Your emergency braking system suddenly engaged and caused your car to stop abruptly while driving at 35 mph on a clear, sunny day with no vehicles or obstacles in front of you. This unexpected braking caused several cars behind you to swerve to avoid a collision, creating a dangerous situation. The issue may require diagnostic testing by your dealership to identify what triggered the emergency braking system.

Your forward collision avoidance system suddenly applied the brakes hard and stopped your car in the middle of the road while you were driving 35 mph on a clear day with no traffic ahead, causing cars behind you to swerve to avoid hitting you. The dealer suggested something might be blocking the front camera and offered to disassemble the system to investigate, but expressed doubt anything was actually wrong. Since you're concerned about unexpected braking events, you'll need the camera sensor and collision avoidance system diagnostics checked to identify what triggered the false brake activation.

Your car's forward collision avoidance system is applying the brakes suddenly during normal driving conditions when there's no actual collision threat, causing abrupt stops that have happened multiple times. Additionally, the lane-keeping assist feature has forcefully pulled your car back into its lane without your input, requiring you to fight the steering wheel to maintain control. While you were able to disable the lane-keeping feature, the forward collision system cannot be turned off, creating safety concerns. The fix would likely involve a software update or recalibration of the collision detection sensors and camera systems.

Your Forward Collision Assist system is braking hard even when there's no actual danger ahead. This has happened twice at very low speeds (1-2 mph) — once in a drive-through and once in a parking lot. While you weren't hit this time, you're concerned about what could happen if this occurs at higher speeds, which could be dangerous. The system's sensors or software may need to be recalibrated or updated to fix this false braking issue.

Your forward collision avoidance system unexpectedly activated and brought your car to a sudden stop after you made a left turn, even though there was no actual collision risk. A vehicle behind you barely avoided hitting your car because of this sudden stop. This appears to be a false activation of the safety system.

While making a slow right turn (about 5 mph) in a parking garage, your Tucson Hybrid suddenly braked hard even though the Forward Collision Avoidance (FCA) safety system was turned off—you confirmed this by checking the dashboard symbol. The wall ahead was at least 15 feet away and posed no collision risk. You're concerned about why the car applied emergency braking when the FCA system was disabled.

Your car's forward collision avoidance system engaged unexpectedly when another vehicle cut in front of you, causing the brakes to apply. While waiting for the brakes to release, you accelerated out of concern about being rear-ended and pulled on the steering wheel, which caused it to extend beyond its normal range. Your steering column's telescoping adjustment no longer works and is now stuck in a downward, extended position. The dealer indicated a locking pin may not have been properly installed during a previous lo-jack system installation, and they won't cover the repair under warranty—you may need to contact the dealership that performed the original work.

Your car's forward collision avoidance system is engaging the brakes automatically when it detects a vehicle ahead, even when there's actually plenty of space — especially when the car in front is turning. When this happens, your car comes to a hard stop and takes about a minute to reset before you can drive again, which can create dangerous situations where other drivers might rear-end you. You can disable this feature manually, but it resets every time you start the car, so you have to turn it off repeatedly.

The adaptive cruise control reduces speed when the car's driver camera "senses" that driver is distracted when in fact, this occurs frequently within even a 30 minute drive: it senses "distracted driving" due to wearing sunglasses, short stature making in cab camera have difficulty seeing eyes of driver, etc. This is a frequent problem in my car and a frequent problem in driver forums. This is unsafe when it slows car without warning and is stressful. Upgrades needed for safety.

I was travelling southbound on a main urban street. I was approaching an interesting with a feeder road to a major freeway. I was in a line of cars making a right hand turn onto this feeder. Just before I was about to start turning right, the Tucson Hybrid suddenly and unexpectedly smalled on the brakes and I came to a full stop. I was HIT FROM BEHIND. There was minimal damage to the car that hit me. My car had damage to some plastic components on the bottom of my rear bumper. Total cost to repair this damage was 785. No insurance claim was filed.

