Kia America, Inc. (Kia) is recalling certain 2025 Kia K4, 2025-2026 Sorento, Sorento Hybrid, Sorento Plug-In Hybrid Electric (PHEV), 2026 Sportage, Sportage Hybrid, Sportage PHEV, K5, EV9, Carnival, and Carnival Hybrid vehicles. Due to a software error, the instrument panel display may fail. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) numbers 101, "Controls and Displays" and 138, "Tire Pressure Monitoring System."

Risk: An instrument panel display that fails to show critical safety information, such as the speedometer, tire pressure, or warning lights, increases the risk of a crash.

Fix: The instrument panel display software will be updated over-the-air (OTA) or by a dealer, free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed March 26, 2026. Owners may contact Kia Customer Service at 1-800-333-4542. Kia's number for this recall is SC361. Vehicle Identification Numbers (VINs) involved in this recall will become searchable on NHTSA.gov on February 9, 2026.

Your panoramic sunroof suddenly shattered and collapsed inward into the cabin while driving at 65 mph with no warning, impact, or prior damage visible. Glass fragments fell onto the driver's seat and interior, creating a safety hazard and driver distraction during highway driving. The Kia dealership denied warranty coverage for the repair. The failure appears to be a potential defect since it occurred without external impact in a nearly new vehicle.

Your car vibrates noticeably on the highway above 50 mph, with the interior panels on the left side of the driver's seat and right side of the center console shaking intensely—especially at 60 mph. The vibration is so strong that your foot becomes numb and you lose feeling in the accelerator pedal during extended high-speed driving. The dealer inspected it but claimed this is normal and cannot be fixed.

While driving your Sportage, you released the accelerator and applied the brakes to stop, but the brakes didn't respond and the vehicle maintained speed at about 15 mph, resulting in a collision with the vehicle in front of you. After the crash, the brakes worked normally again. Additionally, the Forward Collision Avoidance system did not activate during this incident.

CrashFiled: Mar 2026

Your lane assist system unexpectedly applied strong steering correction while your wife was making a normal left turn onto a side street, causing the steering wheel to jerk and resist her input. This sudden intervention made the vehicle veer toward a guardrail, resulting in a collision. The dashcam footage and police report confirmed the steering wheel jerked toward the guardrail, and your vehicle may be affected by a software issue that prevents warning lights from displaying on the instrument panel, meaning you wouldn't know if the lane assist system malfunctioned.

Filed: Dec 2025

Your dashboard display went dark while driving on the highway, leaving your speedometer, turn signals, and lane keep assist invisible—though Apple CarPlay remained on. This happened in a nearly new vehicle with under 200 miles, creating a serious safety concern since you couldn't see critical driving information. Your Kia dealer is investigating the issue. The fix will likely involve diagnosing and repairing the instrument cluster display or its electrical connections.

Filed: Dec 2025

Your car's fuel economy has been significantly worse than expected since you purchased it in September 2025, with actual mileage around 16-17 mpg instead of the EPA rating on the window sticker. When a check engine light appeared in December, the dealership found that your EVAP canister was split open and the under-shield was damaged—they claimed you caused the damage, but you haven't hit anything and there's no other undercarriage damage. The dealership says this damage is responsible for the poor fuel economy and is not covered under warranty, though you reported low mileage immediately after purchase, long before any visible damage occurred. The repair will likely involve replacing the EVAP canister and repairing or replacing the under-shield.

Filed: Nov 2025

Your instrument panel flickers on and off while driving, and your speedometer sometimes shows incorrect speeds even when stopped. You've also experienced jerking when accelerating at 25 MPH, and your headlights have turned off unexpectedly with warning messages appearing on the dashboard. The dealer has been unable to diagnose or fix the problem despite multiple visits, and the vehicle remains unrepaired.

Your windshield washer system isn't working on your new car. The dealer refused to repair it, claiming the vehicle has a mouse infestation and stating that the car's hoses and foam are made from soy-based materials that attract rodents. You believe this indicates a manufacturing defect rather than a maintenance issue.
