOT KEEP ACCURATE AMOUNT OF GAS IN VEHICLE. MY TRANSMISSION WAS GOING OUT; FELT AS IF SOMETHING WAS BEING DRAGGED WHILE DRIVING. I HAVE HAD TO PURCHASE TIRES TWICE SINCE BUYING THE VEHICLE EVEN WITH GETTING ROTATIONS EVERY OTHER OIL CHANGE.
PASSENGER AIRBAG LIGHT (INDICATING AIRBAG OFF) REMAINS ON AT TIMES WHEN ADULT PASSENGER PRESENT. ALSO, LIGHT OFTEN GOES OFF WHEN NO PASSENGER PRESENT. THIS IS THE OPPOSITE OF WHAT IT SHOULD BE. CAR HAS BEEN RETURNED TO DEALER MANY TIMES, BUT PROBLEM PERSISTS.
MY VEHICLE IS REPORTING TO ME THAT THE PASSENGER SIDE AIRBAG IS OFF. EVEN WHEN A PASSENGER IS SEATED IN THE SEAT AND THE VEHICLE IS DRIVER, THE AIRBAG LIGHT STAYS ON. IT CAME ON 3 MONTHS AFTER PURCHASE AND THE DEALER STATES THEY WILL HAVE TO CHARGE ME TO CHECK THE ISSUE. IT SEEMS THIS IS A MAJOR ISSUE WITH THIS YEAR AND MODEL PATHFINDER. THE LIGHT DOES NOT TURN OFF. IVE TRIED RESETTING TRICKS AND STILL NO RESULT.
WHILE DRIVING APPROX 20 MPH I BUMPED AGAINST THE CURB ON THE ROAD I WAS DRIVING. THIS INSIGNIFICANT BUMP CAUSED THE ENTIRE PASSENGER SIDE CURTAIN AIRBAG AND PASSENGER SEAT AIRBAG TO DEPLOY. MY WIFE AND SON WERE TAKEN TO THE ER. VEHICLE WAS NOT STRUCK, NO BODY DAMAGE, SOME CURB RASH ON THE WHEELS. OVER AGGRESSIVE AIR BAG INFLATION.
I STARTED SEEING THE AIRBAG INDICATOR FLASHING ON MY DASHBOARD. I TOOK IT TO NISSAN CAR DEALER. THEY TOLD ME THAT THERE WAS A WATER BOTTLE THAT ROLLED UNDER THE PASSENGER SEAT AND CAUSED THE SENSOR TO BREAK. I BELIEVE THAT IS A BAD DESIGN FROM NISSAN, THAT ALLOWS A CRITICAL SENSOR TO BREAK EASILY BY A SOFT WATER BOTTLE THAT ROLLED UNDER THE SEAT, CAUSE THE AIRBAG NOT TO DEPLOY, WHICH CAN CAUSE SERIOUS INJURIES TO ME OR A FAMILY MEMBER SITTING IN THE PASSENGER SEAT. THERE IS A RECALL ALREADY RELATED TO THAT SENSOR, THAT CAN CAUSE THE AIRBAG NOT TO DEPLOY, BUT I THINK PROTECTING THE SENSOR UNDER THE SEAT IS A VERY SERIOUS ISSUE, THAT NEEDS TO BE INVESTIGATED. I WAS DRIVING THE VEHICLE FOR SOMETIME BEFORE NOTICING THAT THERE MIGHT BE AN AIRBAG ISSUE.