I was driving straight in the left most lane on an expressway, about to make a left turn on a green left turn arrow. The vehicle in front of me was making a U-turn. My Hyundai Tucson abruptly braked quite hard. I'm not sure what caused it but I'm guessing the vehicle making U-turn slowed down a bit before the U-turn and might have triggered a forward collision avoidance braking but I didn't feel like there was a need. This caused the vehicle right behind me to also abruptly brake and if they hadn't, they might have rear-ended my car. After making the left turn, the vehicle behind me angrily overtook me because they likely didn't know it was the car's system which did this

The contact owns a 2025 Hyundai Tucson. The contact stated that while his wife was driving at various speeds, the imminent crash braking failed to function as intended. The first time that the failure occurred, the contact's wife was driving in the rain, and a beeping sound was coming from the vehicle, and the vehicle stopped independently. The vehicle returned to normal functionality after several minutes. The contact stated that on a separate occasion, while his wife was driving in slow traffic, there was an abnormal beeping sound coming from the vehicle before the vehicle independently stopped. No warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle returned to normal functionality minutes later; however, the failure persisted. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer or an independent mechanic, and the vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 1,000.

I’ve been driving this car for nearly a year, and during that time I’ve had multiple incidents where the Forward Collision-Avoidance system applied sudden hard braking when it wasn’t necessary, creating dangerous situations. I don't think I will be fortunate every time. I believe there is a serious issue with how the Hyundai's FCA system is operating and it needs to be investigated as a priority. Currently I am driving with it turned off every time I start the car. On my research I found this issue has been reported by multiple other drivers as well and I don't see any acknowledgement or reference from Hyundai on this so far.

Hard braking first occurred on a major highway with no prior notice that this would happen in close call accidents. The cars traffic had to veer away from me in order to avoid hitting me. Another highway (95) incident was a 18 wheel semi that had to move to the shoulder and could have easily totaled my car and me. I then researched this and found I could delay the action be setting the Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist mode to "Late". This helped in giving notice for some time, however the hard braking occurred again on a regular two lane small highway as I switched lanes, saw a car stopping suddenly and the brakes locked up. (This is the latest incident as dated below). There was no "Late" warning, the brakes just locked up. Being in fear of my and my families life I did further research and found that I could disable "brake assist" and only get warnings - which is what should be the default - BUT, this must be done each time I start the car. If my wife drives and forgets to do this each time I now fear for her life!!! This is not a simple matter. It is unconscionable and horrible this type of control over basic transportation is allowed to exist. This must be addressed and corrected! I'm all in on helping make meaningful change to this issue.

The forward collision avoidance engaged when it was unnecessary and nearly caused me to be rear ended. It doesn't slow you down, it brings your vehicle to a complete stop and leaves you stuck unable to move for a few seconds... just long enough for the person behind you to read end you. This is incredibly dangerous. I would speculate that this feature will result in many rear end wrecks and should be addressed expediently or Hyundai may risk a significant class action lawsuit.

Had just turned out onto a major road and started to accelerate. At approximately 30 mph forward collision system alerted and applied automatic emergency brakes even though the next car was several car lengths ahead of me and there was absolutely no risk of forward collision. The vehicle immediately behind me had to slam on their brakes to avoid rear ending me. Thankfully, this was coming out of school zone so their speed was not high. At regular street speeds this malfunction would have likely resulted in a crash with injury. During the time that the automatic brake system was activated I could not override. I used gas pedal but car would not accelerate until the system stopped, perhaps 2-3 seconds later. Car was purchased used within last month and had an inspection by seller then, but I am not aware of any inspection by manufacturer/ dealer.

