Your dashboard displays an "ESP System Disabled" warning along with the check engine light and a red lightning bolt symbol. When this happens, your car loses acceleration power and the brakes become sluggish, making it difficult to stop quickly or safely pull over — this occurs randomly and unpredictably. The problem started in April 2024, and after a mechanic worked on it, it returned multiple times within a single day in August 2024. The issue likely requires diagnostic scanning to identify the underlying electrical or brake system fault causing the ESP malfunction.

EVERY DAY I CRANK UP MY JEEP I GIVE IT 5-10 MINS BEFORE I MOVE IT BECAUSE IT HAS THIS SHAKE OR VIBRATION TO IT REALLY BAD IT STOPS AND THEN ONCE I HAVE EXCEEDED 45-55 MPH AND START TO COME TO A STOP IT SHAKES THE ENTIRE FRONT END. NOW IF I'M BELOW 45 IT DON'T REALLY DO IT AS OFTEN! WHEN I TURN OR HIT A BUMP IN THE ROAD THE FRONT END RATTLED OR VIBRATING FROM IT! THE REAR DRIVE SHAFT IS CAUSING A RUMBLING AS YOU SPEED UP OR MAINTAIN SPEED. IT FEELS LIKE DRIVING OVER SMALL SPEED BUMPS OR RUBBLE STRIPS, EVEN WHEN THERE IS NOTHING IN THE ROAD. IT IS A SAFETY CONCERN BECAUSE IT IS A LEAK IN THE OIL OF THE DRIVE SHAFT. IT IS ALSO A PRETTY EXPENSIVE PROBLEM TO FIX. JEEP AND MOPAR NEED TO FIX THIS SAFETY ISSUE. LIKE YESTERDAY.

AS I WAS LEAVING A SHOPPING CENTER ABOUT 40 MILES AWAY FROM MY HOUSE MY JEEP AND AS I ENTERED ONTO THE INTERSTATE THE JEEP ACTED LIKE I WAS HAVING A FLAT TIRE WITH THE STEERING WHEEL SHAKING AND GIVING ME A LOT OF VIBRATION AND THE FLOP FLOP SOUND YOU GET FROM A FLAT TIRE. I STOPPED AND GOT OUT BUT NO FLAT TIRE, LOOSE LUG NUTS OR ANYTHING I COULD FIND. PUT FLASHERS ON AND HEADED UP THE ROAD SLOWLY NOT GOING OVER 45 MPH. IT FINALLY QUIT AND I WAS ABLE TO INCREASE SPEED. IT CONTINUES TO HAVE THIS WOBBLE SOUND ALONG WITH THE STEERING WHEEL SHAKING OFF AND ON. I DID SOME RESEARCH AND THE ONLY THING MATCHED WHAT HAPPEN WAS THE JEEP DEATH WOBBLE. SOME VEHICLES HAVE HAD A RECALL ON THIS BUT I DON'T SEE ANY FOR MY YEAR.

I WAS ALSO TOLD THAT AFTER THEY HAVE AVAILABILITY AND THEY TAKE MY VEHICLE IN, THEY WOULD STILL HAVE NO DATE WHICH THEY CAN TELL ME WHEN THE WORK WILL BE COMPLETED. EACH TIME IT HAS OCCURRED, IT WAS AT A LOW RATE OF SPEED, SO THE DANGER OF A CATASTROPHIC ACCIDENT WAS LOW; HOWEVER, ONE TIME IT OCCURRED WHEN I WAS ON A HILL AND I COULDN'T STOP THE JEEP FROM ROLLING DOWN HILL. I HAD TO COAST THROUGH A STOP SIGN AND ONLY CAME TO REST BECAUSE OF A CURB ON THE OPPOSITE SIDE OF THE STREET. LUCKILY, NO CARS WERE COMING IN THE OPPOSITE DIRECTION.