I CHECKED YOUR SITE AND FOUND NO RECALLS FOR MY WIFE'S VEHICLE. LAST THURSDAY 6/15 AT 5:15 I WAS ABOUT TO MERGE INTO AN EMPTY MERGE LANE WHEN I THOUGHT WE WERE HIT ON THE DRIVERS SIDE. THE DRIVER SIDE CURTAIN AIR BAG HAD DEPLOYED. IMMEDIATELY PULLING OVER AND VACATING ALL FROM THE SUV I CHECKED THE EXTERIOR DAMAGE AND FOUND NONE. HAD JUST COME AROUND A SLOW CURVE AND WAS DRIVING STRAIGHT WITH ALL THE WINDOWS OPEN, I WAS ACCELERATING FROM 25 TO GET UP TO 50 WHEN WE FELT THE EXPLOSION. HUMIDITY WAS ABOUT 80%. I AM ON BLOOD THINNERS AND MY DOCTOR IS WATCHING FOR SIGNS OF A BRAIN BLEED. MY LEFT ARM WAS BRUISED BEHIND THE ELBOW AND MY FOREARM HAD A 1ST DEGREE BURN. 34008 MILES ARE THERE OTHER INSTANCES OF PATHFINDER AIR BAGS DEPLOYING ON THEIR OWN.

I WAS TOLD THE LIGHT WAS SUPPOSED TO STAY ON AND ONLY GO OFF IF IT DETECTED SOMEONE IN THE SEAT. THIS DOES NOT SOUND CORRECT. I DID NOT HAVE THIS PROBLEM PRIOR TO HAVING THE OSC SOFTWARE PUT INTO MY VEHICLE. NOW THE AIRBAG LIGHT STAYS ON CONSTANTLY AS THOUGH THERE IS SOMETHING WRONG WITH THE PASSENGER AIR BAG. RECALL 16V-244. I WAS NOTIFIED IN MAY ABOUT THIS RECALL BY NISSAN BUT NO PARTS ARE STILL AVAILABLE FOR REPAIR. THIS IS AN AIR-BAG SAFETY ISSUE. NISSAN NEEDS TO MADE THIS RECALL A HIGHER PRIORITY.
I HAVE RECEIVED TWO SAFETY RECALL NOTICES FROM NISSAN STATING THAT I NEED TO TAKE MY VEHICLE IN TO GET A PASSENGER AIRBAG ISSUE CORRECTED. HOWEVER, I TOOK MY CAR TO AUTO NATION NISSAN ABOUT A MONTH AGO AND WAS ADVISED THAT THEY WOULD HAVE TO ORDER A PART TO FIX THIS RECALL AND THEY WOULD CALL ME WHEN THE PART CAME IN. THEY DID NOT CALL ME AND AFTER A FEW WEEKS I CALLED BACK AND WAS TOLD THAT THE PART HAS NOT COME IN YET AS THERE ARE SO MANY VEHICLES THAT NEED THIS RECALL AND NISSAN DOES NOT HAVE THE PARTS TO HANDLE ALL OF THE REQUESTS. I WAS ADVISED THAT SOMEONE WOULD CALL ME TO DISCUSS THIS AND I NEVER RECEIVED THAT PHONE CALL. MY SON (WEIGHT ABOUT 105 LBS) IS OFTEN IN THE FRONT PASSENGER SEAT AND SOMETIMES THE AIRBAG LIGHT IS ON AND SOMETIMES IT IS OFF, SO I DO NOT TRUST IT TO FUNCTION PROPERLY IN THE EVENT OF AN ACCIDENT. I SIMPLY WANT TO HAVE THIS RECALL HANDLED ASAP BY NISSAN. PLEASE LET ME KNOW IF THERE IS ANYTHING ELSE THAT CAN BE DONE. TAKATA RECALL AIRBAGS FAILED WHEN I WAS DOING 5 MPH AND WAS SIDE SWIPED. THE FIRE DEPT HAD TO CUT ME OUT OF THE VEHICLE. I NEEDED STAPLES IN MY HEAD AND WAS UNCONSCIOUS BECAUSE THE OTHER DRIVER WAS DOING 20_30 MPH ACCORDING TO POLICE REPORT. NISSAN REFUSED TO CHANGE ME INTO A NEW VEHICLE DESPITE MY DISABLED STATUS AND FEAR OF DRIVING IT. I CALLED TWICE AND WENT BY DEALER WHO AGREED THE SHOULD HAVE WORKED.
