WHEN THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED, THE VEHICLE HESITATED FORWARD WITH FORCE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE ABS, TRACKER CONTROL, SERVICE ELECTRICAL BRAKING SYSTEM, AND SERVICE 4 WHEEL DRIVE WARNING INDICATORS ILLUMINATED. THE CONTACT CONTINUED DRIVING HOME AS THE FAILURE CONTINUED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC, BUT NO FAILURE CODE WAS FOUND. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE BRAKES, ROTORS, AND CALIPERS WERE REPLACED, BUT THE FAILURE CONTINUED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE DEALER AND MANUFACTURER WERE NOT CONTACTED. THE VEHICLE SLOWED DOWN AFTER APPLYING THE BRAKES. WHEN THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS RELEASED, THE VEHICLE EXPERIENCED UNINTENDED ACCELERATION AGAIN. THE DRIVER FORCED THE TRANSMISSION INTO THE PARK POSITION TO STOP THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC. THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE WAS NOT DETERMINED. MY VEHICLE HAS, ON MULTIPLE AND SEPARATE OCCASIONS, SPONTANEOUSLY ACCELERATED. THANKFULLY NO ONE AND NOTHING HAS BEEN HURT YET BECAUSE I HAD TIME TO THROW IT INTO NEUTRAL AND STAND ON THE BRAKE, BUT IT'S A MATTER OF TIME. SOMEONE WILL GET KILLED IF THIS ISSUE ISN'T FIXED SOON AS I ASSUME THERE ARE TONS OF THESE ON THE ROAD.

SUDDENLY, THE VEHICLE INADVERTENTLY ACCELERATED AND STRUCK A PARKED VEHICLE. THE POLICE AND FIRE DEPARTMENTS WERE PRESENT, BUT NO REPORTS WERE FILED. THERE WERE NO INJURIES. OK I'M FULLY AWARE MY VEHICLE IS UNDER 3 RECALLS WELL TECHNICALLY SPEAKING 2 CAUSE ONES A RECALL ON THE RECALL WAITING FOR THAT RECALL TO BE RECALLED. THIS WHOLE PROCESS IS INSANE MY VEHICLE HAS TURNED OFF WHILE DRIVING HAS UNPARKED ITSELF SHIFTED ON ITS OWN HAD THE LIGHTS FLICKER I HAVE EVEN BEEN PULLED OVER MUTIPLE TIMES FOR THESE PROBLEMS TWICE WHEN THE JEEP DECIDED IT WAS GONNA STOP ACCELERATING 3 TIMES BECAUSE THE LIGHTS START FLICKERING SOMETIME JUST INSIDE SOMETIMES JUST THE OUTSIDE AND MOST RECENTLY ALL THE LIGHTS JUST STOPPED WORKING VEHICLE STILL RUNNING MADE IT ABOUT 10 FEET AFTER THE LIGHTS WENT OUT AND SURE ENOUGH BEFORE I COULD EVEN PULL OF TBE ROAD BLUE LIGHTS I'VE HAD THE VEHICLE LESS THEN 60 DAYS IT'S STALLED WHILE SITTING STILL IT'S STALLED WHILE DRIVING IT'S SHUT OFF WHILE IDLE AND WHILE DRIVING. THE DRIVER LOST CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE AND CRASHED INTO A UTILITY POLE. THE DRIVER SUSTAINED INJURIES TO THE NECK, BACK, LEFT ARM, AND LEFT FOOT, WHICH REQUIRED MEDICAL ATTENTION. THE VEHICLE WAS DESTROYED AND TOWED. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE WAS NOT DETERMINED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE AND OFFERED NO ASSISTANCE. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 55 MPH THE ETC WARNING LIGHT CAME ON AND I LOST ALL CONTROL OF THE THROTTLE CONTROL OF THE CAR. I MANGED TO COAST HOME AT 15 MPH SPEED WHERE I CALL CALL THE DEALER AND HAVE THE CAR TOWED TOTHE SHOP FOR REPAIR. A THROTTLE CONTROL MODULE WAS IDENTIFIED AS BEING SHORTED AND THEY REPLACED IT AT $1508.20 COST TO ME. PRIOR TO THIS INCIDENT MY CONTROL MODULE WENT OUT CAUSING THE ELECTRIC SEATS TO RETRACT AND ENGINE BEGIN TO SHUT DOWN. THIS REQUIRED A NEW POWER MODULE AT $1543 COST TO ME. THE RECALL ISSUED BY CHRYSLER FOR THE IGNITION SWITCH PROBLEM NHTSA 14V-438 HAS YET TO BE RESOLVED BY CHRYSLER SINCE SEPTEMBER 2014. I FEEL THE EARLIER ELECTRICAL PROBLEMS COULD BE VERY LIKELY RELATED TO THE IGNITION SWITCH RECALL AND I HAD TO PAY FOR THE OTHER REPAIRS, ALSO THE PLASTIC SUPPORT THAT HOLDS ALL THE INTERIOR DOOR HANDLES SECURE TO THE DOOR HAVE ALL BROKEN BECAUSE OF A KNOW DESIGN FAILURE CHRYSLER HAS ON THESE VEHICLES. CHRYSLER HAS REFUSED TO REPAIR THE DEFECT AND THIS CAR IS A DANGER TO ANYONE WHO IS IN IT WHILE DRIVING. IF AN ACCIDENT OCCURRED OR A FIRE IN THE CAR, YOU COULD NOT ESCAPE FROM CAR IN TIME TO PREVENT SERIOUS INJURY. IF THERE IS NO RECALL FOR THIS DEFECT THERE SHOULD BE ONE. THE VEHICLE WAS SHIFTED INTO NEUTRAL IN ORDER FOR THE VEHICLE TO STOP. THE CONTACT MENTIONED THAT THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL WOULD BECOME STUCK. THE VEHICLE WAS RESTARTED AND THE ENGINE RPM'S REVVED EXCESSIVELY AND THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL WAS ABLE TO RELEASE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 130,000.
MY JEEP AT TIMES LURCHES WHEN TAKING OFF FROM A STOPPED POSITION BEFORE IT WILL DRIVE NORMALLY. AT TIMES WHEN SLOWING DOWN AND NOT COMING TO A COMPLETE STOP THE RPMS WILL JUMP AND NOT GO DOWN CAUSING THE VEHICLE TO NOT CONTINUE TO GO FORWARD. I HAVE TO PULL OVER AND TURN IGNITION OFF, TURN BACK ON AND GO. THIS IS VERY DANGEROUS, ESPECIALLY IF TRYING TO GET ON HIGHWAY OR IN TRAFFIC ON A CITY STREET. *TR

THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO THE DEALER. THE CONTACT RECEIVED NOTIFICATION OF NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 14V438000 (ELECTRICAL SYSTEM); HOWEVER, THE PART NEEDED TO DO THE REPAIR WAS UNAVAILABLE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE MANUFACTURER EXCEEDED A REASONABLE AMOUNT OF TIME FOR THE RECALL REPAIR. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE ISSUE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 90,000.

WHILE DRIVING THE LIGHTS ON THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER, RADIO, AC AND LIGHTS SHUT OFF AS WELL AS LOSS OF POWER STEERING AND ENGINE SHUT OFF. INCLUDING THE BRAKES, ACCELERATOR, AND ALL ELECTRICAL SYSTEM. LEAVING ME WITH ABSOLUTE NO CONTROL OVER THE VEHICLE. I NOTICED THE IGNITION KEY HAD SLIPPED INTO THE FORWARD OFF POSITION WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS IN MOTION, CREATING A DEADLY HAZARD AS IT RESULTS IN LOSS OF ALL FUNCTIONALITY OF THE VEHICLE. PRIOR TO THIS HAPPENING MY GAUGES IN MY CAR WERE ALL FLICKING ON AND OFF ON MY DASHBOARD. I REPORTED THE INCIDENT TO MY INSURANCE COMPANY AND HAD THE BODY WORK DONE. THE INSURANCE COMPANY WILL NOT COVER THE CAUSE OF THE ACCIDENT ONLY THE ACCIDENT ITSELF. MY INSURANCE COMPANY SENT ONE OF THEIR APPRAISERS OVER TO THE BODY SHOP AT THE DEALERSHIP WHERE I PURCHASED THE CAR AND HAD THE WORK DONE AND WAS TOLD THAT THE SAME INCIDENT HAPPENED TO ONE OF THE GUYS THAT WORKED AT THE BODY