MY O2 SENSORS (ALL 4) AND MY ECU CONTINUED TO COME UP FAULTY. I TOOK MY JEEP TO A REPAIR SHOP. THE REPAIR MAN TOLD MY THAT MY LEFT AND RIGHT MANIFOLDS WERE CRACKED AND THEY WOULD HAVE TO BE REPLACED. ALSO HAD A BOLT THAT HAD BROKEN OFF ONE OF THE MANIFOLDS.

WHILE COMING OFF THE HIGHWAY I NOTICED MY ENGINE MAKE A 'CLICKING' NOISE, DIDN'T SOUD TOO SERIOUS, BUT CHECKED OIL LEVEL AND SEEMED TO HAVE BEEN BARELY ANY OIL IN IT. IT WAS AROUND SCHEDULED OIL CHANGE DATE, HOWEVER TOOK TO A MECHANIC AND HE THOUGHT AND ASSUMED WAS THE IDLER PULLEY AND CHANGED IT. DROVE IT SAME NIGHT AND WAS STILL MAKING SAME NOISE. TOOK IT BACK AND HE JUST SPOKE WITH A 'CHRYSLER SERVICE PERSONNEL' AND STATED "CHRYSLER HAD A BAD ENGINE CASTING FOR MOLDING THE ENGINES AND AT HIGH TEMPERATURES THE ENGINE ITSELF WILL WARP." SO NOT SURE IF THIS IS TRUE, AND I DO NOT HAVE THE MONEY TO TAKE TO A DEALERSHIP AND CONFIRM.

FROM DOING RESEARCH ONLINE THIS SEEMS TO BE A COMMON PROBLEM WITH PEOPLE WHO OWN THE MANUAL TRANSMISSION JEEP MODEL. THIS CAN BE EXCEPTIONALLY DANGEROUS WHEN GOING THROUGH INTERSECTIONS OR CHANGING LANES AS THE JEEP WILL POP OUT IF GEAR AND NO LONGER ACCELERATE. THIS HAS HAPPENED SINCE DAY ONE OF ME PURCHASING IT.

AS I SLOWED TO EXIT (AT THE NEXT INTERCHANGE) THE 3.8L V6 ENGINE HAD A BEARING SEIZE AND THREW A ROD OUT THE BOTTOM OF THE ENGINE BLOCK. FROM THE RESEARCH THAT I HAVE DONE THIS IS NOT AN ISOLATED INCIDENT FOR CHRYSLER. THERE HAVE BEEN MANY REPORTS OF THIS ENGINE FAILING EVEN WITH IMPECCABLE MAINTENANCE. I RECEIVED NO INDICATIONS OR WARNINGS PRIOR TO THE ENGINE BLOWING. JUST AS I SLOWED DOWN THE OIL PRESSURE INDICATOR LIGHT ILLUMINATED BUT AT THAT POINT IT WAS TOO LATE.