I HAVE RECEIVED NOTIFICATION TWICE NOW FROM NISSAN, THAT THE OCS HAS A RECALL AND IS A SAFETY ISSUE. IF THE OCS IS NOT WORKING RIGHT, THE AIRBAG WON'T DEPLOY CORRECTLY. I HAVE CONTACTED NISSAN MULTIPLE TIMES OVER THE PAST SEVERAL MONTHS TO GET THIS FIXED AND THEY SAY THEY DON'T HAVE THE PARTS TO FIX THIS RECALL. MAJOR SAFETY CONCERN!

I RECEIVED A NOTICE OF RECALL (NHTSA RECALL 16V-244) 3 MONTHS AGO HOWEVER HAVE BEEN UNABLE TO GET NISSAN TO REPAIR PASSENGER AIRBAG. THEY CLAIM THEY CAN'T GET THE PARTS. I REPORTED THIS PROBLEM SEVERAL TIMES SINCE 2014 TO NO AVAIL. IT WASN'T UNTIL RECALL THAT NISSAN EVEN ACKNOWLEDGED THIS PROBLEM. NISSAN SUPPORSEDLY RELOADED SOFTWARE WHICH SOLVED PROBLEM, EVEN THOUGH WE CONTINUED TO HAVE INDICATION FROM DASHBOARD LIGHT OF NON-ENGAGEMENT WHEN SEAT WAS OCCUPIED. NOW ALMOST TWO YEAR LATER WE RECEIVE THIS RECALL NOTICE. SCHEDULED RECALL FIX APPOINTMENT WITH PRIORITY NISSAN CHANTILLY SERVICE DEPARTMENT FOR 6/29/16 AND WAS RECONFIRMED FOR APPOINTMENT BY DEALERSHIP ON THREE SEPARATE OCCASIONS. UPON ARRIVAL AT SCHEDULE APPOINTMENT (0800, 6/29/16) WAS RUDELY INFORMED BY DEALERSHIP THAT NO PARTS WERE AVAILABLE FOR FIX. WE HAD A NEW 2014 NISSAN PATHFINDER THAT WAS LESS THAN A YEAR OLD. WE WERE HIT FROM BEHIND INTO ANOTHER CAR. IT WAS ENOUGH IMPACT TO TOTAL A NEW CAR. THE SIDE AIRBAGS DEPLOYED WHEN THE IMPACT WAS FRONT/BACK. NEITHER THE DRIVER OR THE PASSENGER AIRBAGS DEPLOYED. I HAD A LOT OF BRUISING FROM THE SEAT BELT & MY HUSBAND HAD A HEAD RELATED INJURY LIKE A CONCUSSION DUE TO THE IMPACT AS WELL AS US BOTH HAVING BACK PAIN ISSUES. I FEEL THAT IF I HADN'T BEEN WEARING MY SEAT BELT SEEING HOW BADLY I WAS BRUISED & A KNOT IN MY BREAST FROM THE IMPACT THAT I WOULD HAVE DEFINITELY HIT THE WINDSHIELD OR WORSE. I WAS IN A MUCH LESS SEVERE ACCIDENT WHEN I WAS A CHILD & HIT MY HEAD ON THE WINDSHIELD. THAT IS WHY I FEEL VERY STRONGLY THAT IF I HADN'T BEEN WEARING MY SEAT BELT, IT FAILED,ETC THAT I WOULD HAVE HIT THE WINDSHIELD. I HAVE PERSONAL EXPERIENCE UNFORTUNATELY BEFORE I REALIZED HOW IMPORTANT SEAT BELTS WERE. WE ALWAYS WONDERED WHY THE FRONT AIRBAGS (BOTH PASSENGER AND DRIVER) DIDN'T DEPLOY CONSIDERING THE IMPACT WAS FROM THE REAR AND FRONT. NOW THAT THERE IS A RECALL, IT MAKES PERFECT SENSE. THE SIDE PASSENGER AIRBAGS DID DEPLOY, BUT NOT THE FRONT PASSENGER... OR DRIVER FOR THAT MATTER. WE WERE COMPLETELY STOPPED IN A TUNNEL DUE TO A QUICK TRAFFIC PROBLEM WHEN THE CAR BEHIND US HIT US. THE IMPACT WAS HARD ENOUGH TO PUSH US INTO THE STOPPED CAR IN FRONT OF US. THEY HAD TO CLOSE THE TUNNEL DOWN TO TOW OUR CAR AS WELL AS THE CAR BEHIND US OUT OF THE TUNNEL. 2 OF 3 CARS WERE NOT DRIVE-ABLE AND OUR CAR WAS TOTALED. I AM SURE THE CAR BEHIND US WAS TOTALED ALSO. SOMEONE RAN INTO MY CAR AND THE AIRBAG DEPLOYED AND CAUSED A MILD CONCUSSION AND BURNED ON MY CHEST AREA. ALSO, THE SEATBELTS CAME LOOSE UPON IMPACT. WE WERE TURNING LEFT AND SOMEONE RAN A RED LIGHT AND HIT THE SIDE OF THE PATHFINDER.