11/2/2025- The forward collision warning and the automatic emergency braking system engaged and brought my vehicle to a complete stop in the middle of the road when there was no imminent danger of a forward collision occurring. My vehicle was rear ended by the vehicle behind me as a result of the sudden and complete braking of my vehicle. This same incident happened a few days before this collision, but there was no vehicle behind my vehicle, so no rear end accident happened at that time. 12/1/2026- vehicle inspected at Jim Click Hyundai regarding the sudden stopping of the vehicle. Jim Click determined a fault code FRONT CAMERA BLOCKAGE. Dealer said they cleared the code and the problem should not return. On or around 12/8/2025 the 2025 Hyundai again had the front collision avoidance system randomly setting off alarms when the vehicle was driving on the freeway and other vehicles were traveling alongside the 2025 Hyundai. There was no emergency braking occurring at this time. 12/9/2025- the 2025 Hyundai returned to Jim Click Hyundai and at that time the dealer determined the front camera was showing an obstruction when none was there. They replaced the front camera with a new camera. 12/28/2025- the same problem of the front collision avoidance system and the automatic emergency braking engaged again, even though there was a new front camera installed on the vehicle. The 2025 Hyundai vehicle came to a complete stop in traffic. The vehicle ahead 2+ car lengths ahead swerved from the left lane to the right lane to avoid a box in the road. Driver of the 2025 Hyundai was applying the brakes when the 2025 Hyundai emergency braking system took over and the 2025 Hyundai came to a complete stop in traffic when there was no need for this. 1/2/26- 2025 Hyundai returned to Jim Click Hyundai and remains there while the Service dep't is driving the vehicle trying to diagnose the cause of the continued emergency braking problem.

The emergency breaking system automatically engages whenever it feels it wants to. It has become extremely dangerous to drive the vehicle on a daily basis. I have been in contact with Hyundai, Hyundai consumed affairs and have brought the vehicle back to two dealerships to see if they can duplicate the problem. They have been incredulous thus far and still I am left with the safety issue. I feel very scared to drive the vehicle. I am not sure what to do at this point because Hyundai said if they can’t duplicate the problem then the vehicle is working as designed but is it going to take a serious accident for this to be taken seriously. It has been happening since September 2025. Thank you

The Automatic Emergency Braking system, I think it may be called (or is a part of) the Forward Collision Avoidance system by Hyundai, triggered incorrectly while on Interstate 265. My car was travelling at about 35 MPH on the off ramp when the Automatic Emergency Braking system triggered and cause my car to rapidly decelerate to a near standstill. The vehicle following behind me had to swerve into another lane to avoid hitting my car. The problem has not been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or service center. The component has not been inspected yet, but we will be bringing it to the dealer in the near future. There were not warnings or messages that this was about to happen other than the emergency sound and light when the Automated Emergency Braking engaged. This has happened twice before on other roads and in other situations with this car.

The automatic brake system triggers when there is no obstacle. It has caused the car to stop suddenly in the middle of the road and almost become rear ended several times. The car in front of me, 8 to 10 feet ahead, slow down and turn on their blinker. My car slammed so hard on its break. It threw me and my dog forward. It never gave us a warning until it slammed. There was plenty of time for me to slow down, but also the car was partially already in the turn lane. There is then 223 seconds where my car will not move forward. I am a sitting duck to cars coming behind me.

The automatic braking was inappropriately applied while I was coming to a controlled stop on a 45mph stop light intersection. I was already slowing down and about 30 feet behind the car in front of me the Collision Avoidance warning starting going off, slightly applied brakes (to the additional amount I was already applying) then slammed on the brakes to a complete stop. There was some teen behind me who wasn't paying attention, and obviously no one expects the car in front of them to slam on their brakes 30 feet behind the cars in front of them, then plowed into back end of my car. This isn't the first time it's happened and I wasn't even at risk of collision as I was already slowing down in the other instances. But this time it caused an accident and injury. I am suffering from whiplash and possible herniated disk. The system is on the Late setting as well but is still dangerous to drive. There needs to be a firmware update or sensor recall, this is very dangerous!

