I was in a motor vehicle accident on 9/27/23 and my driver side seat belt had a retractor failure allowing me to be thrown forward and hit my chest on the steering wheel, causing chest contusion, bruising and pain. The cause of the accident was due to another vehicle losing control and hitting me head on.
Alternator failed and passenger seat belt does not retract. Coils misfired.
CHILD GOT INTO BACK SEAT PASSENGER SIDE AND UPON ATTEMPTING TO BUCKLE HIS SEAT BELT THE BUCKLE CRACK AND FELL APART.
WHEN MAKING A SUDDEN STOP, THE PASSENGER SIDE SEAT BELT DID NOT LOCK THE PASSENGER INTO PLACE. THE DRIVER'S SIDE DID. THIS WAS TAKEN INTO THE JEEP DEALER, WHERE I WAS TOLD THIS IS CORRECT OPERATION. THE CORRECT PROCEDURE TO MAKE IT LOCK IS TO PULL THE BELT OUT ALL THE WAY, THEN LET IT BACK IN. THIS PROCEDURE DOES WORKONMY VEHICLE. THE OWNER'S MANUAL SEEMS TO SAY THAT THE SEATBELTS ALL WORK AUTOMATICALLY IN CASE OF A SUDDENT STOP. BUT I WAS GIVEN A DOCUMENT BY THE REPAIR SHOP THAT EXPLAINS THE "CORRECT" PROCEDURE. I CAN'T IMAGINE THAT THIS ISCONSIDERED A SAFE SEAT/SHOLDER BELT DESIGN. I ASSUME ALMOST EVERY JEEP OWNER IS USING THE BELTS PER THE MANUAL, AND IS UNSAFE.