SHOP WHILE HE WAS PULLING MY CAR BACK INTO ONE OF THEIR GARAGES. I AM SUPPOSED TO PICK UP MY CAR BECAUSE THE BODY WORK IS COMPLETE BUT I AM AFRAID TO DRIVE THE CAR AGAIN AND FEEL THAT THIS IS A MAJOR SAFETY CONCERN. WHILE TRAVELING AT HIGHWAY SPEED THE ELECTRONIC THROTTLE CONTROL SYSTEM OF THE VEHICLE COMPLETELY FAILED PLACING THE VEHICLE INTO LIMP MODE AS INDICATED BY THE FLASHING WARNING LIGHTS AND THE DASHBOARD DISPLAY READING "ESP DISABLED". THE VEHICLE REDUCED SPEED DRASTICALLY WITHOUT DRIVER INPUT TO DO SO. WERE IT NOT FOR THE AWARENESS AND CAPABILITY OF THE DRIVER FOLLOWING THE VEHICLE, THIS DRASTIC REDUCTION IN SPEED WOULD HAVE CAUSED A VEHICULAR COLLISION ON AN INCREDIBLY BUSY MAIN THOROUGHFARE. THE AFFECTED VEHICLE SUFFERED A COMPLETE LOSS OF THROTTLE CONTROL AND THE ENGINE STAYED AT APPROXIMATELY 2000 RPM'S REGARDLESS OF DRIVER INPUT TO THE THROTTLE PEDAL. MAXIMUM SPEED DROPPED TO NO MORE THAN 15 MPH. STOPPING THE VEHICLE COMPLETELY AT TRAFFIC CONTROL DEVICES WAS DIFFICULT DUE TO THE CONSTANT HIGH RPM THE ENGINE WAS MAINTAINING. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT OF THE NEAREST JEEP/CHRYSTLER/DODGE DEALERSHIP WHERE IT WAS TROUBLESHOT. THE ELECTRONIC THROTTLE BODY WAS REPLACED CONSEQUENT OF THE DIAGNOSTIC CHECK RAN ON THE VEHICLE. THE NEXT 30 MILES DRIVEN IN VEHICLE WERE UNEVENTFUL. THE NEXT DAY THE EXACT SAME MALFUNTION OCCURED AGAIN, ALBEIT ON A NOT SO BUSY ROAD (THANKFULLY). CONVERSATIONS WITH THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT REVEAL NO CONFIDENCE INSPIRING TROUBLE SHOOTING AND/OR REPAIR PROCEDURE FOR WHAT IS APPARENTLY A KNOWN PROBLEM FOR MANY PRODUCTS ACROSS THE CORPORATE LINE, SPANNING MANY MODEL YEAS AND GENERATIONS. BASICALLY, IT WAS STATED THAT THEY ARE AWARE OF THE ISSUE BUT ARE UNSURE OF WHAT CAUSES IT OR HOW TO REMEDY THE MALFUNCTION. THE VEHICLE IS NOW PARKED USELESS IN OWNERS DRIVEWAY UNTIL A SOLUTION IS FOUND AND THE VEHICLE CAN BE SAFELY DRIVEN AGAIN. *TR

THIS IS A 5.7 HEMI ENGINE WITH 62200 MILES. I HAD DRIVEN INTO A 7-11 PARKING LOT AND ALMOST CAME TO A HALT DECIDING WHETHER TO PARK ON THE RIGHT OR LEFT. DECIDED TO PARK ON THE RIGHT. CAR WAS AT AROUND 2 MILES PER HOUR, LIFTED MY LEG OFF THE ACCELERATOR TO HIT BRAKE, WHEN THE CAR SUDDENLY ACCELERATED, CLIMBED OVER THE SIDEWALK, SLICED AND FELLED A TREE AND RAMMED INTO A LAUNDROMAT. BRAKE WAS APPLIED TO THE POINT OF LITERALLY STANDING ON IT WITH WHOLE BODY WEIGHT BUT CAR DID NOT RESPOND. FINALLY THE CAR CAME TO A HALT ALTHOUGH ENGINE WAS MAKING REVVING SOUNDS FOR A FEW MORE SECONDS. LUCKILY NOBODY WAS INSIDE THE LAUNDROMAT. AIR BAG DID NOT DEPLOY EVEN THOUGH THE FRONT WAS BADLY DAMAGED. POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. COP WAS ALSO SURPRISED AIR BAG DID NOT DEPLOY FOR THIS HARD A CRASH. THE CAR HAS BEEN OWNED BY ME SINCE NEW FOR 7 YEARS AND THIS HAS NEVER HAPPENED. INSURANCE SENT A SPECIAL TECHNICIAN TO CHECK, BUT NOTHING COULD BE FOUND. CAR IS MORE THAN LIKELY TOTALED AT THIS POINT. PLEASE DO SOMETHING ABOUT THIS, SOMEONE CAN GET BADLY INJURED FOR LIFE, OR DEATHS CAN OCCUR. *TR

THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE UNKNOWN.