We were driving on I4 in stop and go traffic. Our speed was under 25 mph and we were over a full car length back from the vehicle in front of us. I was actively braking to come to a stop due to traffic and the forward collision / emergency braking kicked in and stopped us immediately. This caused a car behind us to almost hit us and cause an accident due to sudden stopping. This happened 3 separate times within a 30 minute timeframe with 2 different cars behind us. The system will take control of braking the car and the steering wheel, and will not always give it back immediately to be able to continue driving. This has occurred previously when slowing down due to someone turning in front of us just in every day driving, and has almost caused a wreck then as well. Our local Hyundai dealer said there was no recall or issue with the system. This is dangerous and going to cause an accident sooner or later.

On numerous occasions (over 20) the forward collision system just slams on the brakes to a full stop, there was nothing close enough to vehicle to cause this issue. Sometimes it’s caused by rain or wind, sometimes for no apparent reasons. One time it caused a no damage accident as person behind me tapped my bumper. In traffic it is set off often with nothing within a safe distance away. There was no obstacles or sudden movements from other vehicles around me. I have brought the car back too Hyundai 3 times only to tell me either a dumb excuse or nothing is wrong with vehicle. I have seen on forums there are a lot of incidents with this particular car We have serviced the vehichle 3 different times over this issue and were told there is nothing wrong with the vehicle Accident happened in summer so I will say there was a crash in additional details but last date occurrence of automatic stop was this morning

The Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist (FCA) is braking aggressively without a valid hazard, creating a serious rear-end collision risk. Incident 1 [XXX] , approx. 60 mph) : A vehicle legally changed into my lane with safe separation. The FCA system detected this as a collision risk and applied hard braking on the freeway. Following traffic had to brake abruptly and I narrowly avoided being rear-ended. Incident 2 (Intersection U-turn, 15 mph): While completing a permitted U-turn on a green light, the FCA detected a distant cross-traffic vehicle and suddenly braked in the intersection, leaving me stopped in an unsafe position. I set FCA sensitivity to the minimum/“Late” setting after the first event. The false hard-braking continues. Hyundai dealership [Anaheim Hyundai] states “no issue found.” This behavior is repeatable and unsafe. I request investigation into false positives and unintended hard braking, a software remedy, and guidance to disable automatic braking until fixed (warning-only) if permitted by Hyundai.Currently even if it is disabled it resets after the SUV is turned OFF. I realized there are multiple threads on reddit on the same issue for Tuscon 2025 models with some of them resulting in accidents. I was driving on the road this morning approx. 25 mph (clear road, no rain, snow etc.) The car came to a full abrupt stop. Collusion/warning notification never came on (there was nothing in front of me) seatbelt locked. Car would not move. I put the car in park and had to turn the car off and back on to get the car to move. This honestly scared the life out of me. I had several cars behind me that could of rear ended my car and caused serious harm to myself or other drivers. I called the dealership (will be dropping off this evening) but they made it very clear that if they can not duplicate the problem there is nothing that they can do. The car has 8,000 miles on it and was purchased in April 2025.

Multiple times my vehicle has come to a complete stop unwarranted. There have been multiple instances of the automatic braking triggering on Michigan left hand turns with no traffic oncoming. This was reported to the dealer and they found no issue, however it has happened again since. The vehicle has also multiple times come to a full stop in heavy traffic when I was already braking and a full stop was unnecessary. While driving at speed in heavy traffic, I quickly merged from the right lane to the left lane to avoid an obstacle. My vehicle and the new vehicle in front of me (in the left lane) were traveling at approximately the same speed, although there was an admittedly small (one half car length) distance between us. My forward collision assist inaccurately identified this new vehicle in front of me as a sudden danger that I was going to hit. It immediately applied full braking power and played the forward collision alert sound. This aggressive and unexpected stop spilled and broke items in my car as they slid, roughly strained me against my seat belt, and caused the vehicle behind me to aggressively brake. A rear end collision was narrowly avoided, only due to the fast reaction of the driver behind me. This aggressive and dangerous forward assist and emergency braking can only be temporarily disabled for one drive, and resets every time the vehicle is turned on. I have not had my vehicle inspected for this issue, but communities on the internet have confirmed that this is a common problem.

