ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING:CRITICAL FASTENERS
Hyundai Motor America (Hyundai) is recalling certain 2025-2026 Tucson and Santa Fe vehicles. The connecting rod bolts in the engine may have been improperly tightened, which can cause a loss of drive power and engine damage, possibly resulting in an oil leak.
Fix: Dealers will replace the engine, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed October 23, 2025. Owners may contact Hyundai customer service at 1-855-371-9460. Hyundai's number for this recall is 281.

The engine dipstick plastic bottom presents an issue to remove dipstick. Dipstick must be wiggled or twisted as it is pulled up without force for removal. The engine head and block holes are not in perfect alignment. The concern is if the dipstick is removed by force the plastic on the end of dipstick could be broken off and end up in the oil pan. That could cause engine damage and a possible safety issue losing power. Hyundai National Consumer Affairs has been notified but states they cannot report a design complaint directly. They offered the NHTSA as a place to report this concern. This was also experienced on another same make/model car on dealers' lot.
On Sept.12,2025, I was driving with two family members. i was stopped at a light with the auto on/off engaged. Fortunately, i had my foot on the brake as the engine revved very significantly. I threw the car into neutral and the engine returned to normal. Had I not done so, we would have plowed into two cars in front of us at the light. The car was taken to the dealership; but, they could not duplicate a recurrence in road testing.