PASSENGER SIDE AIRBAG TURNS OFF WITH ADULT SITTING IN PASSENGER SEAT. THE MALFUNCTION OCCURS WHEN SITTING STILL OR IN MOTION. THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN TO THE DEALERSHIP 6 TIMES FOR THE ISSUE. THE IMPLEMENTATION OF THE RECALL WAS THE FIRST ATTEMPT TO FIX THE PROBLEM. THREE ATTEMPTS LATER NISSAN DIRECTED THE DEALERSHIP TO REPLACE ALL COMPONENTS FOR THE PASSENGER SIDE AIRBAG AND THE PROBLEM IS NOT FIXED. CONTRARY TO THE DEALERS FINDING, THE OCS LIGHT STILL COMES ON AT LEAST ONCE A WEEK. DATE AND TIMES ARE BEING RECORDED. THIS WILL BECOME A VERY UNSAFE SITUATION IN THE EVENT I DO NOT NOTICE THAT THE LIGHT IS ON AND AN ACCIDENT WERE TO OCCUR. AN OUTSIDE SOURCE HAS TOLD ME THAT THIS IS A SOFTWARE ISSUE BECAUSE IF I TURN THE CAR OFF WHEN THE LIGHT IS ON, THE LIGHT WILL GO OFF. NISSAN HAS NO IDEA HOW TO FIX THIS PROBLEM.
WE HAVE TAKEN THIS VEHICLE IN FOUR TIMES TO NISSAN TO BE FIXED AND THE AIRBAG SENSOR LIGHT STILL COMES ON WHEN AN ADULT SITS IN THE PASSENGER SEAT WHILE THE VEHICLE IS MOVING.
THE AIRBAG SENSOR DOES NOT CONSISTENTLY ACKNOWLEDGE THERE IS A PASSENGER SITTING IN THE FRONT PASSENGER SEAT. THERE HAS BEEN A PREVIOUS RECALL (14V138000) FOR THIS EXACT ISSUE BUT DOESN'T INCLUDE MY VIN. MY LOCAL DEALERSHIP (PEORIA NISSAN) REFUSED TO DO ANYTHING TO THE CAR SINCE IT WASN'T IMPACTED BY THE RECALL. THEY TOLD ME TO CONTACT NISSAN CORPORATE. I CONTACTED NISSAN CONSUMER AFFAIRS (CASE # 20615944) AND THEY TOLD ME THE REASON THE AIRBAG SENSOR DOESN'T RECOGNIZE A PASSENGER IS BECAUSE MY WIFE WEIGHS 120 LBS. THE VEHICLE ISN'T DESIGNED TO PICK UP AN INDIVIDUAL OF THAT STATURE 100% OF THE TIME. I BELIEVE THIS IS COMPLETELY RIDICULOUS AND THEY JUST DON'T WANT TO EXPAND THEIR PREVIOUS RECALL. I'M IN FEAR FOR THE SAFETY OF MY WIFE WHO ROUTINELY SITS IN THAT SEAT AND ISN'T RECOGNIZED BY THE AIRBAG. THIS HAPPENS BOTH AFTER STARTING THE VEHICLE OR WHILE DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD (AIRBAG LIGHT RANDOMLY COMES ON IDENTIFYING NOT IN USE).