Many 2025 Hyundai Tucson owners have reported significant issues with the driver attention warning feature, particularly when using cruise control and wearing sunglasses, leading to safety concerns and frustration. Common Complaints Constant Alerts: Many drivers have experienced the driver attention warning activating unnecessarily, especially while using cruise control. Users report that the system beeps and prompts them to keep their eyes on the road, even when they are attentive and looking straight ahead. This has led to frustration, with some considering disabling the feature entirely. 2 Sunglasses Interference: A recurring issue is that the driver attention warning system struggles to detect the driver's eyes when sunglasses are worn. This has caused the system to issue warnings and disable cruise control, which can be particularly dangerous in heavy traffic situations. Drivers have noted that even moderately tinted sunglasses can trigger these alerts, making it difficult to use the vehicle comfortably. 2 Safety Concerns: Some users have reported alarming incidents where the driver attention warning system caused abrupt braking, leading to near-collisions. For instance, one driver described a situation where the system suddenly applied the brakes while driving between vehicles, creating a hazardous situation. This has raised serious safety concerns among owners, particularly regarding the system's reliability and responsiveness. 1 Lack of Support from Hyundai: Many drivers have expressed dissatisfaction with Hyundai's response to these issues. Complaints about the driver attention warning feature have been met with minimal support, and some users feel that their concerns are not being adequately addressed by the manufacturer. 2 3 Sources Summary of Issues Overall, the driver attention warning feature in the 2025 Hyundai Tucson has been a source of frustration and concern for many owners. The problem is that while driving in what Hyundai calls HDA (Highway Driving Assist) which activates when the car is placed in adaptive cruise control (cruise control that keeps the vehicle at a set speed and distance from the cars ahead) and lane driving assist (driving assist to keep the vehicle centered in the lane) the car issues far too many false warnings telling the driver to "keep your eyes on the road". While in HDA, the car monitors the driver's eyes and head position using a driver facing camera, part of the FAW (Forward Attention Warning system) or DDMS (Direct Driver Monitoring System) to assure the driver is focused on the road ahead. However, in the 2025 Hyundai, this system is so flawed that the car is practically undrivable in the HDA mode with cruise control and lane driving assist engaged issuing too many false warnings, that the driver is not focusing on the road. The multiple warnings, in some cases every few seconds, is extremely distracting taking the driver's attention away from safely controlling the vehicle. The system which is intended to make the vehicle safer is instead such a distraction it makes the car unsafe due to the constant false warnings requiring driver attention to address them and away from safely operating the vehicle.

4th occurrence of the forward assistance warning system activating when we were at a slow speed with plenty of room to stop and the brakes engaged suddenly to stop the car and today someone slammed into the rear of our car. This is extremely frightening and should never happen at slow speeds when there is ample time to stop. My husband doesn't even want to drive this car again as he's afraid we may be killed. I see on the reddit site that this is happening to others too. Hyundai must fix this issue ASAP. You can temporarily stop this from working but everytime you stop & turn off car you must do it again. Police were called & report filed. We have to get our car fixed now.

My 2025 Hyundai Tucson had approximately 150 miles when the forward collision warning system has started to provide false warnings. The first event happened as I was pulling out of a parking lot where there was a dip in pavement between the lot and road. The dip in the pavement was interpreted as an object about to cause impact so my car automatically applied full braking. I almost got hit from the car behind me who was not expecting me to stop. Now my car has 406 miles on it and I routinely receive warnings about collisions due to nearby cars doing U-turns or cars which I will definitely not hit. A few times it has applied braking which has almost caused several accidents from cars behind me not expecting me to stop.

Driving through a green light, no car in front of me, collision avoidance activated and applied full brake. If a car had been close behind me I would have been rear ended.