LUCKILY, I WAS IN THE FAR RIGHT LANE AND WAS ABLE TO PULL SAFELY TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. ONCE THE VEHICLE CAME TO A COMPLETE STOP I WAS ABLE TO RESTART THE VEHICLE AND CONTINUE ON. THIS IS AN EXTREMELY DANGEROUS ISSUE. AFTER CALLING THE DEALER WAS TOLD THERE WAS A RECALL FOR THE SYMPTOMS DESCRIBED BUT NO PARTS AVAILABLE TO FIX IT AND IT COULD BE MONTHS BEFORE IT COULD BE FIXED. NO OFFER WAS MADE TO PROVIDE ME WITH A VEHICLE TO DRIVE WHILE THE ISSUE REMAINED OPEN. I AM NOT GOING TO ENDANGER MY LIFE, MY FAMILY'S LIVES, OR THE LIVES OF OTHER DRIVERS BY CONTINUING TO OPERATE THIS VEHICLE. THE DEALER SHOULD BE REQUIRED TO PROVIDE AN ALTERNATE MODE OF TRANSPORTATION TO THE CUSTOMER IF THE ISSUE CANNOT BE RESOLVED IN A TIMELY MANOR.

IN RUSH HOUR TRAFFIC, THE CAR WOULD LOSE POWER EVERYTIME THE CAR CAME TO A STOP OR IDLED. 3 DAYS LATER, THE CAR LOST POWER IN SPEED LIMIT TRAFFIC AFTER GOING OVER THE RAILROAD TRACKS. SINCE THEN, IT LOSES POWER AT EVERY STOP. IF I AM NOT AWARE, THE CAR ROLLS INTO ONCOMING TRAFFIC! I TOOK THE CAR TO MY NEAREST DEALER. THEY CONFIRMED THAT IT WAS THE IGNITION SWITCH THAT HAS BEEN RECALLED AND A PART HASN'T BEEN SENT TO DEALERS. I CALLED CHRYSLER AND ALL THEY DID WAS PUT ME ON A LIST! THEY APOLOGIZED FOR ME NOT HAVING A CAR TO DRIVE AND THAT WAS IT! THEY WOULD NOT PROVIDE ME WITH A TIMELINE OF WHEN THE PART WOULD BE READY. THEY REFUSED TO PROVIDE ME WITH A LOANER VEHICLE WHILE IT WAS OFF THE ROAD. I HAVE LOST MY MODE OF TRANSPORTATION UNLESS I WANT TO RISK MY AND MY FAMILY'S LIFE, AND THEY SAY THERE IS NOTHING THEY CAN DO EVEN THOUGH THEY ARE AT FAULT!

I DROVE INTO AN ADVANCE AUTO PARKING AND WHEN I WAS DRIVING THE CAR SEEM TO ACCELERATED AND I COULD NOT TURN THE WHEEL ON THE CAR I TRIED TO PUSH THE BRAKES TO STOP THE CAR BUT THE BRAKING SYSTEM WAS NOT WORKING. I COULD NOT TURN THE WHEEL AND THE BRAKING SYSTEM WAS NOT WORKING AND I STARTED TO PANIC. MY CAR RAN RIGHT INTO A METAL POLE AND TOTALED MY CAR. THE POLICE AT THE SEEN TOLD ME AND MY HUSBAND THAT THE IMPACT THAT THE VEHICLE TOOK, THE AIRBAGS SHOULD OF CAME OUT, BUT THEY DID NOT. MY CAR IS TOTALED AND THE BODY OF THE CAR IN THE FRONT IS SPLIT IN HALF.