PURCHASED 2007 WRANGLER SAHARA NEW. MAINTAINED VEHICLE AS SUGGESTED BY MANUFACTURER. NOTICED EARLY ON THE 3.8 L V6 BURNED OIL. WAS TOLD THIS WAS NORMAL, SO I ADDED A QUART OF OIL EVERY 1,000 MILES. AT 51,000 MILES NOTICED A LOUD KNOCK. IMMEDIATELY TOOK THE VEHICLE IN FOR SERVICE AND WAS TOLD THAT THE ENGINE WAS BLOWN. I HAD CHANGED THE OIL AT 50,000 MILES BUT SOMEHOW LOST ALL OF THE OIL IN 1,000 MILES. NEVER HAD A CHECK ENGINE LIGHT OR OIL WARNING LIGHT, NO OIL SHOWING ON THE GROUND. DEALER WANTED $7,000 TO INSTALL REMANUFACTURED LONG BLOCK. WOULD NOT CALL CHRYSLER ON MY BEHALF EVEN THOUGH THEY HAD BEEN THE ONE SERVICING THE VEHICLE. CHRYSLER REFUSED ANY ASSISTANCE SINCE OUT OF WARRANTY. THREE DIFFERENT CUSTOMER SERVICE REPRESENTATIVES REFUSED TO ALLOW ME TO SPEAK WITH ANYONE ABOVE THEM AS THE DECISION (MADE IN ONE HOUR) WAS FINAL. THEY REFUSED TO GIVE ME AN ADDRESS OR FAX NUMBER SO THAT I COULD SUBMIT MY SERVICE RECORDS TO SHOW THAT I HAD MAINTAINED THE VEHICLE. IN FACT, THEY INDICATED THAT NOT ONLY WAS A QUART OF OIL EVERY 700-1,000 MILES WAS PERFECTLY NORMAL, THAT IS WAS ALSO NORMAL TO CHECK THE OIL LEVEL AT LEAST ONCE A WEEK WHEN FUELING THE VEHICLE. I PURCHASED A 2007 JEEP WRANGLER UNLIMITED SAHARA. THE DEALERSHIP SUPPOSEDLY DID AN OIL CHANGE AND AFTER 3 MONTHS AND ABOUT 1,800 MILES OF DRIVING MY OIL LIGHT CAME ON. I CHECKED THE OIL AND IT WAS LOW. I TOOK IT TO A LOCAL SHOP(VALVOLINE QUICK LUBE) TO GET AN OIL CHANGE AND THEY MENTIONED THE OIL PLUG WAS STRIPPED AND THAT THERE WAS SILICONE CAULK TO HELP SEAL THE OIL PLUG. AT THIS POINT I HAD THEM REPLACE THE OIL PLUG AND WAS CONTENT WITH THE SERVICE. AFTER DRIVING 500-600 MILES AFTER THE OIL CHANGE I CHECKED THE OIL AND IT WAS LOW AS IF IT WAS DISAPPEARING. NO VISIBLE LEAKS IN MY GARAGE AND NONE IN MY PARKING SPOT AT WORK. AT THIS POINT I HAD TO ADD 2 QUARTS OF OIL TO GET TO READ ON THE DIP STICK. THIS WENT ON UNTIL MY NEXT OIL CHANGE AND I HAD VALVOLINE LOOK FOR ANY VISUAL LEAKS. THEY MENTIONED NOTHING THAT WOULD EXPLAIN THE MASSIVE AMOUNT OF OIL BEING CONSUMED. FINALLY, IN MARCH OF 2013, TOOK MY JEEP TO A CHRYSLER DEALERSHIP TO HAVE THEM START AN OIL CONSUMPTION TEST. AFTER THE FIRST 500 MILES THEY STATED THERE WAS LOSS OF OIL AND MADE THERE MARKS AND RESEALED EVERYTHING FOR THE NEXT 500 MILES. I TOOK IT BACK IN AT THE NEXT 500 MILE MARK, NOW MIND YOU EVERYTHING IS SEALED SO THEY KNOW NOTHING WAS TAMPERED WITH, PERFORMANCE CHRYSLER CALLED ME AND TOLD ME THAT THERE WAS SIGNIFICANT OIL LOSS AND THEY STATED THE RINGS ON THE PISTONS ARE BAD AND NEED TO BE REPLACED AT A COST OF $3,300. MY COMPLAINT IS, MY JEEP AT THIS POINT HAS 47000 MILES ON IT AND THEY ARE TELLING ME THE RINGS ARE BAD. I'VE HAD VEHICLES THAT LASTED 120,000+ AND NO PROBLEMS WITH THE RINGS ON THE PISTONS. I HAVE TALKED TO A COUPLE OF MECHANICS AND SAID THERE SHOULD BE NO WAY THE RINGS SHOULD HAVE GONE BAD THAT FAST. *TR