THE PASSENGER AIRBAG OFF LIGHT WILL COME ON EVEN WITH AN ADULT PASSENGER SEATED. HAVE TAKE THIS TO THE DEALER SERVICE DEPARTMENT AND THEY WERE UNABLE TO REPEAT THE EVENT. STILL HAVING THIS ISSUE. MOSTLY SEEMS TO HAPPEN IF THE OCCUPANCY CHANGES WHILE CAR IS RUNNING. (I.E. PASSENGER GETS IN AFTER CAR IS RUNNING)
THE "PASSENGER AIR BAG LIGHT OFF" IS ILLUMINATED EVEN THOUGH AN ADULT IS SITTING IN THE PASSENGER SEAT. THIS SEEMS TO HAPPEN MORE FREQUENTLY WHEN THE OCCUPANCY IS CHANGED WHILE THE VEHICLE IS RUNNING. THE VEHICLE WILL HAVE TO BE TURNED OFF, THEN RESTARTED TO CLEAR THIS CONDITION. THIS SEEMS TO HAPPEN LESS FREQUENTLY IF THE ADULT IS SITTING IN THE PASSENGER SEAT BEFORE THE VEHICLE IS STARTED. THIS HAS HAPPENED MULTIPLE TIMES SINCE OUR PURCHASE. WE HAVE HAD TO THE DEALER MULTIPLE TIMES FOR THIS ISSUE. THEY CAN'T EVER SEEM TO DUPLICATE IT WHILE THEY HAVE THE VEHICLE. THEY SUPPOSEDLY REPROGRAM ONE OF THE COMPUTERS, BUT THIS CONDITION IS STILL HAPPENING.

PASSENGER AIRBAG DOES NOT CONSISTENTLY DEPLOY WHEN PASSENGER IN IN THE SEAT.
THE AIRBAG IN THE PASSENGER SEAT SHOWS AS "OFF" EVEN WHEN A FULL GROWN ADULT SITS IN THE SEAT. THE ISSUE IS INTERMITTENT BUT HAS BEEN HAPPENING FOR QUITE SOME TIME. COMMUNICATIONS WITH NISSAN CONSUMER AFFAIRS HAVE RESULTED IN NO SOLUTION. THEY HAVE INDICATED THAT SINCE THE COMPUTER IS NOT SHOWING AN ERROR CODE THEY CANNOT FIX IT. THEY DID NOT ACKNOWLEDGE THE LONG STRING OF CUSTOMER COMPLAINTS ON THE SUBJECT.
THE PASSENGER AIRBAG OFF INDICATOR LIGHT IS COMING ON WHEN THERE IS A ADULT PASSENGER IS IN THE SEAT. AFTER REPEATED COMPLAINTS ON IT, NOTHING HAS BEEN DONE BY THE NISSAN SERVICE CENTER TO RESOLVE THE ISSUE. I AM FORCED TO VIDEO CAPTURE EVERY THING WHILE DRIVING TO SHOW IT AS A EVIDENCE, AS THEY ARE NOT TAKING THIS SERIOUSLY.
