ALL 5 STUDS SHEERED OFF FROM THE DRIVERS SIDE REAR TIRE
THE RIGHT FRONT BRAKE HOSE BETWEEN THE FRAME MOUNT AND THE CONNECTING POINT ON THE BRAKE CYLINDER, BLEW OUT AT THE SNAP CONNECTION END. THIS RESULTED IN COMPLETE LOSS OF ALL HYDRAULIC BRAKING ABILITY. THE CAUSE OF THE BREAKAGE WAS DUE TO THE BRAKE HOSE RUBBING AGAINST THE INNER TIRE WALL WHENEVER THE TIRES WERE TURNED TO THE FULL STOP POSITION OF LEFT OR RIGHT DIRECTION. BOTH ( RIGHT AND LEFT ) BREAK HOSES RUB THE INSIDE OF THE TIRES. HAD I BEEN DRIVING AT THE TIME, THERE IS NO DOUBT THAT AN ACCIDENT WOULD HAVE OCCURRED POSSIBLY CAUSING INJURY OR EVEN DEATH TO PEOPLE. AS IT WAS, THE LINE BLEW WHEN I STEPPED ON THE BRAKE TO SHIFT INTO GEAR. I WAS IN A PARKING LOT. I DO HAVE PICTURES AVAILABLE PLUS THE DAMAGED PART FOR REVIEW.
I HAVE OWNED THIS VEHICLE FOR OVER FOUR YEARS. RECENTLY, I NEEDED TO REMOVE THE SPARE TIRE FOR THE FIRST TIME AND NOTICED A SEVERE CRACK IN THE HOUSING SUPPORT BRACKET THAT CONNECTED THE SPARE TO THE REAR GATE OF THE VEHICLE. THIS BRACKET HAS THREE LUG NUTS DESIGNED TO SUPPORT THE SPARE AND, BECAUSE OF THE CRACK, ONE OF THE LUGS WAS NOT PROVIDING ANY SUPPORT FOR THE APPROXIMATELY 150-POUND TIRE AND WHEEL. A CRACK AROUND ONE OF THE OTHER TWO LUGS WOULD LIKELY CAUSE A COMPLETE FAILURE OF THE HOUSING SUPPORT, AS I DOUBT ONE LUG COULD HOLD THE HEAVY SPARE AND WHEEL. I BELIEVE THIS PART SHOULD BE RECALLED IMMEDIATELY. *TR
MY 2007 JEEP UNLIMITED SAHARA HAS THE "DEATH WOBBLE." OCCURRED SEVERAL MONTHS AGO. MECHANIC COULDN'T FIGURE IT OUT, BUT PRESCRIBED TIRE INFLATION. PROBLEM WENT AWAY UNTIL ONE WEEK AGO. CAN BE EASILY REPLICATED BY GOING OVER A SPEED BUMP AT ABOUT 25 MPH AND TURNING THE WHEEL TO THE LEFT SHARPLY. ALTERNATIVELY, JUST TRAVELING ABOVE 40-45 MPH ON A HIGHWAY, ESPECIALLY ON A CURVE, WILL REPLICATE. IF ANY OTHER JEEP DRIVER HAS THIS PROBLEM, THE ONLY WAY TO PROTECT YOURSELF IS TO BRAKE SLOWLY, GET OFF THE ROAD AND DRIVE UNDER 40 MPH...AND MUCH SLOWER WHILE TURNING EVEN ON SIDE STREETS. IF YOU MUST DRIVE ON A HIGHWAY, STAY IN THE SLOW LANE SO THAT YOU CAN EXIT TO THE SHOULDER WITH RELATIVE SAFETY, AND ENGAGE YOUR HAZARD LIGHTS. OBVIOUSLY, THESE ARE NOT PRACTICAL SOLUTIONS AND ULTIMATE CULPABILITY MUST LIE WITH THE MANUFACTURER, WHO HAS BEEN PUT ON ALERT OF THIS PERSISTENT PROBLEM FOR MANY MONTHS IF NOT YEARS. VERY DANGEROUS PROBLEM THAT NEEDS TO BE REPAIRED BY JEEP BEFORE SOMEONE GETS KILLED OR SERIOUSLY HURT. I BOUGHT A 2007 JEEP WRANGLER X, THIS VEHICLE IS EQUIPPED WITH THE STOCK STEEL 16" RIMS. THESE RIMS HAVE A MAJOR DESIGN FLAW THEY ARE MADE WITH A DEEP CAVITY AND OR TRENCH BEHIND THE SPOKES, SNOW, ICE ETC. SETTLE IN THIS CAVITY MAKING IT IMPOSSIBLE TO CHIP OR REMOVE THE ICE. AS YOU DRIVE ON SNOWY ROADS THE TIRES THROW SNOW, ICE ETC.. INTO THIS TRENCH. WHILE CENTRIFUGAL FORCE HOLD THE SUBSTANCE IN PLACE. WHEN THIS HAPPENS THE WHEELS ARE OUT OF EXTREME BALANCE SHAKING THE VEHICLE, THE STEERING WHEEL SHAKES VIOLENTLY. I CONTACTED JEEP ABOUT THIS AND THEY SAY THERE IS NOTHING THEY CAN DO, HOPEFULLY YOU CAN. THIS IS THE FIRST YEAR FOR THIS TYPE OF RIM AND HOPEFULLY THE LAST. *TR