THE FIRST INCIDENT TOOK PLACE APPROXIMATELY ON THE ABOVE DATE. AS MY DAUGHTER, FRIENDS AND I WERE PULLING ONTO THE ROAD, I BUMPED THE KEY WITH MY KNEE AND THE VEHICLE SHUT OFF COMPLETELY. EVERYTHING WENT DEAD. I PUT IT IN NEUTRAL, TURNED THE KEY, STARTED IT, AND CONTINUED ON. IT HAS HAPPENED 3 TIMES SINCE THEN, TWICE WITH MY DAUGHTER DRIVING. WE FOLLOWED THE RECALL POSTED BY CHRYSLER AND REMOVED EVERYTHING FROM THE KEY CHAIN, MOVED THE SEAT BACK, ETC. (THERE IS NO FIX OFFERED FOR THIS). THIS PAST SATURDAY NIGHT, 7/25/15, MY 18 YEAR OLD DAUGHTER WAS RETURNING HOME FROM A FRIENDS HOUSE WHEN SHE SNEEZED AND AS SHE WAS RECOVERING AND RE-ADJUSTING, SHE BUMPED THE KEY AND SHUT THE CAR OFF. WHEN THIS HAPPENS, EVERYTHING IS CUT OFF. LIGHTS, BRAKES, GAUGES, EVERYTHING. BEING DARK, SHE COULD NOT SEE, COULD BARELY STEER, BRAKE, ETC. AND WAS BASICALLY "ALONG FOR THE RIDE". AS SHE WAS IN A LEFT TURN AT THE TIME, SHE PULLED THE WHEEL TO THE RIGHT TO TRY AND STAY ON THE ROAD AND NOT GO "BEYOND THE TURN" AND CRASH. BECAUSE THE BRAKES WERE NOT WORKING, SHE WAS GOING TOO FAST, MANAGED TO GET THE CAR GOING TO THE RIGHT BUT ENDED UP IN A SLIDE. THE CAR SLID SIDEWAYS AND THEN BACKWARDS, SLIDING OFF THE ROAD TO THE RIGHT SIDE AND ONTO A DRIVEWAY WHERE THE DRIVER SIDE FRONT WHEEL CAUGHT THE CULVERT UNDER THE DRIVEWAY, FLIPPING THE JEEP ONTO THE DRIVERS SIDE WHERE IT REMAINED AS IT SLID BACKWARDS FOR ABOUT 10 FEET, STOPPING IN A RESIDENTS YARD. THANKFULLY, MY DAUGHTER WAS ABLE TO CLIMB UP AND OUT THE PASSENGER WINDOW, UNHARMED, GO TO A HOUSE AND GET HELP. BECAUSE THERE IS NOT A "FIX" FOR THIS PROBLEM (CHRYSLER ADMITS THIS ON THE RECALL NOTICE), I AM OUT A VEHICLE BECAUSE OF A DEFECT THEY CAN NOT/WILL NOT FIX. WHILE DEPARTING PHILADELPHIA AIRPORT , ENTERING RAMP TO ACCESS INTERSTATE 95, THE VEHICLE LOST ALL POWER, ENGINE, POWER STEERING AND BRAKES WOULD NOT WORK. HEAD LIGHTS WERE STILL FUNCTIONING. WE PHYSICALLY PUSHED THE VEHICLE OFF THE HIGHWAY, SO OTHER DRIVERS AND MUNICIPAL BUS DRIVERS WOULD STOP SCREAMING AT US. THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT START. AFTER CALLING THE POLICE AND A TOW TRUCK, ABOUT 30 MINUTES LATER , THE VEHICLE STARTED. WE HAD THE VEHICLE TOWED TO OUR HOME 100 MILES AWAY IN NEW JERSEY. THE VEHICLE WOULD START AND REMAIN RUNNING FOR ABOUT 15 MINUTES, THEN WOULD SHUT DOWN AGAIN, SAME ISSUES. SEVERAL SENSOR CODES CAME UP ON A READOUT BUT NOTHING HAS BEEN DONE TO THE VEHICLE. I SAW THE NEWS THIS MORNING THAT CHRYSLER JEEP HAS ADMITTED TO A DEFECT WHERE THE JEEP CHEROKEES (2005) TURNS OFF UNEXPECTEDLY AND THERE ARE ISSUES WITH THE AIRBAG. MY JEEP HAS TURNED OFF/STALLED SOON AFTER I HAVE STARTED DRIVING IT ON A NUMBER OF OCCASIONS. IT SORT OF STALLS WITH NO POWER GOING TO THE ENGINE AND THEN A FEW SECONDS LATER KICKS IN AND MOVES. THIS USUALLY HAPPENS RIGHT AFTER I PULL OUT OF A PARKING SPACE OR PULL AWAY FROM THE CURB TO START DRIVING IN A LANE OF TRAFFIC. I HAVE BROUGHT THE CAR IN AND DISCUSSED THE PROBLEM A COUPLE TIMES AND BEEN TOLD THERE IS NO PROBLEM. AS A SEPARATE OR RELATED ISSUE, DURING ONE OF MY FIRST SERVICES AT A JEEP DEALERSHIP WHEN I LEFT THE DEALERSHIP WARNING LIGHTS TURNED ON -- I WENT BACK TO HAVE THE ISSUE ADDRESSED AND WAS FINALLY TOLD ON THE FOURTH VISIT THAT THERE WAS A FAULTY SOFTWARE UPGRADE AND NOT TO WORRY UNLESS A LIGHT WENT ON AND STAYED ON (I DIDN'T HAVE TIME TO PURSUE THE ISSUE AND I GOT NO WHERE WITH THE DEALERSHIP). MORE RECENTLY IT HAS BEEN THE AIRBAG LIGHT THAT GOES ON AND OFF (IF IS NOW OFF). FINALLY, I WENT TO THE CHRYSLER WEBSITE THIS MORNING AND ENTERED MY VIN AND WAS TOLD THERE WAS NO RECALL OR NOTICES. I HOPE THAT THE NHTSA REQUIRES CHRYSLER TO ADDRESS THIS ISSUE AND/OR IT IS ADDRESSED THROUGH A CLASS ACTION. *TR

THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AS I WAS LEAVING WORK. SO I TOOK IT TO AUTO ZONE AND THEY DID A DIAGNOSTIC ON IT AND THEY CAME BACK WITH A FEW POSSIBLE OXYGEN SENSOR, EXHAUST LEAK, ENGINE MALFUNCTION INDICATOR. SO I MADE AN APPOINTMENT WITH A CHRYSLER DEALERSHIP. THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT STAYED ON A COUPLE OF DAYS THEN WHEN I LEFT WORK THE AFTERNOON I WAS TO TAKE IT IN TO DEALERSHIP THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT DIDN'T COME ON. WHEN I GOT TO DEALERSHIP I TOLD THEM THE LIGHT DIDN'T COME ON. THEY SAID THEY MIGHT STILL TRY TO FIGURE OUT PROBLEM DOING A DIAGNOSTIC. ANYWAY A COUPLE HOURS LATER THEY CAME BACK AND SAID IT WAS THE (TCM) WHICH IS THE TRANSFER CONTROL MODULE. IT'S IN THE COMPUTER PART AND IT CAUSES HESITATION IN THE TRANSMISSION AND COULD CAUSE OTHER PROBLEMS IF NOT FIXED. NOW MIND YOU IT'S A $900 FIX WHICH IS EXPENSIVE. MY PARTICULAR VEHICLE HAS A NAG ON IT, IT'S PART OF THE MCGEORGE MERCEDES BENZ JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE. I'M SURPRISED THERE'S BEEN NO RECALL ON THIS. *TR

THE MEMORY SEAT DID NOT MOVE BACK AT TIMES WHEN THE KEY WAS REMOVED FROM THE IGNITION. THE TIRE PRESSURE MONITORING SYSTEM WAS INOPERATIVE. THE POWER STEERING PUMP WAS BINDING AND HAD TO BE REPLACED.