I BOUGHT THE JEEP NEW IN FEBRUARY/MARCH OF 2007. IN DECEMBER 2009, AT APPROXIMATELY 45K MILES, I HEARD A LOUD KNOCKING NOISE THAT SOUNDED LIKE IT WAS COMING FROM THE BOTTOM END OF THE ENGINE. TOOK THE JEEP TO MY REGULAR OIL CHANGE CENTER AND THEY CONFIRMED THE KNOCKING SOUND. I THEN TOOK THE JEEP TO LOCAL DEALER WHO INFORMED ME THAT IT WAS SPUN BEARINGS AND THERE WAS METAL SHAVINGS IN THE OIL PAN. THEY PUT IN A NEW MOTOR (CHRYSLER OFFERED SOME ASSISTANCE AFTER MUCH COMPLAINING AND ARGUING ON MY SIDE, BUT IT STILL COST ME $1,500 AS IT AS OUT OF WARRANTY). NOW, IN AUGUST 2012, AT A TOTAL OF 90K MILES (APPROXIMATELY 45K ON THE NEW MOTOR), THE BEARINGS ARE SPUN AGAIN. THIS WILL BE THE 3RD MOTOR IN THIS JEEP. I HAVE THE RECEIPTS FROM MY REGULAR OIL CHANGE CENTER SHOWING THAT I HAVE REGULARLY CHANGED THE OIL. THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT AT THE DEALER SAYS THEY ARE NOT AWARE OF ANY OTHER PPL HAVING THIS ISSUE. HOWEVER, INTERNET RESEARCH SHOWS SIGNIFICANT NUMBERS OF PPL WITH 2007 JEEP WRANGLERS THAT ARE HAVING SPUN BEARINGS AT AROUND 45K MILES. JEEP SHOULD BE REPLACING THESE MOTORS AT NO COST TO THE CONSUMER AS THIS APPEARS TO BE A DESIGN DEFECT. *TR

NORMAL OIL CONSUMPTION: BELOW ARE INDUSTRY STANDARDS FOR NORMAL ENGINE OIL CONSUMPTION: MILEAGE BELOW 50,000: NORMAL OIL CONSUMPTION IS ONE QUART FOR EACH 1,000 MILES DRIVEN. MILEAGE ABOVE 50,000: NORMAL OIL CONSUMPTION IS ONE QUART FOR EACH 750 MILES DRIVEN. SO, AS LONG AS A JEEP WITH 50000 OR MORE MILES ON IT DOES NOT USE MORE THAN A QUART OF OIL EVERY 750 MILES THEY DO NOT CARE, AND THEY WILL NOT FIX IT. I WAS ALSO TOLD THAT WHY NEW JEEPS TAKE 6 QT'S SINCE THEY USE SO MUCH OIL. I EVEN HAVE A WARRANTY AND THEY STILL WILL NOT FIX IT. THERE ARE NO OIL LEAKS AND I HAVE HAD 2 OIL CONSUMPTION TEST RAN ON THE VEHICLE BY THE DEALERSHIP. THE DEALERSHIP AND CHRYSLER WILL NOT HELP FIX THE PROBLEM. I WAS TOLD BY THE DEALERSHIP THAT I AM LUCKY IT DOES NOT USE A QUART OF OIL EVERY 1000 MILES, SINCE IT MAY GET LOW ENOUGH TO BURN THE ENGINE UP IN UNDER 2500 MILES. *KB