THE PASSENGER SIDE AIRBAG LIGHT WAS STAYING ON IN MY CAR, I TOOK IT TO RAY SHULTENS AND THEY PUT IN NEW SENSORS AND RECALIBRATED THE SEAT. THE DAY AFTER THE REPAIR AS WE WERE DRIVING ON THE INTERSTATE I NOTICED THE LIGHT WAS ON AND MY SON WAS IN THE SEAT. HIM SHIFTING IN THE SEAT DID NOT CHANGE ANYTHING AND THE LIGHT STAYED ON WHICH INDICATES THE AIRBAGS WILL NOT DEPLOY ON THE PASSENGER SIDE IF WE WERE IN AN ACCIDENT. I HAD TO PULL OFF THE INTERSTATE, HAVE HIM GET OUT AND RESTART THE CAR. THIS HAPPENED AGAIN THIS PAST WEEKEND WITH MYSELF AS THE PASSENGER ( GROWN ADULT 5'6", 140 LBS). TODAY I TOOK IT INTO THE DEALERSHIP FOR REPAIR, BUT WAS TOLD THEY COULDNT COME UP WITH ANY DIAGNOSTIC CODES AND " THAT THIS IS HOW THE SYSTEM WORKS, THERE IS NO WEIGHT LIMITATION ON THE SYSTEM AND IF YOU SHIFT IN THE SEATS IT COULD TURN OFF THE AIRBAG, AND THAT THIS IS NORMAL AND HOW THE SYSTEM WAS DESIGNED". I AM CONCERNED FOR THE SAFETY ANYONE DRIVING IN THIS CAR AS A PASSENGER. IT IS UNBELIEVABLE TO ME THAT THIS CAN BE CONSIDERED "NORMAL". THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE AND MY CAR SHOULD HAVE A PASSENGER SIDE AIRBAG IN IT THAT WORKS!
I HAVE TAKEN MY NISSAN TO THE DEALERSHIP 5 TIMES NOW FOR THE SAME ISSUE. THE AIRBAG LIGHT COMES ON, INDICATING THAT THE AIRBAG IS DEACTIVATED, EVEN WHEN I AM SITTING ON THE FRONT PASSENGER SIDE OF THE CAR. I AM AN ADULT WOMEN. I BROUGHT IT UP TO THEIR ATTENTION - THEY COULD NOT DUPLICATE THE ISSUE. I TOLD THEM THAT IT DOES NOT DO IT ALL THE TIME. THEN IT HAPPENED AGAIN - I TOOK A PICTURE, THEY SAID THE SAME THING AND DID WHATEVER TO IT - KEPT MY CAR FOR A MONTH, I WENT TO PICK IT UP AND IT DID IT AGAIN, WHILE DRIVING. THIS TIME I TOOK A VIDEO, CALLED IT IN TO NISSAN, AGAIN. THEY CALLED IN A SPECIALIST (WHY THEY DIDN'T DO IT WHEN THEY HAD THE CAR FOR A MONTH IS BEYOND ME). HE LOOKED AT IT AND SAID THERE WAS NOTHING WRONG WITH THE VEHICLE. HE CONTINUED BY SAYING THAT THE SEAT BELT IS ALL I REALLY NEEDED ANYWAY. THAT IF IT HAPPENS AGAIN I NEED TO TURN THE CAR OFF AND WAIT 10 SEC. AND THE CAR WOULD REALIGN ITSELF, THAT IT WAS PROBABLY DUE TO THE WAY I WAS SITTING ON THE SEAT AND THE CAR KNOWS WHAT TO DO. I AM DONE WITH NISSAN - THEY ARE BASICALLY TELLING ME THAT WHEN IT HAPPENS, LET'S SAY ON THE FREEWAY, AS IT HAS, IF I WANT THE AIRBAG, I NEED TO PULL TO THE SIDE OF THE FREEWAY (DANGEROUS), LET IT SIT FOR 10 SEC. AND THEN RE-JOIN TRAFFIC(DANGEROUS) OR I KEEP GOING WITHOUT THE BENEFIT OF THE AIRBAG. I BOUGHT THE CAR BECAUSE I WANTED A SAFE CAR FOR MY NEW GRANDCHILD - THE SALESMAN CAN TESTIFY TO THIS. I CAN'T TRUST THE CAR, I WILL NOT SIT ANYONE IN THE FRONT PASSAGE SEAT BECAUSE I DO NOT KNOW IF THE AIRBAG WILL WORK WHEN NEEDED - BUT THEN AGAIN, ACCORDING TO NISSAN - "ALL I REALLY NEED IS THE SEATBELT".