I OWN A 2005 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE THAT HAS BEEN STALLING ON ME. I LOOKED ON YOUTUBE AND THERE ARE OTHER OWNERS WITH SAME SITUATION. IN MY 2005 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE, WHILE TRAVELING ON A CONGESTED ROAD, APPROX. 25 MPH, I TOOK MY FOOT OFF THE GAS TO SLOW DOWN. ALL OF A SUDDEN, THE VEHICLE ACCELERATED ON ITS OWN. LUCKILY, FOOT WAS ON THE BRAKE HARD. I ATTEMPTED TO TAP GAS PEDAL WITH OTHER FOOT SEVERAL TIMES WHILE TRYING TO FIGHT THROUGH TRAFFIC WITHOUT CRASHING. I ATTEMPTED TO EASE UP ON BRAKE PEDAL WHILE TRYING TO PULL CAR OVER, TAPPING ON CRUISE CONTROL BUTTON, MAKING SURE THAT WAS OFF. IN A STATE OF SHOCK, I ACTUALLY TURNED THE IGNITION KEY OFF, BUT THE VEHICLE REMAINED GOING. SOON AFTER, I WAS ABLE TO REACH THE SIDE OF THE ROAD WITH THE VEHICLE STILL WANTING TO ACCELERATE AND FOOT STILL ON BRAKE. THIS TERRORIZING EPISODE LASTED FOR UNDER A MINUTE BEFORE IT ENDED AS SUDDENLY AS IT STARTED. DUE TO THE SHOCK, I DIDN'T REALIZE I SHOULD HAVE PUT THE CAR IN NEUTRAL. AFTER A FEW MINUTES, I DROVE THE CAR HOME VERY SLOW AND CAUTIOUSLY, STILL SHAKING. I DID NOT NOTICE GAUGES ON DASHBOARD AT TIME OF THE INCIDENT. THE NEXT MORNING, THE CAR WAS TOWED TO DEALERSHIP. DIAGNOSTIC TESTING, TEST DRIVING. NO CODES, NO INCIDENT REPLICATED. THROTTLE SYSTEM CHECKED AND CLEANED. NO DIAGNOSIS FOUND, SUGGEST TO CHANGE FLOOR MATS. I HAVE DRIVEN VEHICLE FOR FOUR YEARS, NO COMPLAINTS. THIS IS THE FIRST INCIDENT WHICH SCARED THE HECK OUT OF ME. VEHICLE HAS 37,500 MILES ON IT. ON DEC. 21, 2008,WHILE DRIVING DOWN IH-35, MY 2005 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE SUDDENLY AND UNCONTROLLABLY STARTED ACCELERATING. I FELT THE PEDAL LEAVE MY FOOT, AND PIN TO THE FLOOR. I TRIED TAPPING IT A FEW TIMES, THEN APPLIED THE BRAKES WITH NO RESULT. I OWN A CAR WASH IN BELVIDERE, IL AND ON 4-6-08, WE HAD A CUSTOMER BRING THEIR 2005 JEEP CHEROKEE IN, WE PUT IT IN OUT TUNNEL AND RAN IT THROUGH OUR AUTOMATIC WASH IN NEUTRAL, AND AT THE END OF THE TUNNEL A DRIVER GOT IN, PUT THE JEEP IN PARK..STARTED IT, AND THE JEEP TOOK OFF RACING DOWN A DITCH AND ONTO A MAJOR STREET. THE VEHICLE CAME TO A STOP WHEN THE DRIVER CRASHED IT INTO A CEMENT LIGHT POLE. THE CONSUMER STATED THERE WAS GENTLEMAN WHO DIED IN AN EARLIER ACCIDENT INVOLVING SUDDEN ACCELERATION. THE