WHEN I ASK SERVICE PERSON WHY THIS HAPPEN HE COULD NOT AND WOULD NOT GIVE STRAIGHT ANSWER SIMPLE SAID " AFTERMARKET OIL FILTER, AND I FOUND NO LEAKS" THEN ASKED IF IT WAS THE OIL FILTER HE SAID " NO I'M NOT TELLING YOU IT WAS THE OIL FILTER!" WHILE I WAS DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD, ALL THE SUDDEN I NOTICED MY STEREO AND HEAD LIGHTS TURNED OFF, I LOOKED DOWN AND ALL OF MY DASH LIGHTS AND INSTRUMENT PANELS HAD TURNED OFF. SITTING IN MY SEAT WHILE DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD AT 60 MPH IT LOOKED AS IF MY CAR WAS TURNED OFF. THE TECHNICIAN USED A MALLET OR HAMMER TO ALIGN THE DOOR STRIKER. THE CONSUMER HAD TO SLAM THE DOOR IN ORDER FOR IT TO CLOSE PROPERLY, EVEN THOUGH THERE WAS NO CERTAINTY THE DOOR WAS REALLY CLOSED. AFTER THIS VISIT I FELT MORE SECURE TO DRIVE THE CAR BECAUSE AT LEAST CHRYSLER HAD ACKNOWLEDGED THE PROBLEM. THE ON FEB 5TH 2008 AS I WAS DRIVING TO WORK, IT HAPPENED AGAIN. I HAVE A 2007 JEEP WRANGLER 2DR, AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION. NO POWER AMENITIES GROUP. BUILD DATE OF 9/12/2006. IT HAS A RANDOM STALLING PROBLEM AND HAS SINCE I PURCHASED IT. IT HAS STALLED AT LEAST 6 TIMES ON ME THAT I CAN RECALL. THERE DOES NOT APPEAR TO BE ANY PATTERN THAT I CAN RELATE, SPEED IS IRRELEVANT, IT HAS HAPPENED AT DEAD STOPS, AND AT 65MPH THRUWAY SPEEDS. IT OCCURS WITHOUT WARNING; ALL OF A SUDDEN ALL THE IDIOT LIGHTS COME ON, IMMEDIATELY EVERYTHING SHUTS DOWN. RADIO, LIGHTS, DASH GAUGES, ENGINE, EVERYTHING. NO POWER STEERING, NO POWER BRAKES, EVERYTHING IS GONE. THIS HAPPENS FOR MAYBE A SECOND OR TWO. SOMETIMES IT COMES BACK ON BY ITSELF, SOMETIMES IT DOESN'T. I HAVE HAD IT BACK TO THE DEALER, THEY ATTEMPTED THE COMPUTER REFLASH. IT HAD NO EFFECT. I HAVE NO COMPLAINT WITH CECCONI'S CHRYSLER, THEY HAVE ATTEMPTED TO FIX THE PROBLEM. THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING 65 MPH UNDER NORMAL DRY CONDITIONS WHEN THE VEHICLE STALLED.THE CONTACT TRIED TO RESTART THE VEHICLE WHILE COASTING, IT WOULD NOT RESTART SO THE CONTACT WAS SAFELY ABLE TO GET THE VEHICLE TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. WHEN THE VEHICLE STALLED ALL OF THE ELECTRICAL EQUIPMENT SHUT OFF THEN CAME BACK ON BEFORE THE VEHICLE RESTARTED. ONCE THE VEHICLE WAS ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD IT RESTARTED AND SHE HAS NOT HAD ANY PROBLEMS SINCE. THE CONTACT CALLED THE DEALER AND MADE THEM AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND THE DEALER OFFERED TO REPLACE THE JEEP WITH A NEW ONE.

SINCE THAT DATE, I HAVE HAD 2 OTHER SIMILAR ISSUES. ABOUT 4 MONTHS AFTER THE FIRST INCIDENT, MY JEEP STALLED OUT AT A STOPLIGHT. I HAD TO RESTART THE ENGINE. I AM THE OWNER OR A 2007 JEEP WRANGLER X 4X4 6SPD. THE VEHICLE HAS APPROX 2,600 MILES ON IT. ON MAY 30TH I WAS DRIVING IN A RESIDENTIAL AREA WHEN I WAS APPROACHING A STOP SIGN. I WAS ON MY WAY TO GET GAS AND MY GAS LIGHT WAS ON (I DO NOT KNOW IF THIS IS RELEVANT OR NOT BUT I WILL REPORT IT). WHILE APPROACHING THE STOP SIGN, WITH THE CLUTCH PEDAL PUSHED TO THE FLOOR AT ABOUT 3 MPH THE VEHICLE JUST STALLED. NO REAL WARNING JUST A FLASH OF THE RADIO LIGHTS AND DASH LIGHTS AND THE VEHICLE DIED. I THOUGHT IT HAD RUN OUT OF GAS BUT IT STARTED RIGHT BACK UP. THEN I THOUGHT POSSIBLY THE GAS WAS VERY LOW BUT THERE WERE STILL 2 GALLONS LEFT IN THE TANK AS I FOUND OUT WHEN I FILLED UP THE TANK 2 MINUTES LATER. AFTER THIS HAPPENED I RESEARCHED THIS "STALL" A LITTLE MORE ONLINE. I CAME ACROSS JK-FORUM.COM AND THIS WAS NOT JUST AN ISOLATED INCIDENT. THIS IS A VERY WIDE SPREAD PROBLEM IN WHICH THE DEALERS POKE AND HOPE WITH THEIR REPAIRS AND THEY DO NOT WORK. THIS IS A VERY BIG SAFETY ISSUE.