OVER THE LAST 6 MONTHS THE FRONT PASSENGER AIR BAG LIGHT WILL COME ON OCCASIONALLY INDICATING THE AIR BAG IS NOT WORKING EVEN THOUGH THERE IS AN ADULT IN THE SEAT THAT WEIGHS OVER 140 POUNDS. ONCE WE DROVE IT THAT WAY TO THE NISSAN DEALER WHERE THE SERVICE MANAGER SAW THE LIGHT ON BUT SAID THEY HAD NO WAY TO FIX IT. WE HAVE NO IDEA IF THE AIRBAG WOULD WORK IF IN AN ACCIDENT. THE LATEST INCIDENT WAS JULY 17, 2015.

PASSENGER AIR BAG LIGHT STAYED ON WITH A PASSENGER WEIGHTING 195# OCCUPYING PASSENGER SEAT, LIGHT STAYED ON FOR APPROX 5 MINUTES. THIS IS AT LEAST THE FOURTH TIME LIGHT HAS BEEN ON FOR DIFFERENT LENGTHS OF TIME UP TO AROUND 20 MINUTES AT INTERSTATE SPEEDS. HAVE HAD TO NISSAN DEALER ON 4 DIFFERENT OCCASIONS AND BEEN TOLD NO PROBLEM FOUND. *TR

I HAD THE SAME PROBLEM WITH A 2013 PATHFINDER WHICH WAS REPLACED WITH THE 2014. IN THE EVENT OF A CRASH THIS COULD RESULT IN MORE SERIOUS INJURIES OR DEATH IF AIR BAG DID NOT DEPLOY. *TR
WITHIN A FEW WEEK OF PURCHASING THE VEHICLE WE RECEIVED A RECALL ON THE AIR BAGS CONCERNING THE PASSENGER AIR BAG AND A SMALL PERSON. THIS WAS PERFORMED. LATER THE WARNING LIGHT WOULD COME ON WHEN MY WIFE, 106 POUNDS, WAS RIDING AS A PASSENGER. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER AND THEY HAD IT FOR A FEW DAYS AND I BELIEVE REPLACED SOMETHING. THE PROBLEM CONTINUED, INTERMITTENTLY, WHEN MY WIFE SAT IN THE PASSENGER SEAT. I RETURNED THE CAR TO A DEALER TWO WEEKS AGO AND ALL THEY DID WAS GIVE ME SEVERAL SHEETS OF PAPERS, MOSTLY FROM THE HANDBOOK, ABOUT HOW THE PERSON MUST SIT IN THE SEAT, IN THE CENTER WITH THEIR BACK AGAINST THE SEAT BACK, FEET ON THE FLOOR, THE HEATER FAN OFF AND EVEN IF THE AIR BAG DID NOT DEPLOY THEY WERE STILL WELL PROTECTED. THEY ALSO SAID, IN SO MANY WORDS, THAT THIS WAS ALL THEY WERE ALLOWED TO DO. IN OTHER WORDS NISSAN WAS NOT GOING TO DO ANYTHING. TO EXPENSIVE I GUESS. A FRIEND OF OURS WORKS FOR NISSAN AND TOLD US THAT NISSAN IS WELL AWARE OF THIS PROBLEM AND HAS NO PLANS TO DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT. HE ALSO INDICATED THAT IT WAS JUST NOT A PATHFINDER PROBLEM. SO WE HAVE A THIRTY THOUSAND DOLLAR CAR AND MY WIFE HAS TO SIT IN THE BACK SEAT TO BE REALLY SAVE, OR RISK INJURY OR DEATH IF WE HAVE A CRASH AND THE AIR BAG DOES NOT DEPLOY. *TR

PASSENGER AIR BAG DOES NOT DETECT ADULT IN SEAT AND SUDDENLY TURNS AIR BAG OFF WHILE VEHICLE IS MOVING, INDICATED BY AIR BAG LIGHT. THE PROBLEM IS INTERMITTENT AND CAN BE TEMPORARILY ADDRESSED BY CYCLING VEHICLE POWER. IMPORTANT TO NOTE IS THAT THE PROBLEM OCCURS AFTER VEHICLE WAS RETURNED TO DEALER DUE TO THE 2ND RECALL NOTICE IN THIS REGARD. *TR