ATTORNEYS OFFICE IN CONNECTICUT CLAIMED THEY FILED A REQUEST FOR AN INVESTIGATION FOR THAT SPECIFIC INCIDENT AND NO SUCH ACTION WAS INITIATED. THE CONSUMER STATED THREE MONTHS LATER HE WAS INVOLVED IN A SIMILAR INCIDENT AT A CARWASH IN MINNEAPOLIS, MN. THE CONSUMER STATED 3 INDIVIDUALS WERE INJURED, 2 CRITICALLY, ONE PASSENGER REMAINS PARALYZED A YEAR AFTER THE ACCIDENT. LOCAL CARWASH EMPLOYEE ENTERED INTO A 2005 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE. WHEN IGNITION WAS TURNED ON, THE VEHICLE REDLINED AND ACCELERATED OFF OF CONVEYOR. EMPLOYEE HIT THE BREAK WITH NO RESPONSE. THE VEHICLE COLLIDED WITH ANOTHER VEHICLE AND WENT THROUGH A TOWEL CABINET AND A BRICK WALL. FOUR EMPLOYEES AND MYSELF WERE NEARLY KILLED. I TOOK THE DRIVER OUT OF THE VEHICLE AND WHILE NO ONE WAS IN IT, IT WAS STILL TRYING TO DRIVE THROUGH THE WALL ON IT'S OWN. (NOTHING WAS TOUCHING THE ACCELERATOR). *NM
I HAVE A 2005 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE LAREDO ON 2 DIFFERENT OCCASIONS MY ENGINE SOUNDS LIKE IT IS REVVING AT FULL THROTTLE BUT I HAVE NO POWER. THE RPM DOES NOT REFLECT THIS. BOTH INCIDENTS HAVE BEEN FIRST THING IN THE MORNING AND THERE IS NO WARNING. FORTUNATELY I HAVE HAD ENOUGH POWER TO GET THE VEHICLE OFF THE ROAD. I ESTIMATE MY SPEED TO BE APPROXIMATELY 5-10 MPH. I AM HOPING THAT IF YOU HAVE HAD SIMILAR COMPLAINTS THAT YOU CAN ADVISE ME WHAT WAS DONE TO FIX THE PROBLEM. WE HAVE A SAFETY ISSUE WITH THE ADJUSTABLE GAS PEDAL IN OUR COMPANY CAR A 2005 JEEP. THE PROBLEM IS THAT THE PEDAL ADJUSTMENT HAS NO INDICATOR THAT LETS YOU KNOW THAT THE PEDAL HAS BEEN MOVED BY ANOTHER EMPLOYEE. RECENTLY WE HAD AN EVENT WERE AN EMPLOYEE DROVE THE CAR A LONG DISTANCE AND DID NOT KNOW THAT THE JEEP HAD AN ADJUSTABLE PEDAL. THE EMPLOYEE COMPLAINED THAT HIS FOOT CRAMPED DURING THE 300 MILE TRIP AND HE DID NOT KNOW WHY. HE WAS NOT AWARE OF THE ADJUSTABLE PEDAL FEATURE OF THE JEEP SINCE THERE WAS NO INDICATOR LIGHT OR GAUGE TO LET HIM KNOW THAT THE PEDAL HAD BEEN SET FOR A MUCH SHORTER PERSON. THE EMPLOYEE ALSO COMPLAINED THAT DURING THIS TRIP HE FOUND HIMSELF DRIVING FASTER THAN THE SPEED LIMIT AND HAD TO USE CRUISE CONTROL TO MAINTAIN HIS SPEED...AGAIN HE WAS NOT AWARE THAT THE PEDAL HAD BEEN MOVED CLOSER TO THE DRIVER AND HIS NORMAL POSITION OF HIS FOOT PUSHED THE PEDAL DOWN MORE THEN NORMAL. *NM