Car slams on the brakes while under controlled stopping. This has happened on a few occasions. Reported it to the dealer service department and was told it has happened to them and suggested that I turn off that option.

Every time there is morning condensation/dew or rain, my front collision warning does not work. A notification pops up, the symbol comes onto the dash and it takes a good 3-5 minutes depending on the severity of the weather to have the symbol and notification go away and work. Also, 98% of the time when my car was preset to turn on, the emergency brake automatically engages every time I get into the drivers seat.

The contact owns a 2025 Hyundai Tucson. The contact stated that while driving and attempting to slow down, the Forward Collision Avoidance: Automatic Emergency Braking system activated, bringing the vehicle to a complete stop in the middle of the roadway. The vehicle returned to normal functionality, but the failure became a regular occurrence. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, who were unable to duplicate the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, a case was opened, and the contact was referred to the NHTSA Hotline for assistance. The failure mileage was 1,200.

The forward attention warning system uses a camera on the steering column. It goes off constantly while wearing my required glasses. Hyundai nor the dealership will turn off the sensor. There are over 10,000 complaints for this issue and Hyundai will not correct the issue. The system will automatically adjust the speed and brake in the vehicle without the driver. I almost had a wreck yesterday when it shut the car down when the camera couldn’t see my eyeballs while wearing my glasses. Something needs to be done. I’m thinking of filing a lawsuit against Hyundai as a class action. Please advise if you have any suggestions. Thank you

This vehicle has a notification "Consider taking a break." It activates every 20-30 minutes, even though I am a safe driver. It is distraction to driving, whith is less safe than the warning itself. I would like for you to contact Hyundai to find a way to disconnect this, for they say it can not be disabled. Diosabling can be done on older models, but not newer models. I have a 2025 Hyundai Tuscon. It is a sfety hazard.

Regarding the forward collision warning. This system I feel is honestly scaring me and I am now turning it off whenever I start the car I was driving one day and a car abruptly stopped in front of me for a quick second but started rolling again rather quickly. I was slowing down, I saw the car stopping and before I could even react the car slammed on the breaks and completely locked the wheels up and I came sliding to a stop. It almost caused me to be rear ended which I am glad did not happen but again very close. I am also worried it may detect oncoming traffic and slam on the brakes I don’t like feeling that I’m not in control of the vehicle. This system in particular needs either disabled or looked over again

I am filing a complaint regarding a serious safety malfunction in my 2025 Hyundai Tucson’s forward collision sensor, which caused an accident. I have owned this vehicle for only two weeks, and I believe this issue poses a risk to myself and other drivers. On February 25, 2025, while driving, the car in front of me stopped and made a U-turn. There was no imminent risk of collision, yet my Tucson’s forward collision sensor erroneously activated and engaged the automatic braking system. This caused my vehicle to come to an abrupt stop, resulting in a rear-end collision. I have documented the incident, including photographs, a police report, and insurance documentation, which I can provide upon request. This malfunction is extremely concerning, as a feature designed to prevent accidents instead directly caused one. If this issue exists in other Hyundai Tucson vehicles, it presents a severe hazard for drivers. I urge NHTSA to investigate this as a potential safety defect, determine if other similar complaints exist, and assess whether Hyundai needs to issue a recall or software fix. I also need guidance on whether there are any known remedies or if I should take my vehicle to the dealership for inspection. This issue must be addressed before it leads to more accidents. Please let me know if further information is needed.

I could not find an exact category check above, but this does sort of relate to cruise control. The Driver Attention Warning cannot be disabled even though there is an option to disable it. Turning it off has no affect. This is a warning that basically tells you to keep your eyes on the road. Sunglasses and regular eyeglasses can often cause it to create a warning. The system will then turn off cruise control if it's being used. According to several owners, this is common on newer model Hyundais and Hyundai either chooses not to or simply cannot fix this. My wife has notified Hyundai and is awaiting a response.