THE AIR BAG LIGHT ISSUE ON THE NISSAN PATHFINDER CONTINUES TO BE AN ISSUE FOR ME. I HAVE BROUGHT THE CAR IN TO THE SERVICE CENTER IN EXCESS OF 5 TIMES OVER THE COURSE THAT I HAVE HAD THE CAR (PURCHASED IN OCTOBER 2013) FOR THE AIR BAG LIGHT ISSUE. WHEN A PASSENGER SITS IN THE SEAT, THE AIR BAG OFF LIGHT MAY STAY ON DURING THE COURSE OF THE DRIVE, INDICATING THAT THE AIR BAG IS TURNED OFF. THIS DOES NOT HAPPEN EVERY TIME A PASSENGER IS IN THE SEAT AND ONLY AT RANDOM TIMES. THE SERVICE CENTER HAS UPDATED THE SYSTEM PROGRAMMING IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE NISSAN PATHFINDER RECALL AGAINST THE AIRBAG ISSUE. THE SERVICE CENTER HAS ALSO REPLACED THE AIR BAG SENSOR. OVER THE COURSE OF TIME, NONE OF THESE "FIXES" HAVE RESOLVED THE ISSUE. I HAVE COME TO FIND THAT IT MAY BE A PROGRAMMING ISSUE WITH THE AIR BAG -- IF A PASSENGER IS NOT FULLY SEATED AND STILL AT THE MOMENT THE CAR IS TURNED ON, THE SENSOR WILL NOT PROPERLY REGISTER THE PASSENGER WEIGHT. TYPICALLY, WHEN THE WEIGHT IS UNDETERMINED OR CANNOT BE IMMEDIATELY READ, THE CAR WILL KEEP THE AIR BAG OFF LIGHT ON ASSUMING THAT IT FALLS OUTSIDE OF THE "ADULT WEIGHT" CATEGORY. THE LIGHT WILL REMAIN ON FOR AT LEAST ANOTHER 10 MINUTES OF DRIVING WHEN IT FINALLY RE-REGISTERS THE PASSENGER WEIGHT. THESE TYPES OF SITUATIONS CAN BE CHARACTERIZED IN MULTIPLE WAYS -- CAR TURNS ON AND PASSENGER IS STILL GETTING IN SEAT; PASSENGER SITS DOWN AS THE CAR IS TURNING ON; PASSENGER IS FULLY SEATED BUT SLIGHTLY MOVES DURING THE WEIGHT REGISTRATION; ETC. REGARDLESS OF THE SITUATION, WHEN THIS HAPPENS, THE DRIVER CAN DRIVE FOR A NUMBER OF MILES WITH NO AIR BAG UNTIL THE SENSOR RE-REGISTERS THE PASSENGER WEIGHT AND REALIZE AN ADULT IS IN THE SEAT. NISSAN'S PROGRAMMING OF THE AIR-BAG SENSOR IS NOT WITHIN THE FEDERAL MOTOR VEHICLE SAFETY STANDARDS FOR AIR BAG SAFETY. I REQUEST THAT THE NHTSA PLEASE REVIEW NISSAN'S AIR BAG PROGRAMMING AND VALIDATE SAFETY. *TR

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK TO THE DEALER WHO WAS UNABLE TO FIND ANY DEFECTS WITH THE AIR BAG SYSTEM. THE DEALER STATED THAT THE PASSENGER SIDE AIR BAG SHOULD DEACTIVATE FOR PASSENGERS UP TO 130 POUNDS. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 2,257.

IF THE VEHICLE WAS IN A CRASH AT THIS TIME, THE PASSENGER AIR BAG MAY NOT DEPLOY. THE VEHICLE WAS BROUGHT TO THE DEALER FOR REPAIRS, BUT THE DEALER COULD NOT DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM. *TR
